OUTSTANDING FOOD, SERVICE, AMBIANCE AND NEW MANAGERS! We have been dining here for years. We had our rehearsal dinner at the 502 years ago because we love the Chase On The Lake so much. Over the years the food quality and cleanliness left a lot to be desired. We were thrilled to find out new ownership had taken over a place that was near and dear to our hearts. I flew in from Texas this afternoon and this was the first place I wanted to eat. The Facebook pictures weren't wrong.... the food looks delicious and was even better than it looked. The restaurant was cleaner than we have seen in a decade!! This is 4th of July weekend and the place is packed! We waited 45 minutes for a table of 9 to eat inside. They made us feel welcomed without rushing us. The servers are all new, smiling and know the menu well! The new manager came in and greeted friends old and new. The manager working the line was all smiles which is rare. Amanda the bartender made a mean cocktail. The Alfredo sauce is nothing to bat an eye at.... homemade and the real deal! Walleye is fresh from lower Red Lake and gone is the nasty old pecan crusted greasy fish. The tarter sauce is homemade and could've been eaten with bread! Skip the expensive fish at Boulders and save your money with this. I did the walleye sandwich sans bun. The cheese curds were so good we ordered 2 more baskets! We will make sure we come a few more times before we leave town. read more

We had a great experience for dinner at The 502 during our weekend visit to the area. The 502 is located within Chase on the Lake resort. They had indoor and outdoor seating with a view of the lake. We chose to sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere. We were informed the wait staff was a little backed up, but that they'd do their best to serve us in a timely manner. I ordered a coconut margarita (tequila, lime & cream of coconut) which was delicious! The glass came rimmed with toasted coconut. For dinner, I ordered the BLT on cranberry & wild rice bread. It came perfectly toasted with garlic aioli, tomato, lettuce, and a generous amount of crispy bacon. The fries were also bomb! Was told that they were busy and probably we wouldn't get in by server very rudely. Manager seated us instead. 20 mins until food order was taken. Without reservation they place u in rear of deck. Then waited 40 minutes for food. System crashed so they replaced walleye sandwich with dinner. Casey was better server. Overall disappointing. read more

We make at least one yearly stop here. They evidently were struggling after Covid and some items on the menu are still good. Their drinks continue to be some of my favorites in the area. I love their Walker Bay Lemonade's. Tried to duplicate at home and we can't make it even close in my opinion. One of my disappointments this summer were the Wild Rice Crab Cakes. I know there are new owners so kitchen staff most likely has changed. Please bring back the old recipe! The setting is gorgeous and always very friendly waitresses. read more

We really like this restaurant. Couple of senior citizens and we're happy. We're normally up in late September, early October, when the general body of tourists are adios'd. Bad day for heading out on rough waters on the lake so we leave our cabin, take a short roadtrip, and turn to clear sailing, and a great view of the lake, here. Never had a bad meal nor experience in here. The bar is also quite special. Very good stocking of many products. Younger staff are all very friendly. We're always welcome to flag them down to add another ... whatever. Very accommodating. My only complaint: Keep access to their wild rice bread bakery, or learn to make it themselves. haha read more

This was possibly the worst meal we have ever had. we ordered our steaks rare and they were at best medium. The menu said mashed potatoes and they came garlic mashed. we hate garlic and would have never order them. We had to ask for bread that should have come right away and of course they didn't bring butter until we asked for that also. Our drinks were not correct and had to ask for them to be made correctly. we waited for such a long time to receive a horrible $100 dollar meal. New ownership, same menu, but new recipes? First time here since the new ownership and we were excited to see they still had their tomato garganzola soup. . . . That is until we ate it. Lost the depth of flavor. Seemed like a new recipe. What use to be a light tempura batter on the shrimp was thick and heavy although still called tempura. The Alfredo sauce was too thick and dry to eat. We actually went to Chase for the prime rib and tomato soup. We checked with the hostess to make sure they still had the soup and were serving prime and then after being served our beverages were told they no longer served the prime in the winter. If you want to eat and have the best view of Leech Lake, The 502 is the place to be. It is located in the hotel Chase on the Lake, a huge hotel located right in Walker on the lake. It is the prime location to be! The food here was good, but something out of this world. We got a cheese fondue, shrimp salad, Caesar salad, blackberry bbq wings, and a Cuban sandwich. All together, the food wasn't bad at all. Our favorites were the salads and the blackberry bbq wings. They were tasty! You don't come here for the food though. You come to enjoy the nice view of the lake. After eating, you can stroll to the public docks and sit on the water or walk right into Walker. Super convenient. Overall, decent food, decent service, amazing view of Leech Lake! read more

I'm a glass 1/2 full kinda guy, so here goes. Very nice location, historic and beautiful to eat by the lake. The bar area was huge, and in retrospect we probably should have just plopped down there and had a bite with some beers. They've got some work to do on their guest experience and work flow with the intake and seating, food timing and delivery, etc. I don't think they were taking reservations, so when we arrived we were told 60-90 minutes {on a Thursday night around 5:45-6:00 p.m.}. So we walked through the dining room to the outdoor seating and down to the docks. We talked a bit and about 20-30 minutes decided to go back to the desk to see where we were at. He'd been looking for us and our table was almost ready [didn't take phone number, no PA system, etc.]. We were sat and greeted fairly quickly by our server Leyton {good kid}. Got our drink orders, we all had a good beer in mind, came back in fairly good time. Took our order and we added an APP so he did some magic on his ordering pad and put that before the other stuff...appreciated that gesture. The appetizer was the cheese curds, they came out in good time and were pretty good...a little greasy, but that was a bit to be expected. Our guests had Wings and Tacos, and my wife had the BLT and I took the Walleye dinner. 2 of the dishes came out in pretty good time (wings and BLT)...but the tacos and my walleye came out significantly later. My walleye dinner $28.00 was a bit cold and the person who brought them out {stout fellow who looked like he'd been called in from mowing the lawn (very casually dressed...maybe kitchen manager?)} told me that my seasonal veggies were missing but he'd deliver them soon. We started eating, everyone enjoyed their food. It was good, not great...but acceptable. Our server brought the check, and I paid and tipped. They were busy, but not swamped, and had empty tables in many areas. I'd say maybe they were a bit short staffed or something to the effect. For the price (Four Beers, One App, and wings with Tacos, a Sandwich and Walleye = $150+ for 4 people) and the location I was expecting a bit more. Never did get the rest of my dinner. So I wouldn't say don't go there, but there's other options and if they don't get their act together and focus on those areas they aren't doing well...they'll be losing more customers. read more

I really hesitated between 2 or 3 stars, I decided on 3 because I think their food isn't so horrible, just the service. I came with my mom, my grandma and my boyfriend. My mom and I shared cheese curds and everyone else ordered an entree. My bf asked for a burger without cheese and I ordered the berry salad, I also asked without cheese. The waitress wrote everything down but for some odd reason our meals both came with cheese. My bf told the food runner "I ordered this without cheese" and the food runner then said "umm I'm just delivering this" no apology or, oh sorry let me correct that for you. He eventually took the burger and returned but as pretty rude about it. I just accepted the cheese on my salad and brushed it away, it was everywhere so I felt bad about having them make a good one. I think this place needs a serious improvement on their customer service and actually listening to their customers. I brought my family here for my wife's 60th birthday...they were out of everything out of the entrées they had one choice. I settled on a BLT and is was served with out tomatoes I mentioned that to the waitress and oh we are out of tomatoes. We sat for over 40 minutes to get our drinks. The waitress was doing her best to keep up the place was understaffed to the point they should have closed for the day. The did comp us for some of the meal but I won't be back. Shame on management they should know better and plan better. I understand that new management is taking over I wish them luck they will need it. read more

Such a cute place right on the water at Leech Lake. The food is yummy too! We got the lobster Mac, country fried steak and walleye sandwich. All were delicious! The tomato wild rice soup with Gorgonzola was amazing! Also highly recommend the cheese fondue with wild rice bread. So good! I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 because the salad was turning brown, the pasta was slightly over cooked and we couldn't ever get drink refills. If you really need to see the lake while you eat, this is probably one of your only options. It's very apparent they know they have a captive audience here, and it seems as though raising prices is their way of trying to trick you into thinking you're eating at a nice restaurant. This is sort of like buffet level food at inflated five star prices. Service was good. But they said I would be getting squash with the veggies, but I got broccoli. I hate broccoli on my plate. We stayed at Chase on Thursday night with the Groupon we had purchased. We couldn't believe the service we had at the restaurant! When we were seated the hostess was going to sit us in the middle of the room. There was one table left by the window and we asked if we could sit there as there was no Reserved sign. The hostess made an awkward face and said they were holding it for someone. We didn't say anything for a few seconds and then she said, Never mind, you can sit there. Our server was Whitney. I would highly recommend asking for her, she was awesome! We asked about the seasonal beers and she brought us both out a larger than most bars offer sample of the Leech Lake Minobi. This beer is fantastic and from a small local brewery up the road who self distributes so you won't find it in the cities...yet! Whitney was very helpful and wrote us down turn-by-turn directions to get to the brewery so we could purchase some growlers. For dinner we ordered the full rack of ribs and the 8 oz filet. Oh my goodness, the filet was like cutting through butter! It's more flavorful when you spread around the little garlic butter pat they place on top of it. The ribs were tasty and fall off the bone! He said they were some of the best ribs he had had. The sides for the two meals were the same; loaded mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. I would definitely recommend the restaurant. Unappetizing at best. We received our wine and drinks in glasses that were filthy. I asked for a new wine glass and the server brought back the same glass, but it was clear they simply tried to wipe off the first glass they had given me. The food came and they brought us silverware which was absolutely disgusting as well. I dipped my dinner fork in my water glass and wiped it down with the napkin so I could eat my grilled chicken alfredo. I got about halfway through it before just losing my appetite altogether. We asked to have the wine removed from the bill and mentioned to them that they need to look into their dishwashing procedures. read more

Not sure why this place got bad reviews. We almost didn't go when we stayed at the The Chase on the lake hotel because of the reviews but I am so glad we did. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and everything from the view, to the service, and the food was fantastic. I had the full rack of ribs and it was amazing. Let's start this one off by saying if you're an outdoors dining kinda person with views of the water and boat traffic then this place is for you as long as you like to get shit on by the seagulls that flyover the tables. As for the food probably give it a five out of 10, I the male in this story had the French dip sandwich with fries ( burped that shit up all night and the next morning ). For the lady in this story or rant she had the walleye sandwich which didn't taste like fish at all ( she also burped that shit up for a long time ) Now for the drink side of things - bush lattes were five bucks a piece they were cold, but it's hard to fuck those up. As for the outdoor dining tables I believe they should get a smooth flat surface to clean instead of a table with grooves in it as those never get cleaned correctly ( don't worry I had my knife out cleaning the grooves out for them and the next person ) Onto the fancy towel wrapped up with the metal feeding utensils, just put paper towels out I don't need a handkerchief used by everyone else as some point. Sorry no pictures as I was spending quality time on a date with my wife with out the kids for one night and I payed attention to her and not to post dam food photos so you can just scroll Thru them to make your decisions. We thought we would give 502 another try after the miserable experience last year and it was better but still not great. First of all to get the drink menu we did the phone camera thing but discovered their red wines were not listed so the waitress had to try to remember what the had. Anyhow my wife ordered the ribeye that was extremely fatty while I got the almond crusted walleye sandwich. It was a nice large portion of walleye but the fish had a strange taste like it was fried in old oil or the seasoning was off. Not real tasty. Service was good so at least that part of it was good. Overall, we don't really think they deserve a third chance so we'll take our business elsewhere next year. read more

Our family had dinner @ The 502 during our stay. The experience was saved by our outstanding waitress! We waited easily over 5 minutes for a table, when the restaurant was not overly busy. (host has some opportunity he was not outgoing for 1st impression) Our waitress was fast, accommoding and had wonderful honest menu recommendations. The Cajun Pasta was delicious and not over the top spicy. The bacon pepperoni pizza was outstanding. Kids meals were just right portion size. read more

Both waitress that were waiting on the tables on both sides of us refused to wait on us. They both told us that we were not in their area. So they Both waited on the tables on each side of us but nobody would wait on us. We waited 20 min. Went to the bar and got our own drinks and then left. Talked to the hostess about it and she did not care one bit. In fact after 10 min we asked her to find somebody to wait on us and she would not do that. We are local people who eat here alot. Possibly the worst meal I've had. My filet mignon was grey, cold and tasteless. The plate... overloaded with broccoli and disgusting cold "wild" rice. My friend's dinner, imagine my plate, except with dry, over cooked salmon. The cafeteria lady presents a prettier plate than the "cooks" at 502. Note: I refer to the people preparing the food as cooks, not chefs. This year I've been to Gary Danko/San Francisco, Trattoria Di Moncica/Boston, Walrus and Carpenter/Seattle, Al Tiramisu/DC, Purple Pig/Chicago, Studio/Laguna Beach...these are great restaurants. In my experience there is never an issue with the food at The 502 but the service is another story. Among the 4-6 times I've eaten here, I would say that the service was lacking at least half the time. In some situations I get the feeling that the waiters and waitresses just don't care. This past weekend the hostess took us to a table and then decided to move us one table over in anticipation of the waiter/waitress service volume. We said ok and then after about 15 minutes we had no acknowledgment from anyone about providing service so we left. If you can get service the food is usually good. read more
