    Pizza?
    Mike D.

Hmm, this is a tough one. I like the 4th. I like the bartenders and I like the drinks. I just had one of the worst food experiences (without getting sick.) I'll start by saying I come here every once in a while, I tend to frequent other bars more, but I've been liking it more. I had lunch here the other day, and it was pretty good bar food. I had a tasty burger-dip and my wife had a bacon cheese burger which was also tasty. With tater-tots which I always love. No complaints there. Then comes tonight. I met up with a friend from out of town, and didn't feel like coming home and cooking dinner. Went to the 4th because we could get a cocktail or two and get food to go. Figured we'd try the pizza. (yes, I know there are a ton of tried and true pizza joints in town, Al Forno, you kick ass.) But I wanted a cocktail while I waited. Got home, and saw some sort of pizza abortion, after waiting upwards of 35 minutes for it. I wouldn't have minded the wait if it had been even decent. I may be thinking that my food was either made twice back there, or maybe the dough hadn't been made yet? If the food isn't ready, or you mess it up, please let me know, so I can make my own decision as to whether I want to continue waiting or not. The crust is by far the worst crust I've ever had, and that includes the early attempts at my making my own crust at home. It was cracker thin, undercooked, incredibly floury, and just unacceptable. It was even ugly as sin. (see my pictures.) The calzone I got was moist and doughy, and the ricotta was weird and grainy. (my wife is convinced it was cottage cheese.) A place like this needs to concentrate on doing good bar food. Good, quality burgers, maybe have a variety of hot dogs, good french dips and other sandwiches. If you can't do something even decently, take it off the menu and add something that you can do well. I still like the 4th, hence the three stars still, but I am very unhappy about this experience, and I hope that maybe someone reads this and gets those pizzas out of there so no one else has to have a ruined meal.

Bartender can NOT handle a weekend crowd. Was clearly upset about something not work related but could not keep up with the drink demand.

The food here is so great. The best chicken tenders in town, hands down. Order the burger or chicken strip basket. You won't regret it.

In other words, it's just my thing. I don't need a bar to have a food menu. I don't need it to take credit cards. I don't need it to have TVs lining the walls or be blasting the latest dance music. I do need it to be a place where I can nurse a few drinks and be with myself (or my friends) without such distractions, and the Crypt fits that bill perfectly. BTW, if you need to have the aforementioned things, there are a dozen other places for you to go near downtown. If you want to be more social, or party with a bigger group, they have a patio. It's actually really nice out there during the summer, hanging out with the other weirdos. It's a shame we can't have clove cigarettes anymore. If you know, you know. They usually have some awesome events going on most nights of the week, too, with a little something for everyone. On the bar side, the drinks are excellent (try the Rose Rickey) and the staff has always been friendly. The seasonal cocktails can be pricey, but they're damn good, and you're worth the treat. Cozy atmosphere. There were 3 employees that night, the woman who initially waited on us actually appeared to roll her eyes when we ordered. She seemed pretty rushed and just didn't want to work that night or something. The bartender was friendly and came for our second round and he actually seemed more welcoming and friendly. The drinks menu is a bit small (compared to other nearby bars). We got 5 drinks, one espresso one which wasn't great and the rest were alright. Nothing that made us go "Oh man, try that!" but they weren't bad either. The food, looks better than normal bar food, which I loved. We ordered "Balls of Gibralter" - North African meatballs, which were *SO GOOD*, so delicious EXCEPT the texture. The flavors were all amazing, but it was as if there was too much egg and not enough breadcrumbs because it gave the impression of being wildly undercooked, even though you could see no pink. If they were firmer, they would've been perfect. They seem to have a rotating grilled cheese special I wouldn't mind checking out next time. The ambiance-lovely. To my surprise, the place was packed with customers on a Sunday afternoon. I expected a slower pace, but it was anything but. The atmosphere was lively, with people playing pool and enjoying themselves. One of the unique features of this pub is a table game that many of you may not be familiar with. It's called Table Shuffleboard, and it's one of my favorites. I've played it a few times in Alaska, and it's a great game. To play, you simply request the pucks from the servers, and it's a lot of fun. I highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area. We ordered a couple of beers, which were fairly decent. I had the Irish Death, and my friend opted for some of the commercialized beers like Blue Moon. They also ordered some wings, which they said were very good. They recommended that if you want extra crispy wings, you should have them fried hard. The sweet potato fries were cold, but the bartender was quick to take care of that. She brought us a fresh batch in a matter of minutes. The customer service was excellent throughout our visit. I'm giving this pub a three out of five stars. I'd like to come back and try some of the food, especially in the game day environment. I'm a vegetarian, so I didn't eat much of the food we had, but I'll definitely come back and try it again. I'll also come at night to see how it is before I consider upgrading the rating. Overall, I'll be returning to this pub for a second experience.
