Been so many times and it's (mostly) been really good. Had a couple of bad experiences with rude waiting staff - try to get a table with Sam as your waiter - he's professional & courteous. We went there with friends for my birthday and were so pleasantly surprised at this wonderful gem!! We sat outside and thought we might be forgotten way in the corner, but had excellent service and food! They had a halibut special that was outstanding and a filet that my friend had that was done perfect! The wine selection is great and reasonably priced. They even have crime brûlée!! The only reason it didn't get 5 stars from me is you look at the parking lot and it's kind of noisy with the cars. But definitely worth a visit to this local gem!! read more

Perfect date night place or Sunday brunch! My fiancé and I absolutely love this place. The wine selection is out of this world. We enjoy it because you can get a cheaper bottle of wine but also splurge and get an expensive, nice bottle wine. They have a full bar as well. Last time we went we ordered old fashions that were to die for! Their food is incredible too. Best scallops I've had in a long time. Sunday brunch is incredible. I ordered french fries ala carte. The description made them sound special and delicious. It said, "made with garlic olive oil, parsley, and parmesan cheese. When I got home I found a box of thinly cut, dried out, fries. if there was any garlic olive oil, parsley, or parmesan cheese on them it was so subtle as to be a mystery as to where they were. it's sad to find take-out orders so below par- when one cannot send them back or ask for something different. It was disappointing. We came for dinner and tried a few different things. First, we ordered the fried Brussels sprouts, and they were good, probably the best thing we had that evening. I ordered the chicken liver mousse. When I placed the order, I asked my server which wine he recommended with that and he said that he didn't know. A bit surprising since this is a wine establishment, but OK. Credit to him for being extremely pleasant and helpful otherwise. He simply did not know. The mousse wasn't very good in my opinion. It had a pronounced flavor of something we didn't enjoy... not sure what it was. I didn't finish it. We also had the mussels. Those were probably among the most disappointing mussels we ever had. They were supposed to be steamed in wine and butter and all of those other yummy things. But it tasted like water was the main ingredient. The sauce was watery and flavorless. Whereby we usually love to dunk our bread in the sauce, we had no desire on this night. It was another dish we did not finish. I doubt that we'll return. read more

We've been eating at the 3rd Corner in Encinitas at least once every 6 weeks or so for the last 2 years. Over that time the menu has been revised a few times but with each iteration it manages to maintain it's high quality and good value. Over the last couple of years we have worked through the entre-side of the menu and every item we tried has been top-notch. The only down side has been the uneven standard of the dining service. There appears to be a high turn over among the wait-staff who vary from lackadaisical to border-line apathy. I don't actually fault the individual servers who fall on the dark side, but rather the management who hires them and allows the poor service to persist. However, there has been one consistent bright star in that void. If at all possible try and get seated in the section that Grant M covers. He consistently embodies what the rest of the staff should be aspiring to in terms of his professionalism and attentive service. Hopefully, whoever is running that part of the operation will wake up and give him some worthy coworkers. read more

I have only been to the bar area of 3rd Corner, but that alone is enough to bring me back. I feel like a lot of the bars around the area are in the "hipster" phase (Moscow mules, succulents, etc.) which is nice, but sometimes you want a change of pace and 3rd Corner is now my go-to for that. They are open until 1 (awesome late night happy hour) and offer a great place to meet for a drink that is intimate, yet still lively. The wine selection is of course fabulous, but they also offer killer cocktails and a good selection of beer, so anyone can be satisfied. read more

The 3rd Corner is the PERFECT Sunday Funday brunch spot. With a decently priced bottomless mimosa brunch (with an a la carte version available) this was the ideal location to celebrate my birthday with sever of my friends. The restaurant accommodated our big group out on the patio and were friendly and attentive the entire time. The food is always delicious! The idea is imaginative. There's a wine market with food alternatives too. There's a lounge like area having a couple of couches for those who get there early enough to make the most of them. I came here for the first time on a date last night, and I had the chicken penne pasta and my date had a shrimp chorizo pasta dish. The food was really good, but it was so loud there we had to practically yell to hear each other. I was disappointed because apparently they specialize in having a variety of wines, but upon looking at the menu they had a handful of whites and a few more red wines. The Cap'n Crunch french toast is amazing (and very sweet) and everything else there that I've eaten has been OMG SO GOOD! Great happy hour - they have a $5 red, white, & sparkling option. The $7 watermelon martinini is very delicious also! They also have an amazing selection of wine and only a $5 corkage fee. The burger was really good and very good size for the price! (Which during happy hour is only $11.95!) There is a cheese plate and baked brie on the starters menu that look fabulous. Once upon a late night.....my girlfriends and I were starving! Didn't want albertacos, or fast food, so someone told us about this place - we went immediately! Sure enough, it was open late night....we ordered fish, hamburgers, french fries, salad, and water! And you know what.....it was all great!!!! I am amazed! Can't judge this one by it's cover.....looks like a little rinky dink place off Coast Hwy, but it's actually alright inside..our waitress; eh - she was a little cranky, but we were hungry so if she brought food, she was my best friend! I am NEVER coming here again. I love wine bars, and this was my worst experience ever...I was visiting my friend up north for the day. After a day at the beach and discussion of my affinity for wine she recommended we drop into 3rd Corner. It was around 4 on a monday afternoon so it wasn't too busy at all. There were a few seats open at the bar still and almost all of the tables were empty. Upon arrival, my friend and I sat down at a table right across from the bar and patiently waited to be served. tick tock, tick tock...more than 10 minutes go by and even though at servers walked by multiple times and even the manager a few times..not one person stopped at our table or offered us water or menus. After 15 minutes our stomachs couldn't handle it and I had to stop a girl I assumed to be the hostess, and when she finally came over I tried to tell her that we had to been waiting for 15 minutes fairly nicely, but she cut me off and just walked away without even listening. My friend later informed me she wanted to just walk out at this point, but we decided to stick it out. We ordered a pitcher of sangria, and a few appetizers---but the sangria was not particularly good at all, and the appetizers mediocre. The food wasn't bad, but we all know that horrible service (meaning, being ignored) can ruin a great meal, forget one that's not particularly noteworthy. Finally, we got so offended we didn't finish our sangria or food, tried to quickly ask for the check/pay and go somewhere else where they would appreciate our business. But even that took forever..needless to say, neither my friend nor I will ever be going back to this establishment. read more

I have been to the ob 3rd corner. Had a great time. Went in Encinitas wi gf and here parents. I only had two beers and they had (bottomless) mimosas. No one got drinks filled filled until I walked in to the restaurant to ask a random server/manager for them. Each time. I needed to ask for refills when there were only 3 tables seated. Went to this horrible establishment on a date night. Dinner was great. We proceeded to attempt to pay out bill used 2 gift cards one restaurant and 1 Visa card and then chose to put cash in for the remainder of our bill. Server returned to our table claiming we never paid the cash. The owner proceeded to tell us we were lying. Asked them to pull the tapes they said they were too blurry to see. Never in my life have I been treated with such disrespect in a restaurant. When the incompetent server finds his cash he'll know what we paid. I have been here numerous times since my last review and I have to say that it gets better every time. EVERYTHING I have ordered has always been on point. 3 years later and the scallops are still my favorite, but I'm also a huge fan of their brunch too! $17 for a meal and AYCD mimosas. Lincoln's Hash is phenomenal and my Dad (who is an unintentional foodie) said it was THE best breakfast he has ever had. We went here for Sunday brunch. One entree with bottomless mimosas is $19. If you don't want the mimosas then an entree is $14. The menu selection is small. I wish they had more appealing breakfast items. There was 4 of us and we ordered 2 of their 3rd Corner Omelets, chilaquiles, and Chef Lincoln's Hash. We shared all of the food family style. None of us like the food. The omelets would have been good, but they were really salty. Everyone agreed that it was overly seasoned. The hash had chorizo in it, but it was a bit too spicy so overpowering the flavors and salty. The chilaquiles barely had any sauce. No red or green sauce. It was a plate of chips with cheese and that was about it. Again, spicy and salty! We seriously are not picky people. We love food and enjoy anything from a fast food burger to a gourmet dinner. Oh and the homefries were different. They were cooked with veggies and caramelized so the potatoes were mushy and almost candied like. The items we chose were not good. We didn't even finish our meals. Contrary to some of the reviews on here, the service was great. The hostess was very nice, server, and food runner were all great. read more

Pick your personal bottle from the dozens out there..the only poor point is you've got to wait for your wine to chill, but it is not that large of an inconvenience. It's not as quirky and quaint as the one in Ocean Beach but it's still good:) they have a special - 6 bottles for $60 their selection. It seems quite popular and they have a great selection of all types and grades. We had a Rose of the month and the 3rd corner red selection. We started with garlic fries - thin and crisp with Parmesan dusts and slightly garlicky- perfect- and big portion to share even for a table of 4. We had the penne with sausage and seafood risotto. The penne was substituted with a white wine sauce instead of the heavy creme sauce. The sausage was unusually spicy and the sauce a bit on the salty side for me. The risotto has 3 nice size scallops pan fried perfectly and 3 shrimps a bit over cooked and the risotto a bit too gummy... but the service was excellent and the waiter well versed on the menu and wine selections. We sat out on the semi-covered patio and it was nice and quiet. read more

This restaurant tries to be good but just isn't. We have been here a few times since we like wine and you can purchase a bottle and there is a $5 corkage fee. Great way to try new wines when going out. But the food service is just terrible. This is the third time in a row that the server forgot about us, did not have the kitchen make minor modifications to our meal, etc. The food is tries to be special but is just average. The wine shop has a great selection to choose from with prices that are a little on the higher end for retail, but combined with the $5 corkage for bottles purchased and opened in the dining room it is a great value. My husband and I have been customers of The 3rd Corner since it opened. We have experience many years of great service, wonderful food and interesting wines until this last six months. I don't know what has happened, the food and wine is still good but the service is terrible. On our last few visits we have experience slow/rude servers, forgotten drinks/entrees, and angry customers sitting near us. After our last visit I sent an email to the customer service address on their website, it has been a couple of weeks and they have not responded. My husband wants to try one more time but I say there are many other local restaurants that we can support. read more
