Everytime I come here, I become less impressed. This place was my favorite place for Brussels sprouts but was advised by the staff that the recipe changes with the seasons. I always order the Brussels sprouts and the mussels hoping for the same Brussels sprouts (recipe) I had last October. Mussels today were nothing extraordinary. Watch out for the waitress Kim. she refused to give my hubby his sandwich without mayo, even when we made it clear how severe his high cholesterol has gotten lately (please keep him in your prayers!). Delicious wine bar plus restaurant. They have a wine shop where you can pick your own bottle of wine with your meal or order by the glass. They were very helpful with diet restrictions as we had gone with someone who couldn't eat too much salt and someone who was gluten free. Their meals are fresh and interesting! Glad to see The 3rd Corner in North County - YAY!! We ate here twice the first week it was open and had spectacular food, wine & service (which is rather rare when a place first opens)... Anyway, we had the opportunity to meet up with some out-of-town friends this weekend and this was the first place that came to mind. What makes this place so different is that it's a wine shop and restaurant in one. You can peruse the wine aisles before, during and after your meal, then bring the wine back to your table to enjoy for a measly $5 corkage fee (GREAT DEAL compared to other SD restaurants). Now I'm not going to tout my wine skills, but I will rave about my BFs...he's got encyclopedic knowledge of most domestic wines and has been impressed by the selection & prices at both the Encinitas & OB locations. While I will agree with Andre W. that the value on the food is not great, the QUALITY AND FLAVOR of their selections IS GREAT! One thing we're hooked on is the Stilton & Goat Cheese Terrine. TO. DIE. FOR. They're pretty chincy on the zucchini bread that comes with it and they encourage you to purchase a baguette to accompany. The baguette should definitely be included because there is absolutely NO WAY to eat the entire terrine w/only the 4 corners of zucchini bread they give you. I give this place 5 stars because it's the only place that's open late night in town. That said, the food is good, as is the service. I wish they had some more vegetarian options, but what they do have is good. My only complaint would be that it's a bit chatcky feeling (you know, middle class pretending to be all fabulous and chic), but hey, they're open late and that's fantastic. read more

Overall - Great selection of wines for SoCal, Food was good, Parking was a hassle. Finding a spot to park was one of the more challenging tasks. The lot is clearly not big enough for the patronage. I guess this could be a good thing. The selection of wines was good. Limited US selections outside of CA, but otherwise good representation. In addition, the staff helping select wines was very knowledgeable and the wines were very good. Unlike some other reviewers, I wasn't as impressed with the cheese plate. It was satisfactory, but nothing to write home about. We ordered several appetizers. I felt the best was the hummus plate. On the downside, several of our mussels came-out closed. The offered to put them on the fire again, but I thought the dish should have been replaced. Everyone else in the party were satisfied with their entrees. We ordered the Gelato and Cookie desert. It just felt that the cookie should have been soft and warm. Instead, it was a brittle and cold gingerbread cookie. It didn't go well with the gelato. Others in our party ordered this dish previously and commented that it used to come out warm and soft. I think it would have made a big improvement on the dish. After all the good reviews I was excited to check this place out. Unfortunately we had some issues. 1) We were sat and waited 15 minutes before anyone came to the table. We were discussing walking out, when someone finally came over. It was near 5:00, so we could only guess it was due to a shift change of some sort. 2) They brought the wrong order to us twice, and the server rolled his eyes at us and made a remark under his breath, as if we didn't know what we ordered (he wasn't our server so maybe he was just a runner who doesn't know the menu). We were shocked. He literally told us that the baked goat cheese was not something on their menu. 10 min later he returned with the baked goat cheese. Then the entrees came, and again we were given the wrong item - linguini instead of risotto. On the plus side, the food we actually did get was pretty tasty. We may give the place another shot at some point. read more

Food - very good! Drinks - good. Service - pretty bad. First, we were seated and then waited a very long time for anyone to come to the table. We were both pretty hungry, so we were getting antsy! The waitress was very nice and took our orders. The appetizer came out before our drinks arrived from the bar (about 10 minutes). The place was almost empty, so drinks really shouldn't have taken this long. The appetizer that was brought out was a salad....we ordered the baked goat cheese plate. There is also a goat cheese salad, but that's not what I ordered...I even pointed it out to the waitress. The person that brought out the food was a young guy with dark hair. When I told him what we had actually ordered, he told me that wasn't on the menu. I explained that it definitely was since I had pointed it out to the waitress. He said he would check with the kitchen. When he was walking away, I caught him rolling his eyes at us. So, our waitress comes back with our drinks finally and we tell her that the wrong plate was brought out. She apologized and said she had definitely put the app in and not the salad and she would get it straightened out. She brought out the correct plate a few minutes later. The dark haired guy never came back. The baked goat cheese plate - AMAZING. So, we got our entrees. I had ordered the mushroom and asparagus risotto. I got some sort of mushroom linguini. It was delicious, but not what I ordered. I ate it because I was hungry and didn't feel like waiting a half hour for the kitchen to make me the correct plate. So, obviously this place has some issues to work out as far as their service. Our waitress was very nice....I don't know if the mistakes were her fault or the kitchen's fault. The kid with the dark hair should be fired, though. He had an awful attitude and definitely isn't doing that place any favors. I would try it again since the food was really good. If the service was as bad the second time, though, I wouldn't give it a third chance. Hopefully, they will get things straightened out in the near future. I'll update if/when I go back. read more

How anybody gives this place a one star review needs to stick to McDonald's or ordered the wrong thing. Went there the other night. My dad had a big piece of salmon which he said was simply out of this world good. I had the hummus and crostini w/feta on the side. The hummus was a little bland but still very good. The "kitchen sink" salad was awesome w/tons of warm grilled chicken on top cooked perfectly. The arugula was so fresh. My wife's chorizo dish was really good as well. I LOVE 3rd Corner. I have come here since they first opened and weren't so trendy. I miss Alex, but TJ is still there from the original crew. Great selection of wine, food is almost always yummy - I think I've only had one so so meal since they opened. The locked wine cellar room holds some wonderful special wines when you wish to splurge. Solterra (too crowded and trended out!!) and Gaffney's (blah) are also in Encinitas, but 3rd C, will always have my heart! read more

I've been to 3rd Corner many times and we went there based on my recommendation. As soon as I mention this they will know exactly who I am. I specifically asked if the Ahi was sushi grade and it was definitely not it was granular and tough and did not eat half of it. I let the waitress know and nothing was taken off the bill poor poor service when you count on people coming back again and again. This is my fifth time at 3rd Corner in Encinitas. The first four were extremely pleasant. Great service, delicious food and wine of course. Yesterday my friend decided to make a reservation for 6 to celebrate 4 of our birthdays. She specifically asked and insisted to be seated inside as opposed to the patio where they have heaters. Because we didn't want to have one part of our body burning and the other cold. We got there and surprise our table was outside. It was not possible to move us inside despite some empty tables at that time. Very disappointed we settled on the patio (was hat else could we do at this time?) under a burning heater. We asked if it could be turned down but it can only be on or off. We turned it off because the top of our heads were literally burning. It was extremely uncomfortable. Of course after a short while the friends seated close to the outside plastic "wall" were cold and the others had one side warm and the other cold. What a way to turn a beautiful experience into a poor one with potentially catching colds or the flu. I have a sore throat this morning and I know why. I am so disappointed. read more

Only place that serves food after 11pm. The ham sandwich is a must. They make a great cocktail. I never order the salads or the pasta, I've heard people complain about those. Duck Confit is the bomb! Brunch is also good. Their bloody mary is inconsistent (The first time we had it, it was spicy amazing goodness, everytime since then, it's like guzzling pickle brine) but their version of a eggs benedict is outta this world. I'm only giving 3rd Corner 5 stars because of the wine selection and how cheap it is not so much the service. The bartenders here are amazing but everyone else is a bit weird or snotty. The hostess's are not the most friendly people. But the wine! The wine is really terrific here and it's incredibly cheap. My boyfriend and I love to come here and have a bottle and the cheese plate. I definitely suggest buying by the bottle and not the glass, so come with a group. The wines by the glass here are overpriced, I think. read more

Over the past year, I have been frequenting neighborhood stops and often find myself dining at the bar with tremendous service. While I prefer to order food that isn't on the menu, the kitchen always prepares an amazingly delicious meal, although it has occasionally arrived with a little additional salt, and I stress the 'occasional' because the chef and his staff work wonders in the kitchen. The specials are typically fantastic meals and include some great flavor combinations. I often recommend this spot for friends who visit, or for anyone anticipating a fun night out. Overall, the restaurant itself is a great venue for a meal with some friends, and I highly recommend grabbing a seat at the bar if you can... especially if Sarah or Ryan is at the helm. When either one of these great people are working, you will never find yourself without good conversation, an empty glass, or a smile on your face. If Yelp allowed me to, I would give them both 6 stars! Every time I have stopped in with Sarah running the show, the service was remarkable and the food better than expected. Sarah knows beer, wine, cocktails, and food... she is engaging, friendly, and genuine... Don't pass up a seat at the bar if she's working! Ryan is another one of those people that you should experience next time you stop in. He always has great recommendations for pairing beer or wine with food and keeps everyone entertained and engaged at the bar. I always seem to stay for one more round when he's working and typically call a few friends to meet me there as well... All that sounds like a five star review, right? So after a year-and-a-half of being open, and hearing about this place from my roomate, who basically lives there, I decided to check it out last night. Glad I did! There was about a 15 min wait on Wed. night for 2 at 7p. Took a stroll into bar area and found two seats open at end of it so we snagged those. Upon learning there was no bottle list we were advised to walk over to their selection section and pick out a bottle- Pretty cool. Found a $55 bottle of a rare type that started with a "G". Was one fo best reds I've had, atleast the quality justified the price in my opinion. Brie/Asparagus app was pretty good. Definitely rich. Entrees were amazing. The pound of Steamed Mussels were on point and my spicy Shrimp pasta with bacon and capers was great as well. Had two "Nutty Irishmen"adult coffees for desert which were also great. My sisters and I took our mother here for Mother's Day. The three of us ordered avocado toast for our brunch (which cost $16.95). It came out with a guacamole spread, tasting like it came out of a tub (definitely not homemade), for the avocado. Never have I ordered avocado toast and got a spread. Beware!- it was horrible with all the prepared food salt & spice taste. Go to Better Buzz down the street for really good avocado toast. This was not worth even $5. Will never go back here for food. My wife and have enjoyed dining here for many years, enjoying the food and reasonably priced wine. Over the last year we have noticed the food has gone from good to outstanding. The staff have made a huge effort to make it safe for their clients, but at our age we depend on takeouts. This Sunday we had the smoked tomato seafood medley with penne pasta, which was spectacular and blended beautifully with an Italian wine. Great restaurant, lovely staff, excellent price. I lived in Carlsbad for a year and never knew this place existed. I missed out for months! Janelle, our server was great. She took the time to find out the ingredients of a dish for me since I eat plant based food. The ambience is lovely since you are surrounded by wind bottles in crates and the bar are is separated from the fine dining. Water was often topped off, which is a good sign of excellent service. When I first walked in here I was confused by the set-up with the "wine store" throughout the seating area. I was also disappointed that the hostess sat us at probably the worst table, facing the kitchen and it was 5:30 with only a few tables seated so far. After we switched tables and found a bottle of Pinot Noir from the Hitching Post I felt better. I ordered the salmon and it was fantastic. Probably one of the best salmon dinners I have had. Moist and very flavorful with the tomato and fennel confit. The tables are VERY close together and I sort of felt like we were on a double date with the table next to us...literally it was like one foot away. I have yet to be disappointed! We usually order and highly suggest the following: * Artisan Cheese Plate - if you like cheese, the strongest one (a blue cheese) tastes like the wild animal park...in a good way * Olive Sampler or Paté Sampler * Black Truffle Risotto * Pan Seared Scallops * Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding (OMG, so freakin' good) I don't drink, so I can't recommend or comment on the wine, but I've heard good things and my husband seems to like it. After surfing the web for a good happy hour option in Encinitas, I stumbled on The 3rd Corner HAPPY HOUR (Monday-Saturday 3:00pm to 6:00pm and11:00pm to close). The 3rd Corner is a nice mix of fancy and relaxed. The Food and Drink: The $6 wine flight is a great deal and they have really good wine. The beer flight $6 isn't as good of deal, but a great way to try a couple local favorites. I dove right into the 3rd Corner Burger ($10). I also tried the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail, House Salad, and Bbq Beef Sliders- all excellent. Looking forward to coming back and trying other items on the menu! read more
