For some strange reason whenever this strange red liquid passes down my throat in abundance I think I'm Johnny Cash and my girlfriend is June Carter Cash and I start serenading the entire bar to my rendition of "Jackson". Luckily I haven't graced the patrons of 3rd Corner with the likes of my voice that is the audible equivalent of Chuck Norris Tebowing on top of Mount Everest while fireworks are exploding in the background and all of a sudden you realize you're in an Old Spice commercial and you wonder when Terry Crews is going to jump on you while he's riding his magical tiger, cue laughter and/or quizzical look on your face. 3rd Corner reminds me alot of the sneaker section at Nordstrom, there are literally hundreds of places you could go to buy the same sneakers for much less than the marked up, buttcheek spreading prices you pay for at Nordys but you wan't to seem like a class act and maybe you can impress some girls at the local bar when you spill your crappy light beer all over those low top Puma's that you got two hours earlier for $150.00 in the "clearance" section by saying "Dammit I just got these at Nordstroms!" all the while you look like an ass with not only overpriced sneakers, but overpriced sneakers that smell as cheap as they look because they have beer on them now. 3rd Corner is full of great wines (shoes), and sure just like every other restaurant they have to make a profit so these BevMo wines are marked up (shoes), so what right? Well let's just say you won't feel like Will Smith in a swanky downtown restaurant when sipping on your vino in here, then you say "Well Captain Badass this place really isn't meant to be like that, it's more of a locals type of spot" and I answer, first it's General Badass to you and second this place just like every other food/drinking spot on Coast Highway these days has tried to class it up and 3rd Corner is no different in trying. Do I really want to sit in Diner style booth seats in that I have to share the same bench with another patron who is sitting just a couple feet away from me while dining on a laminated table and having to stare at the most depressing white wall with a tourist map of various European countries that looks like it was framed back in the 1980's when Zubaz pants were in style? 3rd Corner attempts to wine and dine you like that guy in the corner wearing Ed Hardy jeans and a tribal tattoo shirt that has been staring at you and your posse all night and has been laughing at the jokes you have been sharing with one another and you have no idea at how he can hear you. Had a few hiccups before on a couple of occasions with the servers (they were new on one occasion), but a quick talk to the manager clears everything up right away so no big deal. Oh boy. The 3rd Corner is a special little gem at the south end of Encinitas that I will continue to frequent until like...forever. Not only is their happy hour amaze-balls, the food and service is OFF THE CHAIN. I've been here before and been overly impressed, but this particular Sunday Brunch just sent me over the edge. Literally. Zach was our bartender and he took "bottomless" mimosas very seriously. We are a big fan of Zach. He's pretty much the shit. I might add now that the brunch is $21.95 and includes BOTTOMLESS mimosas. Not many places in this area offer something of this caliber, not to mention quality food. My husband and I went here for my birthday on September 28th. This was our second visit, and totally different from the first. Our reservtion was for 6:30, however we called around 5 to see if we could move it to 7:30. Whoever answered when we called said it was not an issue to come an hour later. When we arrived, we were greeted by a very young hostess with braces. I only mention the braces for identification purposes. She first showed us to a table on the patio seated next to a neon sign (the only neon sign in the place). When we asked to sit at one of the many other open tables, she said in a very nasty tone "they're reserved and you're late for your reservation." Are you serious? She did not care when I explained we had called. So, this rude and immature hostess punished us for a miscommunication on part of the restaurant staff. If we showed up an hour late without calling to ensure it wasn't a problem, I would be annoyed too. However, this was not the case. Her attitude was shocking. I'm guessing/hoping she complained about us to our waitress because her service was terrible. We kept having to flag down food runners and bussers to get water refills, silverware. etc. I don't know if it was because it was a Wednesday night. Our first visit was on a Saturday and the service was professional. Based on this last experience, I will never go back. read more

Wow this is so exciting I always went to 3rd Corner in OB, known for their wine selections and a long time history visiting the French renowned restaurant Thy Bungalow in OB--across the street. Now we have a bit of 3rd Corner in Encinitas. Sorry to see Sbicca leave but you see them in Del Mar. :) 3rd Corner has a great concept for those who love wine, this is mainly a retail store, come with a friend, buy a bottle of wine and then open it table side for a standard corkage of $5.00. Inventive starters and entrees although limited in a "full restaurant" faire if that is what you are used to. This is a MUST for those of us who love to do appetizeers and cheerish our wines. Average glass of wine if you don't buy a bottle is $9.00 per glass but they choose the best. You can't go wrong with 3rd Corner unless you are one of those guys or galls that want a "side of ribs" or 12 ox steak. 3rd Corner Quality and Presentation and great ambience are worth the visit. I have been coming to 3rd corner for a while now and I have been to each location many times (including the desert). I love the selection of wines... though I do think that most of it is main stream, and typically I am looking for unknown bottles. I love talking to the buyers and finding a new bottle that is something that they are excited about getting in. The food is hit or miss. I do think that this locations food is less satisfying than the OB location. However, I still eat here frequently. I love the baked brie, they add a jam under the pastry that is wonderful. I also love the Humbolt Fog with mushrooms. I typically end up ordering their special, because it changes and is usually fish. I just feel that their menu needs an update. I have had some AMAZING service here, but then I have also had some of the worst service ever here. It depends on your server, but the staff all pools their tips... so rewarding your great server, which we always do, rewards the crappy ones too. Overall this is a great place and I continue to patron it. read more

I have learned about so many wines from Ed and Alex at the Third Corner! (I was a regular at the OB outpost before this one opened). If you go there enough they learn your palate. There is nothing better than being greeted with "we have a new bottle of __ that I think you will really enjoy". I love that whenever I'm there I'm trying something new. The food is good, not haut cuisine that's for sure, but servicable. Anyway, I go for the wine and atmosphere. Regarding the "ladies night out" thing. This place is great. Went for the second time last night, but ate for the first time. The baked brie was amazing, so good, as was the house salad and the salmon was great too. It was busy, but we still got our food in a pretty timely manner. And its awesome you can just grab whatever wine you want to drink too--corkage is only $5 a bottle!!! Fantastic experience here on Valentine's day dinner. The place does not have the most appealing exterior and so I kind of doubted how the whole experience is going to be especially on a V-day eve but everything from the time we entered the place was terrific. The service was friendly, co-cordial and fast. The bread-butter that came before our meal was was a conversation starter :). They have a great wine collection. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, very delish. The wild mushroom risotto was super yummy. They were out on scallops that evening so we ordered Ahi poke which was ok (we certainly had better at some other places). Very good selection of wine and the low corkage fee is worth it. The mushroom and baked goat cheese appetizer was amazing. Nice large fresh salads. Rose of the day is always great! I also really, really like their cocktails. Such good bartenders. They also have a wine club that belong to. It's just too darn easy to walk down and get a bottle. This is a fantastic and true gem of Encinitas. The other location in OB is excellent as well, but this location is much larger and has a better bar/ wine area. This place has a wide selection of wines and a bar so if wines not your thing you can still find something with alcohol in it. It is open late so if making it during normal dinner times isn't an option you can still get their dinner menu past 10pm. We will be coming back here in the future. read more

First off, I only had 1 glass of wine while waiting to eat next door at Blue Ribbon, so I didn't try the food. Might have been because we were early but nobody greeted us, I had to ask a startled employee who happened to be passing by the door where to sit for a glass of wine. My boyfriend and I each ordered the same glass of wine and after we paid our tab, walked around the store to find the bottle we ordered would have been the same price including the corkage fee, as the 2 glasses we had. Seemed like a cool place but it would have been nice if the bartender had mentioned that to us. Whatever, I like the concept of buying a bottle for retail price enough to maybe check out with my girlfriends on a weekend or something. read more

My husband and I made a reservation for 2 at 9P.M. on a Saturday night and were seated right away. Our server Antonio S. Was so friendly and helped us pick wine pairings with our main dishes. My husband really enjoyed his Zinfandel he ordered but i didnt super care for the 3rd corner cabernet because of how much acidity there was. But the beef short rib meal was amazing and so was my husbands duck confit. We both really enjoyed the food. For desert we ordered the chocolate turtle torte and the bread pudding and both were to die for! Also got the Irish coffee and they were very generous with the whiskey. My fiancé and I have eaten here a number of times for dinner and have never had a bad meal or service. We dined here last night as we had a gift card we'd been saving for a night out. We made reservations for 7:30pm on a Friday night and were seated promptly on the patio near a large party. Throughout the meal there were a couple issues that arose that could have completely ruined our experience there. It took our waitress a good 10+ minutes to take our drink order once we were sat, my wine was delivered in a not completely clean glass and the large table next to us kept somehow adding chairs and people (without asking anyone on the waitstaff) to their table. However our waitress and the manager proactively delt with all of these issues without us having to say anything. After the initial wait our food came out quickly (and was delicious!) and we were checked on frequently. My wine was quickly replaced without any attitude from our waitress. The manager took it upon himself to help move our table to give us more space, and asked if we'd like to completely move to a different table inside when one became available, after one of the jerks at the table behind us pulled up a chair so close to me that he could have basically eaten off my plate. Finally, we were offered dessert to help make up for the inconveniences during our meal, which we thought was such a nice gesture though not completely necessary since everything was handled so professionally throughout the meal. None of these things were a huge deal, but we felt that the staff at 3rd Corner really cared about our overall experience there and did everything they could to make it a good one. We definitely noticed and appreciated the above and beyond service and thought it was worth sharing. read more

I'm giving this restaurant 4 stars because the food and service is excellent, and the space is more than pleasant. Seared scallops with potatoes and beans was perfectly prepared, and today I had a fabulously thick, juicy burger with amazing fries, wonderfully crunchy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, but the clientele seems highbrow and somewhat aloof... Unless you are dressed to impress.. Definitely not the place to go after spending the day paragliding at the park... I met a "public figure" and two women made of plastic. Nearly. If that's your kind of scene, then this is a big bingo. If not, I would very highly suggest making this more of a date place than a bar/wine stop. Third Corner is a very charming place, with a wonderful wine selection, and great service. On weekends it is packed, so consider yourself warned! Food wise there are many options. I'm from New York and I guess I'm just really picky with food. 3rd corner is where I took all my friends who came to visit me when I lived in Encinitas for a year. Ive tried at least 2/3 of their menu of the course of my visits and everything was spectacular. I'm writing this having lived there 3 years ago and can still recall the amazing pork, short ribs, charcuterie plate, duck confit, Brie appetizer... Really I can go on forever. Wonderful.
