I came to this dealer both because they had the precise used car I was interested in, and their reviews on various social media sites were all positive. The car business is a rough and tumble world and it is rare to find a dealership that gets largely positive reviews. I am now going to add to their positive tally. Upon my first call I spoke with a Mr. Tim Hernandez. He was courteous and willing to answer all of my questions. I am a car guy and have little patience for your " typical " car salesmen. Lucky for all Tim was not " typical ". He shared with me that the particular car I was shopping was likely the cleanest car in his inventory. The CarFax was very detailed and offered on the Thayer Honda site for all to see. Fast forward past the many phone calls to Tim asking additional questions to the point where we committed to driving the two hours from our home in Michigan to Bowling Green, Ohio. We finally arrive and the car is precisely as told to me over the phone. For a car from 2005 it was very clean. I have detailed dozens of cars myself and I know their detail guy did a very good job. Still, this car went past a car that spent a day in the spa. This car was well looked after by the previous owners. My wife drives the car and likes it. We agree to buy it. We did the paperwork with very little fuss and head back to Michigan. Two days later I drive the car for the 1st time and immediately observe the clutch action is just not right. I have literally owned hundreds of cars...dozens of them with manual transmissions ( we wanted this CRV specifically because it was a manual transmission ) and there was something quite wonky with the pedal pressure and the noise it was making. I research the issue online and discover this is a common problem with this generation of both the Civic and the CRV ( built on the same chassis ) and I find out their was a service bulletin issued for this very issue. I figure I am on the hook for the repair bill which would likely be about $500 dollars for the 90 minutes to fix it plus parts. I was kicking myself for not driving it myself prior to having my wife drive it home. Three days later Tim Hernandez writes to me to see if I am enjoying the car. I write back that I am " mostly " and then describe the issue with the clutch pedal. You might want to sit down for this next part of the story. Tim Hernandez writes back to me and invites me to come back to Thayer Honda and the dealership will gladly repair the problem as per the Honda service advisory. Do you understand the significance of this gesture? The car was bought AS-IS. No warranty was offered or suggested. AS-IS as in...you are out of luck. NOPE....Thayer Honda invites me back so they can make it right. Super impressed barely covers it. This speaks volumes about both the integrity of Tim Hernandez, and also of the management and ownership at Thayer Honda. I cannot recall in my 45 years of buying cars for friends and family EVER having a dealer offer to do a repair on a used car after you drive it off the lot. Yes they saved me the grief and expense of a few hundred dollars...but more importantly they helped restore a bit of my faith in the automobile business. I went to another dealership further away from my home where they told me I needed to fix a leak in my oil line. I went to Thayer Honda cause it was closer and they found nothing. In fact, they refuse to look at the sheet from the other dealership. Assuming it was fine I continued on until Valvoline told me there was a leak. I went back to Thayer Honda and they found nothing again. In fact, they seemed annoyed that I even questioned it. I guess if they don't know about it it's not real even if they miss it read more

I have taken both of my Hondas (Insight and CR-V) to Thayer Honda for service since moving back to the area from Texas 3 years ago. Yesterday I called Thayer to make an appointment to have my oil changed. I was told I could not get an appointment for 3 weeks. Since my oil needed changing and since my family was coming to visit in 2 weeks requiring me to do a lot of driving, I drove to Brown Honda Express Service. Without an appointment they changed the oil and rotated the tires. The whole service took less than 40 minutes and they washed my car when they finished! This is not the only reason I choose not to go back to Thayer for service. I have 2 friends that have had trouble with the diagnoses Thayer gave them. One friend was having a noise coming from one of her wheels. The Thayer technician told her it was caused from a tire cupping. Relying on this information she bought a new set of tires. The noise was still there and it got worse. My friend took it back to Thayer and they told her the problem was a worn wheel bearing. They replaced the bearing and the noise was gone. Of course my friend was out the expense of replacing a set of tires which were not ready to be replaced. A second friend of mine had a similar experience. She was taking a trip to the east coast and took her Civic to Thayer to have it readied for the trip. She mentioned a noise coming from one of her wheels. They told her the noise was from a tire cupping. Not trusting this diagnosis she took her car to Firestone Complete Auto Care where she told them about the noise. After driving and inspecting the car they told her she needed a new wheel bearing. They replaced the wheel bearing for her the same day and the noise was gone. I no longer have confidence in Thayer Honda Service. Their inability to schedule routine maintenance within a reasonable time and the mistaken diagnoses experienced by my friends have caused me not to trust Thayer to care for my Hondas. read more

Yesterday, June 11, 2019 traveling through Ohio (from Florida), our new vehicle had an issue on the screen, so we stopped here to ask if they could take a look at it to see if there was anything major going on. We were told they are "by appointment only" and were scheduling into the following week. He did tell us if we wanted to SIT AND WAIT FOR HOURS they might be able to look at our vehicle SOMETIME that day. I asked him to give me an estimate of what time I could come back instead of sitting there waiting and then he said NEXT WEEK. We understand the appointment scheduling; however, they need to accommodate people traveling through the area when needed. We were willing to do whatever he might have suggested so we can find out what's actually going on with our car, but the service tech acted like we were bothering him and basically walked away from us. Glad we didn't buy our new CRV from here!!!! read more

We bought a car from there. The night we bought it, found that a headlight was burnt out, and brake light was out, the entire sound system in the car didn't function (they thought it was a bad radio, obviously never did any inspection on the car before selling it), heated seats not functional, and the check engine light came on. They had it for 2 to 3 weeks to repair all the things wrong that should have been caught before it was even out for sale. Got it back, same day the check engine light comes on again, heated still don't work, and they taped the temporary tag over the rear defroster in a way that tore the filament off when trying to remove the tag. Would NOT recommend to anyone. You pay cash for a car, it should at least have been inspected before being put up for sale. read more

I had an appointment yesterday, 8/2/2021, to have door sill protectors put on my new HR-V. They had to order the parts and they arrived quickly. They then called to set up the appointment and at that time no installation price was discussed. I had previously shopped for the parts at the Honda eStore and the website gave an installed price. I made the assumption they would be in the neighborhood price wise. Upon arriving for my appointment I asked the service rep if he could tell me what it was going to cost for installation. He looked at his screen a shrugged that there was no quote given and he really wasn't sure. I then showed him the price that the eStore had given and he began to inform me that they don't honor prices from third party websites. I and the Honda employee standing next to him explained that the Honda eStore was indeed a genuine Honda entity and the price quote was legit. He then took my paper and huffed off to "talk to someone about it". He returned to say they would honor the price. After the car returned from getting serviced I looked at the sill protectors and found that they weren't adhering to the sills properly. They were coming up where they bend down over the outer edge of the sill and when push back in place they popped right back up. When I asked about it is when it got insulting. The first rep tried to tell me that when the car heated up, after I left with it, that the film would soften and mold itself to the sill. ( I didn't think to ask what would happen if it were January and not August.) I told him I disagreed and that I was not happy with them not adhering properly. He contended that it was normal for them to not stick right away the same as when you install window tint. Having lived in Phoenix for awhile and having a few cars tinted I questioned that. That's when the first rep went and got someone else to talk to me. This guy was a treat. More excuses and the whole "you don't understand" condescending attitude. Even went so far as to say they were "just stickers" and implied I my expectations might be a little high. (Shouldn't "stickers" actually stick?) After a few back and forth moments he did agree to remove them, quite hastily and with great disregard for my vehicle, and sent me on my way. Perhaps if I wouldn't have questioned the installation cost and blindly let them overcharge me I could have avoided this treatment. They may, in my opinion, actually have taken the time to install them correctly instead of doing a quick and shoddy job of it just because they weren't going to make enough money. I won't be back and I would not recommend them. read more

My grandson is a first year student at Bowling Green State University. I gave him my 2015 Honda Fit before he left for school. Recently he was home and I noticed he was having problems with the start button, it sporadically would not start. I told him we need to get that fixed!!! I called my local Honda dealership in Tipp City and when I explained to the service writer what was going on he said there was a recall on the buttons. Upon further discussion he told me that the car was out of warranty (by 1000 miles) and there was nothing they could do. I explained to him that I had had that problem twice during my years of ownership and their dealership never could find the problem. Now there is a recall and they wouldn't stand behind it. That car had always had service done at the same dealership! I contacted Honda America and they have an open case on the car and have been very nice and helpful, but it is still ongoing. All I knew was I needed to get this car fixed because I didn't want my grandson stranded 1 1/2 hours away from home. So, I researched Honda in Bowling Green and found Thayer. I called and talked with the service manager and explained everything. He said he had four of those start buttons in stock and asked for my grandson to let him know when he had time away from his classes and he would look at the car and replace the start button. My grandson took the car to Thayer Honda Monday, November 8th, and in less than an hour he was out the door with a working start button (and gave relief to this grandmother)!!! After my grandson met Brad Sherman, Service Manager, he sent me a text saying "This is one cool dude!" At nineteen years of age he realized what a nice man Brad is. I have owned a Honda Prelude, a CRV, this Fit and in January I purchased a new Civic, plus my two daughters each have Honda vehicles. I'm new to the area and needed a new place to service my 2012 Civic. I'm so glad I chose Thayer Honda instead of an instant oil change place! I scheduled a same day appointment online and was in and out in a half hour. They showed me my air filter, made sure I got to use a coupon that I didn't even bring, and were very thorough in explaining what maintenance was needed and what could be done later. Set up a appointment with one salesmen then had to wait for him to drop us off on another salesmen. This guy had zero interest in anything we said. He simply just wanted to sale the car. He then tried to put us up against another possible buyer. He wouldn't budge a penny on the vehicle after taxes. He was very rude and pretty much told us that we could leave because they weren't coming down on the "best price around." Sorry but why would I pay almost the same price on a used car that I could pay for a new car?! We drove over a hundred miles to buy a 2015 fit from Josh, who treated us like family. Josh did an excellent job of explaining all of the car's features.
