Open only about 6 months ago, Thattu is the hot new restaurant on the block in the Avondale neighborhood. Seems like reservations are pretty tricky to get, but my friend and I had luck walking in and sitting at the bar just after 7 on a weekday. Service was really friendly throughout the entire time we were there! Everything you order on your phone and the course out what you order for you. My friend and I ordered the following: Drinks: Manga Inja - Fun and refreshing mango-y N/A cocktail. Banana Old Fashioned - My friend got this and seemed to really enjoy it. He's an old fashioned fiend so that was a good stamp of approval. Food: - Kappa Bonda: Yummy fried yucca balls. The onion tamarind cut through the yucca and was good. Shame it was only 3 pieces though. - Kerala Fried Chicken Bites: Super juicy dark pieces of meat with really great flavor. I do wish it was crispier, but I guess the description says "naked" fried chicken. The yogurt sauce served with it was also really nice. - Kadala Curry: Probably my favorite dish we got. Really creamy with the coconut gravy and the black chickpeas were nice. And vegetarian if you're into that! - Pork Chop Peralan: This one was a bit of a miss for me. The pork chop was reallyyyy salty. The collard greens actually helped balance it a bit with some bitterness, but the collard greens and fried yucca was pretty small relative to the pork chop that I can't imagine it'd be pleasant to eat as a stand alone. It helped a ton to have some rice on the side with our main orders to offset it, but overall a big letdown since the pork chop itself was nice and juicy. Overall, a solid spot. Probably not one I would go out of my way for anytime soon, but certainly not angry to try! I think there could be a couple adjustments to their food items, especially the saltiness of the pork chop since after reading some reviews it seems to be a theme. Otherwise, glad this place is here! read more

It was pretty good, but I had a little higher expectations. I like that the tip was included, but with 2 drinks, we spent $99 and I'm not really sure how. Ambience was nice, server was very nice, it wasn't too loud, all pluses (but should be baseline). Short ribs were the best thing we had Fried chicken bites were very good I think we had the beet puff and they were good Viplavam (gin drink) was very good Chorum Kariyum - Meal Combo was ok but curry could have used more flavor Something else I don't remember was just ok read more

So as a malayalee myself, was expecting a lot. Maybe should have gone in with more fine dining expectations but it's okay! Got the meen polichatthu - good but not my favorite one. Was super saucy rather than masala-y and fried fish. Sides were yummy. Beef and porotta was my least favorite - dry and not authentic. Kappa bonda was unique and yummy. Not sure if I would recommend it to others honestly. read more

3.4 stars TL;DR Amazing service, wonderful ordering system, casual clean ambiance, but just OK food and value. We love the vibe and really hope to come back and try some different dishes for lunch. The service at this spot was absolutely wonderful and everyone was super friendly and helpful, the food came out hot and very quick. Sadly, the few dishes and cocktails we had kind of fell flat for us. We highly appreciated ordering and paying thru the toast app and that the food prices already include gratuity. We hope all businesses move to this model. We had the kerala fried chicken bites, fried yuca balls and the Malabar chicken biriyani. To drink we had the Viplavam & Kadaloram. The best thing by far were the Yuca balls nice and airy with crispy exterior and starchy interior, flavored nice and savory. The Kerala chicken was nicely seasoned and we liked the combo with the pickled veg and contrast with the yoghurt. It was a good size portion as well but we expected a bit more of a crispy or crunch. Perhaps within a sandwich form it work better. We found the chicken biriyiani to have an interesting yet very mild flavor. There was a good amount of chicken but it was quite dry, we loved the lime pickle. The viplayam cocktail was very nice and sharp and tasted of warming spices. The Kadaloram cocktail kind of tasted like chicha morada and tamarind when it came together but wasn't really balanced and had a somewhat unpleasant aftertaste. read more

AMAZING meal at Thattu! Go for lunch to increase your chance of getting a table. My girlfriend & I split everything to try more. Got everything the owner recommended! Thattu - Tots, chicken bites, bean & chicken curries - Indian Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

We tried: 1. Roots Korma - Red beets, carrots & potatoes stewed in an aromatic cashew & coconut gravy w/ appam 2. Fish Fry - spicy pan fried fish, watermelon cucumber salad, fenugreek leaf chutney, curd rice 3. Kaapi - south Indian style coffee, chicory, scalded milk, sugar 4. Kerala fried chicken bites - spicy "naked" fried chicken, yogurt sauce 5. Chettinad Pepper Chicken curry - fiery boneless chicken, black pepper, tomato, coconut milk w/ appam 6. Pazhanjan - Banana old fashioned, Bulleit Bourbon, Crème be Banana, Mango, Angostura Bitters, Torched Plantain, Banana Leaf Curries were both delicious and must have with the soft appam. Fish fry had good portions. Cod was unbelievably soft but could use some salt which is strange because it looks so seasoned. The smaller size and texture of curd rice, I learned, is not for me. My palate very much prefers east Asian rice. This not-coffee-drinker liked the kaapi coffee. The bourbon in the pazhanjan just overpowered everything. Employees were very nice. They had extra Kerala chicken bites so they just gave a bowl to us which were tasty. I like the homely interior design. This is great Indian restaurant to try that's different from most others. read more

Loved this place from the moment we arrived. Ambience and charm of a neighborhood joint, but aspirations of something much bigger. There are a couple comfort dishes, but this is mainly about pushing boundaries - starting with the great cocktails and continuing with then out there appetizers. We went mostly with fish, which was consistently fresh and nicely spiced. read more

I was excited to finally snag a table at Thattu! If you're looking to eat dinner at a reasonable time on the weekends, this restaurant books ahead pretty far in advance. The interior is industrial and feels like a warehouse, similar to the overall aesthetic of the Avondale neighborhood. It is definitely a more casual spot to eat, as you order from QR codes on Toast. We ordered the kappa bonda (fried yucca balls), meen pollichathu (tilapia), and the Fri+Sat only short rib special. Everything was super warm, comforting, and spiced well. The portions were a bit on the smaller side. My favorite was the tilapia, which was super buttery. My only complaint is that the food was not as hot as I would have liked it to be, almost as if it had been sitting out for a while. To drink, we had the Sarbath, which was very refreshing. I'd love to come back here and try more of the dishes, especially the Kadala Curry! read more

This restaurant refuses tips and it's workers are happy and the service was exceptional. Go figure that out. Perhaps it's accurate and fair pricing? The food was very unique. It was like an Indian tapas restaurant with a region of Indian cuisine I have not experienced before. The food was much lighter than what I'm used to when going out for Indian food. Spice profiles were excellent. There was a much heavier seafood slant than is probably typical. Will come here again for sure. What an excellent dining experience. read more

One of my favorite travel spots in India is Kerala. So I was amped to check out a new Indian restaurant that pays an homage to this cuisine. My expectations were met with Thattu! Chef Pak captured the essence of true Southwest Coastal Indian cuisine. The apps: succulent fried chicken bites, beet puffs, eggplant theeyal . The cocktail: Sarbath; the quintessential Kerala refresher : Rangpur Lime Tanqueray Gin, Fino Sherry, and lime. The meal itself for Dinner was an order of The Malabar chicken biryani, The Chicken Ishtu ( my first choice ) , and this phenomenal fish in a banana leaf ( my favorite ). The portions were perfect for sharing. All that was missing was some cashew feni read more

Very excited to try this restaurant since my family is from Kerala and South Indian food has been getting lots of recognition lately! We went for lunch and was most impressed with the cocktails! Cocktails: 5/5 for Madras and Pazhanjan Banana old fashioned Egg curry w/appam: 4/5 good and extra creamy Fried chicken sandwich: 3/5 I wish this was spicier! Chettinad chicken: 3/5 I personally am used to a different chicken curry at home but still thought this was good Tots: 5/5 because you can't go wrong with chaat masala on top Overall liked the place, but hope they will introduce other dishes I grew up loving! And maybe increase the spice level :) read more

I watched a news segment on NBC about this restaurant and the food looked so amazing that I made a note that we needed to try it. We got that opportunity this past Sunday night. We feel pretty fortunate, because soon this place is going to be impossible to get into as the food is simply outstanding! My guess is that Thattu is going to become quite a popular destination. Thattu is located in this nice little area off of Belmont on Fletcher in the area where Metropolitan Brewery is. It was a nice quiet little street and it looks like the restaurant was housed in a former garage space. It had a nice modern, clean and open feel. We were greeted and seated by one of the owners, Vinod. His wife is the chef. You can order all the food through a QR code and you don't really need to give your order to a server, however we did utilize a server who recommended some great foods to us that we might not have otherwise chosen ourselves. One of the special things about this place is that there is no tipping! Everything is reflected in the price and it makes me feel like they're paying their employees well. We decided to share some appetizers and a few larger dishes with the guidance of our server. I would say that the menu selection is small but that allows them to focus their attention and make the dishes they do have super amazing. Our server gave us some great ideas of what to order and there wasn't anything that we ate that we didn't love. We literally licked the bowls clean. We started with an amazing nonalcoholic drink called the Malabar Ginger Cooler that was SO refreshing! For appetizers, we started with the Kappa Bonda, which was fried yucca balls, recommended by our server and their roasted eggplant appetizer with Pearl onions. They were both amazing. We doubled up on the Yucca because the portion sizes are small. For entrees, we shared the Kadala curry for my vegetarian husband and the Malabar chicken biryani. (The rest of us non-vegetarians were obsessed with the chicken biryani!) We got the Jeera rice and appam at the recommendation of the server. The appam was like the texture of injera but much better!!! The portion sizes are on the smaller side, but all four of us felt satisfied by the amount of food we ordered. We ended our meal with Payasam which was the most delicious rice pudding made with Indian spices and coconut milk. We thoroughly enjoyed this place, and we will definitely be regulars! Check it out before it becomes too popular and you can't make a reservation! read more

Overpriced terrible Kerala food! As a Malayali I was super excited to try the Kerala cuisine here. Very disappointed, this is one of the worst parottas I've ever had. Ghee roast and prawns curry was terrible too. The appam and Kerala fried chicken was decent. Service was good and ambience was okay. But we will not be returning, very unhappy with the food. read more

Thattu - Appam and ghee roast, parotta and beef - Indian Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

My husband and I went to Thattu for a dinner date and had an overall lovely experience. We started with kokum sharbat along with Thattu and Marz beers, all of which were delightfully refreshing. For appetizers, we ordered the kappa bonda and chili paneer puffs. The yucca balls were quite tasty, though the chili paneer puffs felt fairly ordinary. The highlights of the meal were the vegetable thoran, potato poriyal, and appams -- we absolutely loved them. The roots curry was flavorful and enjoyable, though not particularly memorable. We would love to try their vegetarian banana leaf dinner on a future visit. The service was exceptional, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. Overall, a solid 4/5 experience. read more

Let me start out with their tipping policy. That alone deserves 5 stars. The owner came up to us and said you pay using the app, and you don't have to tip because it's already priced into the food. THIS IS WONDERFUL!!! Why can't all restaurants do this? Service was great and there was no debate or stress about what to tip afterward. I LOVED IT! With regards to the food, I really enjoyed almost everything. The chicken breast dish was just so-so for me. It was just a little too bland. The menu isn't huge, which I appreciated actually, and it allowed me to try almost everything with one other person. My favorite dish was the pork chop and yucca. The space was really cute. And I like the area they are in. The food was reasonably priced. And they carried Asadi beer (an Indian Brewery that I had tasted before at Pilot Project). I did not try any of the deserts. Maybe next time because I'm definitely going back. read more

When people say Indian restaurant it usually doesn't mean this type of Indian restaurant. Most of the dishes usually are from the northern regions of India. Thattu on the other hand is a very rare find from the South. Moreover from Kerala itself. A state on the southern coast known for refreshing vegetable dishes, fish and varients of lentil based dosa. Dishes tend to be less cream forward like the popular butter chicken. The namesake Thattu is a homage to food truck origins of the restaurant. It refers to the very popular street food vendors in India. Accordingly when we went for lunch it was a non traditional experience as the hostess had explained. A casual vibe and feel. Everything ordered through a QR code, no tip and a self service station for plates, cutlery, water. It was a surprise at first but I did enjoy the ease of ordering, paying and the need for no tip. Just like Kerala - the dishes were flavorful yet not overwhelming or heavy. We enjoyed a variety of things including the delicious kotthu parotta which was a special. Also ordered the fish fry, kadala curry and chicken bites. Just tried one cocktail and it was fairly bland and expensive. All in all a really good, new and unique find that I am happy to see is having success. Looking forward to going back for the dinner experience. read more

In the last year, the New York Times has gone absolutely apeshit for Thattu. It appeared on both 25-best-in-Chicago and 50-"most exciting"-in-the-country lists. Some stratospheric praise right there. That and our general fondness of Indian food (meaning the rather cookie-cutter version you find in most Indian restaurants in the U.S.) and our always-increasing curiosity about regional varieties drew us in. Thattu serves a version of Kerala cuisine, which I gather is not that typical in the States and which I certainly knew nothing about going in. We liked the restaurant quite a bit, but let's face it: Those Times appraisals are a little over the top. This a tasty, fascinating, and pleasant dining experience, but we were actually a little disappointed (and surprised) that the flavors weren't a bit more robust in some of the dishes. The beet puff we started with was sort of emblematic of this: Pleasant puff pastry, but the beet flavors seem to have been concentrated in just one side of it; the other side was pretty blah. Kappa bonda--fried yucca balls--were terrific, on the other hand--perfect frying, and simple onion and tamarind-chutney garnish brought the flavor. (Addictive!). Kallumkaya, a pan-seared mussels dish, also had a nice balance of spice and heat, but the accompanying veggies didn't totally cohere. Kadala curry (black chickpeas) was very nice, but certainly not leaps-and-bounds better than some other curry veggie dishes I've had over the years. Was very excited about the Meen Pollichathu, a whitefish steamed in banana leaves, but the tomato basil sauce (delicious) unfortunately mostly evaporated during the cooking process. Not enough of it truly enjoy the accompanying turmeric lime rice. The fish itself was good, not great. The appam, a coconut and rice crepe that I'd never had before, is wonderful. Banana Old Fashioned was enjoyable but maybe a little too sweet. A lot of complaints here about the QR-code-based ordering system, but I thought it was fine. In contrast to what some other reviews say, we got plenty of attention of servers, and all were friendly and helpful. The front-of-the-house guy, the Kerala-native half of the couple that runs Thattu, was especially warm and welcoming. Disagree with the complaints about decor and atmosphere, too: comfortable and spacious seating, pleasant lighting and noise levels. read more

Slightly upscale Kerala spot by the Chicago River in Avondale with a cool industrial vibe: open brick, exposed wiring, and colorful artwork that blends Kerala themes with modern fusion. The space feels cozy and very photo-friendly, and there are some interesting background stories to read while you wait. A few downsides: the surrounding area felt a bit sketchy, parking was a hassle, and the small anteroom at the entrance is a legit trip hazard at night. Menu is focused (not overwhelming) and includes Kerala staples like aappam + kadala curry and meen pollichathu, plus a handful of fusion-named entrées. The cocktail and beverage list is extensive and definitely adds to the overall appeal. Taste-wise, several dishes were close to Kerala flavors, but some fusion choices didn't land for me. The potato poriyal had potato skins (not typical), and while the aappam tasted good, it was too thick on the edges and oddly folded like a dosa-pretty disappointing. Service was the biggest issue: slow and inconsistent, and some dishes came out barely warm instead of piping hot. The staff was polite, but the hospitality felt more rehearsed than genuinely warm. Tip: If you go at night, be extra careful at the entrance and plan parking ahead. read more

Went here to celebrate a friend's birthday for a weekday dinner. We had a reservation but surprisingly for a monday evening the restaurant was absolutely full. I like how the order is placed online and manageable and have freedom to open and close the tab. Also this place is tip free. Inspite of that the servers were so warm and friendly. The place is very clean and neat and very well maintained. There was a sense of community feeling when i went here. For drinks we ordered lime tea and coffee . Both were amazing. Appetizer we got fried chicken. There was hardly any salt but was well made Mains got the appam and chicken ghee roast and malabar biriyani. Chicken ghee roast and appam we out of the world and must try. Biriyani has authentic kerala style and subtle flavors. Desserts got the ada payasam and rice cake. Both were amazing. They also have masala biscuits which is a relished savory biscuit in kerala and i was shocked to find them here. Inspite of closing the restaurant they didn't force us to leave and treated us well. I am from south india and can vouch for kerala flavors and the quality of food is outstanding. I hope they maintain the same. This is probably top indian restaurant in my list maintaining presentation and quality. Menu could be a little more elaborated and limited but all dishes are good. read more

Thattu brings a much needed fresh, unique culinary experience to what is fast becoming one of the hottest blocks in the north side. Their version of South Indian food is approachable and intriguing, resulting in a very good meal with the potential for greatness. Let's start with the good-to-great. The Pork Chop Peralan was a great dish, a bone-in chop cooked perfectly, topped with a tangy gravy and served on a bed of coconut braised collard greens, which were easily the best thing we ate the entire meal. Incredibly complex flavor, perfectly tender, I would make a meal on the greens alone. The yucca cake lacked flavor, though was also cooked very well, a nice texture on the outside, fluffy within. I cannot claim to be an expert on South Indian food, so some of my criticisms may need to be taken with a grain of salt. But, pun intended, a dash of salt would elevate just about everything I had over the course of the evening. The pork chop would have been perfect with a little salt, and the yucca cake was practically begging for it. I would say the same for the Koppa Bonda and the Eggplant Theeyal, both cooked to perfection, but severely lacking in overall flavor. The best part of both dishes were the slightly caramelized onions. The Kadala Curry was another well-made dish, some lovely flavors and textures throughout. Again, just looking for something to bring it all together. There's a lot to like here. The cook is perfect on everything. And some of these sauces (roasted coconut curry, tangy peralan, etc) are to die for. But, you can't just rely on a great sauce, you need to season every ingredient. Especially for an Indian restaurant, the lack of seasoning on main ingredients (pork chop, eggplant, etc) was surprising. This was only their second weekend offering dinner service, so some bumps in the road are to be expected. They are already executing at a high level, so I am sure once things get dialed in a bit, a review like this will hopefully become an easy five stars. They are clearly still working on their bar program, and I wasn't quite sure what they were going for ambiance-wise (love the decor and murals, not so sure about the choice of music - no need to cater to the River North crowd for this kind of spot), but we enjoyed what we had, loved some of we tried, and know that they can achieve greatness with just a few small tweaks. Looking forward to seeing how they evolve! (One last note: Servers mostly serve as runners and bussers, as everything is done via QR code. While I'm sure they would be able to speak on any dish should one have a question, this left for a very impersonal experience that left us feeling a bit disconnected. Maybe we're old school, but especially for dishes that most diners would love to hear more about, as well as at a place in its infancy, that personal touch would go a long way). read more

I have had my share of kerala dishes and Thattu is a decent intro but there are plenty more awesome dishes from the state. Menu is a mix of authentic and elevated dishes from Kerala cuisine. Kadala curry with appam, meen polichatthu and the mushrooms were good. Brinjal(eggplant) dish was meh - the sauce was good but the brinjal wasn't great. Biryani was forgettable. We tried a few of the cocktails and mocktails which felt a tad too diluted. Service was friendly. The menu is on the QR code and you pay through there as well. Parking isn't terrible but still challenging when you are in a new area - there is free parking on the street and side street. read more

I enjoyed a good reunion dinner at Thattu. I've been hearing about this place for a while now. So, one thing is they pre-charged me $60 ($10 per person) for the reservation and then I had to spend that money on my card in order to "use" that up. It made splitting the bill just a little bit tougher. Service is also unique in the way you have to order via an app. On the one hand it's convenient, but if you're not familiar with the food, it kind of defeats the purpose, because you have to talk to the staff anyway and then order on the app. It's a good idea, maybe. The staff was super nice and despite the bigger group, they don't take tips. The higher prices cover that and they said the waiters get paid full wages. I like that model. The food itself was ok. Appetizers were decent. Vegetarian curries were ok. I liked the apam. Beverages were also fine. The place is pretty casual and chill. read more

We were referred to Thattu by an acquaintance and were curious about the Kerala cuisine. We found the food, especially the mussels dish, and cocktails to be very good, even outstanding. But the tendentious, overlong infodump upon seating, and clumsy, baffling ordering and payment process requiring QR codes and cell phones, not so much. We felt sorry for our server as she tried to explain it all to us, helping us gamely attempt it on our devices, and felt her relief when we finally asked to order traditionally using menus. Also, their "tipless" philosophy, explained upon checking out, and the suggestion to "tip if you want to" felt contradictory. Go for the adventure, I guess, but don't be thirsty when you arrive! read more

Amazing Malayali food. I had the Choru Kariyum. It took me back to my childhood but had an elevated flare. They also have amazing and unique beers that seem to have been brewed with typical indian ingredients! My wife loved the appam and chicken ghee roast. Disclaimer for fellow malayalis, the appam is not the crispy kind, which is ok. My son tried the yogurt rice snack (I forget the name I'm sorry) and he loved it! He has only really just started eating solids so I am glad he got a taste of Kerala. When we were leaving we asked about tipping since you pay and order via your phone. There was no tip option. I've been wanting to try Thattu's sit-down location for a while, since I first had it when it was doing a takeout pop-up in 2020 in a local Bridgeport restaurant. My friend and I thought the food was really good and we had a lovely time. I liked the plantains for dessert - it wasn't what I was expecting / how I usually eat plantains, but it was delicious. My chicken & cocktail weren't bad but to put them in the upper echelon of best things I've had is a stretch. The banana old fashioned had good balance but just not a ton of banana flavor. What an absolute treat. This is probably the best value in the city right now. Great atmosphere with attentive staff. No tipping, which can sometimes be irksome when it's done as a large automatic surcharge. Not at Thattu. Here, everything is built into the price of the dish. The food is simply next level when it comes to flavor and quality. The restaurant is all Southern Indian style, meaning that it's coconut-based rather than dairy-based. Most Indian food in America is Northern Indian, so you will probably notice different flavors than you're used to. Additionally, the chef makes everything home-style, meaning that it's all properly marinated for days. The time and love they put into the food comes through in spades. The richness of the spice is fantastic while never being overpowering. The appam bread is a real treat. Also, my wife had one of the non-alcoholic cocktails. It was large and delicious! This is place is definitely one of the best in Chicago. Book and then book again because you'l want to try more on the menu. read more

Been wanting to try this Southern Indian spot for a while, and it didn't disappoint! Loved almost everything we ordered, and the flavors were even better than we expected! The restaurant is clean and cozy, and our server was super friendly and knowledgeable, explaining all the dishes really well. What We Tried: Kappa Banda (3/5): Cute fried yucca balls, but not much flavor. Mushroom Mezhukkupuratti (5/5): This was amazing--full of flavor with tons of spices. Kerala Fried Chicken Bites (5/5): Crispy outside, tender inside, and perfectly spiced. Definitely ordering this again! Short Rib & Porottas (4/5): Only available on Friday and Saturday, this was tender and really comforting. Meen Pollichathu (4/5): The fish was buttery with just the right amount of spice. Most of their dishes are "gluten-free", which was a big plus for us! We can't wait to go back and try more of their unique, flavorful Southern Indian dishes. Had an early V-day dinner this past Monday, but my wife and I had to take advantage of two things - having a babysitter and living down the street from one of the best new spots in the country that also happens to be open Mondays. Have to say I was surprised to find an amazing and gigantic bone in pork chop on the menu of an Indian place, but I guess similarly you wouldn't find any pork at a southern Philippines restaurant. Thattu specializes in Kerala cuisine (south India) which is just starting to come up in the states. My partner loved the Mushroom Mezhukkupuratti which tasted like it had Chinese influence thanks to the chili oil, while I found the Chettinad Pepper Chicken reminiscent of chicken adobo when people put coconut milk in it, but a lot more pepper heavy and spicier. You may have heard of their unique service style, where you order everything yourself off a QR code and there is no tipping as everything's factored in to the price. I can see that turning some people off, but it worked perfectly for us and service was still great even though we didn't directly order with a server. Overall a great place especially for being a bus ride away. read more

Food was ok. There was a lot of warmth and heat in the dishes and not so much what I would consider flavor. The Kerala fried chicken bites were pretty good and definitely the standout. The kappa bonda fried yucca balls were OK--not a lot of flavor but the onion tamarind on top helped. Kadala curry and the chettinad pepper chicken were both decent, but again, warm spices over flavor here too. Also be aware it feels more "fast casual" since they don't really have a traditional wait staff. You don't really talk with a server ever. All food and drink is ordered through a QR code online and when you are done you pay the bill online and just leave the restaurant. For a place with unique cuisine for the area and is slightly more upscale, I would prefer sitting down and actually having a waiter to interact with more. But others may not mind. It's too "in and out" for me. read more

South Indian rating here! Drinks- drinks were amazing with a mix of Indian ingredients. Have to say the old fashion named pazhanjan (10/10) here is my top five I ever had. Margarita was amazingly done too. Tried couple of local Indian beers and the stout was really good. Pork chop- meat was a bit dry but really flavorful 8/10 (Indian rating 6/10, not your regular Kerala spices) Meen polichathu Fish tilapia - really flavorful and it was doneexactly like a Kerala fish. 10/10 (Indian rating - 8/10, can ask for more spices, spicy) Yuca balls appetizer- really good yuca appetizer. Pretty much kappa with chamandi on top (10/10) Best part- no service charges or tipping. Dessert- banana pazham pori 9/10 (Indian rating 6/10 because of how expensive it is) Ambiance- minimalist. You order everything through phone. Get reservations early or wait for a bar seat opening. This place definitely went above and beyond to cater to non Indians and curated their dishes to be Americanized. This is the one and only Kerala South Indian restaurant I know where non Indians dine. Had dinner here with friends last night and the food was excellent! Keep in mind that this is not a fine dining restaurant so set your expectations accordingly. Staff is knowledgeable of the menu. Ordering is done via a app and food comes out pretty fast. DrinK/cocktail menu is ok. We ordered everything in the menu and everything was good but a few items stood up. The lentil curry, fish in banana leaves and the mussels are worth going back for. Dessert menu is slim and just so-so. Must try! read more

I have a super low spice tolerance but was able to eat everything here! Everything was super flavorful and spiced without being spicy. The fried chicken had a super unique breading and was a really great texture, juicy on the inside. The fish fry was ok, a bit bland. The curd rice was really great to balance everything out. The appams were an amazing texture. The coffee was pretty authentic (said my Indian friends) needed a bit of sugar but once we added it it was great. The space is super bright and airy and well lit with lots of colorful wall paintings. They also run on a toast tab which makes it super easy to order and they bring you the food SO FAST. We were in and out in 40 minutes and we ate pretty leisurely. read more
