It looked like a cool spot for my boyfriend and I to grab dinner before our drive home, but instead we spent 45min waiting (after we ordered) listening to dogs whine. It's not like our order was complicated by any means (just a bruschetta appetizer) so after 45min of waiting and not being checked on by the waitress we decided to get up and pay to leave. When we asked to pay our bill and cancel the plate the waitress was unnecessarily rude and basically threw my debit card at me after paying. Ma'am it's not coming out of your check (I know you'll probably read this) you didn't need to take it that personal. Y'all might have had big tables to serve but as a restaurant you need to learn how to prioritize meals vs appetizers because I couldn't imagine the wait if we had ordered something they actually had to cook. As far as the dogs, I'm a dog lover but after 30min of a single dog whining and jumping on the table means the pup isn't trained and shouldn't be there. Would never revisit sadly. read more

The beer was great but the food service was some of the worst I've ever experienced. We waited for over an hour for dinner. Once it arrived fries were cold and food was mediocre. First the good. The food was ok. The long list of bad starts with the service. Our waiter was so overwhelmed with a handful of tables, we didnt see him very much. When we asked for beers, it took about ten minutes to get them. And water took even longer. Our food, burgers and fries took about 45 minutes to get. Finally, the beer, with the exception of the Roadrash IPA, was unremarkable at best. Every beer had the same overroasted, smoky taste. Even the blonde beers. I'm a fan of That Brewery. My husband's parents have a cabin up in Pine, and every time we go up, we always eat here. The food is pretty good. I really like their Cowboy Burger, and their beers are delicious! I LOVE the Strawberry Blonde that they have going on there! It's refreshing after a day of driving/hiking/playing in the snow. I thought it was going to be super fruity and gross, but it isn't, I promise. There is a hint of fruit, but it isn't overwhelming. My husband this last time had their blackened salmon pizza, which was SO good! Very flavorful, and the salmon was actually cooked really nicely. Now, the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because the service can be spotty. We were in this past Sunday night, and I kid you not, we sat there for 17 minutes before anyone even so much as made eye contact. One of the two other tables even leaned over and ask if we had been helped. I know it 17 minutes because I set a timer. Not that I do that when I sit down regularly, but we had already been sitting for long enough that I thought it would be interesting to start a timer and see how long it would go. We tried to flag people down! We really did! And finally, a server who was chewing gum asked us if we had been helped, and said he would send our server right over. She came five minutes later. Our drinks took an amazingly long time to get out to us, as did our food. I was the only one that ordered a beer. The husband got an iced tea and our friend got a soda. Our drink refills were few and far between, and at the end our server only thanked us for our patience. No apology for making us wait nearly 20 minutes to have our drink order taken, nothing. We were underwhelmed with the hospitality. So, I will continue to return. Not only because this is one of the only places to eat up here, but because the food and beer is truly worth returning for. We were so excited to try this place! We waited 15 minutes at the bar before being served or even glanced at. The bartender rolled her eyes when we asked for more than one menu. We placed our order and then forgot to add one beer so we told the bartender, and she said " I am not your server" The food was amazing. What a fantastic place, just a quick drive north of Payson. The best part of this place is the place. There's just something immediately comfortable, and comforting, about it -- warm, friendly, nestled in the pines, and they brew a respectable selection of their own beers. I sat at the bar and felt at home; bartender was very friendly. Patios look great; I understand the place is dog-friendly and kid-friendly. I've had their Arizona Trail Ale (IPA) in Phoenix and liked it, so figured I'd give the place a try when I was up that way. Lunch was decent: chicken mushroom-swiss burger was somewhat dry, but the pretzel bun (trendy, but so what?) made up for it; wedge fries were perfectly done. The beers were the real treat, however. The sampler of 6, served in sort-of a muffin tray for $6, is well worth it. The best to me was the Monsoon Stout - roasted malts with some nice coffee bitterness underneath; I'd get a pint of that. I also had the Strawberry Blonde (quite popular; I've seen it down in Phoenix as well; not my style but quite refreshing), Amber (just ok, though I understand it's popular), Road Rash IPA (interesting and good but not great, I got a lot of pine from it; IPA is my favorite style), Chai Stout (good though a little thin; I didn't get much Chai); and the new Knotty Nut Brown (moderate brown ale flavor with some zing). Visiting here made me want to get a cabin with the family, bring the dogs, and hang out on the patio with their Juniper Black IPA. read more

My husband and I went here twice while we were camping up in Pine. Friday night it was super busy, but our server was fantastic. Can't say the same about the food. I had a salad and it was meh. My husband had the pepperoni pizza and it was burnt, and topped with way too much cheese. Such a waste. The strawberry blonde beer was delicious though. Came again on Sunday since he had really wanted to try the Green Chile Philly, and was just disappointed. Beer, however, was great. Worst dining experience of 2014. Visited on Wed 6/18 for the steak night special. My first 3 beer choices were out of stock, so I went with the waitress's recommendation. She brought it and asked what I thought. It was warm and flat. She said that is how the owner wants them to serve it. When my wife's salad arrived, the lettuce was wilted and some actually rotted as if it had been frozen. When she showed the waitress, she said "Oh, sorry, let me take that away for you". No new salad was brought. After a fairly long wait, our steaks arrived. We had both ordered medium rare, but these were both nearly raw. After a great deal of sawing, I was able to cut off a piece. It was stone cold. The twice baked potato was also just as cold. Eventually, the waitress returned and realized something was wrong because we had both eaten only one bite. We had her lift the plates which were cold to the touch. She mumbled something to the effect that she wished she could do something about it. We asked for 2 large boxes, loaded the entire meals into them and brought them home to be cooked properly. To her credit, the waitress apologized and knocked $4.00 off of our $56.00 bill. What a cool place in small town USA... Great customer service !!! Great food !!! Exceptional beer !!! Try the Strawberry Blonde, really good. Also try the Margarita Pizza and Chicken Sandwich. The biggest thing I liked about this place was that they were very pet friendly. The server made sure that our dog always had water and made sure he was comfortable. Couldn't imagine having lunch with my wife in a more beautiful place. Will definitely be back and will definitely tell as many people as possible about it. read more

Stumbled upon That Brewery en route to Strawberry. The brewery has a great patio and it's very dog friendly. The IPA was great and they have neighboring traps from Flagstaff etc also. My fiancé had wings he liked them and we shared a appetizer of tots. The first set of tops had bacon (even though I didn't ask for it) and the second version didn't have all the items we initially asked for...bummer. This was such a great experience! I had a DP, and my husband ordered The Amber. The Amber was so rich, dark and tastie!! ...and Yes....I tried his beer! The food was amazing. I got the Portabello burger, and my Husband ordered the Elk burger. He gave me one side of his bun, and I gave him one end of my Portabella Mushroom (used as a bun. One mushroom cap on each side). Everything about this place was excellent. It was SO good, we ordered peach cobbler for dessert and split it! Best peach cobbler in AZ, if you ask me! We went up to Pine and Strawberry yesterday on a day trip with our two kids. Suffice to say, I am still upset that we had to leave! The beer is spot-on and so is the food. Having an opportunity to sit outdoors and enjoy the scenery was complimentary to the experience. We are already planning a trip back. Try the pretzel sticks with cheese sauce with the 6 samples for $6. You will be happy to sit on the patio and just enjoy LIFE. read more

Really disappointed! Went there couple times since last year and it was always "good". So during this last trip to Pine I decided to bring new friends to this place. We were 8 people, they told us 40min wait so we went on the patio (bar side ) wait for our table and have a beer. An hour after, they call us , place us in an empty room. We ordered there famous Elk burger ($14) our waitress ask us if we wanted some mayo, we all said yes. 30 min later the food arrived and no sauce in all the burgers and no mayo anywhere. We asked two times for mayo and she brought one little scoop of mayo each time. The meat was way over cooked, really dry and didn't worth $14. I think it's will be the last time or at least for eat I will go there. read more

Haven't been here in a while but decided to take my Dad for the Friday night fish fry. My husband is gf so we were super stoked by the new menu with a ton of gf options. My Dad ordered the fried cod and my husband and I the baked cod. 2 of us substituted the chili for what we were told would be a couple dollar up charge. It was amazing. My Dad loved the fried fish but the baked cod was incredibly dry. Too dry even to eat. With all the other options on the menu, we were disappointed by our choice in the fish, but lesson learned. When we received our bill, we noticed an up charge for the chili of $2.50 each PLUS 80 cents each for the chopped onions on each cup. Really? An entire onion doesn't cost 80 cents and it wasn't even grilled- just chopped. And when were offered the onions, we weren't told they weren't included. The positive is that Lisa, our waitress was great. Really sweet and friendly. She even brought us some beer and cider samples to try. And like I said, the chili and the fried fish were both very good. No doubt we will be back as Pine is our home in the mountains, but we will be more picky in what we order and make sure to ask about the up charges before agreeing to add ons or substitutions. I'm hoping our next experience will trump this one and I can update this review. read more

I've tasted brews from THAT Brewery at several festivals and have always been impressed. We decided to make the stop on our way up to camping at Rock Springs Campground. I am normally not a fan of the fruit infused beers but their Strawberry Blonde is excellent for enjoying on a warm sunny day. Everyone in our group of 4 enjoyed what they ordered. I would normally order a burger at a place like this but decided upon the prosciutto grilled cheese. Let's just say I was glad I stepped outside of the box; the grilled cheese sandwich was basic but ever so satisfying with savory flavor of prosciutto. My girlfriend ordered the grilled Caesar salad and the few bites I was able to sneak from her were very satisfying. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable of the menu & beers, plus the food arrived in a timely manner. We will definitely stop by THAT Brewery the next time we pass through. Dining al fresco in the cool mountain air of Pine is quite the easy call to make. How can one not enjoy this place?! read more

We never got it but our bill said we did. It's silly, but it's basic. If you offer us something, and it's additional charge, inform us. It wasn't like we asked for it ,it was offered to us. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to get some food after a trip to Tonto Natural Bridge. Sat at the bar and waited 5 minutes just for someone to ask if we wanted a menu. We finally ordered our food and it took about 40 mins for a Prime Rib sandwich and a Blackbean Burger. The burger immediately fell apart and the prime Rib left much to be desired. The service was horrible but everyone that came in wanting to try there beer was immediately helped and constantly taken care of. Definitely won't be visiting here again. read more

The only negative was the wait time, it was a little over 30 min.
