This place was ok. It was actually pretty cold in the restaurant. They did have the fireplace on and we had a table next to it, but if you weren't right next to the fireplace then you still felt like wearing your coat indoors, which isn't really what you want when you're eating out. My friend ordered the egg rolls and they were cold when they came out. The waitress was very apologetic and had another order come out, which my friend said was PIPING hot. At least it wasn't cold again. I don't think the heat levels are that accurate. I ordered the medium on the basil fried rice and it really tasted like medium - felt like no heat in the dish. Maybe because it felt like the heat wasn't up that high and the dishes were waiting a little bit before being brought out, they were just kind of room temp. I love thai food and have been wanting to check out this place for a few weeks. Finally went on Sunday night and really enjoyed it. The food was flavorful and filing. I got the red curry with chicken and my boyfriend had pork pad thai. We split an order of crab ragoons which I assume were made fresh in house. The server was very sweet and explained anything on the menu we weren't sure about. I can definitely see myself ordering take out from here on my way home regularly. This was the worst Asian food experience I've ever had. I ordered the asparagus delight consisting of shrimp, calamari & scallops. The calamari was rubber, the scallops tasted past it's prime, the shrimp had shell on which doesn't work for this sauce dish. The crab Rangoon was also fishy. It's obvious the seafood isn't fresh. I advised the restaurant of the past prime seafood and they did nothing. Very disappointing. I will mention the veggies were delicious as were the spring rolls. That's it. read more

The food is really great. I certainly recommend the Pad Thai. The "hot" spice level is pretty bearable. And for me, at least, one lunch plate is good for two meals. That's pretty good at only $8.99 an entree currently. But if you're trying to go for lunch and you have an hour, you can expect to be late back to work. Located in the old Cropichon et Bidibule space, this is welcome addition to the area. Completely re-done inside, it has a warm, sort-of-Asian feeling and a great menu. I had the Thai Fried Rice, $11.99, minus the egg with tofu as my protein. It was excellent and a generous serving. I like that there are several options that include tofu. My friend had the Crab Rangoon $6.99, and the Basil Duck, $15.99, and liked them both. We sat at the bar and had good service. Not surprisingly, there was a steady flow of take-out orders. When I asked the server if they carried a certain brand of vodka, he looked at me and said "I don't drink". I then pointed out that he should at least have an idea since he worked there, he walked away without saying anything and eventually sent the bartender over. Change your hours to 8:30pm on Sundays. Tried calling at 8:34pm, phone didn't ring, no busy signal, just a message from their service provider saying the line was inactive. Drove there, arrived and waited at the host stand. Greeted after a minute or so. Asked to place a carry out order, was told that the kitchen closes at 8:45pm. Checked my phone, it was 8:48pm. The posted hours are until 9:00pm. This is at least the fifth time I've called 20 min or so before they close and was told they were no longer taking orders. I don't get it. Just change your hours. Update: Just called Hong Kong on Illinois St, food is on its way and they're pleasant as shit. Thanks Hong Kong for being a fucking G. Update: Also, last time I picked up food, the rice was missing from my Pad Kra Prow. (Forgot to include that in the original.) I am so disappointed that I have to leave this review because the food and service has always been amazing when I carry-out from here ! Last night I decided to dine-in with a good friend of mines. I had been bragging to her about how excellent the food was. Everything went well until received our bills and our gratuity was already included. (It was just two of us) I was confused as to why is was added so I asked the waitress and she responded with, "I automatically put it on there because people do not how to tip." I told her I knew how to tip and she apologize and reprinted with the tip amounts listed at the bottom of the receipt and then proceeded to circle the tip amount !!! At this point I asked for the manager and come to find out, she was the manager !! I began to tell her how that was very inappropriate it and she kept cutting me off and then became loud and said "Americans do not how to tip!" I argued back tip is based off customer service not bullying into making me pay you amount that you want ! I have worked in the restaurant business so I over tip every time! I will never go back here and definitely will be telling others not to come due to lack of customer service, respect, and ignorant offensive manager! They have pretty decent Thai food - we were pleasantly surprised because we tried another Thai restaurant when we first moved to Indianapolis (high rating) but was disappointed how bland it was. We ordered drunken noodle and pad Thai, and both were flavorful and tasty and we were satisfied. I think price is sometimes moderately high (I am from the East coast with a lot of competition with price) but reasonable. This is NOT good Thai food. I got the crab ragoons to start & they were just okay. Just not super flavorful. I also got the ginger pork, and it was disgusting. It had no flavor at all, and the food came out luke warm. The server was very nice and offered me to order something else, so I went with something that can't get messed up... crab fried rice. The food was good - you can specify the spiciness level and our specification of "mild" was followed. The portions were adequate (for dinner, which is when we were there). The service was prompt but smile-less. There were many staff members, relative to the number of customers, but they seemed pre-occupied in their own discussions and did not have even a show of welcome in their interactions with the guests. Another plus was that the location of the restaurant is in a hip and vibrant area. This does mean however that you have to look sharp for finding parking. read more

Was craving boba tea as usual, since most Thai restaurants cater to my cravings I was a little disappointed to find they didn't... I ordered a regular thai tea and an order of crab rangoon. The tea was pretty much 15 oz of ice with a splash of tea. When I asked for a bit more tea with a little less ice the woman seemed as if I insulted her unborn child. I'm sorry I wasn't in the neighborhood for a $3.50 cup of ice... The crab rangoon was great if you're into a lot of cream cheese and not much more in the way of filling. I met some friends for a girls dinner this week at Thaitanium. We arrived on a rainy evening, and were greeted immediately by friendly staff behind the bar. The restaurant wasn't too terribly busy, and we were seated quickly. Our server was friendly and patient, as we continued to chat without ordering for some time. We ordered the crab rangoon, and shrimp salad rolls. The crab rangoon are house made daily, and they are not to be missed. Typically at most restaurants these are deep fried with a tiny taste of fake crab meat (if any). These are SO MUCH BETTER. The salad rolls came with both the basic sweet and sour sauce and rich peanut sauce. Both were great with the fresh rolls. The server suggested the drunken noodles over the pad thai, and one of us obliged. The drunken noodles were excellent, I had green curry which was great, and our last guest had the thai fried rice and said it was quite good. The service was great, and the portions were generous. The lunch option for $8.95 seems like a good deal. Food portions and flavor were good. I have heard the service was not the best, but takeout was fast and convenient. Food was just ok, service was meh. I had expected a lot better based on previous reviews. I think the best thing I can say is that the portions were large and everything seemed clean. Three of us shared crab rangoon, pad Thai with shrimp, and mango curry with chicken. The crab rangoon was overrated - undercooked, with far too little crab and far too much cream cheese (and "too much cheese" is something that has never come out of my mouth before). The curry and pad Thai were not bad, with very fresh veggies, but not much more to say than that. The service was lackluster - slow, lacking personality, and just kind of oblivious. I'm not sure if our server was a hostess or kitchen staff that they had to press into serving, but given that we were the only table, it could've been significantly better. All in all, nothing that completely turned me off, but not sure I'll go back. read more

Tried this place for the first time last week with a friend. I know this place is new and they still have some fine tuning to do. I would go back, but I just think this place if good, not great. The atmosphere is wonderful, but I have to say the chairs are very uncomfortable. I ordered the green curry for lunch and the potatoes were not cooked all the way through. I also ordered the chicken satay as an appetizer and the chicken was very dry. Our server was not very good about checking on us and the service seemed very scattered overall. This place is worth a visit for lunch, but I think I will let them work out some of their shortfalls before I go back. read more
