My co-workers brought me to this location many years ago when I had first moved into the area and this restaurant has become one of my favorite Thai restaurants since then. While I do believe that the quality has gone somewhat down in the recent years, I still think it offers good food at decent prices. The level of spice also varies - most likely due to the cook that day? I consistently ask for spicy and the level has ranged from mildly bland to barely a hint of spice. I do tend to like things on the spicier side, but that is one of the reasons I enjoy Thai food - when done right. I do still enjoy the papaya salad, the green beans with beef and some of their noodle dishes. The thai tea is always delicious and often a nice treat after hiking in the morning and stopping by for lunch. While I don't come to this location quite as often as I used to pre-pandemic, I still stop by when I'm in the area with friends. Service is usually quick and it's a relaxing atmosphere inside. The flavor of the Tom Yum was excellent as well as the green curry, both great dishes. The calamari we ordered was so bad that it was inedible. Spongy cardboard fried in batter, we sent it back immediately and they honored this request which was nice. It was one of the worst dishes I've had in a long time, so that dish brought the score from a 4 down to 3.. overall - stick to the main dishes here, don't go trying random side dishes because you might regret it like we did read more

Delicious Thai food and great portions. We went here for dinner since we were nearby in Downtown Los Gatos. Lots of free street parking (2 hour limit until 6pm). They have an extensive menu but we stuck with the Thai classics because why not. Each of our meals costs $15 for entree for the chicken protein which is very reasonable in today's economy, and the downtown Los Gatos location. Portions were great as I devoured my pad Thai and was really full afterwards. Service was great as they checked in with us. The experience was very similar to their other Willow Glen location, so not much difference there. We were able to walk in and get seated immediately so glad we did not have to wait. read more

I was visiting from Ohio and my sister ordered a large carryout for the family. I had the garlic pepper chicken that was flavorful and juicy. The salad was fresh and the rice was fluffy. Thai Spice is a smaller restaurant with fair decor and dim lighting. The food was good, but the service was hard to excuse. There weren't many customers on the weeknight apart from 3 tables, but the waitress seemed to purposefully leave us waiting at the door despite being a party of 2. After we were sat, it took 15 minutes to begin ordering or even get water. Meanwhile, the waitress liberally topped off other tables and serviced them multiple times. 30 minutes before closing, a staff member informed the only other table in the restaurant apart from ours that they would be closing the kitchen, and that it would be the last call for any desserts. He took the time to explain dessert favorites but didn't so much as glance toward my table's direction despite the restaurant being empty at that point. Stopped by for a work lunch and they were able to accommodate a large party (with reservation). There's no parking lot though, so you'll have to park on the street nearby and walk over. Inside the restaurant is fairly small. We each ordered an entree, plus some chicken skewers and calamari to share. Chicken skewers were meh, chicken was kind of dry. Someone ordered a tom yum soup which was actually a large portion and great for sharing. The pad see ew was decent though nothing too special, not super flavorful, but a very large portion size. There's plenty of lunch specials that are a great value, but none of the dishes stood out to me. Thai Spice is a small casual restaurant with a large menu of the usual Thai (and a few Chinese) dishes. My wife and I live nearby and have gone there occasionally over the years for dine-in and take-out meals. The food has usually been ok but the table service has been erratic. Prices have always been reasonable (at least by Los Gatos standards) given the portion sizes. In our opinion, it's an average neighborhood place but we wouldn't go out of our way to dine there. Our latest meal was a takeout order of BBQ chicken ($13.95) with jasmine rice ($2.50) and a side of 3 veggie egg rolls ($9.95). The boneless, skinless chicken pieces were marinated in a very mild sauce and then grilled. The chicken was tender but the sauce was a bit too sticky-sweet. We both liked the egg rolls, which were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside. One meal was plenty of food for both of us. The place was empty and tables in the main dining room hadn't been set when I picked up my order at 6pm on a Friday, which is unusual for a downtown Los Gatos restaurant. There is no outdoor seating. It was reassuring to see that the staff wore latex gloves and masks. But we were concerned when we noticed afterwards that the restaurant was rated poorly in its most recent health department inspection (March 8, 2022). A total of seven health code violations were recorded including unclean equipment and utensils, inadequate knowledge of food management, and unapproved thawing of frozen food. Yuck! I wish we checked before ordering because I'm sure we would've avoided the place based on that score. (If you're interested, there's a handy link to health department reports in the Yelp reviews for many restaurants.) My rating of average should probably be lower after reading the health department report, but their previous reports have been good so this one may just be an anomaly. read more

This location has been here for more than thirty years and I have been coming here for almost thirty. Yes, I know I completely aged myself in this review! The HGTV review: The only things I dislike are the new seating arrangement, lighting, and paint on the walls. The wall should be knocked down to combine both seating areas and make it more open. As it is right now, it leaves the main room too crowded and difficult to pass through. I liked the previous way how it was decorated and well-lit. It was more formal and elegant, but not stuffy. The walls were a light color. Food: Always a 10/10. I come here when I want to eat more traditional style Thai cuisine. The servers are mindful to ask questions about how to calibrate the heat by asking about the level of spiciness you prefer. When it's hot, it's really hot! About 15 years ago, some new server didn't and I ended up spitting out my too hot papaya salad! The food was delicious but the level of the spiciness was torturous for me! I love their panang curry with pork, different kinds of rice, and chicken with bell peppers, basil, and cashews, Tom kha soup, and desserts. Our consistent go to Thai place in Los Gatos, more affordable and high quality especially compared to the snazzier Thai places in town. Favorites include the angel wings, which are lightly fried chicken wings stuffed with a fantastic mix of meat and bean noodles with a sweet dipping sauce; the coconut tom kah soup, which comes with lots of chicken, baby corn and carrots in a rich broth which can be medium or very spicy as you wish; the pad Thai, which is perfectly seasoned unlike many places which make it too bland or too sweet, and has plenty of (choice of protein). The decor is charming and quiet, with many Thai artifacts and furnishings. Well located on the main Los Gatos street so you can drop in after shopping or running errands. This used to be my all-time favorite Thai restaurant, but the dishes have changed a lot. I always get pad thai and mussaman curry. The pad thai now seems more like broken up noodles with lots of turmeric I presume. They used to be flavorful and chewy but are not any longer. And the curry had a great peanutty flavor, but now just tastes of chilies. I'm sad I will need to find a new go to for Thai food. read more

I always visit the Los Gatos location. They are fast and friendly and the food feels authentic. What I love most is when you want spicy, they can deliver spicy.
