Had lunch today. Really busy, we took the last parking space. Seated quickly and service was simple yet effective from a friendly young lady who easily managed all of her tables during a busy lunch rush and my water glass was never empty. I ordered the Tofu Pad Kee Mao and it was delicious. I would have preferred it a little bit spicier but wasn't asked how hot I wanted it. The tofu was prepared nicely and I like how they slice their bamboo chutes. Large portion especially considering it was lunch and I like their presentation better than some of the other Thai restaurants in the area. Spring roll was very typical. I have eaten here for years and eat here only because I have no other choice in town. Service usually is lower than fair to poor. No one friendly. No one smiles. (Must hate their jobs?) Owner is fake friendly. The food--- everything is so ridiculously over sweetened. Even the soup they serve with lunch is sweet!!! Seriously?!? I would never use the word excellent to describe this place. Not even great. Maybe okay but definitely could be better. I mean they charge extra if you want more rice. I am definitely a fan of this restaurant. I typically order the pad kee mao level 3 because I love spicy food. The service is exceptional and the portions are huge. Seeing as how I am not Thai and have never been to Thailand, I do not know how traditional/authentic this Thai is, but I love it! I have been to many Thai restaurants and every time I try a new one I think "eh, its ok, but Thai Smile is much better." The service here is always fast and friendly, and they have a large menu that has something to please everyone. My top recommendations are Pad Thai (for those who do not want something spicy) or the Panang Curry (for those who want something with a little kick to it). Guess what their curry is made from? The recipe of the curry can be found in oriental market in indianapolis. We had sweet n sour pork and spicy green beans with chicken. Both meats were thinly sliced pale meat and tasted like nothing. The sauces lacked substance and were sweet. The green beans were not seasoned. We were so hungry and so disappointed. I compare this to the Thai Thera in Richmond and it does not hold a candle to it. Good service, not-so-good food. This used to be a favorite restaurant of ours, but after last nights disappointing meal (Tuesday evening, around 7:30), we'll no longer seek out Thai food here. The spring rolls tasted stale and bland, the Pad Thai noodles had no flavor, and the Tangerine Pineapple Chicken was a congealed gooey mess. I really enjoy the food. However, I have experienced horrible service multiple times. One afternoon I walked in about 30 minutes before they closed for lunch. The owner told me they were closed and would not seat me. About a year later I went back, about 20 minutes before they closed for the night. The waitresses looked at me in disgust, then looked at each other and rolled their eyes. The owner once again said "Sorry, we're closed". I responded that the sign on the door states that they are open until 9pm. The owner lied to me and said, "Nope. 8:45". My family and I will not support a business that treats their customers with such disrespect. read more

This place introduced me to my love of Thai food. Sounds silly, but growing up in Muncie can make you a little sheltered, ok?! But anyway, I fell in love with this place the moment I tried the Sesame chicken......And I've never stopped loving it! Now I live in Chicago, and there are lots and lots of Thai places here, but I have to say, NONE compare to the sweet tangy taste of that crispy Sesame chicken (with cashews, YUMMMM). I have found other standby dishes since moving here, but if I want good Sesame Chicken, I have to wait til I come home for holidays and make Thai Smile a priority (permitting they aren't closed for the holidays. This has broken my heart many-a-time.) I always start out with the delicious steamed dumplings, and the portions are HUGE, so I usually split my Sesame chicken with someone else, and sometimes I still have leftovers! Always good. Spicy noodle and chix rice are standards. Consistently delish. Wait staff is mostly BSU students and speak english. When mangos are in season (which isn't very often) you can get this sticky rice and mango dessert (I believe it takes a day to make it) and it will blow you away.
