Good food good service , the best Thai food in Maine I give five stars for tasting I will be back

Having read tons of other reviews where I thought other people were too harsh or critical, I'm doing my best to find something nice to say about the food here and I'm just really struggling. We did takeout and it was ready fast. Like, 10 min fast. It was ready for us when we pulled up to get it, and the person who handed it to me was friendly. That's about it, unfortunately. The food we received was some of the worst Thai I've had in a very long time. I ordered the Drunken Noodles with Tofu. The noodles were overcooked and it was sitting in a pile of grease as if I'd ordered a soup dish. I ordered it medium spice level, and it didn't even make a flavorful impact. I was starving so I ate some of it, but for me to leave Thai food uneaten in the container means that I really didn't like it. Bummer of a dinner. read more

I was extremely disappointed in the "beef panang ". It was a frozen or canned sauce with a cut up hunk of cheap steak cooked on a flat top and mixed in. The pad Thai was, well, a frozen meal. No peanuts, no fresh - anything? Guys- YOU CAN DO MUCH BETTER. I may try you again but I just tossed $50 of food in the trash. So incredibly disappointing. If you are going to dine here from out of state, try takeout to test the Thai dishes you normally order. We unfortunately sat down indoors because we wanted Thai for a late lunch. If you are someone that has access to highly rated Thai in your city then don't come here. Possible we came on an off day when the kitchen was understaffed and kitchen not stocked. The price is high for the amount and quality of food you get. We ordered soup, appetizers and 4 dishes. The drunken noodles was ok, but it was swimming in oil. The seafood basil stir fry had one scallop and four shrimp...few squid pieces. The coconut soup did not have the coconut taste. The Thai iced teas had condensed milk and they added tons of sugar so it was undrinkable. Rating it higher than it should be because it's a family run business. Casual dining with a large menu that includes Chinese. There might be better dishes, but I just ordered the same dishes we get from any Thai place and was disappointed. read more

The food was delicious, the service was fast and our server was very enthusiastic about the restaurant and food. It is truly authentic and traditional Thai food, and I've been to Thailand and worked in Thai restaurants. This restaurant is easily some of the best Thai food in New England! I wish we had gotten the Satay, but the Drunken noodles, Pad See Ew, Laab Gai, and golden curry were simply divine. I cannot recommend this place enough!! Fantastic Thai iced tea as well! read more

The service was amazing and the owner of the restaurant was so lovely and funny. The food was very very good and flavorful.

First, there are many restaurants in the Ellsworth/ Bar Harbor area. Make a good decision and choose Thai Sana. The food is fresh and delicious. My pad Thai was incredible my wife's orange chicken was perfect and the crab Rangoon were the best that my wife and I have ever had. But, what really sets Thai Sana apart is their service. They took the time to talk with each able and really seemed to genuinely care about their customers. I am not from the area of this restaurant but would make visiting here again a priority the next time I'm in the region. This place should rival Cadillac Mountain as a destination for folks when coming to Bar Harbor. It truly is a dining experience and my wife and I left feeling like our dinner at Thai Sana will be something we remember for many years to come. read more

Amazing find in Ellsworth!! We visited this restaurant during our stay in Acadia and we loved the cuisine. The taste of some of the items were very close to what I had during my stay in Thailand!! This spot is a little farther to get to as it is more on your way to Bar Harbor vs in central Ellsworth but it's definitely worth a visit if you like Thai food that is delicious and has a different flavor profile from the other Thai restaurant in Ellsworth. read more

Recently moved to Ellsworth and was shocked to find a Thai restaurant. Was seated right away. Ordered the Thai iced tea, fresh shrimp rolls and the seafood fried rice. Order came out quick! Thai iced tea was refreshing and not overly sweet. The peanut sauce was amazing with the rolls, but I found myself mixing both sauces with each bite! Calamari with the fried rice was a little chewy and wish there was more shrimp added. Overall it was a good experience would definitely come back again. read more

This has become one of our favorite places to casually eat at as locals. Very clean restaurant. Good depth of flavor in all the dishes I've tried so far. My favorite has been the pork soup. Husband's in love with the fried dumplings. The service here is outstanding. They are so welcoming! And joyful. We really enjoy our dinners here and are glad we found it. read more

My husband and I stumbled upon this little gem after a long day of hiking in Acadia. We had missed our anniversary dinner reservation at another restaurant and ended up at Thai Sana instead, and what a happy accident it was! From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted by the most gracious host. Even though the restaurant was quite busy, the host and our waiter made the service feel flawless. We never felt rushed; in fact, the host took the time to chat with me about the ongoing conflict between Cambodia and Thailand after learning about my background. His warmth extended to every guest who walked in that night; it was clear he genuinely cared about creating a welcoming atmosphere. We ordered the pineapple fried rice and spicy curry tofu with vegetables. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The curry was light yet creamy, with an incredible depth of flavor. We even ordered extra rice so we wouldn't miss a drop of that savory broth! The pineapple fried rice was perfectly balanced--the sweetness of the pineapple and the nuttiness from the cashews in each bite was just perfect. Their homemade chili oil took it to the next level--honestly the best I've ever had, and I've tried many! I highly recommend Thai Sana. Everything you can imagine was wrong. I don't normally leave a review, but this is bad enough that I need to review. My husband's steak had more fat than meat covered with weird looking sauce that looked like a thousand island dressing. The calamari and scallop appetizer had two scallops, not even golden brown crispy, oil pool on the plate. My pad se-ew, where do I start?! The wide noodle must have been a left over from previous day that it was mushy, sauce must have been a straight oyster sauce, no other taste, but salty oyster sauce. Carpet in the dining is probably moldy, wet dirty, bits and pieces of cut out carpet that looks like muddy crust, the bathroom doors and everything could use a wipe!!! Dirty overall and I couldn't wait to get out, left as soon as I could muster to eat bare minimum. McDonald's would be your better choice, at least you know what to expect. I just hope I don't get sick as I get queasy eating. The only thing fresh was jasmine rice for the steak dinner. read more

We went on a weeknight. We ordered beer and a couple of dishes and soup. It was the Worst service I have ever had. The beer didn't show up until after the meal. The restaurant "ran out of bowls" when I tried sharing some soup with my friend. The wait staff often showed up just to thrown food onto the table. Overall it was a terrible experience. The food is also not as good as expected. The curry was typical but they gave far too little rice. The fresh shrimp rolls were a bit dry. read more

I'd give this 3.5 stars, but will round up instead of down for purposes of this review. This was one of the few ethnic restaurants in the area that were rated well, so we came here to get a break from all the American lobster roll/fried seafood places. I was really excited about trying their soft shell crab curry, something that I don't typically see on Thai menus back home. Service was okay. Our waitress was friendly and refilled our waters during the meal. What was strange is that she didn't any of us what spice level we wanted as we were ordering. When it got to be my turn, I asked if there were different spice levels...my dad found the levels on the menu and let me know (the typical mild-extra hot spectrum), so at that point I ordered mild plus, and then everyone chimed in with their spice preference. She didn't write any of them down or seemed like she was really listening, so I was skeptical that she would remember and/or convey these to the chef. They did turn out to be accurate for the most part, although they gave my mom mild instead of no spice. I'm just wondering what the default spice level would be, if we never spoke up and told her what we wanted - that should be something that is asked of everyone as they're ordering. I ordered a side of steamed rice noodles with my crab curry instead of the standard white rice. It was worth it, because the amount of noodles was considerably more than the rice that came with the other meals. I loved that the noodles soaked up the curry sauce and offset the saltiness. They were quite heavy handed on the salt for the sauce, and it didn't have much depth of flavor to it - it was pretty one dimensional. However, I was impressed with the variety and amount of fresh vegetables in the dish. The crab was crispy and delicious. I also tried my mom's drunken noodles. They do use fresh rice noodles for that dish, which is a plus. The flavor was okay, but I've had better. Prices are a little on the high end for Thai food ($12.50 for noodle dishes with chicken/tofu/vegetables, e.g.) but not too bad. This is a good place to go to if you are sick of the overwhelming number of lobster roll/fried seafood joints in the area and want some variety. The restaurant is managed by a cute senior couple who are very sweet and friendly. When we reached there and asked for a table for two, they were about to close for the day. Looked like they had a big party and needed to clean up. With less staff, it was difficult for them to do it soon so they gave us two options - takeout or come back after an hour for dine in. We chose the second option and came back. They worked really hard to clean up everything in less than an hour. We ordered red curry and basil fried rice. Both the dishes tasted authentic. Quantity was quite sufficient, we couldn't finish our plates. The taste was simple yet very flavorful, got a feeling of eating homemade food that's light on the stomach, healthy and good for your health. Solid Thai spot. After three days of seafood, we needed a change for our taste buds and Thai Sana was exactly what we needed. The outside of the restaurant is very unassuming. It's connected to a motel which isn't something you would normally see. Had I not order online, I would have driven by and not given the restaurant a shot. The menu had all your Thai standards along with a few items would find at a Chinese restaurant. Prices seemed fair considering the amount of food you receive. We ordered the pad thai with chicken, drunken noodles with chicken, basil chicken, red curry with tofu, and pineapple fried rice to feed a group of 6 which included a few vegetarians. All the dishes met the standard for takeout Thai food but the drunken noodles and basil chicken ended up being the crowd favorites. I would recommend this spot for anyone visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia looking for quick takeout that's only 15 minutes away. read more

By now, we're "regulars" here, at Thai Sana. We don't get to Ellsworth often; but, when a trip is in order (which happens about once a month), a stop at Thai Sana for lunch is without question. So, it's been a good four times here, and, I swear, the food just keeps hitting those high marks for us! Now, to be clear, we are plant-based, so I can only rave about the dishes I've had from the relatively smaller "vegetarian" selections of their extensive menu; which, have been nothing but top-notched. Service is low-key and quiet (English is not a first language here), but has always been very friendly. This updated review is mainly to post more photos of dishes I've tried. If my pics don't make you want to at least give this place a try if in Ellsworth, then I need better photography skills...! (LOL!) ;) Thai Sana ain't fancy; the decor is not gonna be a lure. Don't come expecting "ambiance" (it's attached to a nondescript motel whose marquee boasts its indoor pool); it's set-up no different than any family-run Asian restaurant that you'd find in almost any American town. There's no big-budget design plan here; we're talking a mishmash of second-hand "Asian" furnishings. But everything looks clean and tidy. A wonderful find in Ellsworth. Thai Sana is slightly hidden on US 1 if your not looking for it. We have driven by it a few times and never noticed it. Not this time, we stopped in and so glad we did. We ordered the Fresh Roll - Chicken, Tofu $8.00 - Lettuce, carrots, basil leaves, and green onion wrapped with rice paper with sweet and sour sauce and peanut sauce. The Fresh Roll arrived and was perfect. The rice paper was tightly rolled around the filling and was full of basil. Yummy. We asked for some hot chili oil to go with it and our server brought out a bowl of chili oil they make in house. SO GOOD and HOT. For the main, I ordered the Red Curry Dish - Served with Jasmine Rice. tofu $15.50 - Bamboo shoots, green beans, bell peppers and basil with red curry in coconut milk. They have a heat scale of: *Mild, **Medium, ***Spicy, ****Call the Fire Department. With that said, loving spicy food, I ordered my Tofu Red Curry as Call the Fire Department Hot, and OMG, call the fire department, my mouth was on fire, loving the flavor, eating more, until I finely had to take a break. It is so good and SO HOT. Just like authentic Thai cuisine in Thailand. Finely, a Thai restaurant that knows how to spice the food. We ordered take out from Thai Sana twice during our stay in Ellsworth, in part because they were one of the only non-fast food restaurants open past 7pm. The food here was very tasty! One order was for the pad Thai with vegetables and another was for the pad see ew with tofu. The tofu wasn't the best but everything else was flavorful. We also had the Thai rolls (spring rolls) which were very good. The second time we ordered the website wasn't working and nobody answered the phone so just had to go in person, and the lady at the counter was very pleasant. read more

Casual restaurant attached to the Colonial Inn. We were taken aback by the plain exterior and empty parking lot at 5:30 on a Saturday. The haphazard interior didn't improve our first impression. The chairs are all covered with very wrinkled vinyl-like chair covers. Wearing shorts and these things do not mesh. Nothing against chair covers but they should at least fit. Our waitress was an elderly woman with a not-so-good grasp of the English language. We had a difficult time getting answers to our questions. We ordered various beverages including one beer. For some reason, she brought two beers. We tried, to no avail, to explain that we only ordered one. And we did get charged for the extra "no we didn't order it" beer. This is the most expensive Thai restaurant we've ever visited. $130 for four meals and one, no two, beers. We just ordered entrees, no appetizers or desserts. On the bright side, the food was, overall, very good. The serving sizes are more than adequate. We had the Panang chicken (which is not on the menu but they'll make it), the Red Curry shrimp with extra shrimp (which they charge a pretty penny for), the Mango Salmon and the Steak Teriyaki (on the menu offers brown rice which they don't have). No complaints on either of the curries they were very tasty. The salmon tasted fine but it was a very thin piece of fish buried under the manog. My spouse asked for the salmon to be cooked medium rare but there's no way they could cook it other than well done. My sister ordered the steak which came in very large, thick strips. It was disappointing. It was mostly gristle and fat with very little meaty flavor. Waste of money on this one. This is a hard one to rate for sure. This was a decent meal after a long exhausting day. We were the only guests on 1 table in the entire restaurant on a weekend night. The food tends to be on the mild side for those who like genuine Thai flavors. This was not the reason why I give it a 4/5 star rating. The vegetables were plentiful but could have been cooked a bit longer in the gravy and the chicken was tough. The duck too was tough. Guessing that both these meats are preboiled and then added to gravies but not sure. I would go here again but not to expect the best Thai food in Ellsworth. read more

We stopped here on a long weekend Mon evening on the way to Bangor from a trip to Bar Harbor. Thai Sana was open late and looked delicious, so we stopped in for a hot meal during the cooler evening! We ordered the red curry with seafood, which came with some veggies and some pieces of squid, shrimp, and scallops. They were busy and did not ask for our spice level. 2nd time here and I won't be back. I ate here in November '21 and the food was alright. I don't expect much good Asian in Northern Maine but I came back tonight because I didn't want pizza or bar food but at least I knew what to expect, Sub-par Asian food but at least with some comfort. First I must say the service was sincere, they pointed the space heater for us to stay warm. So when I first sat down, I noticed a red coating of oil in my tea cup, the gentleman exchanged it right away! But when my meal came, I saw a small piece of hair, sure mistake happen and I just took it out. As I continued to eat my chicken dish I found another hair, now I'm starting to feel unhappy but since I'm already half way done I didn't want to make a fuss, but when I found a third hair, I'm couldn't eat anymore and we just paid and left. When we reached Thai Sana for late lunch, it was all empty and we started to think may be it was a bad decision to come here. But luckily the food was beyond expectation. It was flavourful, well presented and value for money. We ordered shrimp rolls, mango curry, thai sweet and sour curry. We also ordered large Tom yum soup and small Tom kha soup. But large portion was easily enough for four people; so order wisely. Tom yum soup was delicious with lots of veggies and chicken and helped in alleviating my sore throat. Sweet and sour curry was way too sweet for my taste but everybody else seemed to love it so I guess it depends on your preference. I am on my honeymoon with my fiance and we ordered from here. The orange chicken was NASTY. Literally no chicken just fried breading. The mango curry chicken was okay. I was in the middle of eating the pork fried rice when i saw the review where the lady found a cockroach in her fried rice and almost threw up. Customer service was terrible & food is over priced. Also had to wait 35 minutes instead of 20. Would not recommend. read more

Bad service and bad food. We just had dinner there today, we ordered Tom Yum and Thai fried rice. The owner was unwelcoming and she was like she didn't bother to serve, didn't smile even once and had a cold face. We were eating half way and she already gave the bill. We were on vacation with a kid. We had never been to a more unwelcoming restaurant. Food was between bad to mediocre, the food we ordered (pineapple fried rice and Tom Yum) tasted like Chinese food (not even good Chinese food), not the regular good Thai food. We promised ourselves we'd never come back even though we are staying in the same Ellsworth area for 4 days. read more
