It gives off family business vibes. Parking is good. Area is kinda sketchy at night. The food portions are incredibly generous. I would not get the fried rice again, but it's acceptable. The drinks are pretty mediocre, but it has incredible amounts of alcohol so be careful. The service was impeccable. I would come back again for the drinks and beef teriyaki. Basic Chinese takeout. Since it was fast and convenient I wasn't that disappointed. But I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

Good for what it is, doesn't compare to Chinese food from New York, Philly or even some places in Boston but for this area I think it's a good option unless you want to drive to Bucksport. Food portions are large, ingredients seem to always be pretty fresh and flavor is decent. Not my number one favorite spot locally but on the nights I don't want to drive out of town it's a solid contender. Service is also always pleasant and observant even when busy. Some of the worst American Chinese food I've ever had. No taste, low quality and barely edible. My dog turned her nose up to it and wouldn't touch it. No joke. The service was good and fast. Unfortunately, the food that I purchased was absolutely horrible and I bought four things off the menu. It included the shrimp wonton soup, the crazi maki sushi roll, cheese Rangoon, and the broccoli with garlic sauce Combo. Out of all four dish the broccoli with garlic sauce combo was the worst as well as the shrimp wonton soup. The broccoli was undercooked in a soup of sauce. I had to eat fried rice that was swimming in sauce, both chicken tender look like two different pieces of tender and the beef wontons were soggy. It has so much sauce that it came out the container into the bag. the soup had a really bad smell like wine and tasted sour. The sushi roll looks like it was thrown together and tossed into the box. I'm really disappointed because it's one of the few Asian restaurant closest to Bar Harbor. I spent almost $70 just to be disappointed. I am shocked by the 2 star rating of this restaurant. I agree with the reviewer who noted that possibly people are just ordering the wrong things. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and hands down they have the best teriyaki chicken / beef, as well as pork fried rice around! General Tso's, sweet & sour chicken, & wonton soup are all great as well! I've only had better Chinese in Portland, and that was dim sum which is an entirely different vibe from here. D14 & D28 combo specials are the bees knees. Whenever I'm in town visiting family, I place an order for two meals - 1 to have right now, and 1 to take home for later. The location is great, ample parking and I've never had to wait for a table as the restaurant is on the larger side - but it is ALWAYS busy. If you love cleaning up dog vomit in the middle of the night, China Hill would be a great choice for dinner. Whatever standards used to exist are no longer in place. CLEARLY. We spent about $75 there last night getting a special dinner for ourselves and our friend who has been so helpful and kind to us. Well, we didn't want to give our friend food poisoning as a special thanks! Because I don't eat chicken, I am the lucky one who didn't end up vomiting last night, but I will say that: the hoisin sauce for the moo shu smelled off, and the Crab Rangoon also smelled off. (I feel like a damn fool, because when your seafood dish smells like it might not be okay, you should NOT eat it anyway and hope for the best!) I lucked out and didn't get sick, only to be awakened in the night from the sounds of my fiancé vomiting up his General Tso's Chicken. He informed me that the dog (who had eaten some of his leftovers) had also puked all over the place. When I walked her, I also noticed that she has diarrhea. Fun! Yelp is suggesting that I attach photos, but I think I'll spare you. We called to complain today and were told nobody was available to talk about it with us today. Allegedly they'll call us tomorrow. This is an amazing restaurant, and has been a long time established restaurant in the Ellsworth community. The food is delicious and probably one of the highest quality Chinese food restaurants I've ever been in. The decor is amazingly beautiful and has a water fall feature in the lobby, as well as some amazing Asian art work all throughout. There is a nice sports bar for those that enjoy watching sports while dining, and the bartenders are friendly and always on point. There are also two function rooms, one seats about 20 - 25 comfortably (I call this the Cherry Blossom Room) referring to the beautiful artwork on the wall. The other seats about 60, and the two rooms can be opened up to make one huge venue. They even have a dance floor they can put down for special occasions. The place is well kept, and has plenty of parking as well. I would strongly recommend this place as the staff is outgoing and kind, and very accommodating. As well as good quality food and drinks. If your in the mood for Chinese food, this is the place to be! They even have some American options too! Like cheeseburgers and fries! So good, I couldn't believe it! read more

I wasn't expecting too much when I stopped in here with a friend. This is close to where he works and he loves going here for a quick lunch. I was a little worried regarding my gluten allergy that I wouldn't be able to eat anything. To my surprise the server was incredibly helpful (I mean seriously...really helpful!) She went back to the kitchen and asked what could be done for me. The kitchen had gluten free flour and offered to make nearly anything on the menu for me! I settled with the orange chicken and salad bar. The salad bar didn't have too many options for me (dressings were questionable and lots of little bread dessert items there) and the soups were not for sure gluten free. The orange chicken ended up being very good! I was really pleased with my meal and especially the willingness of the restaurant to cater to my allergy. I do have to agree with the salt comment made by other reviewers, price- also pretty high I think it was around 40 bucks for two for lunch, and we did want for water very often. The flavorless comments I have to disagree with, my meal was high in flavor. While I wouldn't make this a weekly 'must-have' I do think this is a pretty good little Chinese place and worth a try! read more

Have not been to china hill in a number of year, went yesterday with my boys to give it a try again. I have to say there has been a major improvement in the overall look and feel of the place. The people running the restaurant were very nice and professional. The food was great, we had items from the traditional chinese menu as well as the sushi menu all great. I also would give a shout out to the waitstaff. The waitress we had made to dinner, she was energentic, on the ball and full of enthusiasm. This might have been the worst Chinese food in the USA. Servers didn't wear masks and seemed to hate working there. Wontons were meatballs wrapped in funnel cake, the chicken tenders were round like a ball (more funnel cake), and the only thing edible was the egg rolls 2 for $7. The food I would give a 5/5 but the service was not to good. The owners where very nice but the staff that helped us was very short and couldn't hold a conversation. One of the employees also refused to give us duck sauce or soy sauce for our 6 meals to go. The food was okay, but they are the perfect example of rip off artist. When I called to place my order, I asked for 2 pu pu platters for 2 and veggie lo mien. When I made my order, I was told that the platters come with pork fried rice and if that was what I wanted to stick with. I said yes and continued placing my order. When I arrived to pick up my order, I noticed a sign that stated "due to increased prices in product, we are adding a temporary 5% charge to all orders". Not sure if that's even legal! When I got home and started unpacking food, I noticed I was missing the rice. I called China Hill right away to let them know the rice was missing. I was told that when you order more than one pu pu platter, you do NOT get any rice. Oh, by the way, you're going to pay the same price for platters regardless of whether or not it comes with rice. It always sucks seeing one of your favorite restaurants from your childhood fall to the wayside in terms of quality and flavor. I ordered Chicken Fried rice, beef wontons, and mini egg rolls. My companion ordered garlic shrimp, spicy tuna maki, spicy red snapper maki, yellow tail scallion maki, and crab rangoons. Now when you get fried rice you expect flavor and quality, instead what i got was a bland congealed mess that tasted of old oil of the extra virgin olive variety, the wontons were mediocre and overly fried, the egg rolls were salty and awful, the sushi was absolutely wretched and so was the shrimp and rangoons. Also, for the price you pay the portions were insultingly small to the point where i could get cheaper and larger from the local gas station even. That being said, the service was great and the server was friendly. The ambience though i gotta say was rather bland and mediocre. The decor was lacking, the booths were uncomfortable, the table was okay, and the place just looked dead and drab despite the people there. This was the last time I'll ever come here. Genuinely a shame too because i used to love coming here when i was growing up. I basically grew up in this restaurant just about and to see it having fell so far genuinely hurts. read more

Have not gone there in years, then when I did go back it was the same problem. Last problem was the egg roll was saturated with soy sauce. My husband and I went to China hill restaurant yesterday for lunch, I had the lunch D meal, I wanted to try the chicken toast because I never heard of it before, as I was eating I had something chewy in my mouth but swallowed it by accident and hen I had a bigger piec, when I looked at it I saw a plastic cap about 3/8 of an inch. My husband told the waitress she took it to show the owner she came back and said he said he never saw that before and would I like another meal or take that off the bill! If u love soy sauce , this is the restaurant for u. Two out of the three Chinese dishes ordered, were in a bed of soy sauce. The pork fried rice was brown with soy sauce. The egg roll didn't taste right either. The wontons were pork Rangoon for some reason. Worst meal I ever had n $13 a dish. We moved to the area within the last year and this place has pretty decent takeout. The lo mein is FULL of shrimp, egg rolls are great (don't love their dipping sauce though), and the beef teriyaki is fantastic. Their orange chicken is pretty good too. If you just have a hankering for Chinese, this place is solid. It's not going to win any awards, but it tastes good and makes for a nice Friday night at home after a long work week. read more
