This place is delicious! Lunch price is very reasonable. I believe it's a little over $7. You get a small salad with a tangy peanut sauce over it. It's very good! There is a nice selection for the lunch menu. You get your food within 10 minutes, probably in 5 minutes. Your water is constantly refilled and the waiters are extremely nice! I could not believe that its food is tasty and very affordable. I enjoyed mango juice and Asian fried rice there. It revived my memories of Asian trips. I recommend it to every one who likes healthy foods. It has both regular and spicy dishes, but ask the waiters before ordering if you avoid spicy foods. read more

I'm not sure why it took us 6 years to return to this place, but I'm glad we went back. As before, we got a six pack of mixed beer from the bar next door and our server quickly brought us an ice bucket to keep them chilled. The place was very busy, but we didn't have to wait for a table. We started with the spring rolls. They were the size of egg rolls and very good with a thin crispy wrapper and a nice dipping sauce. I had the drunken noodles with shrimp and it was yummy. I wish I had asked for more heat as I love spicy food and there was really no extra heat in this dish, but it was very delicious as it was. Mr. Wonderful had the Panang Curry with beef and I couldn't resist dipping my spoon into that wonderful orange/red sauce several times. I even poured some over my drunken noodles and it was great. They appear to have a very large take out business by the number of people popping in to pick up food, so that's an option too. I'm sure it won't be six years before we visit again. read more

It is always nice to be pleasantly surprised walking into a place you see almost everyday. The interior is simple, with cultural decorations scattered around the room. I went for lunch with a couple of guys so I only was able to try the meal in front of me i.e. sharing was out of the question. I had a dish that seemed to be on the sweeter side served with rice and the complimentary salad. The servers one goal looks to be to give you your food, let you eat, and then rip your plate from under your nose all while keeping your glass of water filled to the brim. Surprisingly i found it all kind of funny. The prices for lunch start off at 7.95 and go up from there. The portions for lunch are considerably smaller but that is only in comparison to dinner portions which are enormous. Pad Thai and massaman curry are fabulous. If you ask for tofu as the protein they are very thoughtful and ask if egg is ok. Their attention to detail on your order translates to the quality of their food. The service is very quick and friendly. This restaurant is a BYOB. I'd never heard of this before so I felt weird bringing in a bottle of wine. But it's totally cool. They'll cork it for you (with NO cork fee!) and even mix you drink if that's your thing. I think most people get their food delivered or to-go, so don't be alarmed if you dine in and the restaurant isn't full. Just be sure tip your waiter/waitress really well. Take it to go. The food is good but 2 out of 3 times we've eaten here other ppls children were running around and noisy. The dining room is small and people like to bring their babies. Been here several times. Food seems to be authentic. A tad pricey for what it is. I mean, how much does noodles and rice cost, especially when you purchase it in 10000 lb bags. Nonetheless, I've been here several times. My latest meal was with a group. We were celebrating the announcement of a new baby, so we asked the staff to do their traditional "happy birthday" song to the new mom to be. It was great fun. They are BYOB, so that is a plus and allowed us to bring champagne to toast the announcement. Everyone was pleased with their meals, except me. I ordered the seared tuna. I am a huge fan of seared tuna, but theirs was a bit "fishy" smelling and tasting. Not a good sign. I suspect they just don' t have a big calling for that dish. Friendly staff; cute dining area. The food is always very good. Their tea is a unique home blend, which I recommend trying. I prefer the dishes at Thai Thai around the block, but my friend prefers it here. I would recommend trying both restaurants to find which one better suits your taste palate. read more

Thai Rak Thai is one of my favorite restaurants in the are. It has a great location down town. I've had nearly the whole entire vegetarian menu, and everything is always delicious. If you're a strict vegetarian/vegan.. Make sure to let your server know fish sauce and eggs are not okay. Dinner is a little pricey, but you can't beat the lunch special, which is lower in cost & comes with a free side salad with a delicious peanut dressing. If you're ever in Scranton this is a great place for some delicious foreign cuisine. Thai Rak Thai is a truly phenomenal Thai restaurant and dining establishment in general. From the moment you walk in the amazing colors and decor transports you. They also play a Thai cover album of Beatles songs and other easy listening music, which is a really beautiful soundtrack for the restaurant. The staff is impeccable. They make you feel right at home and are super attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. I order calamari everywhere I go and this is one of my favorites. Some of my other favorite items to order are the spring rolls, buffalo wings, Pad See Aew with beef, Kao Pad with chicken, Pineapple Fried Rice and the Honey Duck. I literally can't get enough of their food. I crave it like I crave sleep! They also do a great birthday celebration so I never hesitate to take friends for that special day. If they were ever located closer to my home with a private parking lot I would legitimately be there every other day. Dine here and you will be one happy customer! read more

This review is based on multiple experiences at Thai Rak Thai. If I could give 2.5 stars, I would, but I chose 2 stars because of the lingering ire I feel towards the waitstaff. Firstly, the food is excellent. I have tried all of the curries (sans eggplant because I'm allergic,) the Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles and they were very authentic, flavorful, and the portions were fair. The spring rolls and golden triangles are something that kept bringing me back as appetizers. The sticky rice and mango is also quite delicious but overpriced. However, the servers definitely leave much to be desired. I am a 20-something who has worked MANY jobs in food service (especially as a waitress) and I am quite sympathetic to their plight, but even I have my limits when it comes to generosity of both tips and a review. They are pushy about featured specials to the point of being rude, for one thing. Many times they do not write down my request for the level of spiciness desired in my dish (I'm a medium to hot person.) I haven't felt such blatant age-ism since being in my teens; I get the impression that because I and my dining companions are youngish (thus they assume we might order less expensive dishes or not tip) we are not valued customers. On my most recent visit, I and my friend ordered items that were never brought to our table (two jasmine teas and jasmine rice) but still appeared on the bill. Our waters were filled (that seems to be the only thing they wanted to do for us) but we were never asked about our meals. It was not busy enough to warrant such poor service. When we brought it to their attention that we were charged for items we never received, I don't even think they apologized or offered us a drink on the house or a desert, simply took it off the check. I don't think I will go back after so many instances where I was so unhappy with how I and my friends are served. Time to try Thai Thai. Hopefully they will realize they are no longer the only game in town and will step up their customer service. read more

I absolutely like this place,the food is so tasty that when I had to leave this city I was distressed that I would not find such great thai and I have tried since then so many thai restaurants and have always been disappointed because none of the places compare to this restaurant,just last week on the way to NYC we stopped in Scranton so obviously went to Thai Rak Thai and it was simply great.The only problem I have with this place is the service provided like i asked for mango juice but the server insisted to try the coconut juice and guess what she turned up with coconut juice and on asking her to bring the mango one she gave me such a look for troubling her but still I go there for taste and not services and that's the only reason I didn't rate it with 5 stars read more

Let me start with the food. It was hands down amazing. Our small party ordered everything different from one another and shared items. Everything was spectacular. The duck, the drunken noodles, the giam soup, everything. Fantastic. The place as spotless and very nice atmosphere. The problem came with the service. The service was slow. We weren't picky or giving them super specific orders or anything like that. Just ordered the menu items. Then at the end we waited about 30 minutes for the check, then it turned into such an ordeal to split it. This is 2013, most people carry a debit/credit card and not cash, so it turned into another 20 minute project to split the check, which we ended up not being able to do anyway. Get it together with this and progress into modern times. We still left a decent tip because everything else was great. Staff is very gracious and sensitive to the customers needs. So much that they go a bit crazy filling your water every time you take a sip but its funny. Service is at an appropriate time, not suspiciously fast so that you wonder where it came from and not slow either. Prices are very reasonable, I think most of their entrees are about 12.00. I am a fan of Thai Rak Thai. The food is quite good and the service was very good. We had a large table and had no problem getting our food in a decent amount of time. Although there is no bar, they do allow you to bring your own. This is nice and allows for that nice moment when your tab is decently low. Definitely my favorite restaurant in Scranton. I am vegetarian, my wife is not. We both have so much to choose from on their menu. Service is super friendly and nicely paced. I love the coconut soup, spring rolls, the noodle dishes, mee krob, and Thai iced tea. Portion sizes are not huge, so we can usually finish what we order without feeling stuffed. Spice level is mild unless you ask for heat. They also have a nice tray with an assortment of spicy condiments that they bring to the table on request. read more
