I travel A LOT. Including many trips to Thailand. I can honestly say that Thai Princess is hands down the BEST and most authentic Thai that my wife and I have found. Every time we come to Lansing we make it point to eat here. The food is excellent and the staff is always courteous. You should be able to quench your Thai thirst here. This place has potential. I've been here twice. The first time, I was disappointed... as an earlier reviewer pointed out, the food here is WAY to sweet. The default spice levels suit a more Americanized palate. Even the tom yum soup was weirdly sweet, and the dipping sauce for the spring rolls was viscous and sticky like corn syrup. PRO TIP: ASK if they can make the dishes LESS SWEET, especially if you like more traditional Thai flavors. The second time I went, I asked for more spice/less sweet. My red curry came out just the way it should taste: very spicy, rich, a little sweet, a little sour. If you don't ask, though, you'll get the default cloyingly sweet, not very spicy food. Also they are super nice about adjusting the seasoning it if you ask. I still think they could improve their dishes a little by giving more rice/noodles in some of the dishes and it's a on the pricey side for what you get. But I'm still really happy to see some more options here in the Lansing area. read more

THAI PRINCESS IS THE BEST EVER. I've had Thai food in lots of major cities including NYC several times. I'm obsessed with Thai Princess. It's the best. The waitstaff is super friendly and wonderful and everything on the menu is delicious. Like, crazy delicious. Way better than you think. Like, I get chills when I eat the mango curry. If you want "giant portions" or your order custom-made to be spicy or mild, go to Wendy's and get a spicy chicken sandwich (not that there is anything wrong with Wendy's). Don't go to No Thai or Taste of Thai or any of that other ersatz Thai food. The food at Thai Princess is made by masters, and it's prepared to perfection. Really good Thai food isn't about spice, it's about complex, rich, herbal flavors and mingling of sweetness, creaminess, and spicy notes. The presentation of food is always top-notch--extremely artful, colorful, and tasteful. The attention to detail is astonishing. THE RICE COMES IN THE SHAPE OF A HEART. I just fainted. Also did I mention it's delicious? I go here every time my best friend visits from Utah, and she also agrees that it's the best Thai of all time and place. One time they mixed up our order and brought us the wrong curries BUT IT DIDN'T MATTER BECAUSE IT WAS ACTUALLY MORE DELICIOUS THAN WHAT WE ORDERED. Let me start by saying my wife and I love Thai food and we've eaten at 100's of Thai restaurants. We are not from the Lansing area and found the restaurant through Yelp and decided to give it a try. I came here with my Wife and 2year old daughter for the first time on a late Sunday evening. The place was very busy and about 60% of the customers were of Asian descent. To me that speaks volumes to their authenticity. The waitstaff was friendly the food was above average. The portion size was normal and the price was in-line with other Thai restaurants. The presentation was above average as well. The food was well flavored and properly spiced for Thai food. Which is something a lot of Thai restaurants struggle with. This is not a 5 start Thai restaurant but it has the potential to be a solid four. Unfortunately they fell short of that. They fell short because of the following. 1) no fountain soda - they serve your drink in a can with a mug of ice. 2) the waiter spoke very poor English and that caused a language barrier. Which we contributed to why he never brought my wife's soup that she had ordered as an extra. Much to our sunrise it was on the final bill so he had just forgotten it. 3) The waitstaff needs work. Very friendly but not attentive enough. Had he stopped back to check on us we would have told him she had never gotten her soup and I would have ordered another drink. I ate at Thai Princess today and was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the ingredients, the presentation of the dishes, and the lunch special which included soup, spring roll, salad, and my entree (Shrimp Pad Thai). Best thai food in the area for sure. It's rough because it's in Okemos which unless you take the bus or have a car isn't conducive for the MSU student but if you can make it there, it is awesome. I will start off by saying I love the decor there is a wall of colored glass bottles as soon as you walk in and the seating area is beautiful. As far as food goes, I absolutely recommend the peanut curry with chicken. It is the best thing on the menu, but you can't go wrong with a red curry or pad thai. the portions are a little smaller than most thai places I've been to, but still, when you need your somewhat quality thai fix nearby, this is the place you should go. read more

Besides Taste of Thai, this is the only other Thai restaurant where my brother will eat...and we have tried many, many Thai places. His standards are VERY high. I first came with a group of co-workers after a special event and was pleasantly surprised. I eventually brought both my brother and my husband for them to give it a try. Their lunch special is tasty and light and the small dining room is attractively decorated. That said, it's a bit of a drive from where I live on the west side and it's also slightly expensive, comparatively speaking. Agreeing with many other reviews on here, Thai Princess offers the best Thai food in the area! If you an MSU student, and have a car / or a friend that has a car - I would go here over No Thai any day. The ingredients are fresh, and flavors have depth. It is obvious that the restaurant cares about their food and their space. The area is nicely decorated and the booths have comfortable pillows to make your eating experience more relaxing! Best thing on the menu is green curry (with any sort of meat)! You may need an extra side of rice to finish the curry though - it is SPICY. read more

If this the best Thai restaurant in the area, then I'm definitely disappointed. All in all, the food was ok and I would come back to try other dishes. The prices are good, mainly around $10 and you get a 10% discount if you pay in cash! They have so many dishes to choose from! They don't use msg so that's good. I asked the waitress what she recommended from the stir fry section and she said hands down, the cashew chicken. She said many customers order that and it's not like Chinese cashew chicken. It seemed similar to me. It was ok but not something I would order again. My boyfriend got Pad Thai which was ok also but just not the best. We just came back from Thailand a few months ago so we are comparing it to what we've had there. Maybe that's not a fair comparison! They didn't have mango sticky rice since it wasn't in season =(. Thai Princess probably has the best Thai food in the Lansing Metropolitan area. It's the most authentic (by a long shot). And they make probably the best Crab Rangoon I've ever had. They just expanded the restaurant in order to double their seating capacity (which is good). That said, their ambiance is great; it's a warm cozy place with a well uniformed staff. My only complaints are that you really wind up paying for that ambiance. The bill is otherwise non-sensibly more expensive than their competitors particularly since their serving sizes are significantly smaller. The good-the decor and atmosphere is very nice. The food contained many fresh vegetables and was artfully presented. The not-so-good: my curry was too sweet and somewhat grainy. I had massaman and it usually is more coconut milk/less brown and somehow this version lacked the flavor depth I wanted. The Tom Ka soup was ok, a bit too sweet for me. Same with the pad thai. One of the things I think was missing here was more herbal freshness--cilantro, basil etc. . I may go back and try some of the stir-fry's that would play more to the restaurants strength in fresh veggies. I still miss Thai Kitchen (now closed) and even that was just the thai food I was used to for Lansing. Next time I want thai I'll probably just go to Asia's Finest on the southside of Lansing, the atmosphere isn't like Thai Princess, but the food is better and cheaper. We recently moved to East Lansing, and have been trying a lot of thai places in the area and so far this one has been the best. It is a little pricey... but overall the quality is good and the restaurant itself is very nice, a good place to go for a date or a family dinner. My husband ordered a curry which he loved and I ordered the pad see ewe which was cooked really well and had a good amount of chicken and broccoli in it. read more

Favorite thai restaurant in the greater lansing area. I take anyone who visits me either here or the soup spoon for dinner. The spring rolls with shrimp are the perfect appetizer for two but you could easily eat all three of them a full meal if you were hungry enough. ALSO gluten free! The entree I always get is the Peanut curry with chicken. I should branch out but its just sooo good with the egg plant, pepper, green beans, thai basil and chicken. YUM! The rice is also delivery in the shape of a heart. Nice touch. They recent expanded and decreased they're portion sizes from "enough to get full in the restaurant and have left overs" to "perfect size for dinner". I was excited to eat in Thai Princess because I love Thai food and I haven't really tried any Thai food near East Lansing. Me and my friends ordered two appetizers, one was called special pork maybe, I can't recall the exact name of it, but it was really good. The pork was fried perfectly, it was so juicy and tender, and the sauce was full of flavor too. The second appetizer was chicken with some kind of coconut milk sauce, and it comes with two side dips. It was tasteless and the chicken itself was so dry too. I ordered yellow curry with shrimp, it was way too sweet, but the shrimp was good though. One of my friends had red curry with shrimp which she thought it was okay. My husband and I came here during a short trip to Lansing and were craving Thai. To be honest, only a couple of places were open on Sunday and I was a little hesitant to try this place just based on pictures. Don't get me wrong, the food looked good but the drunken noodle doesn't look like what I usually get (darker sauce and not so many veggies). I ordered it anyway and was blown away! It's so much lighter than where we usually go and the veggies were all delicious. Not to mention the fried spring rolls were amazing. Maybe my expectation was too high... i was looking at yelp and very excited to try "the best thai restaurant in lansing". I got a tom yum soup and peanut curry. Tom yum soul was very VERY sweet and salty, not like sour savory tom yum soup I had at many other thai restaurant. The sad part was that there was not any vegetable except mushroom and 2 pieces of shrimp in my soup.(and i paid almost 4 bucks for it!!!!). The curry was little better than tom yum soup, but tofu tasted really old and it was not tasty at all. I spent almost40 dollars 2 entrees 1 soup and 2 thai teas. I dont think I have ever spent that much at a thai place before. The only reason why i didnt give them is because of the great service and good thai tea. This place is hidden across the street from meridian mall and I am so glad I found this nice sit down restaurant. Don't get me wrong, no Thai down the street is great for a quick dinner or lunch, but this place is so nice when you have time to sit down and enjoy some Thai food. Good bargain, nice atmosphere, average food. For the most part I like the Thai Princess. The atmosphere is nice, modern and clean. The service is very good. Additionally, the food is a bargain. My issue with the Thai Princess is the taste of the food. Rarely do the vegetables in the entree match the menu description. They tend to over-use green, red and yellow bell peppers in all of the stir fry dishes. The taste of many of their dishes are hardly distinguishable from each other (obviously curry is different than oyster sauce, my comment about the dishes not being distinguishable is more when comparing curries with other curries, stir fries with other stir fries, etc. ) Thai is one of my favorite cousines (when I travel abroad - which I do all of the time - I always look to try Thai restaurants), and there are not many (if any) good options in mid-Michigan. I believe this allows the food to be average yet receive such good scores from others. If this was located in a larger city with more competition, I fear they would not last long. read more

My husband and I have stopped in for lunch several times. It includes salad, soup and a spring roll. It's a nice break for us for the long drive home. The food is flavorful, fresh, and well balanced. My husband who isn't a terribly adventurous eater loves it and is always up for a trip here, and my more picky, authentic aesthetic is similarly pleased. Their pad Thai is neither suspiciously pink nor gloopy, it's fresh and flavorful and the noodles are perfect and bouncy. Their curries are amazing, and their thai tea is one of the best. I've stolen bites of my husband's fried rice, which was wonderful. The cooks really have their technique down, and the cooking here avoids all the pitfalls of the usual Americanized fare. Food: -Fresh Rolls: It's actually 2 rolls cut in half for a total of 4 pieces. Tasted as it should have, so no complaints. -Red Curry w/ Chicken: I ordered this medium spice level, which was still not spicy enough, but the dish was delicious nevertheless. It comes with huge chunks of eggplant, rice, and creamy broth. -Red Curry w/ Peanut: My friend ordered this two times in a row because she loves it so much. I had a taste of her curry sauce and it was slighly sweeter and less tart than mine. Service: -It's on the slower side, but if you're having a nice long-winded conversation like we were, it probably works out better. They are very friendly and polite as well! Overall, a good dining experience. Food quality and taste is good enough, especially for an Asian place in a not-so-big town in the Midwest. I was so excited to try what was classified as Lansing's best Thai food, and if that's the case in kinda bummed. Might have to hold off until we go back to Detroit to have Thai food. This place was ok, let's start with the ambiance....so this was a win for the restaurant, it's a very relaxed interior, nicely decorated. One side of the restaurant is better dressed than the other side. Food- we started off with spring rolls which were pretty good, I would give them 4 stars. Next we had the drunken noodles (wait....what was supposed to be drunken noodles, I'll explain) and Pad Thai. Pad Thai- the pad Thai was pretty good I would give it a strong 3.5, not as good as what I'm used to but I enjoyed it; I'll call it slightly above average. Good flavor, decent portion sizes Drunken noodles- ok so we really didn't try them, we ordered them but that isn't what came. I'll give the drunken noodles a meh 2 stars, they were edible but nothing I would order again Rama Noodle- this is what they sent instead of drunken noodles. I was not a fan, I honestly thought they just had horrible drunken noodles lol I would never order that on mistake or purpose again. On the upside they corrected the issue and gave us a drunken noodle to go..... They were really nice about the mistake, and apologized, we will be back to give them another chance.
