Yay! We were so excited to find a real Thai option in the area, as most restaurants offer up the same fair. And we weren't disappointed. The Yelp and Google maps places the location on the wrong side of the intersection, which was frustrating because we had a hard time finding the place, and it should be easy. It is right next to the grocery store. The restaurant decor isn't bad, and the atmosphere was actually quite nice. Service was great, lots of Thai food options for dinner, including curries,noodles and soups. I had a noodle dish and everything tasted great, veggies were fresh, tea was lovely! THai Phoon was for many years our favorite restaurant in Crystal River. We even joked we moved here because of it No more. Under new management as of January 2023 - No longer a different soup each day - only chicken and rice that was mediocre and the egg roll was stuffed with some kind of mush. Pra Rahm was horrible. extra thick sauce with only a few pieces of vegetable and the tofu was little triangles about 1/4 in thick and tough like "hockey pucs". We ordered medium spice (because you no longer can have medium+ and it was not even hot enough to qualify as mild. We will not be going back. read more

The waitresses were very nice and polite. The food was excellent; however, I was disappointed with the eggplant chicken in red curry. There was simply TOO much meat and not enough eggplant. I literally had to hunt for pieces of eggplant. The pork spring rolls were good. Initially, we were very skeptical about the place because of the exterior appearance but we trusted the Yelpers reviews and went in and we could not be happier! We ordered Pineapple Fried Rice and Pad ... ( I forgot the name lol) and it was very delicious. We went during weekday and the restaurant was super busy with Togos and dine-in customers. We had dinner here last Friday night and it was very good. We had the Panang Curry and Sauteed Mixed Vegetables. Both were very good, we completely cleaned our plates. We weren't able to try the fresh rolls since they all have meat in them, that was the only disappointment. The service was great, fast & friendly. We were in town for a small vacation from Maryland and many people spoke highly of this place so we had to try it as my Taiwanese girlfriend loves Thai food. The Thai tea was VERY good. For appetizers we had the fish cakes and Tom yum soup with chicken. Both were excellent. The fish cakes were crispy outside and soft and chewy inside and very tasty. The sauce that came with it was very good. The soup was absolutely delicious with a VERY tasty broth and extremely chicken meat. Let me add that the service was excellent. So friendly and attentive and made excellent recommendations. For entrees we had green curry with chicken extra spicy. It was so good and fresh. The veggies in it do fresh and not overlooked with a nice crispness to them. The chicken was so fresh. We also had the Pad Woon Sen. Which were clear noodles with fresh egg, snow peas, onions, cabbage, mushroom, carrots and very big shrimp. The dish had a great flavor, like it was cooked in an old iron wok with so much flavor infused in its metal. The veggies were fresh and cooked perfectly and there was a very generous amount of big, fresh, perfectly cooked shrimp. Highly recommended! read more

On business and my co-workers had tried this place before. Good service, possibly because one of my friends had been there a few times and knew the server. But maybe that's the way it always is. Nice clean tables and a pleasant space. They serve beer, so I had a Thai beer, which came out quickly. They have the usual thai selections. I ordered an appetizer of squid and garlic-pepper chicken as an entree. Neither was remarkable. The squid was a bit chewy and came with a very uninteresting dipping sauce. Too sweet. The chicken was quite bland - no garlic taste that I could discern and no other spices either. I had also ordered it 'hot' and it came out mild. This is not unusual, though. In fact, after I ordered, one of my friends remarked to "be careful". Be careful of what? Bland food syndrome? The two chile condiments weren't that good - a bitter dry red chile sprinkle and a vinegar-based fresh thai chile sauce. The latter was not bad, but they need a good garlic-red chile sauce. A bottle of fish sauce on the table would go well also. Still, I ate the whole dish. The chicken was composed of good cuts - no inedible parts you sometimes get when restaurants want to use every bit of the chicken they can. I'd give this place another shot - I'm here occasionally and Crystal River is not exactly overflowing with good restaurants. My co-workers all seemed to enjoy their food. read more

If you want incredible Thai food- look no further than Thai Phoon. This hidden gem of Thai cuisine is located in a strip store next to Save A Lot on Us Hwy. 19. The outside appearance is unassuming and if you're not looking for it - you can walk by without a thought but you would be missing a great culinary experience. The inside is modestly decorated with pictures and figurines of Thailand's culture. The lunch menu offers a daily special that includes a cup of soup that varies upon the day- including chicken and rice, Tom Yum soup (a hot and sour soup), Tom Kha Gai soup ( a chicken coconut soup) plus a few others. You also get a fried spring roll with your lunch special. Small but delicious and served with a sweet pepper sauce. Their list of appetizers offer fresh spring rolls plus other options including steamed dumplings (YUM), satay and fried tofu to name a few. Their fresh rolls are a definite must have in my opinion. Lettuce, bean sprouts, carrot strips, shrimp and sliced pork wrapped in a fresh spring roll wrapping served with a scrumptious peanut sauce. I can literally eat these every single day and not grow tired of them! A delicious surprise was the Thai Beef Salad. Pieces of tender beef with veggies tossed in a vinaigrette dressing that's a burst of fresh flavor. I would definitely order it again! There's plenty of specials to choose from, first and foremost the popular Pad Thai which you can get with either beef, shrimp, pork or tofu. There are other noodle dishes to choose from including one of my favorites Pad Woon Sen with mung bean noodles or cellophane noodles as most people know them as- mixed with vegetables and your choice of protein. They offer a variety of curries from yellow, green, red and panang curry. All delicious in my opinion but my favorite is the panang curry with coconut milk. So flavorful and delicious. You can have any level of heat in your meal. I always go for medium just enough heat to give it a little zing. After lunch service they close their door for a couple of hours before reopening for dinner ( kind of like a siesta). Dinner offers the same plates as lunch but in larger portions and their chef's specials. Their dinner specials are the gems in their crown jewels. Seafood Thai Herb Pot is outstanding. Shrimp and scallops are served with Thai herbs (not sure what they are but delicious) and vegetables that are crisp not soggy. Served with Jasmine rice but I always order the coconut rice which puts the whole dish over the top. Sweet and rich tasting. I also order the fried shrimp dish with panang curry. I alternate between this two dishes because of their outstanding flavor! I've come here many times -sometimes lunch other times dinner and I have never left disappointed or hungry so if you love Thai food or have an adventurous palate I urge you to try this place! read more

Very disappointed in the chicken pad Thai, the noodles were all chopped up and way to much sauce was on the dish. When finished eating there was an oily residue left on the plate.
