I love Asian food. These days I'm most likely to hit a Thai or Vietnamese restaurant, but it all started decades ago when my Mom took me out for Chinese food. Egg rolls and orange chicken were pretty exotic back then. Every once in a while I get a hankering for an egg roll with duck sauce, pork fried rice with hot mustard, or some other old school Chinese flavor. These guys never disappoint. I love this place. The food is super good, but like I wish they could just understand that spicy actually means spicy. I very frequently order stuff and I'm like make it extra spicy throw peppers in there something and for some reason they just don't do it. The lady is super nice over the phone, but I don't think she understands what spicy is. I love the look and feel of this little restaurant. I hope one day they understand what spicy is. read more

It's your usual American Chinese menu. We ordered carry out over the phone. Waited about 10 minutes for order to be ready. But if it's freshly cooked I am fine with the minimal wait. Best Chinese food Ive had in a long time! My husband ordered all white meat general Tso. Delicious and made to order. Chicken and broccoli was tasty. Broccoli cooked perfectly. Crab Rangoon was good but not our of the ordinary.. Egg rolls with the combo were crispy not over done. Fried rice was good could have used a bit more pork and veggies in it but tasty. Very greasy with an under taste. I ordered Vegetable Lo Mein and specifically asked them not to use too much oil. Well, the food was just swimming in Oil and had a terrible under taste. I have some to a neighbor and she agreed and told me she couldn't finish it either. I spent $32 dollars there Sunday evening for an order of Crispy Orange Beef-Shrimp Chow Fun with flat noodles and Shimp with garlic sauce. The orange beef was mushy not crispy and not at all up to the standards of other chinese restauants in this area. The shimp chow fun had no shimp and was with small round noodles instead of flat noodles, no shrimp!!. I really wouldn't eat there again! They need a new cook/chef!! read more

I can see the kitchen....I like that. The restaurant looked very clean. I ordered the Shrimp and Vegetables, my husband ordered Pepper Steak and Onions. Both were very good, portions were reasonable. The only thing I don't like is that soup and egg rolls are extra on different items. For instance.....on the Special Combinations which is where we ordered, you get rice and egg roll, but no soup, it's extra. I've never been to a Chinese restaurant where the soup is extra for the non-lunch special combinations. So my Egg Drop was 2.35 extra and my husbands Wonton was 2.65 extra. My shrimp with mixed veggies was 8.75. Husbands Pepper Steak with Onions was also 8.75, total 22.50 before tax and tip. A little pricey we thought. Lunch specials are all 6.50, but no egg roll and no soup only rice....a soda is included. Will go again, but will order something different. read more

I am visiting from California and my friends said, for a treat, we will order Chinese food. We ordered 3 dishes , PuPu Platter, Moo Shu pork, and chicken with vegetables from the lunch menu. The Moo Shu pork was awful, no flavor and tortillas instead of pancakes! Being from New York, I have always found it difficult to find good Chinese take out in other states. We tried a lot of places when we moved to the area and none were acceptable until we found this gem. The fried rice and egg rolls are what I rate a Chinese place on...much like Italian places need good bread and Mexican places need good tortilla chips. It is not really gourmet Chinese food, but then again they don't have gourmet prices either!. :-) Actually, the food quality is pretty good and we think it is priced just right for takeout. It is a regular weekly meal for use when we are wintering in town. Up north, we are forced to either go for great Chinese food (at 2X the price of this place), or terrible food at about the same cost as here. China Gourmet provides a great service to the Sugarmill Woods area! Not only is it the closest place to get Chinese food, but the food is actually quite good. I truly believe the prices are very reasonable and the quantity of food (portions) we receive is very generous. The owner and her staff have provided excellent customer service consistently over the years. We try to get a meal from the China Gourmet about once a week, and we have never had an issue with food quality, quantity, or taste. We have found the owner and her staff to be very helpful and have even cooked things for my family that aren't normally of the menu, such as "Orange Chicken Combo". When we go there, we usually get General Tso Chicken, Wanton Soup, but other things they've made for us have always been awesome! I highly recommend China Gourmet!
