It was my first time going to New China. I had a New Years Day party and wanted to get Chinese Food for all my friends. I had 19 people. When I called to order the food, the women who I was speaking to was professional and very friendly. She helped me with my big order with no problem. When I picked up the food, the girl at the counter was very friendly and sweet. She was the daughter of the women that took my order. I had such a big order the girl helped me take it out to my car, she was wonderful. The party was a success all my friends loved the different dishes I served and thought the food was awesome. Take out order for two on a Monday. Most Chinese restaurants in this area are closed on Monday so this was great for us. This restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. Six months in Ocala and not happy with the Chinese restaurants we ordered from so far. Out first time at New China and are very happy! We ordered Won Ton Soup, Beef and Broccoli, House Egg Foo Young, and pork fried Rice. All very good; and nice portions, well packed for the trip home. Service was quick and friendly, prices very good. You can see the kitchen from the front counter, important to us, and was spotless back there. We will happily be back for more! read more

Recently moved to Ocala from South Florida and in search for that new go to Chinese joint. Well I think I've found my spot. Like 90% of Americans, I go straight for the General Tso's combo that typically comes with an egg roll. I'd say new China gets a solid 4.8 out of 5 on theirs. Crunchy chicken, tangy, garlicky sauce and a fresh hand rolled egg roll with pork and crunchy cabbage. I've got to say that the couple who runs the establishment are down to earth and friendly. We wound up talking for a good 15 minutes, not something you get get at your typical Chinese take out spot. Will definitely be back, keep up the great work. read more

Love this place. We just moved to Ocala. Met our new neighbors, Chen and Vanilla and his parents. Come to find out they have a restaurant. We went the other day just to support them. I used to have a very successful restaurant and know it's a very grueling business so I wanted to be supportive. We much to my advantage, the food was delicious. Was expecting Chinese food but got "really good' Chinese food. So I am happy to report that not only are they very nice neighbors but they have excellent customer service, very polite, willing to please and have GREAT Chinese food. Oh and their restaurant is CLEAN. Thank you Chen, Vanilla and the Parents for the great food, extra goodies and new friendship. You are our new Chinese restaurant. We also with you the best!!!! And btw, they are new owners at this restaurant. I have a feeling based on old reviews that the previous owners did not have the integrity that the new owners have. I love Chinese food, so I could not wait to get started eating some egg rolls and some of my other tasty favorite foods! I wanted to order the sweet & sour chicken, but I was told they didn't have it. So I decided to get egg rolls and some house special fried rice. After hearing they didn't have the sweet & sour chicken, I decided I better keep it simple. The egg rolls had more won ton than filling. They tasted gummy and the house special rice tasted like it was cooked in a rusty pan. I could actually taste the rust in the rice mixture! If I had not been headed out of town in a rush, I would have taken that nasty crap back for a full refund! But I did the next best thing, I tossed it in the trash! I hope my love for Chinese food has not been ruined by this New China YUCK! read more

Pleasantly surprised to find a delicious take out Chinese food in Ocala. I was in the area visiting a friend and we were craving Chinese food. I got the General Tso's chicken, roast pork lo mein, roast pork fried rice, egg rolls and chicken with garlic sauce. Everything was delicious and easily as good, if not better than Chinese food in the Northeast. My friend and I were very happy with the food and would definitely patron this place again. I have been searching for a place that can please my annoyingly picky palette since moving here and haven't found it until now. I always order the same complicated thing at every Chinese restaurant, and most of them miss something or just don't taste quite right. But New China completely exceeded my desires. Yelp is driving me nuts by saying they deliver. Almost none of the Chinese restaurants deliver and the one I found that did, sucked. This place as of this review DOES NOT DELIVER. I know this, if they did, I'd be eating from them several times a week. It's a typically small, clean place. Quiet and with 6 tables. Friendly and willing to work with me to make changes to suit my taste, to a point. I have tried six Chinese restaurants since coming to Ocala. Since my review on the other 5 would be below average or that they suck, I'm focusing on this one that doesn't. They've used fresh vegetables in every dish I've ordered. Most of the shrimp dishes use large shrimp and prepare them well. When I looked at other shrimp dishes, the man very professionally pointed out the few items where they use smaller shrimp. I order Szechuan Shrimp, Szechuan Beef, Pork Egg Foo Yung, Hot and Sour soup, Sweet and Sour chicken, Steamed, chicken wings and Fried dumplings and I may have forgotten something. Okay, the negative is that they, like every other Chinese restaurants here have fried shrimp that is the dried out breaded crap that you can buy at the supermarket. Tasteless, tough and a huge waste of money. I'm hoping to talk them into doing a trial of using the same batter they use on the chicken (but thicker) to make shrimp for me and maybe they'll try having it as a small special. I am pretty sure they will find them a hit. The positive, very fresh vegetables and pretty much everything on the menu that I have tried is freshly prepared and excellent. I have had dumplings in various locations all over Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, California and Nevada. Their dumplings are the best I have ever had. If you ever read about how a proper dumpling is made, it will mention that when you bite into it you need to be over a plate or a spoon because the wonderful liquid in the shell will drip and theirs does. It is flavorful and rich, perfectly bringing out the flavor of the meat filling. They use a super thin won ton wrapper or egg roll wrapper to make it. It makes a huge difference in emphasizing the flavor of the filling over the bland shell that holds it. With the thin layer the dumpling comes together and is wonderful. I like the fried over the steamed because it adds just the right touch of flavor to the shell and unlike many previous dumplings I have had; is not tough and chewy. That puts it over the top for an excellent treat. I totally love their dumplings. The dipping sauce they provide is a blend of soy sauce and sweetener (either sugar or maybe mirin) with maybe a hint of ginger. A small amount compliments the dumplings beautifully. Sweet and sour chicken is good. It's generic to the category and well done. Northerners note, it is not as thick a batter as we are used to and it is small chunks, but it is good. Pork Egg Foo Yung stands out from previous places I've had it, in that unlike most places they do not use the fat on the edge of the pork as their version of pork for the omelets. They use almost 100% lean pork. On the downside, it is the same mushy, nasty vegetables that are common in Ocala. The gravy they provide has a touch of 5 spice that would work well if the omelets were decent, but they're not. When I ordered my first shrimp with vegetables and every one since, the vegetables were fresh, they cook them so they are still firm and retain their vibrant color. Most places throw in things like broccoli at the very end and it is warmed but raw and super crunchy. Others cook it and it is mush. They have it at the perfect medium. The shrimp are large and there are 6 in an order. Large has 12, I think. Ask so you can be sure. I'd hate to set them up for complaints. Okay, here is where I am driving them nuts and it's because the hot and sour soup as they make it is not so hot and not so sour. I asked them to add more vinegar for me, more heat and (this is specific to me, more pork). I pay a bit more for the extra pork and it is really reasonable. I find that the version they make is a nice, mild soup, but I'm used to my hot and sour soup being hot and sour. They have very graciously and pleasantly adjusted my order to my taste each time and it is excellent. Full of julienned water chestnut (I think), mushrooms, tofu, carrots and pork. I may have missed listing some veggies, but I find it pretty packed. I find that it tastes even better reheated. As others have said, the portions size is large. If you want good to excellent Chinese food, hit this place up. Lol, I say good because I seriously take issue with the fried shrimp here and every other Chinese restaurant down here that I tried. If I can get them to batter the shrimp and not cook the egg foo young until the vegetables are mush, I'd say excellent every time. read more

Ate here yesterday. Rude service...when I asked for my soda was told "will give to you later", really! The place was dirty...I asked for something to wipe the table off with and was given napkins, when I asked for napkins with my meal was told " I gave you napkins". By this time I was getting irrated and told him "I used those napkins to wipe off the dirty table". Didn't eat the so-called chicken as I wasn't sure if that's what it was. TERRIBLE PLACE! With so many places to eat in Ocala I will never step foot in that dump again. I would have left if my neighbor hadn't wanted to try it and paid already.
