First time trying this place and by far the most delicious Thai food I've ever had! We came during lunch and I got the yellow curry and my co worker got the beef with oyster sauce. It was so tasty he licked the plate clean. Food was fresh and made to order. Absolutely delicious. We will be back at least once a week to try the other dishes on the menu. Cute little gem right in the heart of DI. read more

A local Tampa gem with fresh and flavorful options for lunch and dinner. It is a very small and unassuming storefront, and seating is limited, but it is definitely worth the wait. I recommend going earlier in the evening and being open to sitting either inside or outside. It is a two (maybe three?) person show: mom and daughter serve and cook. They openly communicate about spice levels, when modifications can be made (or not), and provide thoughtful recommendations. I enjoy their satay, panang curry, pad thai, and new khoa soi (pictured below): coconut curry with noodles and protein option. read more

The food and service were remarkable. I got the Penang curry soup with eggplant (it comes with rice). We also enjoyed the crispy spring rolls and the Thai Island fried rice. The complimentary tapioca pudding was delicious. We ended the meal with their homemade fried ice cream with a blueberry compote. read more

Thai Island is a classic DI spot and I'm so glad they survived the hurricane damage a few years back and have kept up the quality. The owners are so friendly and always seem grateful to have your business. We have been many times but went recently and tried the new chive dumplings, they were unlike anything I've ever had before! The pan seared ones had a nice char on the outside but then were so soft on the inside. I also got the pad kee Mao, one of my favorite Thai dishes, and my girlfriend got their new dish khoa soi which was a creamy coconut curry. Both were pretty spicy for us but delicious! The decor inside is so cool too and sitting out on the front porch and watching people go by on the DI main strip of businesses is fun. I'll always love Thai Island! read more

The boyfriend's choice for Thai for the price, however, it's missing the quality at all levels. I'm unsure how this place gets more than zero stars as it's the worst Thai food I've ever tried. It's tasteless & the quality is questionable/taste of old/odd flavor. It is not fresh. I would avoid. Many other good Thai places in the area. read more

**"Thai-rrific Bites in Every Dish!"** I really enjoyed the **off-the-beaten-path location**--tranquil and perfect for a relaxed meal. The food delivered a **solid Thai experience**: no fireworks, but definitely no regrets either. **Highlights:** The **green curry was excellent**--rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. The **spicy rice** stood out with just the right kick. **Room for improvement:** The **spring rolls** fell a bit short--lacking flakiness in the wrapper and could've used more filling. All in all, a **good spot for satisfying Thai flavors** without the hype. Would I return? For that curry, absolutely! - read more

We love Thai Island. We had a delightful dinner here before COVID and then ordered takeout from Thai Island all through the pandemic. Now, we ride our bikes over and eat on the beautiful patio. Our favorites are the following: Crispy spring rolls Satay (and their cucumber salad is amazing) Pad Thai with Tofu Penang curry with Tofu or Crispy Eggplant They have a lovely and well-priced wine menu too. read more

We were in the area to try out the infamous wine window at Buchette Spritz Bar and looking for a place to eat dinner. We found this restaurant off Google and decided to try it out. It was very busy (Saturday night around 7pm). For drinks, we got the cold nigori sake bottle (plenty for 2) and reasonably priced. For food, we tried the tom yum talae (seafood) soup, beef pad see ew, and squid Panang curry. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Would come back again! read more

I went to this restaurant and they were out of fresh rolls. Very disappointing!. The crab rangoon and the calamari had a nice batter which was good. I ordered the Thai Island rice and it was cold and tasteless. It tastes like oatmeal. I sent it back and got the pets to you and it was flavorless. I will never go back to this restaurant ever again. When it has the guy for a military discount he gave me an excuse then he would lose money. The funny thing is that he was in the Air Force and he still didn't give me a military discount. Thai Island is a Davis Island staple! Love coming here for a quick, reasonably priced lunch, or a good take out dinner. The place is small and cozy, and the service is quick and you feel like family. The food is also delicious and authentic. I love the panang curry and the pad thai. Definitely recommend this place for your Thai fix, any time of day! read more

After returning from Chiang Mai a few years ago, I never dreamed I'd find khao soi, the spicy coconutty soup endemic to northern Thailand, in my own backyard. I thought I'd have to go to New York or some other foodie paradise to enjoy it once again. Well! Imagine my surprise when I stopped by Thai Island for lunch last week and there it was! I'm not sure if it's just a seasonal special promoted that day or will be a permanent addition to the menu. I was a little cautious though. One place in Chiang Mai served it SO spicy, it set my hair on fire. The server at Thai Island reassured me theirs was made for American tastes, although it def had a little spice to it. Enjoy! read more

The ambiance is simple at this small Thai restaurant. If you want the chance to try some authentic Thai food that tastes homemade, this is the place. Their menu is by QRC code, and it is nicely described for each plate. The portions are perfect for the price. Great flavor and value with the ability to try a few different items. I had lunch with my mom and sister, so we decided to share three salads for our table. We got the Nam Sod that had Minced pork, ginger, cilantro, spring onion, shallots, tossed with peanuts, and chili lime dressing. It was light, and the whole peanuts were toasted and crunchy surrounded by whole pieces of romaine lettuce. The Pla Koong (Shrimp Salad) had 4 large Grilled shrimps, shallots, lemon grass, shredded lime leaf, minced cilantro, and onion tossed with a homemade chili lime dressing. This was my favorite because it was on the spicy side and had so much flavor from the lemongrass. An off the menu item we ordered was a roasted Japanese Eggplant Salad with steamed Calamari rings. The cold broth was light and had lots of red onion slices, which also had large Romain lettuce leafs in the bowl. They no longer have lettuce wraps on their menu, but these 3 salads were served with enough romaine lettuce to be a good substitution. Technically, there was no salad dressing, but the cold broth at the bottom of the bowl was so different and delicious for each of the salads. I would definitely come back again, but maybe at an off dining hour as there is no parking at this place, and it is quite difficult to find any parking on the street. read more

Dinner time on a weeknight and I sat outside right away with no wait. Food came out fast with no mistakes. In my opinion the pad thai could stand to be less sweet. Otherwise the quality of the food was great. Bigger portions would be welcomed for the price. Bonus points for walkability from the hospital. read more

We were down on Davis Islands to see conditions after the recent hurricanes. Our favorite dog beach is still there. Checked out the downtown area to see if there were any restaurants open, as we wanted to support local business. Only a few opened back up and Thai Island was one of them. First time here. Nice little place with friendly owner and waitress. Food was delicious. Wife had Panang Curry which she enjoyed. I had Pad See Ew which was very tasty. A little pricy, but again, wanted to support local businesses as they recover. Encourage others to do the same. read more

Let me start by saying......being from Chicago, maybe I'm spoiled...but pick a dish and we have some of the best anywhere..... that said....the dish I order(host recommendation) included shrimp, chicken and ham....the first indicator was only 1 small piece of shrimp in the whole dish.... It was "good" but not convinced it was fresh, rice was ok, upside was cashews....but overall......ok... read more

Great location on David island, limited parking but plenty of near by street parking. Very nice staff. Got the panang curry, drunken noodles, fried tofu abs corn fritters and of course Thai tea! Too bad ... I waisted more hard earned money tonight , getting dinner out . I ordered the app. Sampler - crab Rangoon which did not remotely taste like the usual crab cream cheese filling , corn fritters which were greasy and had no flavor , chicken satay, which was very dry , and spring rolls which were edible, only because I was hungry . The coconut soup smelled bad and when I returned it , because I couldn't eat it, wouldn't take it back or exchange it . Really ? A tiny portion of $5 soup? Who does that ? Sorry , not sorry ... just being honest . I'll keep searching for the best Thai food in Tampa Bay , because I love it ! read more

This was my second time getting Thai Island for takeout (have yet to dine-in) and this was my second time ordering the Chicken Panang. Apparently I forgot that Thai Island goes heavy on the peanuts in their Panang recipe. This threw me off as it is not a common ingredient in traditional Panang curries (at least from my experience ordering it out and making it myself at home). I ordered it medium spicy and that aspect was perfectly on par. The Chicken with Rice soup had an unusual, somewhat bland flavor, but the redeeming quality was that it was chock FULL of chicken, rice, sprouts, bamboo shoots - see attached pic for evidence. Definitely worth the price of $3.50! The restaurant itself is quite cute and looked like a pretty cozy spot to bring a date, but upon closer inspection of some of the walls (just the area where my eyes defaulted to settle while I waited on my order), it may be time for Thai Island to undergo a bit of an interior facelift to help minimize the appearance of aged/unkempt areas of the establishment...in no way, shape or form do I not recommend dining at Thai Island for lunch or dinner, this was just an observation based on the duration of time I spent in one particular area. Extra points for the gentleman on the phone who provided an accurate wait time estimate. I arrived early but that was as a "just in case my food is prepared fast and ends up sitting for a while" measure. I definitely plan to try out their red curry on my next visit! read more

Thai Island - a person sitting at a table with a plate of food and a bottle of beer - Thai Near Me - Tampa, Florida

It's such a joy to stumble across a Thai restaurant as flavorful as this one. Located next to a bank on the main drag on Davis Islands in Tampa, this restaurant has the most intensely flavored food! Not spicy hot, just full-flavored with delightful spices. The Tom Kha Gai soup is much more flavorful than the typical Thai restaurant. And the Pad See Ew was so delightfully seasoned with an intricate blend of exotic spices that I can't wait to return with my lovely lady! I imagine very few people drive to Davis Islands, except for Tampa General Hospital or other business, but if you'd like to experience phenomenal Thai flavor, go there and check this place out! I bet you'll love it! read more

Amazing little cozy Thai place on Davis Island. We started with an appetizer that had a sampling of corn cakes, spring rolls, satay and crab rangoon. The crab rangoon was awesome and there were a variety of sauces provided with the appetizer to try out. Next up was the chicken red curry. It was simply perfect -- creamy, spicy, and full of peppers and bamboo shoots! Wish there was more chicken in it but it was still tasty anyway. The service was kind of slow but I attributed it to this gigantic party that sat right next to us, so things were kind of slow. Really that's my only complaint about the place. I will definitely be back to try the green curry and get the crab rangoon again! read more

Please the rating is for an overall. After reading the reviews and asking around town, this place came highly recomended. But my experience was not good, and first impressions are everything!! I have been going to Thai restaurants for a little while now, and this one have many dissapointments. Parking was not easy, I managed to park a block away. Not It was not rush hour lunch, this was mid afternoon, they were still busy. Asked for Thai Tea, as usual and almost received regular Tea, had to confirm with a second server. (maybe didn't enunciate enough) Got rejected very harsh when asked for the summer rolls with no shrimp. Now, if this roll is fresh, substituting the shrimp for Tofu, or just not adding the shrimp, is very simple and even cheaper! As you can see on my picture the Pad See Ew was very small amount and the plate was broken in 3 different places. The dish was good overall however the plate was not! Three big broken pieces on a plate is not safe on the health standards. This is the first time I leave a Thai restaurant hungry! The Tom Yum was mild to no spice and super small also. The spring roll was over fried and no taste either Yes this place is highly over rated! read more
