Pretty mediocre Chinese-American food. This review is for delivery via Door Dash. Plum Tree was an add-on restaurant after my main order from Manila Eats. The food from Manila Eats was picked up quickly, but there was a delay in getting the food from Plum Tree. Not sure why. We ordered the pork fried rice, the steamed dumplings, and the steamed broccoli. Nothing was good. The dumplings were too sweet, and no one in my family liked them (other than the dog). The fried rice was overly salty. And the broccoli was undercooked. Only the broccoli could be fixed by me by additional cooking but everything else was irredeemable. The food is good sometimes. It wasnt the last time, it was pretty dry but the portion size (back then) approx 6 months ago was normal. I gave them another try and the food was good, the beef noodles came in a bowl that was soo small 6 inches across and about 1 inch deep with 2 egg rolls that were about the thickness as a kindergarden pencil WTHs going on? They were just two fries on steroids! Just over $13 bucks for a serving that should have been about $7 and sold as an appetizer. I'm over them, NOT GOING BACK! I'll drive further to Kennedy Blvd and get a dish worthy of my travel and a tip -even though i'm making the drive- Plus, they're not even nice or even kosher towards you when you enter their business - another Turn-Off. Also, the front dining area is never clean, its just... just an entry way, I wouldn't call it a dining area, I wouldn't dine there. And shouldn't that little girl who's always running the register be at home enjoying little girl things like the internet, her little friends, and studying? Absolutely the most incompetently run Chinese restaurant it has been my misfortune to patronize. I have ordered from here for years but the recent change in ownership has destroyed this place as a choice for me. Usually it's just the annoyance at bad management. Missed orders, unanswered phone calls and menu items being "sold out". Today however, they reached a pinnacle of incompetence. I placed an order through the website http://tampaplumtree.com/. I received a confirmation that the restaurant had received my order. I ordered pick up rather than delivery as they are easily overwhelmed with delivery orders and refuse to take any. After waiting more than thirty minutes for an update through the website, I attempted to call the restaurant only to be greeted by the familiar busy signal. Repeatedly. Finally, I decided to drive to the restaurant in hopes of getting the food I had ordered. As I stood in line behind a gentleman who clearly had a problem with his order, an Uber driver walked in, dropped off a bag containing some other poor soul's dinner, and said "you gave me the wrong address" and walked out. The server seemed uninterested. After serving the two gentlemen before me in line the counter-person then went into the kitchen to make fried rice for someone who wasn't even the store. After finished this task, I was able to ask about my order, which quite clearly had not even been started. She checked a printed paper and told me there were "no dumplings". I told her to cancel my order and left. Given the mediocre quality of the food, it seems that customer service would be an important thing for this restaurant. Clearly, it is not. I have been ordering from plum tree for years now. I love these little locally owned places, they always give you plenty of food for the price, the flavor is absolutely awesome and best of all, they are one of the few places that can actually cook chicken and steak so its not chewy or like rubber. Which is the biggest reason I keep ordering from here. I always get the pepper steak highly modified, and not once, have they ever gotten it wrong, and to me, that's amazing! Honest review for my first time. I'll try not to beat them up to much haha.... Let's go good first: food and taste is great! Crab ragoons are great! Bad: Portions are meh for the price (explained later). I always eat Chinese over in soho but I happened to be in Davis island one time tonight. I ordered our usual general Tso, shrimp and broccoli combos. When I called to order everything seemed to be fine, I ordered the food and told her I'd like lo mein with my shrimp combo, she said "ok, thank you. 10 minutes" and hangs up....typical Resturant right? LOL Anywho when I arrive; the total somehow became $30!!! For two combos; later to realize when I get home and look at their menu....they didn't bother to ask what size plate I'd wanted; which mind you....the plates we received were small for them to be $12 in which I get them for $8-$9 for much larger sizes elsewhere. Then I also realized on the website that it was a $4 up charge for lo mein in which she didn't bother to notify me about or else I'd stick with rice!. We could've went to the Mexican Resturant next door for much more food if we had known I'd be paying $30+ for two small combos. We are more disappointed in the lack of communication with the customers, hanging up the phone almost immediately without evening repeating order or price/upcharges. I have to admit, I was skeptical about ordering from here after reading the negative reviews (at the time there were only nine reviews). We are so glad we gave it a chance. It tastes like the Chinese food from back home. Everything was fantastic! Maybe they changed their staff, because it was really THAT good. Egg rolls were crispy. Wonton Soup devoured by the little ones. Fried dumplings were the best we have found in Tampa. Roast park lo mein was excellent- the noodles, the sauce and the pork. Delivery was fast. Great take out Chinese with a fairly wide variety of choices at good prices. They have large portions. Food ingredients seem fresh, cooked in plain site. It is a great niche location with much more potential. The inside is desperately in need of trim and molding repairs. Clean and paint the walls. Clean the window. Take down the random paper posters and menus. Upgrade the floors and give the whole place a deep clean. That would make a huge difference. All could be accomplished in less than a day. AND try to add some personality with some basic manners. A"thank you" and a welcoming demeanor would go a long way. Translates to more sales $$ and tips in the restaurant business. The delivery people are friendly and the TGH staff use this place to order from all the time! Like any traditional Chinese food place, the white rice is tasteless and must be forced down the throat like a five-year-old's butt down a rusty park slide.
