Family owned and operated this place is one of the best Chinese noodle spots in the college area of Tampa. It's run by a lovely couple and they're always friendly and inviting. It's also nice because they explained the menu options a lot more thoroughly if you are a first timer. I prefer to order the braised beef noodle with the thin or flat noodles. The broth is very good very well, balanced, and not overly greasy signifying that they're not using different types of oils and MSG in their foods. read more

After-work meal with two co-workers, hardly anyone there at 5pm on a Monday evening. We warmed up with takoyaki, chicken skewers. beef skewers, and pork burger. The takoyaki were crispy on the outside, soft and savory inside. The skewers were also just a tad crispy, with a strong cumin flavor to them. The pork burger wasn't my favorite. I prefer big pieces of juicy fatty pork belly to the tiny little lean cubed pork here. Our mains were both showstoppers. The stir-fried wide hand pulled noodles were perfectly chewy and coated in the most savory broth/gravy/sauce. Enough meat and veggies in there to contribute their flavors and textures without taking away from the star of the show, the noodles. Came in around 12:30 on a Saturday and was able to be seated immediately. We were a table of 7 and our party (3) arrived to secure a table before our other 4 guests arrived. There was one other large group there when we arrived. Staff was super friendly although service was slow. May have been attributed to the other large party however it was even hard to get a drink refill. We had to walk up to the register area to ask for refills. While we waited we ordered the soup dumplings which comes with 8 pc. This was the first time ever having and wow were they so delicious! They were fresh and juicy! Highly recommend these. For lunch entrees we ordered the chicken stir fry hand noodle (daughter), braised beef noodle (hubs) and the chicken ma la pot (me). The food took forever to come out but when it did, it was hot and fresh and delicious! I absolutely loved my ma la pot. I ordered not spicy and with no mushrooms or fungus. The veggies were so tender and the sauce was amazing. Daughter loved her noodle dish also. Hubs wasn't that crazy about his soup and I thought it was ok. I thought this would be much better since it's coming from a restaurant. Nope. Only good thing is now I know my husband likes it for future reference. LZL fell into that category of excellence. I ordered Beef Stir-Fry Handmade Noodles. This version of Beef Lo Mein was one of the best I've tasted. Each layer of flavor in the dish was at a perfect level. Instead of one flavor being over-bearing, all were in a brilliant balance. The sesame oil was subtle...the red chili flakes delivered pleasant flavor & a tiny bit of heat...the noodles were fresh & cooked with precision...the beef resembled thin strips of lean roast beef...& the small veggies offered great texture. Lan Zhou is one of the few exceptional restaurants improve on their food from my previous visit. I am applauding their restaurant still maintains a good price with good quantity of food. In fact, their taste is way better than they just open the door. It is big improvement. This restaurant is about 4.5 stars to my book now. I few I fill my stomach compare to my last visit. The soup broth also getting better. Quantity also improved. All this is good especially during pandemic. I can see a lot customers in the restaurant. This is a good sign. My family and I randomly stumbled into this eatery on a Monday evening--we were not disappointed. My toddlers had the chicken stir fry my hubby ordered the shrimp stir fry and I got the crispy pork chop rice bowl. For appetizers we got the shrimp skewers, beef skewers (we didn't care for) and spring rolls. All of our entrees we hot, fresh and flavorful. The workers were very nice and accommodating the place was clean with a mellow atmosphere--JUST DON'T GO IN THE BATHROOM. The toilet was clogged and did not flush, and the rest you can imagine...it seemed to be the only place they left unkept. Other than that 9/10. My hubby and I both agreed we would come back and try something else. TIP: If you are unsure of what to order on the menu, they have a digital screen by the register that shows a picture of what each dish looks like. I grabbed takeout from here, so knowing that I drove 30 minutes home and the noodles were still amazing is incredible. I tried a variety of things so now I know what I should and shouldn't order to have the best experience. Braised Beef Rice Bowl - Pass. The sauce was good, but I find the beef to be a bit tough. The reason I love this place is for the noodles so anything without the noodles is a no go in the future for me. Roast Duck Lanzhou Noodles - Get. The duck was amazing and fatty. The noodles are the best thing on the menu. The broth wasn't too salty and really contributed to the dish overall. If they had a duck hand pulled noodle dish I would get that every time, but alas they don't. Beef Stir-Fry Hand Noodles - Get. If it's between this and the Lanzhou Noodles I have to weigh this one slightly above. I love the noodles. Like I mentioned before, the beef is a little tough, but the noodles make up for it. Beef and Chicken Skewers - Pass. They were tough and slightly spicy (I don't like spicy). I asked for it to not be spicy, so that was probably their attempt as making it mild. On the menu you can see the fire sign next to it. I would definitely recommend coming here. I see on their menu they have an option for extra duck and extra braised egg. I should attempt to get the Beef Stir Fry Hand Noodles with extra duck (can I do that if it had no duck to begin with?) and extra braised egg. But if they don't allow that, then future Christina, go with the Roast Duck Lanzhou Noodles with extra duck, extra braised egg. You're welcome. read more

Came here for lunch with a friend, and we both enjoyed it. Nice decor, good service, and good food. We ordered the Chef special LA MA Pots, Seafood and the Chicken. They came with a side of rice, but since I was in a noodle restaurant, I requested a substitute of noodles. The Seafood pot stated it was spicy, but only mildly. I used the chili oil on the table, but I will caution you to the very high heat level. To give you an idea, it's twice as hot as Sriracha. The ingredient mix in the pots were wonderful. It included fresh lotus root, fresh wood ear mushrooms, dried tofu, potato slices, zucchini, carrot, large shrimp, scallops, and krab stick. I would definitely order again, and yes for my friend's Chicken Pot too, but after I try a Stir-Fried noodle dish first. read more

This food was amazing. Best cucumber salad I have ever had, best pork dumplings I have ever had, tender and juicy duck, and the chicken stir fry noodles were amazing.
