3 stars feels like too few but 4 feels like too many. The friendliness of the staff and the speed of the service is spot on! And I love that they brought me a mini appetizer of soup and a spring roll, free of charge (I believe). That was a great touch and I truly appreciate it!! I ordered the gyoza and squid fried rice. The timing between the appetizer, gyoza, and entree were just about perfect and everything was served fresh and hot, just as it should be. So why 3 stars? Because while all 3 dishes were fresh and properly prepared, they all lacked in the flavor department. It was not bad food. It was just a bit bland and boring. I would (and likely will) 100% eat here again for the service and price alone and the hope that next time they will bring the flavor!!! read more

Thai food is one of my favorite past times. Rouen Thai has interesting decor and quick service. The red curry is good with a decent amount of chicken. They didn't give a brown rice option and the rice portion is small. All in all, I'd order Rouen Thai again but ask for more rice next time. read more

Right here in south Tampa Rouen Thai has definitely gone down hill. We ordered the crab rangoons, Pan yang curry and Rouen fried rice. The rangoons were pasty on the inside. The Rouen fried rice was terrible and it seemed like it was leftovers put with a weird flavored rice. The best was the Pan yang curry. It was full of flavor but the chicken was super dry. The girl at the counter was borderline rude. I asked about spicy mustard and her response was "no we are a Thai restaurant ". She was young and is still learning customer service skills. For a $50 tab with tip I have other places I can go to. The inside is nice looking and had plenty of open seats at diner time. So keep that in mind as well I guess. I'll try it one more time in the future just to be fair because they have been good in the past. read more

Rude, unappreciative and mean waitresses- worse service It's sad how this place has become. I used to be a regular, will never come back. I dislike leaving negative reviews, but I came here at least 4 times before putting this review, same attitude just different evening. Last night being the worse. One can't be more rude to a client. They greet you with " our kitchen is very busy" I sat near the door and watched both said to each party that came in.. TRUST me they don't know busy, they are never that busy, and every time food came quickly. Last night my friend and I came to eat and we asked for simple stuff, the way the waitress responded is like we are bothering them and we need to hurry up, choose you and leave them alone.. rudeness gets under my skin. It's sad because the food is good, but Tampa has way too many good restaurantes for the waitresses to think they can get away we treating patrons the way they do. I give them a few more months. I asked politely if "the most rude" of both was the owner " NO" the other responded. WOW.. if that that was true, I hope the owner finds better help. These waitress act like they are MISERABLE. Just a suggestion - find new people before your business goes down. OR if your main business is take out and you do not want people dining-make a sign "'Kitchen is very busy today" followed by no dining in. It wasn't the worst, it was far from the best... I had pad thai to go. I asked for medium to spicy and got zero spice. It was like a 1 out of 10 spice level. The flavor wasn't bad, but quite subtle. Yeap 3 stars! This was my goto Thai restaurant in South Tampa but I wasn't too thrilled with the food on this visit. Positives: * Love the atmosphere inside the restaurant, beautifully adorned with gold plated sculptures and paintings. Very inviting. * Staff is very attentive, they checked on us and refilled our drinks regularly. * They have a good array of Thai dishes, customize the heat level according to your liking. * House fried rice was great. Negatives: * There isn't enough parking available. EVER! This restaurant shares parking with the Italian restaurant next door to them. * Food was ok. I ordered the green curry with chicken. It was lacking flavor, I have had better versions at other places. Plus not enough chicken, it was mostly coconut curry. The prior positive reviews were the primary reason for choosing this place for a late Sunday night dinner. Walking into the restaurant, it was pretty dead and I was surprised that I needed to wait for the staff to clear a table off. We received our menus and waters only to find a small bug in the glass! When we brought it to the waitress's attention, there was no reaction what so ever - like this was no big deal! No sympathetic apology or anything. Wait, does this happen so often that this is the norm here!?!? Gosh, I hope not! She took the water with the bug away and I asked for 2 bottled waters. She returned with my request, only for me to realize the water (or bottle) smelled like fish. :-| This wasn't off to a very good start... I ordered the Siam Chicken and Thai Chicken Fried Rice. While the food came out at a nice, hot temperature and the spiciness was spot on, there was nothing about the flavor of the food that left me wanting more and I found the portions to be on the smaller side for dinner. I thought the service was a bit off putting and was also charged for the bottled waters (the least they could do was comp it due to their lack of cleanliness). Will I be returning? The apps tasted like they were from the frozen section of Publix. It didn't taste authentic to me. The chicken and rice soup was bland and needed more flavor. I'd give it a 2/10. The fried app puffs had a weird texture to them and I didn't enjoy the way it tasted. I'd give that a 0/10. The pork dumplings were decent and I'd give that a solid 3.5/10. Spicy!!!! Never been to a good Thai food restaurant and this place is a shooting star compared to them all. Peaceful and quiet. Great place to sit, have a conversation with friends on late lunch during a swing shift. I tried the chicken drunken noodle. Spicy and delicious. I needed just around 5-6 cups of water to finish this dish. Maybe I'm just soft with Thai hot spice. Don't get me wrong, the Thai spice was a good heat. Rouen Thai Restaurant is located off West Gandy, 2 blocks east of the Publix and Target on Gandy in South South Tampa. Rouen Thai featured some great authentic Thai decor by the entrance and throughout the restaurant, lit up with holiday lights, to create a festive atmosphere. Rouen Thai features a large sushi bar and has lots of sushi options. Unfortunately Rouen Thai only has 4 booths and all the booths were taken when we visited. However we were able to take a non booth table without a wait. The parking lot was full yet the restaurant had 4 open tables so I see parking potentially being an issue here if it gets any busier. Happy hour included 2 for $3 domestic brews which was a plus! We got the Alaskan Roll, Steak Pad Thai ordered Thai hot, and the Garlic Pepper Chicken. Unfortunately the Steak Pad Thai that I ordered to be Thai hot was not spicy at all. Unfortunately, the Rouen Thai's spice rack only had 3 spices instead of the traditional 4 thai spices and was missing my favorite Red Garlic Chili paste! I like it so much I even have it at home! If I can stock it, they should be able too as well. Currently Rouen Thai is offering Sriracha as a substitute for the Red Chili Garlic paste. While I do enjoy Sriracha. I enjoy the red chili garlic paste more with Thai Food. Unfortunately, I couldn't spice up the pad thai quite to my liking. The Garlic Pepper Chicken didn't have enough pepper spice and came out with a bit too intense Garlic flavor in a garlic soup of sorts and also was not the best. However, I must say the Alaskan sushi roll was top notch with the tempura salmon, avocado, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and crispy Japanese bread crumbs! The wait for food was a little long at 20 minutes but our server gave good Service and a couple refills on our drinks. The Thai tea was a little too sweet for my tastes and they offer good drink specials which is nice. I'd come back for the Sushi, just not the Thai Food because they're lacking the proper spices. I moved to South Tampa almost 8 years ago. This little gem has been my Thai go-to ever since. A few other places have come and gone but Rouen Thai has been consistently good. I probably eat here once a month. The Pad Thai is good, but their curry options are my favorite items on the menu. Pro tip: Even if you like hot food, getting "Thai hot" will basically make you want to die...twice. read more

If not for Groupon, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't know this place existed. Though I am glad I tried it out. First off, the atmosphere of this place is pretty neat. Loved the decor. We started off with the Rouen Thai Sampler. Filled with 2 of each: Egg Roll, Thai Spring Roll, Shrimp Tempura, Fried Wonton & Crab Rangoon. All was good, but our personal favorites (and suggestions for single appetizers) would definitely be getting the Spring Rolls & Fried Wontons. For the main meal, I ordered the Chicken Garlic and Black Pepper Entree. It wasn't out of this world, but it was pretty good. Would probably get something with a little more flavor next time. The boyfriend ordered Chicken Pad Thai. I tried some, and honestly wish I had ordered it instead- best I've had in the area. Though be prepared when choosing your spicy level. I was thankful my meal was medium, because the Pad Thai was ordered hot and after two bites my nose was instantly running. Will definitely be returning to try more menu options. read more

I went to Rouen Thai for lunch. ("Rouen" means wooden house by the way.) It doesn't look like much outside, but they did a pretty good job decorating the place, trying to make it look like a traditional Thai wooden house (except for the ceiling, they should do something about that). The staff was also dressed in Thai attire. (Just a side note: some of the waiters and waitresses weren't Thai though.) Overall the atmosphere was very pleasant. I went there not expecting much, but my friend and I were so hungry we decided to give it a try. It was actually pretty good. The lunch entrees come with soup and an egg roll. I had som thum (papaya salad) and Gai Pad Prig (chicken with chili, bell peppers, onions, ginger, and green beans). The food presentation was nice. I would have liked more rice with my dish though. (The waitress did give me more at no additional cost.) I've had better and I've had worse, that's why I gave it 3 stars. I'm Thai, so I have higher expectations than others would for Thai food. It was decent though. I'll keep you posted if I find a really good Thai restaurant in Tampa. However, if I'm in that area again (Gandy) I'll definitely go back. read more
