I don't usually post reviews of restaurants and if I do it's most always positive, but I feel this has to be shared. First off, I am a huge fan of Thai Hut, I've been many times and would eat their fresh spring rolls and red curry every single day if I could. Last month I got the fried veggie rolls and bit down on something extremely hard, it was a chunk of metal cooked into the rolls. It was about 1/4" x 1/4" and 1/16" thick, large enough that my tooth was still sore the next day. I quietly told the waitress and she took the veggie rolls off of the bill. I ate my pho and happily left, assuming it was just a crazy accident. The other night I got takeout red curry with fried tofu and found MORE METAL in my food!! I was watching a movie hardly paying attention to the curry, good thing I looked down because I would have sliced my mouth open. I ziplocked the tofu twisty metal shard and brought it in just so they were aware because that is super dangerous and there's no way I'm the only one getting metal in my food, right?! I quietly pulled the waitress to the side to show her away from customers. She wasn't even shocked this time, she said they are all aware!!! "Unfortunately that happens. You know when metal gets old and starts breaking and flaking? Our steamer basket that we use to cook all of the veggies in is old and we haven't found a new one that properly fits into the pot, but we're looking for one." WTF?!?! Get a new steamer basket! Cook the veggies a different way! I didn't even know what to say. She gave me the option of a refund or a free meal next time, I chose the refund. There's no way I am going to keep going back to what was one of my favorite restaurants if they are knowingly cooking metal into their food. Now I'm worried about what else goes down in that kitchen. After the closure and reopening of my previous favorite Thai location in Redding, I was encouraged to give this place a try...what a blessing! Those that have seen my reviews know I LOVE Thai food; additionally, I'm a Vegan. Finding quality vegan fare in this part of California is tough, though I will say the Thai food in this area is, strangely, very good. I travel frequently on business and have tried Thai food from coast to coast. I find local flare in Thai spots very frequently, but few times has it been as prevalent as it is here! When I eat the veganized Thai dishes here, I feel like I'm tasting the a fusion of flavors that combine traditional Thai with local taste points. Notes of ginger seem higher, which is a favorite spice for patrons in Redding, and hints of cilantro (a California favorite) touch so many dishes. The Pho here is other worldly...among the best I've ever had. The portion is appropriate, the flavor is amazing, and the add-ins are regional and flavorful. The digs are a little small, but the cramped feeling is a small price to pay for such incredible food! read more

Drunken noodles are my favorite. They aren't afraid of the spice. Don't ask for spicy unless you can handle it.

Very very disappointed today! This is a first as we have always enjoyed their food. My daughter and I ordered separate meals. My plate came first and my daughter's didn't come until at least 10 minutes later. I ordered a spinach/tofu dish with peanut sauce and my daughter ordered a curry dish. My plate was loaded with fresh spinach ( I assumed it was supposed to be cooked) and there was so much peanut sauce on it that it wasn't edible! I tried scraping off the sauce and it just couldn't be done! When I complained to our server, her response was, " yeah, people usually order the peanut sauce on the side!! Nothing more said! I left a plate2/3 full behind! My daughter's curry was so spicy that it too was not edible. When we asked for some coconut milk to try and dilute it, it didn't come until 10 minutes later and only came then because I had to get up and ask again for the milk! Very disappointed!! Generally I would give a place a second chance but the customer service was terrible. This was a first but it's also going to be time to look else where for Thai food. This has always been one of my favorite Thai places in town! It's small, but the food is great!

After traveling through Thailand I was craving Thai food. We normally would go to Champa's, which is good even according to our friends from Thailand. The service is great! The servers were very attentive and friendly. They explained what was on the menu (even though we were fairly familiar with Thai food) was patient when my wife was not sure what she wanted to order. Our drinks were never empty and they continually checked on us. The place is small so it may not be a good idea for a large party. There is an outside seating area which can probably accommodate up to 20 people (a few tables), but it was getting cold at night so it was a bit uncomfortable. However, when a table opened inside, they were more than happy to move us to a more comfortable place. I ordered the Pumpkin Curry (With chicken) and it was good. I compared it to what I've had from Champa's, Thailand and a few other Thai restaurants in the Bay Area and I would say this was average. I asked for medium heat and that's what I got. I would say that the dish at Champa's is a bit better than this one. My wife ordered the eggplant as well as the Tomka soup, which I tasted. The soup was "ok" with me but my wife really liked it. However, the eggplant was incredible. I really liked it and it was much better than the ones Champa's serves. Over all, this restaurant will give you a good experience. Service was above average and the food is as well. We will definitely come back and try more items on the menu. read more

Solid Thai Food in Redding, CA? You bet! The Thai Hut is not the easiest (or hardest) location to get to for my I-5 peeps that are traveling north or south on I-5 between Oregon/Washington and points south. The Thai Hut is on Hartnell, off Churn Creek, and about 3/4 mile east of I-5 as the crow flies. Your GPS can get you there if your driving and have a hankering for some good Thai. The place is an a small building with about 10 or so inside tables, and 6-8 outdoor tables on the patio. Outdoor seating is great if its not 110 in the summer or 30 in the winter. The place is tucked between the Harbor Freight and a Dry Cleaner on the south side of Hartnell. The staff is super friendly, and knows the menu and specials inside and out. So, what's good here you ask? I would say that everything I have ordered on my half dozen visits has been good to excellent. Some of my favorites: Pad Thai (Go Spicy), Pho, Yellow Curry Chicken, Green Curry, Fresh Shrimp Spring Rolls with Thai Peanut Sauce, Fried Egg Rolls, Drunken Noodles. This place truly is a hole in the wall. I will say that if the aesthetics of freshly painted walls, and modern flooring and furniture are important to you, maybe pass on this place. If you don't particularly care about appearances, and can handle a hole in the wall type place with good food, this place is for you. One cool thing that they have at Thai Hut is the "Spice Tray", so you can spice up your food to the max if you like it hot & spicy. The tray has the Red Pepper Flake Spices, the Chili Oil, Hot Mustard and assortment of spices that will burn you inside and out. I send that tray in the direction of the wife, because she is the hottie! I have ordered food to go from here, and they are well equipped to send you on your way with Thai to go, with all the appropriate containers, plastic forks, spoons, knives, etc. Parking can be a bit of a challenge during the "Lunch Rush" in the Redding Metro area, but don't stress too bad, as the parking lot extends around to the back, and some of the neighboring businesses have large paved parking lots. If you are in Redding, and in the mood for Thai Food, I can definitely recommend that you stop by the Thai Hut. read more

Went here from the good reviews. This place is pretty packed but can't say it stands out or going here again. Not because of the staff but more to do with a sanitary issue. We were sitting at a pretty occupied table with flys. While we ordered, a cockroach casually started walking towards another table. The staff was graciously trying to eliminate it by stepping on it making a loud snapping pop noise then proceeded to explain they came from the outside. Nice to know that they were not raised inside. While I'm still typing this, flys are just landing on myself and other places. The food was a bit salty while the Thai tea is very syrupy. I had to dilute a bit with water Overall I'm glad others are enjoying this place as the servers are good. If they can just make a bit more effort in making things more sanitary it would be very nice. read more

It was a little hard to find, but once we got there, it was worth it! We were craving Thai so we read the reviews and looked at pictures of a few places near our hotel. They also have health ratings and this one had the best score on Trip Advisor. I had the Yellow Curry, because people said it was so good. It was just right with regards to spice. Our server said none of them are really spicy until you tell them how much spice you want. It was a generous and,tasty portion with lots of chicken. I also had the crab cheese wonton. They were more dense than I was expecting but they were tasty. My husband had the red curry, with lots of spice and he loved it. We both left too full for comfort! This place has delicious food for a reasonable price! I've been going here every time I come to Redding and have been making my way through each of their curries. None have been disappointing yet. The staff are nice, but could be more efficient. This last time I visited, no one came by to close my ticket out for at least 10minutes. The restaurant isn't that big to overlook a table like that. I do think they are trying to fix this. They seem to have hired new staff, but they seem to need a lot of instruction still. This restaurant was highly recommended by locals and there was a good amount of people there when we arrived. Our experience was dissapointing, the pineapple fried rice was so salty that it made us sick for the rest of the day and through the night. The pineapple pieces were huge and the tofu was barely cooked, their was no real yellow curry flavor like there should be. The noodle dishes we asked for were made with what seemed like extra mushroom even though we asked for NO mushroom. I feel that maybe the restaurant owners have catered to a lot of local people who do not know what authentic Thai food is or have little tolerance for the flavors of thai food. Instead they are getting this watered down version and they seem content with that. It's sad. We have since tried Champa Garden which was much better. read more

4 stars for the great customer service. Staff were friendly and helpful. One staff member even complimented my ridiculous shirt, calling it "Cute" (a gingerbread man sitting in a glass of milk, chillin'). The Pad Thai was ok, but not great. Although, I may attribute that to me getting it to go, and not adding Hoisin, chili, and other things. The Fried Rice and Thai Tea were delicious. We were passing through Redding on our way from Portland to SF Bay Area and stopped for gas and lunch. We used Yelp to find this place and it was outstanding. It's a little off the beaten path and had to use GPS to find it but it was well worth it. I had Spicy Chicken Wings and THai Beef Salad - both outstanding! Wings were spicy with a sweet/hot garlic glaze - sticky but good. The beef slices were tender and the greens were very fresh and the dressing was a good balance of sweet/sour/spicy! Portions were generous! My wife had the Spicy Basil Eggplant and she loved it. If we're ever coming through Redding, again, we will, definitely, stop here for a meal. It was so good that we got an order of Pad Thai to go and took it home and had it for dinner that night! It too was very good. I was a bit surprised though - no bean sprouts in the Pad Thai. We ate here on our way to Oregon a few weeks back. This was our first regular meal after 3 months on keto. I am super happy with our choice, this place was just out of this world. The staff was super friendly and greeted us the moment we came in. They brought water to our table almost immediately; it was really welcomed on that super hot day. The portions are large, so next time my wife and I will be sharing one main with an extra side of rice. We shared 2 dishes: Thai Green Curry and the Drunken Noodles. Both of them were fantastic. The curry was refreshing with so many levels of flavor, they definitely put a lot of work into this recipe. The drunken noodles were well seasoned, evenly coated in the sauce and they got the noodle to topping ratio just right. Both of them had chicken as the protein and it was cooked to perfection, super tender and flavorful. Whenever I go through Redding again I will be eating here. read more

We read reviews and decided to check it out Thai Hut restaurant on the way back from San Fransisco and ordered chicken basil. I am Thai, and I know that was not an authentic Thai chicken basil because of the quantities of vegetables more than the chicken. But we call it stir fry vegetables chicken basil plus over price. read more

The prices are OK and Service is nice . the ambience it's small and loud or you can sit outside the street noise is crazy too (but I am noise grumpy, so take that into account. )The food is outrageous. Basil bamboo Thai spicy is incredible. Just incredible. We get it to go, and it easily survives the drive home. Some food does not. I just wish they were open on the weekend or at least Saturday. I would have easily rated this restaurant 4* if I were just reviewing the food. However, I decided to use the restroom while I was waiting and it was filthy. Not just a little filthy - hadn't been cleaned in awhile filthy. I don't care how good a restaurant's food is, if the bathrooms are dirty I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. This is a very small space with a patio for outdoor seating. The prices are very reasonable and the service is fast. I had the drunken noodle with chicken and it was pretty good, but Champa's is much better. I would have to know the restrooms were thoroughly cleaned before going back again. Dirty floors, walls, sinks and toilets in a restaurant are not acceptable. read more

Highlights - Pumpkin Curry & Fried Tofu! (Visited on December 27, 2016 for Dinner) Ever since I got introduced to Thai food by my Husband (Well, Thanks to Him!), it only reminds me of our good times. To me, flavor appeal is one of the important criteria in order to judge between the good and the bad food irrespective of the type of cuisine I eat. I'm glad Thai Hut did a neat job in bringing the right flavors to our table (we were party of three). My impressions, # About the restaurant - Small (only 9 tables) but, not congested. Tidy seating area and good-to-use restroom. Overall, DECENT! # About their service - The friendly waitress who served us was attentive, helpful, quick & kind. Items did not take much time to arrive. # About their price range - Reasonable! # About their food [All-VEG], - Appetizer "Fried Tofu" ($7.99), this was brought to us in satisfyingly large amount with large pieces of tofu and the texture was such that it didn't make me feel guilty of having a fried item. In simple terms, it was not oily. Side sweet sauce had a pinch of chili flavor, which I really enjoyed. - From their Thai curries "Pumpkin Curry" ($8.99) with side of rice, this topped our meal. Pumpkin, coconut & red curry flavors stood out vibrantly. Veggies & greens like broccoli, carrots, bell peppers, mushrooms, pumpkin & basil were well cooked. With just-the-right portion size, surely this was the winner of the day. - From their Rice dishes "Spicy Basil Fried Rice" ($8.99), I always have the curiosity to try this same rice item at every thai restaurant I visit just to know whether the item match to my expectations, especially the spiciness. Yay! Thai Hut didn't go wrong with this either. Agreeable serving size, appropriate level of spiciness (I guess, they use chili garlic sauce), enticing veggies like broccoli, onions, bell peppers and basil leaves to add more flavor, well boiled rice and so overall, this was a good mix of rice, veggies and flavors. - From their Stir Fried Noodles "Pad Thai" ($8.99), Simple & amazing mix of flavors yet failed to impress us with the texture of noodles that was served. We all unanimously agreed on this out of those good pad thai experiences we all have so far. I wouldn't regard this as a big disappointment of the day, for the tasty outcome & not-falling-sick experience. We were coming into town to stay the night and we're hungry and craving Thai. I looked up this on Yelp and found Thai Hut was near our hotel and called ahead to order. Super friendly lady on the phone answers and I told her I found menus on Yelp in the photos and was hoping that menu was still current. She informed me yes they had the dinner specials and I proceeded to order. One order was vegan and she said that was no problem they would make everything vegan. She said our order would be ready in 10 min I let her know we were a bit further out and she asked when we liked it to be ready. We stopped in and order was hot and fresh and ready by register. All utensils and sauces were in bag she asked us if we wanted anything else and we were on our way, in and out! Super convenient and the food was amazing! Spice just right as we ordered and fresh ingredients and so much food very good deal! If your looking for some good Thai this is your place! read more
