Love this place!! Located in the same plaza with Tokyo Central, Sweet Rice & Bowl Thai, this restaurant serves up yummy thai hotpot in a unique way. I was warmly greeted by a friendly gentleman when I walked in and had a cake to celebrate my friend's birthday. He offered to hold the cake in the back which was super nice and later on explained how you grab a bowl and put as much veggies, meat and seafood you want in and they weigh it to charge you at the counter. Came here for dinner with my boyfriend about a week ago. It was pretty late on a weeknight, but I'd been wanting to try this place. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted, and the man working (sorry I didn't catch his name!) was super friendly and helpful in explaining how everything worked -- which I appreciated since it was my first time there. It's kind of like the Thai version of YGF Malatang! When you first enter, you'll see the open bar of meats and veggies, but if you walk further into the right, there's a hidden seating area in the back with a self-serve sauce and dipping station. It was very casual and quiet for a weeknight -- there was only one other party there, which made it a nice, lowkey dinner spot. I'm a big fan of these types of places because I get to choose exactly what I want to eat and how much. There are about 5 different soup bases for you to select. They also have a very wide selection of vegetables and proteins. I was a big fan of all their seafood options including crabs and shrimp. They have a variety of THAI BROTHS! I absolutely love Thai soups especially tom kha. My friend and I did some light work and only got a little over a pound each. It's 17.99/lb which is actually really expensive... it's the most expensive I've seen so far. The service was excellent. The gentleman explained the whole process on how it works and was polite and professional. The place looks empty when you first go inside but the tables are in the back area. There is also a self serve sauce bar and water is self serve as well. Pretty much everything is self serve here. To be really honest, the ingredients at the bar didn't look very fresh and they have meat that's not frozen. Once it's all cooked with the broth it's not bad though. The restaurant is bright and welcoming, the choices for your hot pot located on the right side before the cashier. He explained that the hot pot is priced by weight with a minimum of 1 pound. There was good variety of noodle, tofu, meats, and seafood options. They even included premium seafood like blue crab and dungeness crab (shell on). I ended up with some udon, seafood, beef balls, lucky bag (containing fish roe), and soybean curds. My soup of choice was Tom Kha. The soup was very vibrant with the tastes of lemon grass and creaminess of the coconut milk. I do consider the balance to be slightly off; too sour yet not enough spice. The sauce bar was adequate, garlic and sesame sauce was my basis but there was also sambal, Mala, and seafood sauce. The lucky bag was my favorite, the tenderness of the tofu with the unami of the fish roe (and slight pop). The blue crab was disappointing, the crab meat turned to mush, but overall all the seafood was generally fresh. After a meal, they provided a bite of ice cream which was delectable. They are apart of a larger shopping center so there is more of a see for park but at the same time, it could fill up fast. As we stood outside of the main entrance of this establishment reading there stand advertising the young man working inside greeted us outside and asked us to come in a get a better look and idea of what the restaurant is really about. Walking in was clean and well set up. Reminded me of a boutique for hot pot eating. All items are set up in self serve food bars. So you are. Grabbing a large bowl and adding ALL of the items you are wanting to taste and eat as apart of your soup. The meal is calculated and paid by pound. About $15 per lb. Once you are about to pay, you then choose the broth that you want as the base for your soup. You can also add your drink choice for an additional charge or they have a water bar around the corner in the seating/dinning area. There are also restrooms for guests. Overall our visit here was pleasant and quiet. The young guy working the counter ensured to check in on us and provided good ideas on how to enjoy our meals and at the end offered us each nice little tasters in ice cream in flavors of vanilla and strawberry cheesecake. I was not a very big fan of the broth here at Thai Hot Pot. I usually love Tom Yum but it was extremely sour. The cut of the meat was also something I didn't love. BUT i do think my choices made my meal not the best NOT because of the restaurant. Service was great for the most part. As of this review, it's $17.99/lb. You'll select your soup base and it's sent to the kitchen to create your masterpiece! Their drink offers are water, soda and Thai iced tea. In the dining room, you get to visit and revisit the condiments bar. So many options to create the perfect accompaniment to your hot pot! It wasn't a long wait for our hotpot. We shared one hotpot and that was more than enough for the two of us. We selected the jaew hon soup base, which is tamarind base and sour. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Finally gave this place a try & was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are under the same umbrella of restaurants w/ Bowl Thai/Grill & Sweet Rice (which is a GREAT sign bc those places are bomb.com). The best part about the setup (esp for picky eaters) is that you choose what you want in your hot pot vs a premade hot pot place, so you know that every ounce is spent towards something that you hand picked. The only iffy thing is the pricing, which is what I think throws most people off from trying it, but I think it's worth giving it a try if that's the main thing you're concerned about since that was my initial concern! They take your raw ingredients & prepare it for you in the back after you pay. Definitely huge portions esp when compared to how much is given at other restaurants when you order that specific dish individually. A side note: I always love & appreciate when bathrooms have cute interior & have additional loud speakers in the room for privacy. I really like the pink and green color scheme and there are a lot of tables. It's owned by the same people who run Sweet Rice and Bowl Thai Grill and it's just a couple doors down from those restaurants. I went with a group of 3 on a Sunday night and it was pretty empty. The staff at the front was very helpful with explaining the concept and the different broth types. The buffet selection for hotpot ingredients was pretty vast. There were a lot of veggies, 8 types of mushrooms, a lot of noodles, many fish balls/tofu, and then a lot of seafood items. There were limited sliced meat options (like brisket or something), but they had oxtail, intestine, chicken feet, and marinated chicken and pork. Food: Thai Suki - I ended up piling on about 1lb of seafood, fish balls, noodles, and veggies and it totaled to around $20. They give you a bowl of rice on the side to eat with your hotpot too. It was a pretty good portion and everything was cooked well inside. I thought the large pot with the individual burner to keep it warm was a nice touch too. The broth I chose was a mix of tangy and savory. I also tried some of the Tom Yum and Tom Kha broths and both were excellent! It's a very creative interactive take on hot pot restaurants because they charge by the pound then they cook it for you in a broth of your choosing. They do such a great job cooking it that nothing was tough or overcooked! If you're worried about overloading your hot pot contents you can keep weighing it as you're putting in your choices of veggies, meats, seafoods and other goodies. My friend and I got really excited and both somehow ended up with over 2 lbs of hot pot contents which was way too much food but the awesome part is they pack up whatever you don't eat so you can take it home and have another meal out of it! Favorites included the already peeled shrimp that was sooo flavorful and somehow was not overcooked even after sitting in the broth, any of the mushrooms which went so incredibly well with the tom kha broth I chose, the fish cake especially the rectangular shaped one. The glass noodles were also great but I might skip getting so much of them next time though since they also offer a bowl of rice with your hot pot. Wanted to visit Thai Hot Pot again after they changed concept. Previously, it was set hot pots like at Boiling Point. Now, it's like Mongolian BBQ; but, instead of grabbing all of the ingredients you want and having it stir-fried at the end, they weigh it, charge you by the pound (only $17.99/lb.), and use the ingredients to make a hot pot with your choice of broth. A bowl of steamed rice accompanies the pot and there's a sauce bar. I don't know about you, but the thing I dislike about set hot pots is that they're always either missing something you want, including stuff you don't want, or the quantity of what you want is just off. Sure, AYCE places like Mo Mo Paradise address this, but Thai Hot Pot doesn't have lines (yet) and you'll be pretty full for around $20. This salad bar-type set-up for the ingredients will more than satisfy the cravings of most hot pot lovers. Thai Hot Pot has around eight types of mushrooms alone! Plenty of varieties of fish balls, fish cakes, and tofu to choose from. Fish, scallops, and shrimp? Yep- got those, too. The only knock would be that they don't have a big variety of sliced meats and don't have higher-end cuts/wagyu. I had the Thai Suki broth- a little pungent, a little sweet. My daughter had the Nam Sai broth- comforting and light with a nice umami chicken flavor. Both were delicious. My daughter was pretty full after her $21 serving and had leftovers. I took an additional full order home with me to enjoy tomorrow. I very rarely do that. We love making hot pot at home, but don't like the soup bases available, prep, cleanup, or limitations on variety of ingredients. They will give you a bowl, pick out your favorite ingredients, and then they weigh it at the register before sending it off to the kitchen. Once it's cooked, they bring it right to your table--super convenient! There are five different soup bases to choose from, so you can enjoy a new flavor every time you go.
