TL;DR/The Short Version:
Fast food Thai. Not authentic tasting, but still good for what it is. Lots of seating.
The Long Version:
Thai Express is a chain that started in Montreal, Quebec in 1998. They assemble and stir-fry your food to order, but all the ingredients are pre-prepped. It's fast food.
The flavours are not authentic and have been Westernized, but for what it is, it's good.
Although many Thai Express locations are in mall food courts, this particular location is a freestanding restaurant with lots of seating. Although it shares its entrance with South St Burger, they are separate restaurants, each having their own seating. This location is in the University of Ottawa area and most of their clientele are university students.
I recently got some dinner for my husband and I here. UberEats was having a BOGO (buy one get one free) special. So I ordered for pick up. I got the Peanut Stir-fry ($16.49) and added chicken for an additional $0.30 each box. Thai Express has the lowest prices for protein add-ons. I chose medium spice and it was a true medium, with some heat but not burn your mouth hot.
The peanut sauce was flavourful with good texture. You could taste the crushed peanuts. The chicken was lean chicken breast. The vegetables included onions, carrots, green peppers and mushrooms. There was way too much onion in my opinion, but otherwise everything was great. I got the stir-fry on rice. Noodles is also a option, but they charge you $2 extra per box for noodles.
Service was pleasant and they were super quick. I literally placed the order in my parked car and by the time I walked to the restaurant like a block away it was ready.
Street parking only, which can be hard to find depending on time and day.
