If you haven't been here, you really need to go! Total hole-in-the-wall kind of place, in the corner of the gas station/Quickie, beside the Tim Hortons. I've been meaning to try it for so long but never really went in for some reason. So glad I did!
I stood there staring at the menu for a little while, not being able to decide what to get. I definitely wanted mango salad and could go for some green curry, which I hadn't had in awhile, so that's what I went with, even though I could've easily gotten at least five things on the menu for just myself.
The mango salad (A4 - Yum Ma'Muang) had green mango, cashew nuts, shrimp, red and green onions, and grape tomatoes. I thought it was expensive at $12, but thought I'd splurge anyway. It actually ended up being a bigger portion than I expected, so I was happy. The green mango was super fresh and had that nice, firm bite, same with the other ingredients. Just what I was craving! There were also slices of red onion, but I had expected it to have it, so I didn't realize that ingredient wasn't listed on the menu until later.
The green curry (G1 - Gaeng Khiao Wan) came with red and green peppers, zucchini, and sweet basil. There wasn't any eggplant like it listed on the menu, but there were green beans, carrots, and broccoli, so I was happy with all of the additional veggies. I chose chicken as my protein, but you can have beef, pork, or tofu for the same price, or shrimp for an extra $2. It was piping hot and really comforting. There was the perfect amount of all of the ingredients, including the curry broth, and the veggies were cooked but firm. YUM!
Both dishes definitely had a heavier hand on the fish sauce, but I really enjoyed them and rice toned it down as well.
There was only one woman there who cooked my meal and rang me up. She was the absolute sweetest! Extremely kind and had smiling eyes. She was very patient with me while I decided. She suggested one of the lunch specials with green curry and rice (cheaper), but I wanted to go with the pricier one to support the business (and also bigger because I was really hungry haha). I will definitely be back! read more
