In my humble opinion, some of the best Thai food in Ottawa. Excellent service, and cozy atmosphere. Disappointed that they don't take reservations on Friday and Saturday evenings. But that's ok, since we eat dinner earlier than most, so we always get a seat. read more

Sabai Thai Cuisine - Chicken satay - Thai Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

We came here on a Saturday night right when they opened at 5 pm. We were happy we got there early because while we were waiting for our meals the restaurant was almost full house. We noticed that there was only 1 waitress for the entire restaurant which made it abitt difficult to have the best service. It felt like she was running around back and forth taking orders and all. We wanted more water and hot sauce and it took us over 20 minutes to grab her attention. Food wise it was good but not the best. We got the chicken sticks, the mango salad and the chicken pad Thai. The chicken sticks were way to spicy because of the curry, the sauce that came with it was not enough. I loved the mango salad, it was very fresh, I would definitely order this to myself when I come back. The pad Thai was to my liking aswell but if you don't like sweet I don't recommend getting this because this dish is pretty sweet. The portion are very big for the price you are paying. We shared the 3 plates and we were full at the end, we each paid 25$. This place is good for groups and to share food. They don't seem to have an online reservation option but for big groups it's preferable to call before. read more

My husband and I took my father-in-law here for dinner recently and we really enjoyed it. Everything was flavourful, and my only complaint is that the food was a tad too oily for my tastes. My rating is 4.5 stars. Would be 5 stars if they used less oil. We started with the pork satay ($8.50), which was 4 skewers of lean pork with a sweet honey chili dipping sauce. Then we shared the Pad Woon Sen (vermicelli stir-fried with vegetables, eggs and chicken) $14.95, the Goong Pad Med Ma Muang (sauteed shrimp with cashews, vegetables, and dried chilies) $15.95, the Pad Prik Khing (sauteed beef with vegetables in a spicy ginger curry) $14.95, and a medium order of steamed jasmine rice $4. The Pad Woon Sen was a bit too oily, but still tasted good. There were lots of vegetables in it (broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, baby corn, cabbage, celery, carrots, and cherry tomatoes), and slices of lean chicken breast. The sauce was a little sweet, but not overly so. I would have liked it more if it was less oily though. The shrimp dish had 7 large shrimp in it, cashews, and lots of vegetables (carrots, broccoli, onions, green beans, mushrooms, baby corn). The sauce was a bit sweet and a bit sour. Despite having dried chilies in it, the dish was not spicy at all, at least not to me. It was very tasty and flavourful nonetheless. The beef dish was also excellent. It was a little bit spicy, the spiciest of all the dishes we ordered. It had a really pronounced ginger flavour to it, since it contained a lot of shredded ginger. The beef was lean and very tender. The vegetables it came with were broccoli, carrots, and green beans. Although I enjoyed this dish, I would have enjoyed it more if it was less oily. The rice was not too dry nor too mushy. A medium was a good size for the 3 of us. We actually had a lot of rice leftover, but I think a small would have been too small. Prices are around the same as other Thai restaurants, but portion sizes are bigger. Service was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. My only minor compliant is that the kitchen could have better ventilation because it was a bit smoky in the restaurant (and we were seated by the entrance/exit, the farthest away from the kitchen). The restaurant is in a strip mall in Kanata North. There's free parking in the shared lot. Same strip mall as Hockey Sushi, Punjabi Clay Oven, and Wendy's. read more

Great food and fast!! Great service too! Well worth the drive from Almonte! The wraps are huge, the curries are very subtle and the eggplant dishes are great! read more

This is my go to Thai restaurant on the west end. The staff is nice and friendly and the food is always spot on. The laab salad is my favourite but it does have a nice spicy kick to it! read more

My experience was poor, but I suspect that is not true for most patrons. Here's a summary of my experience: I ordered papaya salad that was $16 CAD (usually $10 CAD in USA) and specifically asked for not spicy. It came back Thai fire and was missing the sweet lime taste it's supposed to have. When the server saw I did not eat it, she simply giggled and said Too spicy? There was no offer of another meal or can I get you something else (I would've paid for something else). Not was their an apology or offer of a discount or something free. My brother-in-law seemed to enjoy his; so that's why I am not going with 2 stars. There is a lack of ambiance as well...previous owners had beautiful Thai art on the walls. My recommendation: go elsewhere for better Thai food. read more

I have really enjoyed the food at Sabai Thai in the past so I am really sad about the takeout I ordered last week. The soup (coconut curry/shrimp) was thin and lacked the rich flavour that this dish usually has. The shrimp tasted like they had just been dropped to the soup at the last minute already cooked, they didn't take on any of the delicious flavour of the broth as they normally should. Gang garee guy, my most favourite Thai dish of all time, was similarly lacking in depth of flavour--as if the chicken and potato had been cooked separately and then added to the sauce, so they had not absorbed the flavour like they should. The potato was even a little underdone. I really, really hope that this experience was a one-off that I can chalk up to the pandemic or to ordering too close to closing time. read more

Sabai Thai Cuisine - Thai red curry to go - Thai Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

Sabai's popularity is mainly because of lack of options in the area. The yellow curry, chicken stir fry with ginger were both ok at best. Mango salad was not ripe enough. Spring roll was the only saving grace. Their service is so rushed that the lady spilled the soup as it was served. Would probably go back when I run out of options again. ‍ read more

I was craving Thai food very badly and after reading that this restaurant had good reviews and wasn't too far from me I decided to come here. I ordered takeout and got tom yum soup, chicken satays and #19. red curry with chicken. I've eaten at many Thai restaurants over the years in various cities one of the best probably in Detroit area (Dearborn). I've eaten Thai in Vancouver, Toronto, Windsor, Halifax, London so I can definitely say the tom yum soup here is not good. It's okay.. but it's lacking a tangy lime taste, and spice. To me it honestly was more like plain chicken soup broth with hint of the usual Thai flavours. It was a small size as well and cost 6 dollars.. The satays were also just okay, mostly because I found the sauce wasn't very peanut like. I love a rich peanut sauce with chicken satays so that was the part I was most looking forward too. I really enjoyed the red curry I ordered however, that is something I would order again from here. The chicken was soft and thin (white meat) and the curry sauce was very flavourful. It did not come with rice however, a small rice was 2 dollars extra personally I feel they could give free rice with a curry dish. But that was the best thing I ordered. Overall, I wasn't amazed and I will probably try some other Thai restaurants to compare my area options. It also wasn't horrible it was just mediocre and the curry was pretty good. I'd order curries again here for sure. read more

A nice little Thai resto with friendly staff. Ordered some takeout and did not expect the nice interior and ambiance when I arrived. The papaya salad was authentic -- fresh and spicy with the right amount of smashed roasted peanuts. Will definitely be back again to check out the other offerings. read more

Actually 3.5. Came across this restaurant when searching on Yelp for something in Kanata, and was intrigued by the high rating. Overall, I would say the food was pretty good. I got the pad thai, vegetables spring rolls, and free soup (lunch special). I think this was a good value and tasted good. The Pad Thai was a bit too sweet for me even though I requested the highest level spicy (level 5). Can't really ding them on too much. Unfortunately I will most likely not go back because nothing in particular stood out to me (service was good, interior cleanliness was good, and food was good - nothing was great per say). It's a good choice for Thai food if you work in the March Rd/Kanata area. read more

The food is really good. I recommend the shrimp spring rolls as they are always fresh, the sauce used to dip is a nice blend of spice and sour and the presentation is excellent. The staff is very courteous and accommodating. Children can easily come there with families to eat. Prices are good for the amount of food and quality you receive. I have also eaten the beef and vegetable with curry and the chicken curry. Both were excellent with a good portion of rice and the rice was soft and cooked to the right texture. read more

While eating here for dinner about a year ago it was kind of weird because we where the only people in the restaurant. We quickly realized that people kept coming in to pick up takeout. Since that night my family has been ordering take out from here every few weeks. My favourites are the red curry and the chicken pad Thai. By far the best Thai food I've ever had! Highly recommend! read more

I feel bad for my family that lives in Ottawa. They really have substandard international food here. Everywhere they have taken me for things other than Canadian/American fare has been terrible and OVERPRICED! Case in point is this Sabai Thai that says on their menu that this is 'authentic Thai'. Nothing about the servers or the food gave me the feeling of Thailand. I'm not sure if you've heard of Chinese Thai, but that's what I think this is. You know the places that serve Chinese food, plus Vietnamese, plus Thai, but really everything is Chinese...it reminds me of one of those joints that 'specializes' in Thai. TBH, IMO, the sauces tasted like they came from a jar or worse yet, a can. The noodles were also the same kinda of thing and they didn't know about traditional dishes which leads me to think that this is most likely not authentic; and if it is -- it ain't very good! Won't be back. read more

I've been a customer here often, but 5 of us went here for dinner this week and none of us liked what was served. I have to think that there has been a change in the kitchen because this was one of my favourite local restaurants. The tempura vegetables and the soup were cold. The Pad Thai was below average, the spring rolls were over cooked. We brought home the leftovers, and even my son- who will eat anything- couldn't manage to eat them and we had to toss out basically 3 full meals. And the service, while always a little slow, this evening was less than acceptable. I'm going to miss you Sabai Thai... read more

Food is delicious. Some of my personal favorites are mango salad, Panang, Chu Chee Pla (sounds weird but its crispy fish with a curry sauce, yumm) and there is only one item for dessert but it soooo good, deep fried banana with coconut or mango ice cream. Like the sign says, new owners, same food and same staff! I will definitely return. read more

Had a crazy night of going to one restaurant after shopping and it was a reservation only night. The restaurant was the reason me and my spouse where out in kanata area. After visiting multiple restaurants starving, all with long waits ahead we found this restaurant and said what the hell, let's give it a try. Was welcomed by a nice lady and seated as soon as we walked in. The prices were all very good and the atmosphere of the place was just very happy. We got a appetizer and two meals and were not disappointed! Best thai food I've ever had 10/10 would recommend! read more

I had the lunch special D. I hated eggplant for my whole life until today. The D. dish changed my life.

Ordered PAD KHING with beef. Don't like the gingers. But the rice is really good. A little pricey.

Tried this place out when I was out near Kanata on business. The food was alright kind of little too sweet more than I'd like for a Krapao stir fried dish. But, it was a pleasant experience, nonetheless. read more
