This place is decorated with Thai accessories and old wooden furniture from the previous business I guess. The staff, mostly women are dressed in what I presume is traditional wear. It seems that it is family run. They have a broad thai menu. I stay away from curries so I prefer stir fries. I enjoyed a pork and veggie dish. I scared them by asking low spice level. My husband and I had lunch at Thum's Kitchen when we were visiting Cornwall and overall it was fantastic. I had the L15 Pad Kee Mow (aka Drunken Noodles) with beef $11.90 and my husband had the L13 Pad Preaw Wan (aka sweet and sour stir-fry) with beef $11.90. Both meals came with Tom Yum soup. The Tom Yum soup was very flavourful. I really loved the sweet and sour broth. It had a few mushrooms and pieces of tomatoes in it. It was a nice way to start the meal. Our food came pretty quickly after the soup. My drunken noodles were really spicy and I loved the amount of spice. It had tender beef slices, as well as carrots, green beans, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, onions and mushrooms. It was garnished with raw bean sprouts, raw carrots, raw shredded cabbage and a piece of lettuce. I really enjoyed my dish except for the fact that it was really oily. I would have liked it more if they used less oil. Nonetheless, it was tasty. I had a bit of my husband's dish and it was also delicious. The sweet and sour beef was mild and not spicy at all. It came with some steamed rice that was formed into the shape of a heart. His dish had onions, celery, bell peppers and pineapple in it. We ate outside on the patio. We had a later lunch, around 1:30pm, and we loved that we were the only ones on the patio. The restaurant is on a main street though, so lots of noise from traffic, but it's elevated, so you're at least higher up and not at the same level as cars on the road. The patio furniture is wooden and I love that the tables have a little ledge under the table where you can put your purse or other belongings. Service was welcoming and courteous, and quick too. There's a private parking lot at the side and behind the restaurant. Parking is free. We love finding gems like this in small towns. Looking forward to returning to try their other dishes. read more

Came here on our way to PEI, and decided to give this place a try due to its high ratings. The interior looks impeccably Thai, with lots of gold embellishments and Thai decor. The waitresses were both super friendly! I was quite pleased to see a variety of Thai dishes on the menu that differs from your usual Pad Thai fare. They offered some noodle soups and Khao Soi Gai. We all ordered the lunch special, which came with the soup of the day. My lunch special was a yellow chicken curry with rice noodles for dipping. It was served with a spring roll and a creamy hot and sour soup. The curry was great - it was rich in coconut milk (you could tell that they didn't skimp on ingredients), and the rice noodles was the perfect vessel to mop up all the sauce. I do wish that there was more depth in flavour to the curry... It was mostly just sweet. I wasn't a big fan of the soup; it was interesting at first, but then the sickeningly sweet tomato flavour really overwhelmed my taste buds. The spring roll was nice and crispy, though I wish the sauce was drizzled on the side to avoid sogginess. My dad got the yellow chicken curry with rice, which was much darker in colour and richer in flavour than mine. I quite enjoyed it, and cleared off all the potatoes in it! My mom ordered the spicy stir fried noodles, which came with beef and veggies. I found the noodles quite sweet and wet. My sister got the stir fried pork with basil and veggies, and again, my comments are that it was fairly sweet and very wet. I wish it had more wok air... All the flavours in this restaurant seem to fall on the sweet side, with a common theme of wetness in the stir fried dishes. We passed by Cornwall on the way home from Montreal. My boyfriend remember distinctively about this amazing Thai restaurant during his training in Cornwall. And of course, we went there for dinner that night. When we arrived at Thum's Kitchen Thai Cuisine, there were no parking spots left, and we had to park in the plaza across the street from it. I was surprised by the amount of people that were in the restaurant, since during the ride to the restaurant, there were no more than ten cars driving in the city. Anyways, thankfully, we only waited for 15 minutes for our table. The owner of Thum's had put a lot of effort on the theme of the restaurant. The whole place was filled with decorations that resembles Thailand, such as bamboo mats and blinds, Buddhas, pineapples, flowers, and temples. My favourite decorations of all was the elephant on their menu. It is very classic and it adds a little touch to their menu. Besides the Thai decorations, all the servers were wearing pink traditional Thai dresses, which brings the theme of the restaurant to a whole new level. Thum's offers four levels of spiciness to their dishes. Level 1 - Mild Level 2 - Regular Level 3 - Very Spicy Level 4 - Deadly My crazy boyfriend went ahead and ordered level 3 spicy with his Pad Kee Mow - fried rice noodles with chicken or beef and chili, basil leaves, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, onions, and green beans. Needless to say, it was the spiciest noodles he ever had in his life. He went through couple glasses of cold water throughout the meal. And we don't want to know what happened in the washroom that night... As for me, I ordered Gang Garee Gai - Yellow Curry with Chicken and Potato with rice. Knowing that Thai has a higher toleration of spiciness, I only ordered level 1 spicy for my Curry. And thank God I made the right decision, as the Curry turned out to be spicy enough already. Anyhow, I really liked their Curry, it is the best Curry I had in Canada. A very strong flavour of coconut, which also brings out the sweetness and spiciness of the Curry. This is my absolute favourite Thai restaurant in Ontario. I keep trying out other Thai-specific places, and I've yet to find one that matches up with Thum's Kitchen. Once upon a time, this restaurant used to be a very small kiosk located alongside a rural road in the small village of Moose Creek. It was very popular as a take-out sort of venue, and the menu was far more limited back then. Eventually, the family expanded and moved their business out to the city of Cornwall, taking over a large Bavarian-style building that has housed a litany of restaurants that never seemed to stick around for very long. Not so for Thum's, however. This place is a cornerstone in Cornwall. It's very popular and if you plan on going on the weekends and evenings later on in the week, I suggest you call in and make a reservation just in case. The hours are a little strange, and there's been a few times I've driven down there on a whim only to find out it was closed (I'm one of those lazy persons who doesn't bother to learn businesses' hours of operations. I know, I know!) This place is authentic. The decor is extensive with a lot of unique pieces from Thailand. Not your typical travel posters and framed prints. There are huge carved wood sculptures, 3D reliefs on the walls, etc. The tablecloths are culturally-inspired, the silverware is unique enough that I've had to restrain myself from pocketing an elephant-ended fork on more than one occasion. Lastly, the music is good, and the clothing worn by the servers is traditional Thai, as well. It's an entire production, to say the least, and it's lovely. The menu is probably the most extensive I've witnessed as well. It's also peppered with little anecdotes and factoids about Thailand, including country facts, food and eating customs, and do's and don'ts of etiquette. The food itself is amazing, I've sampled and had several of their dishes over the years, but I am going to personally confess that I ended up going for my own personal sweet, sweet addiction- red curry. They make a mean Gang Dang. In fact, I haven't even found this specific dish anywhere else, nor have I had a dish with bamboo shoots in Ontario that wasn't from a can *except* at Thum's Kitchen. They use fresh, and it's an entirely different creature all together. Buttery yet crisp at the same time. Oh yeah, baby. Bathrooms are downstairs and are suitable and serviceable enough. The only downside I can find about this place is that it doesn't seem to be wheelchair accessible. I may have missed a side or alternate entrance, though, so don't take my word for it on that-- call first and see because I may be wrong on that note. read more

I went with my usual girlfriend. We just dropped in, and felt out of place. It was crowded (also, it was a Friday night) and I felt like an intruder. They first asked if we had a reservation, which we did not. But they were able to squeeze the two of us in. In my usual white girl ignorance, I looked at the menu vacantly. I didn't know what I was ordering, and still am unsure what it was that I had ordered. I often wish that menus came illustrated. Often times, they describe what's inside but even the items in the menu are out of my culinary range. The impression I was left with at this restaurant is that they take a lot of pride in what they do. The waiters and waitresses are dressed in traditional attire and they have decorated the inside in such a way as to feel fully immersed in a different culture. The menu had a variety of appetizers and entrees and we tried a both. The prices weren't crazy and there was even a young family (about 6 or 7 members in total) at the table beside us. Can't be too expensive if you can take out all the little ones... Over all, I see this as a great "girls night out" place to try, as well as a "follow up date" meeting place. There were plenty of options on the menu that looked delicious but we went with the vegetarian section and were very pleased. The papaya salad was one of the best I have had in the Northeast. I had the green curry with chicken and it was honestly the best curry I've ever had, and I eat quite a bit of curry. The prices are all very fair, and you get great portions. My husband and I have eaten at this restaurant on several occasions and we have never been disappointed. The décor is all from Thailand, including the materials for the table clothes and dresses. The food is very good, at a very reasonable price. We have eaten in Thai restaurants in Montreal, and both feel that the food here is just as good at a much cheaper cost. My only complaint is if you go during lunch and order the lunch special the food is not always hot, for some reason if you order a la cart it is, they will be happy to heat it up but we should not have to ask. Wifey and I moved from Virginia to the cold North Country of New York. With winter having set in, we needed some spicy Thai food to get us going. We figured the pickings were slim, until we came across this absolute gem. This is some fantastic Thai food! The pad thai is delicious, a great blend of sweet, spicy, and savory that isn't overpowered by tamarind, which I appreciate. Wifey goes for the vegetable stir-fry that has a different flavor profile from the typical coconut or peanut flavors. Service has always been top notch, in fact our waitress remembered us our second visit a month later.
