Found this Greek restaurant on a pit stop to Montreal. The portions were big and very filling. Lots of seating available and it's very spacious inside, and there is free parking on site. I ordered the 1 stick Pork Souvlaki platter ($16). Everything was good. My party ordered the meat lovers pizza and it wasn't bad. Service was a bit slower considering that the restaurant wasn't too busy, but it was fine with us. Overall, it was a nice meal and it hit the spot. read more

We have been to this restaurant several times and always have the souvlaki (2) platter, which is always amazing. We have only been there for lunch, so I can not comment on dinner service. That said, the lunch servers are horrible! There are usually only two or three servers on, and they are excruciatingly slow, don't check on you for more drinks, or see if the meal is to your liking. It takes forever to get their attention to get the check, take out a container. The kicker and the reason we will not be going back is that when you pay, you are not given the option to not tip, not that I would do that, but to tip less than 18%. I usually tip 25% for good service and 10% for service that says, " I'm here to give you the minimum"! Please hire more professional servers so we can once again enjoy your food. Well, if you buy the pita platter, all you get is a big pile of lettuce with a tiny bit of feta cheese three slices of potato so I think you're better off just buying the pita cost $12 more to get a little bit of tomato slice, which is usually really crappy tomato one or two pieces of cucumber. I think the thing to order here is most definitely the Greek food, the feedback from the group was great on this. My burger was fine(just fine, the edges especially were over cooked and hard making the whole thing really dry) and the lasagna was like nothing I've ever seen. A pan less than an inch of thickness.. with exactly one layer of lasagna noodles and some cheese on top. It didn't seem like the place to get lasagna but having seen what came out it most definitely was not the place to get lasagna. I'm not even sure you can call it lasagna but my friend said she liked it so the sauce must have been excellent. She's a super nice person who doesn't complain about anything ever. There was no bechamel or ricotta or anything so personally I would call it spaghetti with lasagna noodles at best but the Greek platters looked fantastic and the service was great given that we randomly showed up with such a large group w no reso. read more

I was skeptical, because they have several different kinds of cuisine (usually not a good sign), but I had the souvlaki and it was delicious! I think that Greek food is their real specialty- could be wrong- and I didn't try anything else, but what I had was really good. Great place that does not follow heath codes,we ordered two greek salads only to find a blonde long hair in it,told the server ,who asked what colour it was,i said blonde,she said ,must be the owner ,who nevers were a hair,asked for a new salad same thing we walked.Never been back !! Philos restaurant is situated at the North end of the City of Cornwall on Pitt Street. It had been awhile since I had come here and now I remember why. The restaurant is clean and spacious. The decor and atmosphere are also very nice. We were greeted and seated prompty at a booth near a window. A word to the wise, stay away from the booths near the windows. We caught a cold draft but didn't notice it right away as we still had or coats on. I ordered the two stick pork souvlaki which took a bit of time to arrive. I'd say about 20-25 minutes. The portion size was large however I found the pork to be overly salty. The rice I also found to be quite dry and flavourless. Our waitress was an older lady. As the food arrived, my dining partner was on the phone. The waitress took it upon herself to snatch the utensils which he had in his other hand (without asking I might add) and unwrap them from the napkin for him. I'm sure it was done with the best intentions but pretty forward I thought. She also did not return to the table to check on us until we had finished our meal. The cost of my meal was $13 plus tax which I find to be a few dollars more than the local competition. On the whole, I didn't have a horrible dining experience however I would choose another local restuarant given the choice next time. read more

Used to frequent this place fairly regularly but haven been in about 6-7 years. No particular reason other than moved to other favorites. We travel to Montreal from time to time and have patronized a few Greek eateries there with varying degrees of satisfaction withe the food. This was like when you've moved out of home with your parents and return home for xmas dinner and get your moms home cooking after a year away. Had the pork/chicken souvlaki dinner. Real comfort food. The service staff wear T-shirts that say "we treat you like family". We had the pleasant experience of having Fred serve us. He is there when you need him and not when you don't. Get a sincere feeling with Fred that he really cares that your happy. I wish my family was this pleasant. read more

I attended Philo's with my partner, our sleeping infant son, and another couple who are new to the Cornwall area and wanted to try something different (ie: not fast food). The food there is good. Both Martin and his friend ordered the wraps I generally take, which comes with greek salad, potatoes, and the wrap. The highlite of this meal is the wrap itself, and the feta they throw on top of your salad. His friend's partner ordered a fettucine with fish, which was such a large portion that she took it to go. I ordered a pizza off their lunch menu. I told myself I would share, as their are 4 slices. It came with a soup and a coffee. And a dessert. Which I did eat. All in one sitting. All of it. I've had mixed feelings about Philo's. One, they seem to constantly change their Strawberry Shake recipe. Two, one time I didn't eat my feta, hoping to save it for home, and when I asked for me meal to go, they threw out my piece of Feta. I assume they thought I didn't want it since I hadn't touched it. Lastly, when I took the aforementioned lunch menu item the last time we went, though coffee was included, refills were not. I'm sorry... you charge somebody twice for #coffee# (wish I could make italics here)?? Lesson learned for me. As cheap as it sounds, I will ask from now on what is and isn't refillable for free. The lady didn't even state that there was a charge, just brought me another. I suppose I should have assumed it would be extra, and she, of course, assumed I knew it would be extra... Either way, I was quite disappointed. On the other hand, this did make me brave enough to ask the MacDonald's lady if the coffee I was having in-Restaurant was refillable (it was) and I did get more drinks at the cash when I went to Harvey's later on, as they, too, are refillable as long as you ask for it. The cook misread the order on how I wanted my eggs. They arrived over-easy and I asked for lightly poached. After waiting 20 minutes more, I get the eggs I wanted and they were almost hard boiled. When it gets busy the quality of service declines. As illustrated above, they work too fast and make errors with orders in the kitchen. Restaurant is clean, bathroom as well. FEELOS, PHIGHLOS.. I don't care what you call it. I've lived in Cornwall since this place opened and it's always been a great place to eat. Tonight, while I dine with my girlfriend we both realized that this place is absolutely terrific. They nail every checkbox: cheap? CHECK. Tasty? CHECK. Fresh and healthy? DOUBLE CHECK! Good service? Check and checkmate when the short haired, spunky waitress serves you, lady you know who you are, keep up the great work. I have been going to Philo's for years! We go out of our way to stop here when we come up for vacation. My husband always gets the Panzerotti, myself the souvlaki and the kids pizza. Always had great service, good food, plenty of leftovers and no complaints. The desserts are good, I recommend the carrot cake! read more

Went there expecting some good Greek food was very disappointed. The Horiatiki salad was a sad thing, all lettuce and a weird dressing, the onions were over powering the salad.
