I find the food choices here slim. We ordered the oxtail with rice and peas, which was soo good. The sauce was a bit on the salty side but it was alright with the rice. There were a few plantains which were perfectly both crispy and soft. The oxtail portion was pretty generous compared to other places I've been in ottawa. We also got the curry goat roti. The roti was served on the side. The curry goat was good, but not as good as the oxtail. The roti was delicious, with the perfect texture. I would definitely be back to try more things. The jerk chicken is next!

My brother got us some takeout from this place through UberEats, so I can only comment on the food…read more He got us the Jerk Chicken ($15) which comes with rice and beans, plantains and cooked cabbage and carrots, and the Ox Tail ($17.50) which comes with the same sides. The portion size was good. The chicken came with a drumstick with thigh attached and another drumstick without the thigh attached. The oxtail portion was also not skimpy. Taste-wise, I felt it was 3.5 but I'll round up to 4. The rice did not have very many beans, and while it was fluffy and nicely cooked, I felt that it lacked flavour. The vegetables could have also used more flavour, in my opinion. It got better with the plantains, which were soft and sweet. The chicken was well seasoned and had a spicy kick to it, but it wasn't that spicy, so don't shy away if you don't like too spicy. The Ox Tail was really good. The pieces were tender and the sauce was excellent. Definitely one of the better Ox Tail dishes in Ottawa. It's slim pickings for Jamaican food in Orleans, so I'm happy that this place opened up (it's relatively new. I think it opened up sometime in 2021). Apparently they also serve the Trinidadian street food Doubles! Doubles are a rarity in Ottawa, so I'll need to check them out here sometime ;)

I was expecting more meat for a large, since the large jerk chicken at my favourite place in the Bayshore area is 2 drumsticks and 2 thighs and costs a little bit less. However, I guess this is Blackburn Hamlet and not Bayshore. At any rate, the chicken was nicely spiced and fall off the bone tender. I loved the rice and beans, it had a distinct coconut milk taste that I enjoyed. I got 3 very thin slices of plantain, like razor thin, lol. They were good, but so small in amount, haha. I did get a big dumpling, which is essentially fried dough. It was slightly sweet and not too dense. A bit oily for my tastes, but it was good. I enjoyed the salad which was lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and olives. The vegetables were all fresh. The takeout box was plastic, which I like over styrofoam (although cardboard is still my favourite). Service was courteous and it didn't take too long for my food. I got takeout but there are seats to eat in. The restaurant is in a converted house. I think it's the only Caribbean restaurant in Blackburn Hamlet. There's a small amount of free parking on-site.

Bon Goût (which means "good taste" in French) is a newly opened Haitian restaurant in Orleans. I…read moredropped by recently to pick up lunch for my parents and I, and we were all very happy with our meals. They have 3 takeout lunch specials served between 12pm-2pm, and I got one of each: Chicken ($6), Pork ($6) and Turkey ($7). Each special came with rice and peas, pikliz (spicy coleslaw), salad, and a piece of plantain. The portion size was very good for the price, and satisfying for lunch. For the chicken special, they forgot to give me a piece of plantain :( but I ate half of a piece of plantain from one of the other platters and it tasted quite good. It was smashed/flattened and then deep fried. The chicken was a full thigh piece. The spices were rather mild, but still tasty. The salad was romaine, bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Vegetables were fresh. The salad dressing was creamy. The pikliz was spicy and I enjoyed it. The rice and peas were excellent. I loved the flavour of it. I had a piece of the pork and I liked that the pork was lean and despite being fried it wasn't overly greasy. The pork was boneless, which I appreciated. The turkey was cut up pieces with bone-in, but fortunately there weren't any bone shards in the dish. The turkey was really flavourful, more so than the chicken, but we didn't get that much meat in this dish. I think I'll stick with the chicken or pork in the future. The wait for takeout was about 30 minutes, which was a bit long, but I think it was worth it because the food was good and the price was very reasonable. They have tables where you can eat-in. The place looked clean. They've only been open for about 2 months. There's a parking lot in front with free parking.

We thought it had only been around for a short while but it's actually been here for 7 years already! It seems like the majority of traffic happens in the afternoon but it is open at night as well. My wife and I headed there on a Thursday night and we had the place to ourselves which meant the owner was free to chat with us as much as we wanted as we discussed the dishes and what we should try out. The ambiance was so nice and relaxing and the music being piped in was just perfect for the event. We started with a Mixed Entrees which meant a sampling of Acras (SO good!) Pâtés Cordees (patties filled with pulled pork - very tasty) and Chiquetailles (spicy smoked herring spread - SO spicy but SO tasty!) For our main meals I chose the Creole Chicken in a spicy stew (served with Rice, Fried Plantains, and sauce) which was very good. Mixing the stew in my rice also gave it a great little kick :) My wife had the Tassot de Boeuf (beef marinated in creole spices) which was also very tasty! We were too full to try any desserts but will definitely be back so there will be another chance :)
