We also learned that ownership has changed which explains it. The ambience is nice and the service, when we went was great, but we got there early and there was nobody else eating, so there's that. I still recommend Sala Thai and if you like this cuisine and haven't yet tried this restaurant, you're missing out. Parking is easy [I'm from New York City so all Ottawa parking is easy] and you need to try it. You don't need a reservation, especially if you go early.

The place itself is nice, ample amount of seating available as well. It was not at all busy when we went. The service was good, food came out in a. Timely manner. The food however was a hit and miss. Starting with Chicken Satey skewers 4/5 peanut sauce was great Tom Yum Soup 1/5 this was our least favourite, it tasted like miso soup, & incredibly salty. Panang curry 4/5 probably the tastiest item we tried on the menu that day. It was flavourful. Pad Thai 3/5 it was ok (47) Gai Pad Med Mamuang 2/5 the sauce itself was a bit salty and watery which made the chicken taste as though it had been boiled and mixed with vegetables. I was expecting more of a stir fry. Mango Sticky Rice 5/5 Overall, the hunt continues.

Maybe the definition of being a foodie should include finding the food stand's brick-and-mortar store after devouring great food and drink at a market. It's exactly what we did. It makes sense if we aren't at the market on weekends. We can get our Thai fix here. I ended up getting finger food from this eatery at the market. I ordered a pork wonton and a shrimp spring roll. The man at the stand was so nice that he gave me a pork wonton on the house. It was a nice surprise and I will never say no to free food. I also got a Thai iced tea. Drinks were self-serve once you got a cup from him. I made the mistake of pouring sala cider instead. Oops! He was great getting me another cup and I made sure that I got Thai iced tea, which was cold and excellent on a hot day. It's funny that I ended up having both drinks. I loved my pork wontons. They were crispy on the outside. The filling was nicely seasoned. I could taste basil, which made them heavenly. There was decent shrimp filling in the spring roll, which had a nice crunch to it. My friend got the chicken pad khee mao. She loved it. She said that it had bean sprouts, which aren't her thing. However, there weren't a lot of them and she ate them all. I didn't have a chance to volunteer to eat them. The food was that good! I want noodles now. I hope to get some when I'm back, along with more finger food. (265)

The ambiance was nice and calm, even though the place was very busy. I was impressed by how fast the service was, in about 45 minutes we were in, out, and on our way back. I called re resos after another Thai place decided to close at 6. Lucky score for us to come here. I would come back here and would recommend! Service on the phone and in person was very sweet. Felt family owned. They were patient as we perused the large menu. I think I'd love anything from here. It's my jam. Thai! I decided on my craving... drunken noodles, extra spicy with shrimp and my sis got the Tom Yum soup with noodles and shrimp. We were both happy and had some to take home. Shrimp was cooked right as were the noodles. I was reminded how much I love Asian broccoli. Washroom was clean. I can't wait to come back. Prices were reasonable.

About 10 minutes after we entered, the power went out here. The staff came out with candles to augment the emergency lighting. They went to the tables where people had not yet ordered to let us know that they could still support a partial menu as most of their cooking is with gas, but pointed out the dishes that were cooked on electrics. Food was good, still delivered in a reasonable time, service was good despite the obvious challenges. Because they could only take cash, and had no registers, they didn't bother charging tax. Honestly, I think they did an amazing job handling an unfortunate situation, and as a result, I have been back here numerous times since then.

The servings were very substantial and also quite tasty. The only negative I found is their silverware: it's shape makes it clumsy to hold as the flat area of the handle is vertical. Otherwise, mum's the word. The wait person is a lovely woman with a winning smile. The ambiance is plain, the restaurant is cozy, and the chairs make a gentle farting sound when you move in them, so be forwarned. They serve alcoholic drinks but we abstained. Go, it's worth it and the prices are very good.

I must say it was 10x better than my lunch! The place is quaint, with fuchsia/burgundy chair covers. It was a quiet Saturday night for them. I ordered the green curry with veggies. It didn't come with rice, but I was ok with it. I can drink the broth like a soup. There was lots of variety of veggies and it came hot. The broth was not salty at all which is excellent since I treated like a soup. My partner had the chicken pad Thai. The sauce was not overwhelming and was not sweet at all which was nice. They didn't forget that he wanted extra crushed peanuts. Overall it was a nice satisfying dinner to fill my tummy since the last two places were a disappointment (Blue Cactus and El Camino).

She has a review, so if you're bored reading mine, go read hers instead. I frankly wanted to simply say in this review to read hers and skip writing one... haha! We walked in. The lobby was beautiful and cozy, showcasing the Thai culture with dragons and more. We were seated pretty quickly. This restaurant had a lunch menu. Yay, deals! I got the gang garee gai. It was yellow curry with chicken and potatoes, in coconut milk, with steamed jasmine rice. My friend got the beef kao soi, which was a curry soup with noodles. We got a constant stream of iced water. Thank goodness! We were both in dire need of cooling down being out and about on a hot summer day. It also came in handy while we were dining. Our food didn't take long to prepare. I was excited to chow down. The gang garee gai was yummy. I liked the curry flavour. The chicken was tender. There were a few potatoes that lightly thickened the curry. I loved the subtle coconut milk in the sauce. The jasmine rice was perfectly done. The downside was that the curry was salty. My friend agreed with my assessment, as her soup was also salty. At least the sodium levels were consistent here. She also made the comment that her dish was lacking vegetables, except for a thin slice of red pepper. I could tell that this meal threw my thirst level off the rails for the rest of my day. I had six drinks after this meal, without counting the iced water refills here. I downed two consecutive bubble teas that night, which I rarely do. The positive from the salt increase in my system: I was not bloated afterwards. The washrooms are downstairs. It is an older building, so it's not built for accessibility. The washroom was clean. It's street parking here. You can probably find a side street to park for free. The service was excellent. If the salt is toned down, I'd return to try more dishes off the menu. Otherwise, expect to be thirsty all day after eating here. (287)
