So delicious from first bite to last. My husband wanted Thai and I wanted sushi and we both ended up sharing everything. If you like crispy delights, both the crispy roll (sushi) and the crispy catfish (Thai) were delicate and perfect combinations -don't neglect the raw ginger, it's there for a reason and creates the perfect bite. The canyon roll is a complete feast all by itself, but it didn't stop us from getting some pad see ew, too. Just yum. The Crab Angels are the best crab rangoons I've ever had, hands down - and I have eaten at several thai and sushi places in Charlotte! Everything was also fresh and ready to go when I ordered late on a Sunday night which I appreciate. The Tokyo Double sushi roll was also incredibly delicious, again of the best I've had. Seriously flavorful food at Thai Cafe! This is one of my regular spots, but I had taken a step back for a few months after the service had started to go downhill. Happy to say they are back on track! For appetizers, the basil rolls are fresh and delicious, served with a yummy dipping sauce. My favorite dish is the Pad See Ew with beef. Always tasty and served very hot (temperature) and can be made spicy or mild. Very generous with portions; I should say I take some home but I usually finish it. Close second favorite is the drunken noodles. The spicy coconut soup is absolutely fantastic, no other way to describe it, just great flavor. I have ordered this take out many times but its fun to order it there as its served up in a volcano pot. Can be eaten as a meal or shared. Full bar, some special martini's worth trying including the lychee martini. Restaurant is clean, you can almost always get a table even during busy times. Parking can be a bit tight with another popular restaurant nearby, but there are parking spaces behind the building and you can take the steps up if able. If there is any chance you have room for it, get the coconut cake! read more

We decided to come here on a Sunday evening for my dad's birthday. We had 6 adults and 2 kids and were sat right away. The inside is pretty standard strip mall restaurant decor, but it's clean and has good options for bigger groups. We were greeted immediately by a friendly waitress who took our drink order. It would be great to see more draft beer options, but they do have a good selection of cocktails and wine by the bottle or glass. We got an order of the dumplings and edamame. You can't really mess up edamame, but the dumplings are really good - slightly spicy but definitely not too much. They were having a BOGO sushi deal, so we ordered a ton of sushi rolls. You wouldn't think a Thai place has great sushi, but it was actually super fresh and well made. I also like that they don't drown the rolls in sauce. I think my favorites were the Samurai, the Canyon, and the Florida rolls, but really everything was delicious. Ok, the coconut cake - just get it! So, so yummy, and I don't even like coconut. This one of the best Thai places I've had in the area. We got the Crab angels and chicken dumplings for appetizers and they were great. The sauce that came with them was so good. We got the Larb salad, shrimp pad Thai, and Massaman curry for our main. Everything was the perfect mix of savory and spicy. My family of 4 just got back from dinner at Thai Cafe and everything was so delicious. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and everyone was very friendly. We had chicken pad Thai, green curry, veggie medley and ginger and mushroom with pork. We also had some sushi, spring rolls and crab angels and everything was delicious. We've been coming to Thai Cafe for years and we love the food, but the service tonight was probably the worst service I've ever received, EVER, at any restaurant. When we arrived we probably waited 5min up front before ever being acknowledged, we get to our table and 10min probably passed before a lady came to our table to take our drink orders. Apparently she wasn't even our waitress some other guy was. She dropped off our drinks and the first time we met him was when he came to get our food order. It was a little busy but the other servers seemed to be managing all of their tables just fine. We didn't order any appetizers and we were prepared to wait 30-40min for our meals on a Friday but he never once stopped by after 20min to check in, I had to get another waitress's attention to get more drinks. 10min later our food (3 entrees) comes out, brought by someone from the kitchen. He brings my one entree and that was the last we'd ever see of him. He never once stopped by after our food came out to see how we were or if we needed anything. We finished our food and our plates sat in front of us for 10min before I flagged down the same waitress that helped us earlier and asked for the check, she was kind enough to clear our table too and apologized for his bad service. Her name was May/Mae (sp?). I refused to leave this guy more than a dollar, instead I gave a tip to May/Mae. To be flat out ignored the entire time is unacceptable. The food... not a single thing wrong with the food. The kitchen did a great job, the food was delicious but what good is that if half the dining experience is the service and the service is absolutely horrible? For those still interested, we had the Chicken Massaman, Chicken Pad Thai, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and the kids Chicken Katzu. I doubt we'll return, there are other Thai restaurants I'd rather do the drive to that offer much better service and the food is just as good. Sorry. read more

Excellent coconut tofu soup. Enough spice to slow me from drinking it, forcing me to savor the taste. Happily would take more tofu in the soup but I would always agree to more. Fried tofu is light, fresh, not greasy, and sauce was tangy with chopped peanuts in it. I would prefer a Thai peanut sauce like you'd have with satay but this was good as well. Just personal preference. As an aside, they serve satay as well so I could have asked for the sauce. I'll bet it is great. Masaman curry with tofu AND veggies was good. Great flavors. I would love to see more avocado in it though because this is a STAPLE of the dish. Plated beautifully despite missing a main ingredient. The mound of rice also was fresh. Hidden jewel in the heart of Wake Forest ! I had driven in front of this place multiple times but from the outside it didn't catch my eye. So a friend of mine invited me to come here yesterday. There were not too many people so I worried at the beginning. We decided to ask the waitress for recommendations and every single one of them was spot on !! Beef satay and dumplings were awesome ! The Panang curry and drunken noodles were also excellent ! I liked that the "medium spice" that was advertised on the drunken noodles was in my opinion a perfect "medium" . As a dessert the coconut cake was amazing ! There was a sign at the entrance that showed the prizes won by that cake so it made perfect sense. Service was also excellent ! The best thing I have to say about this place is the coconut soup - it's on point. The sushi was horrible, the worst I've ever had. The kind that when you taste it, you know you shouldn't eat any more of it unless you want to be up all night. They offered to replace it with another roll, but the other one was not fresh and I didn't eat that one either. I ordered pad Thai, because most Thai restaurants do a decent job at that dish. This was the worst pad Thai I've ever had. It didn't even look like the authentic dish. I couldn't eat much of it because it was so overly sweet, with no sour or savory or spicy flavor, literally just sweet. A big disappointment and I won't be back. read more

My honey had tried this place when it first opened and has since then told me every time I mention it that it was just okay. However, based on numerous very stellar reviews, I insisted on trying it. The waitress we had was very nice, service was good. The food is just okay. And really, it is all about the food for me. I ordered my all time favorite, the Drunken Noodles, which had 2 peppers pictured beside it on the menu; the honey ordered his favorite, Pad See Ew. You do get plenty of food, I'm sure if I hadn't been hungry enough to butter my arm and start eating, I wouldn't have finished it. So, obviously, it is not bad, but it's just good....not great...not ummmm, I can't even talk because I've got to eat good. I felt that the basil was almost completely absent from my dish; the honey had basically the meat, the noodles, some sauce, maybe some egg and about 2 pounds of broccoli. So, my dish needed to knock it up to 3 peppers AND put some darn basil in it. I can't say what may have fixed his food. I did order that famous coconut cake, and it was the star of the dinner! On the way home from the airport I asked the hubs to make a turn to head in the direction of Thai Cafe. We'd seen it before, but being on a direct route to Shuckers it was hard to distract him. This time he agreed - since I just got back from a week long work trip - I would get to call the shots. I entered the Thai Cafe and was greeted by multiple people. Asking for a to go order they sent me to the bar and I looked over the menu. I found some of our favorites (from other Thai restaurants) and narrowed down the selections. We ended up with 1 order of Basil Rolls, 1 order of Thai Sausage (this was a new thing for us), 1 order of Fried Rice, and 1 order of Chicken Masaman with Avocado. I was asked if I would like a drink, but I said I was fine and took a seat at the entry. I waited for a while but took time to note the customer service which was top notch. Each employee was customer focused and before I knew it I had a glass of water and a straw in my hand. The decor is a middle of the road sunshiney yellow with some Thai references on the walls, but it is mostly neutral in decor. The only thing I found a bit strange was the music playing - top 40 hits of today. I think because I was just sitting there taking it all in, and not in conversation with someone, that I noticed it more than I would have under normal circumstances. However, I would suggest that we go with some more culturally diverse music here to help keep with the setting. (Just a suggestion.) The food was delivered, the door was held open for me, and I was on my way. The smell of the food in the car was amazing and when we arrived home we were not disappointed. The flavors of each dish were fantastic and the presentation (even in take out food containers) was still nicely done. The Thai Sausage was something we'd never had and the sweet and sour taste of the dish was irresistible! The Basil Rolls were so fresh and so flavorful that they were better than any we'd ever tasted! We're thankful for the take out menu so we can make this a habit, and we're no longer sad that Taste of Thai is gone. read more

Cons: Tried this place for the first time and we had the Thai sausage (which turned out to just be more like the traditional Chinese sausage), fried squid (bland batter but decently big in size), papaya salad was bland, massaman chicken curry and shrimp pad Thai were both a little too sweet. This is another "Thai" & "Sushi" place, a combo that seems to have a prominent popularity in the Raleigh/Durham area. Nestled into a small strip mall on Rogers Rd in Wake Forest, you have to know exactly where you're going in order to find this little gem. If you can find Shuckers, you can find Thai Cafe'! Seating was prompt for a Friday night, which tells me there aren't enough people that know about this place. The sashimi appetizer was very good, took a little while but still very good. We were seated in a perfect place to watch the sushi chef from a short distance away, and he was quite the busy guy. "Crab Angels" was shouted out via messaging when we checked in so we had to try it! Yum! Our main dishes seemed to take awhile and our server was very apologetic. I think they had to either pluck the chicken for my bride's dish, or bring in the nets for mine and thus - the loss of the one star. The spicy seafood & veggies dish was definitely spicy, definitely had seafood and was the perfect portion for a gluttonous someone who is always afraid they're going to overeat (in other words, they didn't over do it on the portion). My bride couldn't finish her meal so I helped her... yes, I finished it for her. I have no idea what the dish was called but it was pretty darn tasty! Dessert, was coconut cake. This was our first visit to Thai Cafe, and may be our last. We were excited to check it out, as it's only a few minutes from our home, and we both have frequently enjoyed Thai food in the past. The restaurant's decor is pleasant but unremarkable. Patrons were dressed casually: everything from khakis and jeans to running shorts (!). We had egg rolls as an appetizer. Three small rolls were served with a sweet duck-type sauce. The rolls were crispy and good. My wife had Sweet and Sour Chicken, and I ordered Chicken Pad Thai. The s/s was ok, but nothing special. The Pad Thai, however, was a major disappointment. The noodles were badly overdone, and their consistency was mushy. The dish's flavor was perfectly ok, but the lack of texture was a turn off. Perhaps we'll try Thai Cafe again sometime, but this first visit wasn't very encouraging. read more
