Pad Sew Ew
Anson L.

I came by on a whim during an outing. I was told that this was their favourite spot for Thai food in the city. I admired their enthusiasm and was down to try it. I ordered the pad sew ew. I'm usually obsessed with it at Thai Express. I also grabbed the Thai milk tea to drink. I thought their serving of it was quite good. The pad sew ew i didn't feel as great about. It felt kinda underseasoned. The noodles didn't seem to have the right amount of cook either. Maybe it was just a bad day but not a great first impression. I'd be down to come back and try something else still.

Upon first glance, the restaurant has very limited seating and no public restrooms. However, they make up with their fast and personal service. If you find a seat after you order, they will bring out the plate of hot food to you! There's a self serve water station and it's a no-nonsense spot.

Very cramped space, hard to accommodate our party of 7. But the food was great! I got the Pad Mee with chicken for $13.50, and the portion was huge!

Ok....how do I put this delicately.... The quality of the Pad Thai's were extremely poor....I'll explain why. The rice noodles were overcooked and stuck together, which could only mean one thing....they pre-cooked the noodles then refrigerated it then reheated it, and not fresh....oh and they don't know how to cook noodles. Stingy on the protein (beef and pork), and whatever protein there was it was extremely tough. The pork tasted and looked like a door mat and the prawns were not cut/detailed. Not surprisingly I had indigestion all night. Honestly, it was probably the worst Pad Thai I've had so far.

Pad Sew Ew, Pad Thai & Sprint Rolls

Had a Thai craving and decided to check out Thai Basil. I ordered delivery which sometimes lowers the quality and can't speak on what the in restaurant experience is like. Spring Rolls - 7/10 They were good but not my favorite. I live for a good spring roll and they were just missing something. They also didn't have any carrot in them as described on their website. It was strictly cabbage with some vermicelli. The one pro was that they were not greasy which you often find with spring rolls. Pad Thai with Chicken - 7/10 I was pleasantly surprised to see two shrimp included in my chicken pad thai. I'm not sure if that was an error or how their orders come. The portion was large for lunch (enough for leftovers - which is always appreciated). There was nothing wrong but again, nothing extremely memorable either. Pad Sew Ew - 8/10 Super tasty but I'd say it's hard to go wrong with some egg noodles, veggies and protein. I wasn't a fan of the side salad that came with the orders. The flavor of the dressing wasn't too my liking - but i think that's just a personal preference. The veggies seemed clean and fresh.

I'm not crazy about this place. I thought it was alright. It's really small. Can probably only accommodate 10 people at a time. I think this place is meant for take out. I ordered a Pad Thai and it's too dry for my liking. The menu items are reasonably priced considering its downtown location. The place is neat and the service is friendly. That's everything I can say about this place.

thai basil was my to-go restaurant when i was a student because of the amazing price point and authentic taste. I grew up in Thailand and I find most of the thai restaurant in this city "fancify" the food and ambience so much, but none of those in that basil. This place provides average service, street foodish/minimal ambience, and good portion, which is what I look for in a authentic thai restaurant. we ordered tom ga kai. This is tom yum with evaporated milk, and we loved it! there were lots of ingredients with different textures for you to enjoy: cubed chicken breast, mushroom, veggies etc. A soup that is perfect order for both summer and winter and anytime really :) Thai basil is known for their curries within my friend circle haha. We ordered their weekly special: keang phed saparod ped. Think red curry with pineapple with duck. An interesting combination, in my opinion, but it worked out ok. Would want to try their massaman next. for dessert, I got mango sticky rice. the sticky rice is a bit over cooked (mushy) and they were a bit stingy on the coconut milk. the mango was stringy. but overall a solid mango sticky rice because honestly you cannot go wrong with this dish.

Had ordered six dishes for three people but it could easily serve two meals so it is like six people. The food is very flavorful and we ordered tofu as the protein and I liked how the tofu was different types in each of the dishes for example some was soft and others was fried. My favorite dish was the fried rice. Highly recommend.

Basil pork rice

Really disappointing this time. The pad krap pao pork was so blend in flavour and ingredients. I understand the costs are up but charging more for less is frustrating for loyal customers. Will take a break and try out other options.

Finally a Thai restaurant in Vancouver with HOLY BASIL for their pad gra pao! Other places call it that but uses Thai basil which are not the same. Thank you thank you kob khun ka

Yikes! Ordered pineapple fried rice, and the pineapples were missing! Overload on white onion chunks, no pineapples :(.

Green curry with chicken lunch special

I was just walking around and decided to pop by here to grab lunch since their Green Curry Lunch Special seemed appealing. The restaurant itself is a small little place with very cute vintage decorations like mail boxes and a cute bike. The food was OK, it wasn't too flavourful and there was hardly any spiciness. And the salad on the side was just really sad.

Usually, that would be enough to make me look elsewhere. This time, I took a chance, and I'm glad I did. The stall is run by a genuinely friendly couple, and the service was impressively quick. My order was ready in about five minutes and handed to me with a bright smile. There was something refreshing about that kind of service. No fuss, no long wait, just a warm greeting and a hot meal. I ordered the shrimp pad Thai combo for $16.75, just a little more than the roughly $15 regular dish. The combo comes with a pop, soup and spring roll. The pad Thai arrived loaded with crunchy crushed peanuts, crisp vegetables and savoury shrimp. The noodles were soft and chewy, while the vegetables and peanuts brought plenty of crunch and contrast. There was a nice balance of sweet, savoury and tangy flavours, with the shrimp adding a deeper savoury note throughout. I went with medium spice, which turned out to be just right. There was enough heat to warm me up without overwhelming the food. The spice lingered on the palate, giving each bite a pleasant kick while still allowing the other flavours to come through. What I enjoyed most was how much the food reminded me of home cooking. It did not feel mass-produced or thrown together simply because it was lunchtime. There was a certain care in it, like someone had taken the time to make a proper meal. For around the same price as something you might get from a school cafeteria, this was considerably more satisfying. The soup was the one weak point. It was essentially hot water with a little salt and cilantro, and I could have done without it. The spring roll was much better, adding some crispness to the meal. Little Bangkok may have been the quiet stall, but the food gave me a reason to stop. Fresh ingredients, well-balanced flavours, a satisfying mix of textures and just enough spice made the pad Thai genuinely enjoyable. Add the remarkably fast service and the warmth of the couple running the stall, and this was one lunch-hour gamble that paid off.

Every time I come, I can feel the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff. From seating to ordering, and then to the care during the meal, everything is done with great finesse, making me feel comfortable and at ease. Whether it's the freshness of the ingredients, the presentation, or the taste, you can feel the attention to detail. Japanese cuisine emphasizes the quality of the ingredients themselves, and Miku presents this refinement beautifully. Every dish is pleasing to the eye and has a layered flavor. I also love the ambiance. The overall design is simple, elegant, and has a very comfortable Japanese aesthetic. The lighting, seating, and spatial layout all create a relaxing atmosphere without feeling overly decorated; instead, they have a high-quality feel. The restaurant is located on a busy street and is unassuming/easy to miss so I'm glad my boyfriend pointed it out for us to try with some friends. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share. They all arrived relatively quickly and my favourites were the pad thai and the khao soi. The pad thai was fragrant and on the sweeter side which I like. I also liked the fresh raw bean sprouts on the side. The khao soi was curry noodles with tender beef and crispy egg noodles. The curry was very flavourful with a hint of heat and sweetness. This was also my first time trying curry noodles at a Thai restaurant. The green curry was filled with bamboo shoots, peppers, and a good amount of chicken. The flavour from the bamboo shoots really comes through as well. For the crab fried rice, it came with a spicy sauce and pickled vegetables. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough to go around so I didn't get a chance to get a good taste of it with the rice. However, I scooped some curry sauce from the khao soi onto the crab friend rice and it was delicious! Finally, we tried the mango sticky rice and my goodness, it was so pretty! The rice was warm and sweet which paired beautifully with the slightly tart mango. I'll definitely have to come back to have more of the khao soi noodles!
