    Beef Pad Thai
    Mori N.

Ok....how do I put this delicately.... The quality of the Pad Thai's were extremely poor....I'll explain why. The rice noodles were overcooked and stuck together, which could only mean one thing....they pre-cooked the noodles then refrigerated it then reheated it, and not fresh....oh and they don't know how to cook noodles. Stingy on the protein (beef and pork), and whatever protein there was it was extremely tough. The pork tasted and looked like a door mat and the prawns were not cut/detailed. Not surprisingly I had indigestion all night. Honestly, it was probably the worst Pad Thai I've had so far.

Had a Thai craving and decided to check out Thai Basil. I ordered delivery which sometimes lowers the quality and can't speak on what the in restaurant experience is like. Spring Rolls - 7/10 They were good but not my favorite. I live for a good spring roll and they were just missing something. They also didn't have any carrot in them as described on their website. It was strictly cabbage with some vermicelli. The one pro was that they were not greasy which you often find with spring rolls. Pad Thai with Chicken - 7/10 I was pleasantly surprised to see two shrimp included in my chicken pad thai. I'm not sure if that was an error or how their orders come. The portion was large for lunch (enough for leftovers - which is always appreciated). There was nothing wrong but again, nothing extremely memorable either. Pad Sew Ew - 8/10 Super tasty but I'd say it's hard to go wrong with some egg noodles, veggies and protein. I wasn't a fan of the side salad that came with the orders. The flavor of the dressing wasn't too my liking - but i think that's just a personal preference. The veggies seemed clean and fresh.

I'm not crazy about this place. I thought it was alright. It's really small. Can probably only accommodate 10 people at a time. I think this place is meant for take out. I ordered a Pad Thai and it's too dry for my liking. The menu items are reasonably priced considering its downtown location. The place is neat and the service is friendly. That's everything I can say about this place.

thai basil was my to-go restaurant when i was a student because of the amazing price point and authentic taste. I grew up in Thailand and I find most of the thai restaurant in this city "fancify" the food and ambience so much, but none of those in that basil. This place provides average service, street foodish/minimal ambience, and good portion, which is what I look for in a authentic thai restaurant. we ordered tom ga kai. This is tom yum with evaporated milk, and we loved it! there were lots of ingredients with different textures for you to enjoy: cubed chicken breast, mushroom, veggies etc. A soup that is perfect order for both summer and winter and anytime really :) Thai basil is known for their curries within my friend circle haha. We ordered their weekly special: keang phed saparod ped. Think red curry with pineapple with duck. An interesting combination, in my opinion, but it worked out ok. Would want to try their massaman next. for dessert, I got mango sticky rice. the sticky rice is a bit over cooked (mushy) and they were a bit stingy on the coconut milk. the mango was stringy. but overall a solid mango sticky rice because honestly you cannot go wrong with this dish.

Really disappointing this time. The pad krap pao pork was so blend in flavour and ingredients. I understand the costs are up but charging more for less is frustrating for loyal customers. Will take a break and try out other options.

Had ordered six dishes for three people but it could easily serve two meals so it is like six people. The food is very flavorful and we ordered tofu as the protein and I liked how the tofu was different types in each of the dishes for example some was soft and others was fried. My favorite dish was the fried rice. Highly recommend.

Yikes! Ordered pineapple fried rice, and the pineapples were missing! Overload on white onion chunks, no pineapples :(.

Finally a Thai restaurant in Vancouver with HOLY BASIL for their pad gra pao! Other places call it that but uses Thai basil which are not the same. Thank you thank you kob khun ka

Green curry with chicken lunch special

I was just walking around and decided to pop by here to grab lunch since their Green Curry Lunch Special seemed appealing. The restaurant itself is a small little place with very cute vintage decorations like mail boxes and a cute bike. The food was OK, it wasn't too flavourful and there was hardly any spiciness. And the salad on the side was just really sad.

We were seated next to a window, and it was nice to look out at the happenings on the water near the cruise port. They were very accommodating of our daughter. We made several special requests to accommodate her (sophisticated for her age but still toddler) palate. She loved the meal as much as we did. We ordered some (bento-style) lunch options and the flavours were all divine. It was a ton of food but we felt obliged to eat it all because it was so delicious. The pressed sushi was amazing. All the fish was super fresh. Although it is an expensive restaurant (as most sushi restaurants are), we felt the price was fair for the quality. The only thing I would say is that I wish they started lunch a little earlier than noon. We had a reservation for 12pm noon and arrived a few minutes early. We were the first ones there. Although they were nice enough to allow us to sit in the entrance lobby while we waited, upon opening at noon they took other reservations ahead of ours.

The unfortunate downside for getting a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Butter Beef - beefy, garlicky, herby, tangy, sweet, it's got a little bit of everything. Very tender Trieu Chau Fried Rice - this dish is fantastic. One of the better fried rice dishes I have had. It has the wok hay and I would have been perfectly happy just to eat this as a meal Phnom Penh Chicken Wings - the first bite I had, I was not impressed. I dipped it in the lemon juice with pepper and it had some crisp, but was really lacking in flavor. Then we found a small pile of fried garlic near the bottom of the plate. That's where all the salt and flavor was. We put that onto the wings and they were quite good. Wish that was just set to the side at the beginning. Green Papaya Salad - this thing is packed with flavor. I liked it quite a bit, but I thought the beef jerky was an oddball ingredient Filet Beef Luc Lac - thinly sliced beef that is tender and covered in a silky sauce. It was quite salty so it went well with our rice. No major complaints about any of the food and I thought they had some pretty unique takes on dishes. The restaurant is located on a busy street and is unassuming/easy to miss so I'm glad my boyfriend pointed it out for us to try with some friends. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share. They all arrived relatively quickly and my favourites were the pad thai and the khao soi. The pad thai was fragrant and on the sweeter side which I like. I also liked the fresh raw bean sprouts on the side. The khao soi was curry noodles with tender beef and crispy egg noodles. The curry was very flavourful with a hint of heat and sweetness. This was also my first time trying curry noodles at a Thai restaurant. The green curry was filled with bamboo shoots, peppers, and a good amount of chicken. The flavour from the bamboo shoots really comes through as well. For the crab fried rice, it came with a spicy sauce and pickled vegetables. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough to go around so I didn't get a chance to get a good taste of it with the rice. However, I scooped some curry sauce from the khao soi onto the crab friend rice and it was delicious! Finally, we tried the mango sticky rice and my goodness, it was so pretty! The rice was warm and sweet which paired beautifully with the slightly tart mango. I'll definitely have to come back to have more of the khao soi noodles!
