First of all, my opinion ---as a Thai, who could cook both simple stir fry sugar snap peas to something complicated as red/green curry roast duck---- could be more severe. We used to prepare a holidays feast for twenty of my students and their families. Since 16th to 17th century. Thai food has been developed under the Khmer regime as Siamese cuisine all the way to the Rama dynasty, One poet called Soonthorn Phuu' had even detailed reminiscence about the cooking of his loved on. And King Rama V wrote a string of difficult poems on foods as well. [Current king at the present is Rama the tenth.] Now, back to food at the restaurant ;- Yesterday evening, my husband,--- who had been to the Thai Basil place with his colleagues before,--- suggested a stop there since we were close by already . I was excited for never knowing of its existence till then. The room was large--a good size, but tables were bare--no table-clothes or silverware setup. All the tables looked typical of some melamine top with a pattern of common black marble-stone. The place was almost empty, except for two tables nearby. Hmm peaceful I thought. We sat and ordered a few snack dishes. Apart from a dish of Tod Muun Koong (shrimp cakes), the foods, curry dish plus a bowl of rice . were slaughtered out of the kitchen as if the cook was away and left her dishwasher person in charge of cooking. They could not cook even some plain white rice--all in lump and gluey --(yuk!) The curry dish on our table was a combination of some thick coconut milk and a spoon or two of chili paste from the usual envelope of Thai curry spices--then jazzed up with fish sauce that one can both smell and taste.. We did not eat much. And I threw out the take-away that my husband bothered to pack home They would do better to open a grocery store for oriental foods. I saw quite a few Thai grocery stores with a front section displaying plates or paper boxes of cooked foods. My husband has been saying this for forty years that snacks are the best part of Thai foods--in his opinion. We left cash with the billing check and walked out. I threw out the take away. Tonight we have a wonderful Japanese meal at one great place in Chantilly. I don't mind supporting them one bit. But to charge decent money from people, a restaurant is OBLIGED to render decent dishes that are pleasing to the palate. read more

I just love this place so hard that I need to throw down another 5 star review for them. This is our go to for when me and my spouse look at each other and say "do you really want to cook tonight?" They always pull through. Even right around dinner hour, our carry out is done in 15 minutes. It's hot, fresh, and made exactly how we want - extra hot for me Thai hot for my spouse. I love their papaya salad with shrimp, pad kra prow, green curry, spring roll, Thai iced tea, the list goes on. The interior is clean, the staff is prompt and friendly. Deserving of another big 5! What a pleasant surprise! I decided to stop by for lunch and after pulling into their private parking lot, was greeted and shown to a table in the dining room. The dining room was basically divided by a center row created from the backs of the booth seating for 4-top tables. Another row of tables was available for standard table seating by the windows on each side. I went with one of the $9 lunch specials and a large cup of Jasmine tea. The specials come with a bowl of lightly spiced soup (I believe lemongrass) that was quite tasty! Nearly as soon as I finished my soup, my entree and remaining sides were delivered. The lunch special also includes a small side salad with a ginger based dressing and a crispy spring roll (veggie) that comes with a sweet dipping sauce (not too thick, but not runny either.) Both were pleasant tasting without any heavy or dominant flavors. The sides were included on the same plate as the main course, the Pad See Ewe. The plate was a full 12" across, so I'm talking about a lot to eat! The Pad See Ewe was cut into large pieces (no knife is included in the initial tableware delivered at the time of seating.) Fortunately, I have a big mouth and was able to devour the lunch without requesting a knife, but either they should cut them a bit smaller or you may have to spear and bite or ask for a knife. I got my choice of protein with the Pad See Ewe, and went with the pork option. There was a generous helping of meat that was right on the edge of being a little too done, but when combined with the large flat noodles (Yeah!) and the veggies, the meat was fine. I also like that they include colorful veggies in the mix: Bright orange carrots, deep green broccoli, and some light green cabbage (I was surprised how delicious the cabbage was with the sauce they include in the dish!) I've seen Pad See Ewe other places that came out a dull brown color. This dish looked as appetizer as it tasted! I also was given a choice of spiciness, and went with the "Medium". That level is one where you taste the heat immediately, but it doesn't escalate from there as you eat more. Yes, the sinuses got a good workout, but I didn't feel there was any need to drink something after each bite. The service was friendly, but not intrusive. They checked in on my after I received my entree and had a chance to eat some before asking how I liked it. And the check was collected and processed quickly too. I could easily have dined here during a lunch break. Overall, a really good place to dine and a lunch offering that is competitive with the best Thai places I've tried in the metro area. Ok let's go ahead and get this out of the way. The restaurant opened yesterday. The entire town of brownsburg is trying to have lunch and dinner here at once so I will say the servers and cooks are overwhelmed. We were seated within 15 minutes of arriving. The gentleman took our drink and food order at the same time. I have the mild Thai fried rice and my husband had the pad Thai mild. We also ordered some tofu salad rolls. Both of the main dishes came within 20 min. The rolls never came. I will say the food was hot and good but I feel they forgot spice. For the price point I would have liked a small salad like other restaurants give. I was bummed they forgot the rolls but I was full from the rice anyway. It was a bit odd in here because people just kept complaining. They didn't have silverware but they also didn't have food yet. I feel you have to have some understanding when a restaurant first opens. This used to be a long john silvers but they have erased all signs of that. The tables do se m a bit close to one another. I would recommend that they start a list for names if there are people waiting. There were many waiting but nobody knew who was next. Give this place time and they will become the star restaurant of Brownsburg. read more

Brownsburg's newest restaurant did not disappoint! I took my brother here for dinner a few days ago, and we really enjoyed ourselves. While the prices were far above my fresh-out-of-college budget (and I probably won't be going back unless someone else is paying) the food was well worth it. The wait staff was friendly, and the ambiance was great! They really fixed that old Long John's up! Okay, so my brother ordered the seafood dish... Seafood Madness, I believe? He loved it. He said the broth was the best he's ever tasted and all of the seafood was very well cooked. I ordered the teriyaki dish with chicken and I substituted the white rice for fried. I love fried rice, and I take it very seriously. This fried rice was INCREDIBLE. So, so, so good. I didn't even find myself wanting to reach for any sauces. It was made in such a way that I did not feel the need to add anything on my own. The steamed vegetables alongside my chicken was also great. The teriyaki sauce was delectable, and overall the dish was fantastic. In all, I highly recommend this place to everyone, even if it's just to try it out once. It won't disappoint! read more

We just happened to drive by one day and decided to try it. Because we are both vegetarians, we eat a lot of rice and veggies so it was a win. We dined in and the staff was sweet and accommodating. It was about 3 in the afternoon so nobody was there although 2 ppl came in for carry out. The Vegetable fried rice is outstanding and comes with a ton of veggies and they happily added an additional egg in substitution for no meat. I had the crab rangoon and have no complaints. It actually had crab in it and not just a fried blob of cream cheese. We were happy to learn they were still offering carryout during the pandemic and gladly supported this small business as part of our humanitarian duty a couple times during the lockdown. Enjoyed a Valentines Day meal here last night. First, other places can feel rather compact at times. I am glad we came here as the layout provided ample room between tables which allowed our meal experience to feel more personal. As for the food, choosing a starter was the most difficult decision. We traditionally get crab Rangoon or calamari where offered, and both were available. Tonight however, the dumplings for an appetizer delivered on juicy flavorful bites we enjoyed. We also shared a bowl of Tum Yum soup that was packed with spice and flavor! My entree was the red curry. A full flavored choice that was more than I could finish. I was a regular costumer at Thai Basil (in-person and delivery) and had solid experiences there for years. On a recent Saturday, I tried to order food via grubhub delivery. I ordered items that were listed and was told it would take 50 minutes for delivery. After a hour, I received a call from the grubhub driver saying that I needed to cancel my order since it was on the lunch menu. When I ask to speak to the restaurant, one of the managers grabbed their phone and demanded for me to cancel the order. When I asked why they approved my grub order, I was not given an answer and just demanded to cancel the order. My next step was for me to contact grubhub to find a solution to this. During that time, I was called 6 times by Thai Basil and when I switched over to their call, the asked me on why I hadn't cancel my prior order and that I needed to reorder from the dinner menu. No apology from them and their continued harassment just ruined my experience. Grubhub admitted that Thai Basil failed to update their menu and apologized for my experience. They were extremely disappointed to hear that Thai Basil accepted my order and never fulfilled it. Also, if it was from the wrong menu, why not an earlier phone call and not wait a hour until the driver arrived to notified me. The demands to cancel my order and reorder items (and wait at least another hour to get food) were very disrespectful. If they were able to see my card statements from all the times I ate there in person, plus all the orders on DoorDash and Grubhub (10 times since I started grubhub in December 2022), they would notice how loyal of a customer I was. Not anymore. I love to support local businesses, but I will go elsewhere for my Pad Thai fix. A simple apology would have done wonders. read more

I especially love their Crab Rangoons, which have big chunks of crab, and I would eat the chicken Rama Delight every day if I could. Fantastic Thai restaurant! Growing up in Muncie, Thai Smile will always be my favorite by default. However, Thai Basil gives it a run for its money. My wife and I went on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and the experience was excellent. The interior is modern, clean, and welcoming. Service was attentive, food came out VERY quickly, and prices were better than expected. We really appreciated the sizable lunch menu. All items are $8.99 and come with a lemongrass soup, side salad, and spring roll. The spring roll was crisped to perfection and the complimentary soup had a nice citrus/lemon flavor unlike most bland soups that come with lunch combos. Man am I glad to finally have a good Thai restaurant nearby! I came in here tonight with a large party (about 20 of us!) and we were seated promptly (we called ahead - this is a pretty small building), served quickly, and treated well! But the real kicker is the food - and I tried so much of it. I tried three different curries that my friends ordered all of them were delicious. My favorite of the three was the duck curry, and I plan on ordering it the next time I'm in. I also sampled the thai iced tea, fried rice (delicious), spring rolls, and orange chicken as well as some other dishes with names I never got. All were so good. The only dish I personally didn't care for was the one I ordered: Rama Delight. I don't fault the restaurant for this, however, it was just my personal taste. It says "sweet" on the menu - I just didn't realize how sweet. One of my friends said it best, it tasted like it had a creamy peanut butter sauce. Maybe I would have liked it more if I had ordered it with more spice - still, I won't go for this next time. I include this information in case someone else is thinking about this dish so they might know how it tastes. A couple other people in my party really liked it - and I ended up giving the rest to them. :) In short, I can't wait to come back. And I plan to. Soon. read more

I should have photographed the food. Every plate that came from the kitchen was beautifully arranged with delicious looking entrees or appetizers. But that wasn't even the beginning. When we walked in we were greeted immediately and shown to our table. The restaurant is nicely decorated with impeccable taste (no pun intended). There was balance in the artwork and clean lines so you felt comfortable and interested to look around. Shelves of wine at the front let you know right away that wine is not just an option but can be a major part of your meal. We ordered an appetizer and then each an entree - a simple meal, yet what we got was art as well as culinary delight. Vegetables were not over cooked so you knew they were top quality. The chicken was perfect and the sauces were spiced exactly as we requested. I had the medium spicy and it was just right- the heat did not outdo the flavors in the dish. Yah, we'll be back for sure.
