Great longtime favorite of Thai cuisine in Chicago, one of the city's best. It doesn't look like much of a restaurant, but the food makes up for it. Thai Aree is about as authentic for flavor and spice as you can get, and it gets really spicy. Has a pretty well rounded menu of classic items to choose from. Prices are pretty okay for the portions and quality. After hearing such great things about it, we made our way here. It's kind of a small place. This is in a pretty boring area on Milwaukee Avenue with not much around it but garages and that kind of stuff. Also the building looked crappy. Of course we are skeptical. Anyway, we ordered because we were already here. It's about $11 for an entree, and we each got noodles. Also you have a protein choice. We each got these with tofu. As for the spice, we got medium. She had the Pad Thai. It looked pretty good, but the spice was the key. This was medium but still pretty spicy. I got the Pad See Ewe. This was a choice of stir fried thin or wide rice noodles. Got it with the wide ones which were good. This had broccoli, Chinese broccoli, eggs which I left out, and choice of protein, and I got the tofu. Creamy and hot. The very spicy level would have just overwhelmed the flavor it seems. Has to be a consideration if looking for authentic Thai food. It recently had a renovation. I'd quite been looking forward to trying this mom-and-pop Thai food option. They offered to make our curries completely vegetarian (with no fish sauce). And the curries still tasted good - depth of flavors and good consistency. The curry fried rice was the real star. I want to start off with the service of this place. It is honestly amazing. The man who picked up the phone to take orders is so sweet and welcoming. I have a pretty weak stomach so I don't usually order from random places but this is my go-to Thai place. I never ever get sick from here. Great spot for Thai food. We got the pad kee mao and chicken larb salad, medium spice. Nice amount of kick and super flavorful, not bland at all. Gave us extra dry spices just in case but we didn't need it. Lots of other options on the menu as well. Just a heads up, it's take-out only from 4-8pm. Owner is a super cute and friendly dude. Be nice to him and he'll be nice to you (we got a complimentary piece of watermelon and extra rice without asking because they had extra at the time; not guaranteed though). Finally, A New Updated Menu January 2021 Thai Aree House is one of my Absolute Favorite Thai Restaurants in Old Irving Park Neighborhood. It has been around for about 30+ years & still going strong! Eddie & Ann are an Amazing Team. No matter how busy the restaurant is the food still taste the same! The Quality & Quantity is why i come back. Everything just taste so Delicous! My personal favorites are the Mixed Satay (love there peanut sauce), Fresh Garlic Beef (love the fresh slices of garlic on top), Tom Kha Vegetable Soup (coconut broth is very light but flavorful & love that the vegetables are crunchy. Please be patient with this restaurant. They do get very busy but everything is made to order. HIghly Recommend to try it!!! read more

Ordered food over the phone and was told it would be 20 minutes. I walked in 25 minutes later and they told me another 10 minutes so I waited in my car. After 10 minutes I was told another 10 minutes. Finally after 45 minutes of waiting I had my food and headed home. I ordered pad kee mao and pad thai, both were extremely sweet which is very odd. Unfortunately I've never had a good Thai food experience in Chicago so I came in with low expectations, but this was really disappointing. I definitely wouldn't order from here again. It may be acceptable for American pallets but if you've ever eaten good Thai food outside of the Midwest you will not enjoy this place. read more

During the pandemic this was a staple of ours. I've never eaten here in person but whenever we would go to pick up the food, the uncle in there was super nice. He would occasionally give free drinks or an extra appetizer when we would order there. The food also is top notch and delicious. It always hits the spot when looking for Thai food. We've tired quite a few things, and here are some of the all-day stars of their menu: - pad Kee Maw - basil chkn - red curry - pad Thai (my husband loves getting this with woonsen noodles) - basil fried rice (the flavor here cannot be beat) - the #50 with chkn... Just tried this place after soooo many years of seeing it. The main reason I never tried this place was because of its hours. Well I loved it cause when you order a dish HOT it comes HOT! I goto other thai restaurants and most of them make it mild when I want it spicy hot. It's spicy but still has great flavor. The people working there are extremely nice as well. I've been eating there for 18 years and it never disappoints. I've been there with all of my family and friends and everyone walks out wowed and come back on their own. Even after living in Wisconsin, I was happy to make the drive and join family there. There is no other Thai restaurant like this one. The owners, a wife and husband team, know all of their regular customers by name and it makes the experience even more memorable. Food is authentic, delicious, well prepared and never disappoints. I am not sure about the other 1 star reviews as I have never, in all of these years, seen anyone but the wife in the kitchen or had tasteless food (and I would know a Mexican because I am one). This place is incredible. An absolute neighborhood gem. And I don't even like Thai food that much! We went here on a double date on a Friday night at like 7pm. It was pretty busy with a good amount of takeout business coming in. BYOB, probably about a dozen or so tables. Great, small atmosphere. We had a coconut milk, lemongrass, chicken soup to start and followed up with a couple noodles, chicken, and beef dishes. Everything was fresh and delicious with incredible flavor and spice. The service and pace of the meal was great. The food, service, and overall experience was 10/10, and I can't wait to eat here again. Every time we've ordered something they've made suggestions on how best to enjoy it, from sauces we should try or things to add or things to mix together. It's really 3.2 but I rounded the other way. The places runs like a mom and pop shop. The wait staff was nice. The good: - The food prep feels very homestyle which is a nice change. (bonus: they don't put MSG in their dishes). - the fish cake appetizer was freshly fried and is accompanied with a cucumber side salad. It was big enough to be shared by 3-4 people. okay: - The Thai beef salad had a great flavor but the portion of the beef could be more compared to other restaurants. - I usually order basil chicken (pad krapro) as my go to test dish at a Thai restaurant I am trying for the 1st time. My initial reaction was how much it felt like home cooking. The portion could be a tad bigger. - Complimentary watermelon dessert at the end. Though you can tell the season is over cuz the color was dull. meh: - The biggest let down was the penang curry. it had crushed peanut paste that was not incorporated well. This place has been around for 36 years - can't get more local than that! The chef is from Thailand and cooks authentic/traditional Thai food. The pad Thai is one of the best I've ever had. Husband wife team have had this place open more than 30 years according to the owner. Had the pad Thai and it was the best version I've had. Even though it was the most basic dish, the flavors sang.
