I ordered a $100+ cake for my mom's 80th birthday for pick up on Saturday at 1pm. I arrived shortly after 1pm and was told the cake was not ready. NO apology, no offer for a discount. One of the employees asked me if they could get me anything while I waited. I replied, 'are tiu offering me a free cookie or cupcake?' She said, 'do you want to buy anything else while you wait.' I ordered a red velvet cake with burgundy icing for my daughter's 18th bday. When I ordered the cake I explained my daughter would be decorating her cake and I didn't need any decoration. When I picked up the cake there was a trim on the top and bottom. After a conversation with an extremely unprofessional employee I was told by another employee, who was pleasant, they would take off the trim and ice the cake again. I should have taken a closer look when they gave it back to me. It definitely does not look like it came from a professional bakery. I am so disappointed. Texas Star has been a tradition with my family for 30 years. Today, that has tradition has come to an end. This placed has messed up my daughter's wedding cake and her baby shower cake. I am so livid. They had no issues taking our money though, hope they don't have issues refunding it either. I would never recommend this bakery to anyone. Too many issues to list on today's cake. The most significant was a $50 "Pixar Ball" that they charged us for and did not even put in the cake. Ordered the cake 2 months ago. We showed up today to pick it up, was not ready until 2:45, and then we were told they were not able to complete it. Y'all have gone WAY down hill. This bakery is used by a member of the Dallas chapter of DAR. My daughter raved about the cakes at their meetings and for her birthday, she asked if we could have a marble cake from Texas Star. I've never bought a birthday cake in my life, so I figured it was time. So for my little girls 38th birthday, she finally got a bought cake! I told them to make it an Easter decorated marble cake. Festive and fun. It was all we hoped it would be. Tons of buttercream icing and super moist, delicious cake. I made the long trek to pick it up (about 50 miles) and it was ready as promised. What started out as a rough cake situation ended up being one of the best tasting and cutest birthday cakes! I ordered my husbands grill cake a week before I needed it. When I went to go pick it up yesterday morning the cake was nothing like I had requested. The kind woman behind the counter could see how upset I was (I was already having a rough morning and the messed up cake was the icing on top, ha). She immediately asked if she could make it right and if I could come get it in the afternoon. She gave me a big hug and apologized for the mess up. Stumbled on this adorable little bakery on my way to my chiropractor one day. Well, my husband actually stumbled on it. We ordered 4 cupcakes. And they were amazing. I was all about the cupcake hype years ago and stopped cause a person can only eat so many cupcakes! But this place is amazing! The frosting is super flavorful and not too thick or too sweet. The cake itself is moist and fluffy. We kept 2 cupcakes in our fridge for a week and even a week later they're still moist and fluffy. That's insane. My friends used this place for my bridal shower cake last year, and the almond cake was a big hit! It was both delicious and beautiful: It was three-tiered, had a basket weave and was floral. I was told it was about $100. More than easily fed 25 people with a ton of leftovers afterwards. Last week was my husband's birthday. His favorite cake is strawberry and I had every intention of making him one from scratch. I didn't get to carry through with it as planned (something about me having a baby). I didn't have anything planned ahead/ordered, and didn't want to get him a grocery store cake. That morning, I remembered this place and just decided to get whatever they had. I also like that they open really early, like 7am. Perfect for a mad dash in and out. Luckily, they had several cakes pre-made. That day, the cooler contained fudge, white, carrot, Italian cream, and strawberry(!). They had single and double layers; the double is listed for $18, and even just rings up $18. My husband loved the cake and the buttercream frosting. They are capable of some pretty cool cakes--they have an example of a half Star Wars/half Chinese dragon wedding cake sitting on top of the cooler. They also have tons of cupcakes ($2 apiece) in the display case. read more

So first the staff has always been super nice any time we've popped in for a spur of the moment treat for the kids when we happen to be here near Texas star bakery. They have a number of options from cookies to cupcakes available for walk in for a random treat day or a shoot I forgot to order ahead let me get a random assortment of items. Prices are very reasonable for a independent bakery, I had called a few places and they had the best price for a small birthday cake for a kids birthday. The part where I can't really rate more than 3 stars is that we've never really had anything that has knocked us out of the park taste wise, most things taste like what I could make at home. For every item we've tried I can name at least 2 places near by with a better version of that item though the other places may be slightly higher priced, and there are times I'm willing to pay that .50 cents to a dollar more for better taste. We will still keep Texas Star Bakery in our rotation for sure because we like supporting local, but isn't always on our top of list. read more

New to town, and I love taking my kids to bakeries that are featured in any magazine or on the food network. Cupcakes were good. We got the following: Coconut - the cake needs more coconut flavor, the center cream is too thick, the frosting is perfect! Chocolate fudge - the cake is moist, the frosting is too grainy Strawberry - the cake is perfectly moist (could use actual strawberries) the frosting is perfect Dr Pepper - cake moist, frosting could go without the drizzles of chocolate and white chocolate and just one frosting I would only get the strawberry one again for sure. The cupcakes are better than a grocery store bakery. To any regular customer these would be amazing cupcakes. We are just a cupcake/cake snob family lol.
