The dining area was spacious and there was plenty of seating inside. They had a patio area, too. There were about 15 other patrons besides us. Schulze seems to be a staple around Seguin and had a sweet history of its origin posted near the restroom. Ok, I know you want to know about the meat. We ordered brisket lean, turkey, and a rib. The seasoning was a bit too peppery for my liking. The brisket was a tad dry but the company I was with liked lean. I would have ordered a mixed one if by myself. The rib was big and meaty and had a nice balance of pepper and sweetness. I like my ribs slightly sweet. The sides we ordered were the chimichurri cucumbers (sounded interesting), potato salad, and beans. When I visit a place for the 1st time, I like to try the staples (beans and potato salad/not quite there yet to eating coleslaw). The sides were ok. I would return. There were some other interesting options like brisket tostada and maybe by then I'd be willing to try their coleslaw.

The sides are ordered at the counter as soon as you walk in. The potato salad was very good with enough mustard, but not so much that's it's overwhelming. The Beans had good flavor as well. We did try the banana pudding and that wasn't great. Everyone is super friendly. They have plenty of seating inside. Parking is street parking and you may have to walk depending how busy the area is.

The husband went for half a pound of brisket, potato salad and mashed. Me, two slices of brisket, two slices of turkey and potato salad. Two drinks. $69. Yikes. He cut my slices thick. Ha, ha. Th food was good, just a bit pricey. They were running a special of four chopped brisket sandwiches for $10.

He's always on a mission to try as many of Texas Monthly's Top 50 BBQ Joints as he can. We were in San Antonio for the weekend to celebrate our grandfather's birthday, but Seguin isn't too far away (45 minutes on a good day or an hour and 20 minutes on a day when they've closed down I-10 and made a mess of a traffic; the latter was our experience). Friends of his drove from different places to meet us and we met them in line. Texas Monthly hasn't released the 2026 list yet, but Burnt Bean Co. was number 1 on the list in 2025. NUMBER 1! So, yes, there will be a line. The first of our group arrived around 9 in the morning for an 11 am opening. There's a bit of cover where the line wraps from the front door, but we were definitely baking. People brought chairs, umbrellas, handheld fans, cold waters, and more to stay cool. It was still sooooo hot. People who arrived around 9 got in right at 11 and had BBQ in front of them by 11:10. People who got there around 10 got in maybe a half hour later. People who got there later had to wait closer to an hour and got in around 12. (I noticed this, because people in our group weren't all standing together in line.) Once inside, the restaurant is really nice: high ceilings, great AC, tons of tables, and an outside area, too (if you prefer to continue to sweat as you eat your BBQ). The service was incredibly friendly, too. Staff came by and asked however everything was, took empty plates/platters to help us make room, and were very friendly when we were ordering. Almost everything we ate was exceptional. Their menu is huge, with tons of specials that change constantly. Between our group of 9 people, we tried most of the menu. The highlights for me were the beef cheek pastrami, the steakhouse bacon, the Moroccan spiced lamb ribs, and the turkey. I didn't have room to try the brisket, chicken, sausage, and many other things, because I had been eating too long by the time the folks with those meats got to our table! The sides were also very good. I tried the cheesy squash, the green beans, and the queso mac and cheese with hot cheetos - all good. On Saturdays, they offer several specials: the steakhouse bacon, the bourbon peach cobbler taco, and 2 free beers per person - as if they didn't have enough treats on the menu for a great time. Expertly executed brisket, bold smoked turkey, juicy chicken with crispy skin, two kinds of sausage, ribs; you simply can't go wrong. The sides are what food dreams are made of. Sweet potato casserole, cheesy potatoes (think loaded potatoes au gratin), mac & cheese, flavorful beans, potato salad... your biggest problem is choosing what to eat! The people here are incredibly kind and helpful. From suggestions and sage guidance, to throwing a joke here and there to make you feel like you're just here for food at a friend's place. We were lucky enough to meet the pit master on our first visit. The humility on this lady was the stuff that most people aspire to.
