Double TX Burger Combo

Call me old fashioned, but I judge a burger joint by their standard burger. No frills, no gimmicks, no tricks. Just your standard burger, your #1. A burger has to stand on the strength of their beef, after all, and how are you going to taste that with gimmicks and special sauce? Well, I opted for the #2, which differs from the #1 in that it's a double. It is Texas Burger, and everything has to be bigger in Texas, right? The #2 is a double, 2/3 lb burger. I got the combo which came with seasoned fries and a fountain drink. You'll find no complain from me here. It's an excellent, fast food burger. The burger was size-able and juicy, and the flavor was delicious. You can compare it to the ilk of Whataburger or DQ, and that's not bad company to be in. The seasoned fries were delicious, not over cooked and seasoned just right. I am a little disappointed that this a fast food place, rather than a gourmet burger restaurant, but I'll blame the advertising on I-10 for that, and it didn't take away from the taste or experience for me.

Cheeseburger jr and fries

Good burger. Fresh and fast. Steak fingers were also good. Better than the fast food places at the same price. Give it a chance when passing through.

A must stop if you are traveling between Houston and Austin on Hwy 71. I'm usually a Bucees guy,…read morebut this place specializes in something that the beaver doesn't. Kolaches! Arguably one of the greatest foods ever invented. Atleast in my world. How can you go wrong with bread filled with sweet or savory fillings? Hruska's is about halfway between Houston and Austin and a perfect rest stop to fill up on gas, use the clean facilities, grab a snack or indulge in their amazing baked goods. They are steeped in history and have been around for decades passing along the family recipes. It's obviously improved structurally over the years from a country store and looks like a modern gas station now. It's always pretty busy every time I have stopped in, but they are a well oiled machine and keep the masses moving with excellent customer service. They have all your gas station essentials like snacks and beverages. What sets them apart is their bakery. Here, they label their kolaches as the traditional fruit filled variety. I like them, but they are never my first choice. I love the ones with meat inside. Here, they label these as pigs in a blanket. They have a large variety of both. I usually go for a regular sausage and cheese, but over here, they sell a delicious pan sausage kind. On top of all their sweet and savory baked goods, they also sell burgers on the grill. Their burgers have made it to the Texas Monthly Top 50 burger spots. I have yet to try it. Overall, this is an always stop place for me. I highly recommend stopping here to stretch your legs and enjoy a delicious pastry while you're at it. I will definitely be back.

So, when they were at my Annex today, I decided to give them a try. Although there are a ton of options to add, I went with my go-to... classic burger dry, with tomatoes and pickles. Guys, this burger was perfection. Juicy and savory and just right. And enough for me to cut in half and save the second for supper tonight (although I really wanted to eat the whole thing right then and there!) The meal also came with fries that had a Cajun blend spice. I am from Louisiana, so this is always a majordomo test. I'm not sure which blend they created, but it is spot on fabulous. And as an added bonus, the incredibly friendly lady (I'm sad I didn't ask her name) asked if I had ever tried their avocado ranch. I had not, so she handed me some of their homemade goodness and told me to dip my fries in that. AMAZING!! And corrected me from my misguided notion that all Ranch dressings are the same. I will definitely be going back and make sure you do as well!! You will not be disappointed.

I was disappointed in the Ruben sandwich. Mind you, it was served warm as most are, but after eating Reubens from delis with lots of meat, from the photos you can see that my Reuben from here had a skimpy serving of meat. Additionally, I thought that the menu had it at one price and the register rung it up as $1.00 higher. I found that it is a dollar more for a salad. It comes standard with chips. That's reasonable to me and I thought that the salad was good. My spouse had the burger, and she enjoyed it. She liked that it came with a choice of fries or a healthy salad. I was pleased that a Zero Coke was only $2.00. That's extremely reasonable!

I swapped the milk for oat milk, and I was impressed, it was delicious!! The bathrooms are very clean. The staff was friendly. They serve food as well, though we didn't stay to eat. I did notice others enjoying their meals and reading inside! A cute little coffee shop if you're looking to catch up with friends, do some work, etc.!
