For our Friday night dinner, due to the other Italian restaurant that I wanted to try had an hour wait and I was starving, my husband and I then decided on Tesoro, which was also on my list to try and only about a mile away from our local mall. It is located on a very busy street on Old Country Rd in an industrial area, where there is many stores around. One of my husband's biggest pet peeves is making valet parking mandatory if you decide to park in their lot so we decided to park on the street right in front of the restaurant, which was more convenient for us anyway. Upon arrival, we were seated right away since there were still plenty of available tables at 6:30 pm so reservations were not needed. Our waiter, David, gave excellent service; always being available to give opinions and keeping our water glasses full. We ordered the fried calamari and crab cakes with lobster sauce app, the soft shell crab as my entrée and my husband got the chicken Alfredo. All the food had an authentic Italian flavor while being cooked to absolute perfection. You can tell all the food were freshly prepared and every dish was a decent size without being family style. I especially enjoyed the apps and the chicken Alfredo, probably the best we've ever had. One negative comment is that prices were a little high but you should expect that because it is a local family restaurant. We will be back again. read more

Went to this restaurant on a Saturday evening and was seated right away. EXCELLENT staff, impeccable service, and seriously amazing food. I got the ribeye steak. It was huge but I finished ALL of it. A very traditional Italian American restaurant; nothing really unique or different in the menu, all your usual suspects (parmagiana dishes, pastas with red sauce, etc). It is fairly small and intimate, dark and old fashioned. I guess that adds to the ambience and authenticity of its neighborhood staple status. It is well liked for some good reasons: the service is very good, it's very warm atmosphere, the portions are generous and prepared well. But for me, I'd rather have small delectable dishes that are a little different, where unique flavor combinations or textures surprise & delight you; Something I haven't tried before. It's quite refreshing and the reason I'll chose to return to a restaurant over and over again. Tesoro really is a 4.5 star restaurant. The prices are high, but the quality, portions and service are worth it. The hot and cold seafood apps area a must. The lamb chops were very good and the rigatoni vodka was perfect. The ricotta cheesecake was meh, but I'll still order it again because I just love ricotta cheesecake, even ok ones. I'm subtracting half a star because my lambchops were more like mutton chops. In all fairness, the menu didn't say baby lamb chops, just lamb and there's a fine line between lamb and mutton. Also, the cheesecake could have been a little sweeter with a bit of lemon, but I'm really splitting hairs here. I highly recommend for a large family meal. read more

I went through the list of restaurants near the venue and luckily for us, we ended up reserving a table at Tesoro. We have one word "WOW". The staff is very friendly, courteous and very personable. Tesoro Ristorante (967 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY 11590) was an unbelievable experience. Outside the restaurant gives you the wrong impression until you enter. The decor and the menus are cheesy. It felt like the 80's but it's what you order makes a big difference. The calamari was just perfectly crispy and the side sauce was just like homemade. The Spaghetti with garlic & oil was delicately al dente with just enough marinated oil & garlic. The dish with Spaghetti and meat balls was 100% perfecto. The pastas are overpriced but when you try them, it's an exception. Perhaps once in a blue moon, it's nice to go back to Tesoro Ristorante and feel like you have travelled back to Italy. Came here with a group of 4 because it was recommended on Muslim Foodies for having halal options. We asked the staff which dishes were halal and so we ordered those dishes. When they arrived, we noticed that the Chicken Tesoro and Chicken Parmigiana looked different from the Muslim Foodies photos. Regardless, we gave it a try. A few bites in, we noticed that there was an unusually colored meat within the dishes. Upon further inspection, we realized that they made the dishes with prosciutto as well. We immediately notified the staff. Instead of admitting their mistake, they tried to cover it up by saying it was just beef. But clearly, it's was prosciutto. Eventually, after several back-and-forths, they admitted to their mistake. They didn't charge us for the meal and we went on our way. All in all, a very unpleasant experience with a very unprofessional and incompetent staff. If you are looking for Italian, you can literally find better tasting food and a better price ANYWHERE. Avoid this place if you are a fan of food, as you'll never want to eat again coming here. read more

My fiancé and I were starving after a long workout at the gym. Our usual go to Italian spot down the road had a full parking lot and we didn't feel like waiting for a spot to open up, so after looking on good ok' yelp we decided to try this place out. We've always had driven past this restaurant countless times but never gone in. The outside of the restaurant has those neon green and pink lightning that kinda reminds you of the 80s when the restaurant was established. There is a strip of parking just by the entrance of the restaurant, but if that fills up, you probably can find nearby street spots too. Walking into the restaurant it reminds me of your classic standard Italian place. Bar in front and dining area just past it. There was low lighting to give that old school feel. We were greeted by our waiter, Joseph, who took great care of us and was happy to explain anything on the menu and tell us the specials of the night. We decided on ordering the veal meatballs and buratta plate to start and pasta courses for the mains. The veal meatballs were good. They were not too firm and paired well with the sauce it was mixed in. The buratta plate came with a slice of their fresh buratta drizzled with olive oil and basalmic vinegar, sweet roasted peppers, prosciutto, fresh basil and a tomato. We received the one order of the buratta plate served individually which was nice on presentation. The buratta was so fresh and creamy. I would order it again. For the pasta courses. My fiancé had his usual go to of rigatoni a la vodka and I got the gnocchi in pesto sauce with pine nuts. You can tell that both pastas were made from fresh from its quality and texture. The potato gnocchi was soft and light. The pesto sauce was creamy and well coated the pasta. The pine nuts gave a nice contrasting texture to the soft pasta. Both pasta dishes were well enough to leave us leftovers to take home for the next day. Overall we had great food and excellent service. Pricing is pretty average on most items, but some are priced higher as well. We would consider returning in the future. read more

The place from outside doesn't look like much, and the inside same. The lighting was to dim for my taste, I like to see what I'm eating. So we have some drinks before dinner, we got some appetizers fried calamari and something else can't remember what. I thought the calamari was cook just right. I am not the type of guy who has a bad experience and rushes home to bash the place. The last (and I mean last) time I was at Tesoro it was, er, less than average. Now, to be fair, the night before we had dinner at Commander's Palace in New Orleans, one of the best restaurants in the Country, so we were a tad spoiled. But, even so, there is a minimum level of performance one expects when dining out, and Tesoro could not even muster that. It was an early Saturday evening and we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. There was a small group of us waiting and I get a bit more than a bump from one of the waiters. I said "excuse me, you just bumped inro me". His apologetic reply was "you should watch where you are going." I started to tell him that I was standing still and was hit in the back, but he was gone. If that was the only jostling I received by these "waiters", I would not have given it a second thought. Being banged into again by another "waiter' with a similar rude remark made it seem that it was acceptable, perhaps encouraged. For a moment, I thought I was in Dick's Last Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC, where the wait staff is sarcastic but the service and food, though casual, are great. Tesoro missed all three parts of the trifecta. Food was average at best. My first time at ANY Italian restaurant, I have Veal Parm. Why? Because if that is not good, the easiest thing to make, prolly nothing is. (Don't be flattered, there are a few local restaurants who can't serve a good veal dish and tasty sauce. Service was slow considering the fact it was not close to a full house. Again, it has been some time since this occurred. While I swore I will never return, this "experience" could have just slipped into the abyss of bad dining events. But as I pass this place at least once a day, I am constantly reminded about that night. So, for me, this is cathartic. I am sure many people love this place and others don't. I hope this was a one-off really bad night. I hope for other diners' sake it was, But, I will never know. read more

Came here for my Birthday for lunch. Outside is a little dilapidated, but the inside is very cozy. Service was great and very friendly. Food: Baked clams were delicious but it was a little weird they gave me 3 little necks and 2 top necks. I'm sure many don't understand the difference, but I have been eating good since I was out of the womb. I still ate them because they were tasty - but I prefer all little necks for now on. I had Sole Almondine which was very tasty. Lastly, I had the raspberry crumb cheesecake which is NEW YORK STYLE. Cheesecake was great. I had a single espresso with some sugar and sambuca. A classic, upscale, traditional Italian, fine-dining restaurant. As a monthly diner for more than 20 years, I have never had a bad meal. One of my personal top 3 favorite spots on Long Island. The staff, chef, owner, bartender all work to make everyone feel special. If I searched long and hard for any criticism, it would be the occasional repeats on the specials menu. Otherwise, order from the menu or your imagination, and your meal will come back exquisitely prepared, promptly and exactly as you ordered. Both the dining rooms and clientele are upscale and work great for both business and family get-togethers. We went to Tesoro and had an amazing experience. We ordered lamb chops done medium with walnut sauce (asked to be on the side), lamb chops that were well done, rib eye steak and linguine with shrimp in basilico sauce. My lamb chops were AMAZING and the walnut sauce was heavenly. The pasta dish was really creamy and flavorful. Others in our party enjoyed their food as well. For dessert, they had a special that day. The owners had gone apple picking out East earlier and the chef decided to make apple crisp using those apples. We had that with vanilla ice cream and it was out of this world. Tesoro is the typical Long Island, Italian restaurant. The atmosphere is classic. Elegant enough for a date or dinner party, yet it is comfortable enough to be a weekly dinner spot. All of the other patrons are friendly. It's like a family gathering. The service was great. Our waiter, Shareef, was incredibly knowledgeable regarding the menu. He was also patient with our group despite some lengthy questions and some order flip-flops. We started with the burrata special for appetizer. It was served with prosciutto, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, and balsamic vinaigrette. It was a simple dish with soft, creamy, and delicate texture; however, the flavors were wide reaching and well balanced. For the main course, I had the veal rollatini special which had sausage, spinach, and cheese inside of a rolled veal cutlet in a brown gravy sauce. It was a homey and savory dish. I would definitely recommend both of these specials if they're available when you dine in. read more

Some treasures should remain buried... Tesoro when translated means, literally, "treasure". Judging from the dingy atmosphere, it was dug up recently, especially the back room - it just had a dank and dingy look to it and I could swear I smelled urine... oh joy. The place has been here for a long time - some 20+ years overall. Interestingly the food is decent for the most part - so long as you skip the appetizers and stick with the mains. Shrimps wrapped in bacon were good, if a little overcooked; but let's be honest, a shoe wrapped in bacon would taste good. The calamari was rubbery, the baked clams tasted like the ones you get from the box. Eggplant rollatini was actually good. The minestrone soup looked and smelled good and the guy sitting next to me said it was very good. The main courses fared a bit better- the portions were large enough for two people but it was your standard Italian fare - nothing to jump up and down about - and frankly my mom does it better. Deserts were very good - I had a cannoli which was very good- the cream was very tasty and although a little too perfect to have been just stuffed in the kitchen, I'd hate to think it came from a box. Parking lot on the side is not big enough for the place and the spots seemed narrow- so I hit the street rather than chance the dents and dings. read more

It was filled with ricotta cheese and accompanied by prosciutto, roasted red pepper and balsamic glaze. I would've liked the portion to be a little bigger. We came in for the Specials but since they were day specific and I was on the wrong day, I had to choose something else on the menu or that particular day's Special. I am an afficianado for Crab Cakes or Scampi. Our waiter Al worked with me on getting something "off menu". I choose the twin lobster tails in a Scampi sauce over linguine. Old school Italian restaurant with an infamous past. Apparently there was a mob hit at this restaurant back in 1992. True story and now that I know this I will not be sitting by the front window next time I dine here. Food was better than expected since some reviews were mediocre. They had an interesting menu with a few items not typically seen at other Italian restaurants. I had the calamari with red sauce. A basic dish with very tender calamari and a good tomato sauce. They will make changes to menu items if requested. We were looking for a cold ante pasta that was not on the menu and they whipped up a couple of platters for us. Service by Joseph our jovial waiter was excellent. Prices can be high depending what your order. We had a table of 5 and we spent over $300 not including a tip but we did order about 7 glasses of wine, a cognac and dessert and coffee in addition to our main courses and the ante pasta. We also spent about 3 hours there and were not rushed. Valet parking was nice to have on a rainy night. Overall a nice comfortable place to hang out with a group and enjoy a good Italian meal. read more

This restaurant has been a wonderful place for my family to enjoy delicious Italian food for many years! I remember coming when I was a child. We had 100 people for the reception of my great grandmothers funeral years ago and recently had my twins baptism reception there in the private room for 40 people and it was a perfect! Two nights ago we went back for my grandmothers 80th birthday dinner and even brought my 9.5 month old twins and as usual, food was Devine and the service was over the top. Made a 7:15pm reservation for V-Day. First, we had to wait on a 20-minute line to get into the parking lot (you unfortunately cannot opt out of using their valet parking). The line was all the way onto the main road, people were cutting in front of each other... It was a mess. Second, when we finally got into the restaurant, it was absolute chaos there too. There were at least 35 people waiting. It was packed, with no where to go - and every time someone opened the front door, it was freezing. There was nobody at the front to check in customers/keep us informed on when we could get a table and to sort out people who had a reservation vs. those who did not. We could not even make our way to the bar to wait there. The staff looked completely overwhelmed. Somebody came by once and grabbed the first couple they saw and brought them into the dining room. None of the tables looked close to being finished, so even those of us with a reservation would have had to wait a ridiculous amount of time. We ended up leaving at 7:35pm. Cherry on top of the cake, the valet attendant who got our car when we left was cranky. Lovely customer service overall... I wish giving a zero-star review was an option. I understand that V-Day is a busy day for restaurants, but I had never experienced anything like this before... After this, Tesoro has lost me as a customer forever. read more

First time coming here tonight with my family. Our waiter was David and he was very attentive and friendly. For appetizers my father and I had the raw clams with an excellent cocktail sauce. My mother had the Tesoro salad and she said it was very good. For entrees I had the filet of sole oreganata, my father had the red snapper with fra diavolo and penne and he demolished his whole plate. My mother had the veal parmigiana which was very tasty as well. For dessert we had the strawberry zambaglione or however you spell it and it was so so so good! The strawberries were very fresh and it was delicious. My mother had the raspberry cheesecake which she finished every bite. I also had a cappuccino with Baileys and it was so tasty!! While we waiting to place our order a table opened up by the fire place and we asked Sharif our waiter if we could move. He said of coarse.
