So, It was hard to find a job in San Diego, and teaching english overseas seemed like a good idea. I had a degree from a good university, and the certificate would enable me to find a job overseas, right? The ad made the process seem so easy. Well guess what? After months of studying, and putting time and effort into this course, nothing. Teaching english overseas is saturated. The salaries were laughable. TESOL Training International had fabricated the salaries of different countries on their books. The indicated salaries were Much Higher than actual. This school took my money and will not give it back. They double charged me initially, as if I was stupid enough to Not see the double charge on my bank statement? OH, I didn't see that TESOL Training International, here is an extra 600 bucks! It is true that they 'connected' me with recruiters from overseas. But, anyone can do that. There was no Real connections they gave. The recruiters talked to me, on and off, I went through several loopholes. Getting passports authenticated, Degree authenticated, etc, etc. A national background check takes 2 months to clear! All this time and money to no avail. The "career services" section was one overworked girl in her 20's, handling thousands of files. They only had one worker in there to cut costs. Shame on you TESOL Training International! TESOL Training International has a "Job Guarantee" on their website. But guess what, the slithery owner will find multiple excuses not to honor it. OH, "we connected you with that recruiter and you spoke to them, we did our job. You cannot get your money back." Owner Bryan Whitman is shady. He cares only for his own personal gain. DO NOT TRUST A WORD HE SAYS. There are numerous complaint files on this "school" at the Better Business Bureau. Honest, Does what he said he'd do. I think that other review on here is from an angry ex-employee who used to work for Bryan. I took the TESOL certification course, and used it to get a job teaching English in Saudi Arabia. I found Bryan to be completely honest and trustworthy. Bryan even agreed to let me pay for the certification course in installments because I did not have the money at the time. Bryan's a good guy and his school is a good school. If you compare his certification to other English teacher certificates, like CELTA, Bryan's is much faster and it cost sabout half the price. You probably don't study quite as much with those other classes, but thats the trade off. The real benefit of studying with Bryan is that after you get certified he will use his contacts to find you a job teaching English overseas. And he is VERY good at that. He has been in this business a long time and he showed me exactly how to get a job. He helped me with my resume, my cover letter, my letters of recommendation, and he gave me a ton of good links to search job offers. Bryan helped me every step of the way. Bryan is perhaps a bit forgetful, but he is a solid guy. I was very lucky to meet him when I did. His courses were one of the best investments I ever made. read more

I took the online class through Bryan's school in San Diego, and had a good experience. The strength of the program is in the job connections afterwards. Once you complete the program your resume will be sent through their database of schools with Bryan's recommendation on it. If you have a college degree and are looking to go anywhere in Asia you will have more job opportunities than you know what to do with. (If you don't have a BA I bet you will still have quite a few). There is also a good amount of connections in the Middle East. South America is ok, and I didn't put any towards Europe so I don't know. The actual academics of the class was not difficult (a pro and con). I finished in probably 4-5 6 hour-ish days. I also was given the opportunity to observe teaching at the San Diego school, talk to current teachers and guest teach a class in addition to the evaluation they gave me. This school is also not extremely regimented which I liked but I can see how some type A personalities could be frustrated. I was a student of TESOL. I first did the on-ine classes as well as Bryans in class training. Upon completion I was immediately contacted by a recruiter, Li Ma. They found me several job offers of which I chose Hangzhou. I've been here for 2 years going on 3. I'm Black, no kids with a 4 year bachelor degree. There's a false rumor that China looks for White teachers...not true at all. They want qualified teachers of all ethnicity. The other expats here are all awesome and we have a great community of support. I make a good living, and am very popular here. I even got a side job teaching salsa and tango. I've been on Chinese television 3 times and learning Chinese slowly. I highly recommend China to other people of color as well as Whites. I highly recommend TESOL TII for your certification. This school is awesome! I received my TESOL certification and my money's worth from this school. It was the cheapest price I found for TESOL certification anywhere. I loved the teacher and owner of the school, Brian Whitman. He was terrific and always honest, easy going and a down to earth type of guy. I think the school was well worth the investment as I am now teaching full time and planning on leaving overseas soon to teach English. I enrolled in one course and paid the money for the class, then had to change the course to another which was better suited to my needs at the time. Brian refunded my money immediately and I payed for the second class which I needed instead. I never had any issues with my refund or class scheduling. I was told that if the class was not large enough that the class would be postponed until there were enough people in the class. I was called a week prior to class to let me know of the class dates, times and location, so there was no problems with me scheduling time off with my job in advance. I took the in-class/online version of the TESOL, and it was great. The job connections and real-world experience from the instructors make it unique. During the class, I never felt intimidated to ask a question or nervous when doing the end of class presentation. This class was great because it fits around a working schedule, and it is reasonably priced compared to other similar courses in the area. The instructors seem like the really want to help you, and they are flexible as well. if you wanted to come in for more practice or even just to observe, they will help you. When the class is over, they will help you find a job as well as give you resume and interview help. Their real-world experience and knowledge is helpful, as I was curious of conditions and wages in many different countries. I was looking on craigslist about posts for teaching English overseas and I found one about TESOL Training International. I check on yelp for review and it was not that good but I went to the seminar either way to see what this program could offer me. At the end of the seminar, I was really impressed of what I've heard and I've decided to take the program in class. Price and length are really reasonable. Let me tell you this I've learned a lot about teaching though and I was already thrilled by that yet after a few weeks he helped me out with a job placement in the country (Japan) where I wanted to go and now I'm here in Japan teaching English. Thus, I have no idea why on yelp this program has such as bad review but I can tell you that if you take it you want regret it at all. I would definitely suggest this program to whom is interested in teaching overseas but though does not have knowledge how to do it and needs help. read more

I took the one-week, in-person, 120-hour Introductory TESOL Training International course taught by Bryan Whitman in New York City in late 2009. I really enjoyed the course and learned a lot. I did some follow-up coursework online. All of that combined coursework was a very good price as far as TESOL certificates go. After I completed my coursework, I had a lot of help from the school sending my resume out to schools abroad and helping me assess contracts. I landed an amazing job teaching English at a private language school in Japan in mid-2010 (about six months after taking the course). I got this job because the school in Japan received my application materials from TESOL Training International. I loved my job and grew a lot in that year. Now back in the United States, I have found that it really helps to have that TESOL certificate on the resume when searching for ESL teaching positions. read more

My experience with Mr. Brian was very unique. I never had any idea about how to teach English to non speakers English. So, when I went to go and visit Mr. Brian I was nerves and really do not know what to do. Then Brian calm me down and he told me about the course and how to start . Suddenly all the fear was gone and the class went very smoothly and we start with the basic from reading to grammar to comprehensive to testing and most important to learn from my mistakes and have my own way or my own methods of teaching and be good at it and like it. I actually took and finished this course in 2005. After becoming certified, TESOL Training International (it was called Global TESOL College then, but still ran by Bryan Whitman) then found a job for me in my desired country, Brazil! Since then, I have also taught English in New York. While applying for a job in Japan last month, I contacted Bryan after 6 years, for a reprint of my certificate. He was very helpful and polite. Bryan Whitman is an honest businessman. I completed the course and was a bit skeptical at first, but I now live in China, and have been there for 4 years. I work 16 contact hours a week and have increased my salary by fifty percent by simply tutoring adults an extra 8 hours a week. The guys complaining here obviously were flakes and didn't even see the course through. I have been to ten countries and more than thirty cities in China.
