I can say my biggest con was the variety did get a little monotonous since we ate here several days with our package. I will say the vegan chocolate cake for dinner was hands down my favorite dessert. If you've ever seen the movie Matilda and watched the scene of the kid eating that decedent chocolate cake, you'll definitely be reminded of that cake. I was staying at the resort and ended ip eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner here. The restaurant had a good variety of healthy and tasty options at each meal and overall I think it deserves a good rating! For breakfast, I had the chocolate buckwheat porridge and a cappuccino. I wanted to try something new since I had never had buckwheat porridge before. I wouldn't recommend the porridge because it had a strong flavor from the buckwheat. I ended up asking for some extra coconut cream to put on it to enhance the flavor. My husband ordered the smoked salmon toast, which was excellent. I felt like the porridge and the cappuccino were both overpriced and could have been better. For lunch, I had the Buddha bowl, which was tasty, well balanced, and super healthy. For dinner, I had the salmon, which was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. I also appreciated the variety of non-alcoholic drink options. The service was excellent at each meal - the servers were knowledgeable and friendly. The ambiance was nice too. Honestly, the food was probably the part I disliked the most from the Civana resort for me. Terras was very underwhelming. It's mostly more on the healthy side which is understandable, but I think it should be more of a variety of different foods. I enjoyed the smashed avocado, salmon tacos, golden beet miso soup, and the grass fed filet mignon. I wasn't a fan of the charred octopus, roasted artichoke and the chicken tacos. The drinks were good I can at least say that! but If you're looking for something more fulfilling as far as food with more taste I would look outside the resort. I've read a lot of comments that the food here is very average, but I thought it was great! I stayed at Civana for four days, so I had a chance to eat here a few times. I honestly liked most of what I had, the only thing I wasn't crazy about was the Caesar salad. My top dishes were the beef tenderloin and cauliflower tacos. The lemon olive oil cake made for a perfect sweet treat. The service was also great - all the waiters were always so friendly and just seemed happy to be there. Dinner at Terras was the perfect ending to our spa day at Civana--elevated, thoughtful, and so satisfying. From the moment we were seated, we felt taken care of. Our server, Dallas, was genuinely kind, super helpful, and had spot-on recommendations that made our evening even more memorable. We started with the Spicy Hibiscus Margarita; honestly, it's a must. It's got that bold kick from the serrano balanced with just the right amount of sweet and citrusy freshness--plus, it's just a gorgeous drink to sip on during golden hour. We shared the Roasted Beet Hummus as our starter, with vibrant seasonal crudité and warm pita. Light, earthy, and beautifully plated--it was refreshing and just the right way to ease into dinner. For mains, we went with the Blackened Branzino, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor and the Vegan Mac and Cheese for a side, and it was surprisingly rich and creamy without feeling too heavy. Definitely a comforting dish but still felt clean and intentional like the rest of the menu. Then dessert rolled in, and wow. The Apple Tart with Vanilla Bean Gelato was divine. Warm, spiced apple filling with a buttery crumble and that cool scoop of gelato--pure happiness on a plate. I paired it with an Oatmilk Cappuccino, and the combo was perfection. As if the food and drinks weren't enough, the sunset views from the patio were absolutely stunning--those golden desert skies are something else. Had a breakfast and lunch here on our trip. They make their own yogurt and pretty sure orange juice and orange marmalade. T At breakfast they let me substitute the type of bread to sourdough as I don't do well with a hearty grain bread. We ordered a large breakfast and shared. Husband did say the yogurt was on the sweet side. For the lunch we ordered it from the pool at the spa. They charge 20% to walk it over from the restaurant so wanted to share. The burger was good and generous. The tacos were lighter so I shared some of my burger. Overall good quality and good taste for both meals. Still lacking...went for Valentine's Day Dinner with my husband and toddler, and if not for Chelsea's attentiveness, and playful spirit with my little guy, I probably would've given this 2 stars; which is really hard for me to do. We had a reservation, showed up and checked in with the hostess. I asked her to make sure my son is acknowledged this time, and explained my previous visit. She apologized and stated that it's probably because kids are not allowed on the premises! I'll admit, she was kind when she explained this, but was nothing short of a shock. I replied that this wouldn't be a problem...and continued to our seats. The food was beautifully plated, and we enjoyed the mixture of flavor and spice. The ambiance was calm, and sunset beautiful. What was lacking was the cleanliness of this establishment. The table was very sticky (I overheard the table behind us commenting this to the waiter), which felt gross, and the windows were splattered with food or something. Honestly, for as upscale as this place claims to be, they really should put a little more effort into physical presentation. Be warned: because Terras is a health-conscious restaurant at a wellness resort, flavor is often sacrificed in the name of nutrition. Sadly, I can't recommend much from this spot, especially considering the steep prices and limited dining options on property. Breakfast is the most promising of the three menus, but still underwhelming. The only things I truly enjoyed were the Pitaya Smoothie Bowl and the fresh orange juice. The Breakfast Sandwich was mediocre and came with bland, diced sweet potatoes that lacked seasoning. Lunch was the biggest letdown. The Desert Guacamole was essentially just mashed avocado--no seasoning, no punch. The Grilled Veggie Sandwich was ruined by an overpowering chunk of red onion that overwhelmed every bite. The only thing I'd order again? The Seasonal Berries. From the drink menu, the Pom Pomme and Radiance Smoothie were surprisingly good. However, avoid the Green Goddess Smoothie and Sonoran Sunset--both were bland, and not worth the money. Even the Berry Iced Tea during lunch was flavorless and forgettable. Dinner was the most disappointing. We tried the Hearth Roasted Artichoke, Grilled Caesar Salad, Carrot Pasta, Miso Glazed Salmon, and Grilled Za'atar Carrots. Unfortunately, I can't recommend any of them. The salad, for instance, tasted like watery lettuce with only the faintest trace of Caesar dressing. The Miso Glazed Salmon tasted good, but there were bones in the salmon and the lettuce accompanying it was extremely bitter. This is unacceptable given the price point. If you're staying at Civana and looking forward to flavorful dining, you may want to consider exploring off-property options. Terras simply didn't deliver the experience, taste, or service expected for the price. It felt like maybe 3 people were ever working there at once with service being extraordinarily slow even though the restaurant had at most 5 tables dining at any given time. read more

Very impressed by how fresh, seasonal, and delicious the food was at TERRAS! It was also wonderful to see how many different cuisine and dietary preferences the restaurant accommodates. We sat at the bar during one of their "happiness hours" and enjoyed two cocktails: Nourish: Butterfly pea infused gin, lemon juice, agave tea, basil infused green tea, coconut water and foaming bitters. I asked the bartender for a less sweet drink and she delivered! This was well balanced and not too sweet. Cucumber Martini: chakra vodka, pressed cucumber juice, fresh ginger and lemon agave. What a delicious and refreshing drink! Especially hit the spot after a lovely spa day. We enjoyed the following apps with our drinks: Roasted beet hummus with fresh crudites and super yummy and crispy za'atar lavash: I'm not usually a fan of hummus but this was delicious! Especially loved how flavorful and crispy and za'atar lavash was. Would order this again! Hiramasa crudo: a feast for the senses, the fish was well prepared and delicately seasoned with yuzu, salt, and chili peppers. Yum! Margarita wood-fired oven flatbread: great texture on the flatbread although we found ourselves wishing we had saved some hummus to dip it in. :) In summary, TERRAS has beautiful ambiance, friendly service, and seasonally inspired fresh fare for a variety of dietary needs. I'll be dreaming of Civana's Terras until I return. As an escape from reality, a weekend getaway to Carefree, AZ led my friend and I to the Civana Spa and Resort. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of Civana, and have absolutely no complaints. After our spa experience, we wondered to Terras, just as it was opening, and we were invited to sit at any table we desired. We chose a private table on their outdoor patio. Our server was lovely and guided us through our first Terras dining experience with ease. I ordered the Wild Confit Salmon (with fingerling potatoes & kale soubise) and Gem Lettuces (with sourdough & sunflower crunch & black garlic vinaigrette). My friend ordered the Sonoran Chickpea Pasta: very flavorful and satisfying. As for signature cocktails, we ordered the Mezcalita and the CBD Spritz, and would recommend both, and can't wait to try more of their cocktails! This was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable meals I've had in a long time, and keep recommending Terras to my family and friends. Civana is an oasis of peace, as is Terras! This restaurant is connected to the Civana Resort in Carefree. I visited this restaurant one time for dinner and 2 times for breakfast while I was staying at the resort. Reservations are available on Open Table, but it is very unnecessary unless you are coming with a large group of people. I walked passed the restaurant several times during my stay and there was never a wait. I'll break down my review by meal. Breakfast: Breakfast was my favorite meal at the restaurant. There is a good variety of breakfast options on the menu. If you want something sweet, they have that. If you want a hearty omelet, then you can have that too. I loved my Artichoke Eggs Benedict. Instead of an English muffin, the bottom was an actual slice of artichoke. I appreciated their heavy focus on fresh vegetables at this restaurant. The breakfast Burrito was full of flavor and filling. I would order either again without hesitation. Happy Hour: They have happy hour at the bar area from 4pm-7pm everyday. My friends and I started with hummus and glasses of wine. We were under the understanding that the wines we ordered were part of the happy hour menu, but we learned that this wasn't the case after we got our check. We thought these particular wines were part of happy hour menu because of how they were sectioned off on the menu. My friend explained this to the bartender, and she eventually agreed to adjust the bill. I appreciated this, but I hope they create a separate happy hour menu in the future. It would cause less confusion to have an actual separate happy hour menu that lists the brands included in the discounted pricing. Dinner: There are some decent sounding options on the dinner menu, but not many options appealed to me. I ultimately ended up having the French onion soup and roasted sweet potatoes. The French onion soup wasn't bad, but it didn't have cheese on it like advertised on the menu. The roasted sweet potatoes were really good. It is hard for me tho review this place. I appreciate the fact that there are multiple items for all type of food preferences like gluten free and vegan. This is spa cuisine so it is very artfully arranged on the place appealing to visuals. The mushroom lentil was really good. I looked up a recipe at the table as I am planning on trying to make this at home. My issue is that I am vegan and like to eats lots of vegetables with my meals. I know many vegan would appreciate the fact that the entrees while they have veggie the are a compliment not the whole meal. However, my sea bass entree was dry and rather bland with potatoes as a side and no sort of sauce, oil, or butter to loosen the dish up. The potatoes were better than the fish. This restaurant is located inside the Civana Resort and Spa. The facility is clean and has ample indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a bar area. The food was decent, and is mostly vegan, gluten free, etc. There was a decent selection of alcohol and cocktails. The portions were rather small and left a lot to be desired a few hours later. For two people, plan on spending about $150. The prices here were PREMIUM. I don't believe the food commanded the prices that they charged. If you sit inside, there is an OVERWHELMING smell of oils/candles/etc. It was so bad, the clothing I was wearing smelled like the interior of the restaurant several days later. It really detracted from the experience and made me feel sick. It was really unappetizing. Overall, I feel like we overpaid by probably 50% for this experience and we just couldn't bring ourselves back here despite staying at the resort. read more

So I know the drill, but even by the low standards of "nice restaurants" this place takes the cake for the worst in a loooong while. If you're a super rich girl, ignore my review, but for anyone who eats regular portions of food or above this is unacceptable. First off, they put mushrooms (YUCK) in absolutely everything when most people hate mushrooms. I don't know a single person who ever eats disgusting mushrooms, so what's the chef's obsession here?! Even a dessert item has mushrooms in it! Are you kidding me?! What is this restaurant thinking? But let's pretend that doesn't matter. They were out of the chicken, one of two potentially edible food items on the entire small menu. That left the other picture you see, a $58 "steak," using the word loosely. That isn't a steak, it's steak bites. It wouldn't even be appropriate for an appetizer if you weren't hungry. Thank god I wasn't that hungry but still I would have eaten twice this much! They didn't even mention the ounces on the menu, probably because writing "3 ounces" and "$58" would make anyone laugh. We mentioned on the reservation it was my wife's birthday; nobody cared or said anything. The best thing about this place was the drinks, which weren't even anything special but they were acceptable, I guess. I don't care if you call it a "newly fashioned," though, anyone who knows anything about alcohol knows that you serve old fashioned type of drinks with ONE large ice cube! Not a bunch of tiny ones like a Coke. There's a reason for that, physically speaking, because one cube melts much slower and doesn't dilute the drink. The sauce was so flavorful and the pasta was perfectly al dente, full of flavor, tasted like it was made in house! Service was fast as well (maybe a little too fast? Ha. My dinner came out five minutes after ordering... maybe even less than that!). What I don't love is the value. The food is good but for the portion sizes and simplicity, the crazy high prices are not justified. I ate here alone and if I had gotten a side (pasta did not come with a side... weirdly), a cocktail and a dessert with my entree it would have probably been 80-85 dollars before tip. I was also a little taken aback that I was asked by my server if I wanted bread and butter, I said yes (it was not on the menu so one would assume it was free and not a menu item... most restaurants serve bread with the meal) and was surprised to see I was charged six dollars for a single slice of bread cut in half. The food was expensive and mediocre at best. It was like they were trying to be "fancy" but didn't have the recipes. The French onion soup was nothing like French onion soup. It was just broth with onions. No cheese crust with hard bread. The Panzanella salad had barely-toasted bread. It wasn't Panzanella. The rolls were stale. Our dinners were average. My daughter liked her burger and fries. I had a filet, which was fine but not worth what I paid for it. I didn't realize sides were not included with the filet and our waiter didn't ask me if I wanted any. So I didn't have any sides with my meal. My son had black cod and said it was fine. The hostess was a little rude on check in and initially wouldn't seat us by the window even though the place was deserted. Totally weird. The wait staff was very friendly and nice, which is why I didn't give less stars. I actually really liked them. My only comment there is that they cleared plates too quickly and while we were still eating. We got through a $150+ meal in a very short time. Everyone needs more training if they are going to charge these prices. Also change the set up. read more

I eat here while staying at the resort, Civana. To be honest, I am shocked that the reviews are this good. I ate here twice and both times it wasn't good. While staying at the resort I ended up walking 1 mile each way for food because I could not stand to eat here. It was borderline awful. The first night I got here I ate at the bar. I had a fillet mignon and a salad. The fillet was served with asparagus with nothing on it, and mushrooms with nothing on them, it wasn't good. I had a salad and it literally had sand in it. I was hoping maybe it was just one bite but it was really the whole salad. It was $93 and it wasn't great. I decided to get breakfast a shot here and the service was absolutely horrible. I had a coffee and it never came. I asked my waiter for it when he brought my food. Then he brought me coffee with no cream and sugar so I had to ask for that I ordered toast with my breakfast and it came out and it was smaller than the size of my palm and only one piece and it cost three dollars. I had to ask for butter because they didn't give me butter with my bread either. The breakfast bowl had only one egg and was $17 but at least it tasted good. The service was overall bad. The food was overall bad. I felt like it was a weight-loss camp instead of a luxury resort. I know that they're going for a vegetable forward menu But if it's just awful. If you're on a weight-loss journey, you'll love this place because you'll never be tempted by yummy food. The dessert they had was of vegan chocolate mousse, and a sorbet trio, give me a break. A person wants to eat something yummy on holiday and this place does not have it. Pros are it is great for weight loss, cons very bad food. We came here for my mom's birthday, ordered just about everything on the menu, and loved everything we tried. We had a mix of vegans and a couple meat eaters, so there was something to satisfy everyone. Vegan favorites were the beet hummus, smashed avocado, heart of palm "crab" cakes, and the gem lettuces from the appetizers. Achiote cauliflower and maitake mushrooms from the mains. Meat eaters loved the crudo scallop lettuce wraps (my husband couldn't believe how flavorful these were) and the beef tenderloin. We were also in love with ALL of the sides. Grateful for a vegan option that is a little more upscale, with beautiful presentation and flavors. I always eat my food, even mediocre food. I just could not. The waiter replaced it with fruit (that was good). It was lunch time, perhaps 1 pm, and I stood for 15 mins waiting to be seated. No one to help there, no one. Place was not busy. After being seated by the passive aggressive staff, my waiter was over the top friendly, chirpy.
