Let me just say that I LOVE terra. It's my favorite place and usually I go in once a week to get one of their monthly special espresso drinks. However, for the past 92 days their espresso machine has been broken and the owners have refused to replace it. I've checked in every week and it remains broken so I often go elsewhere. It breaks my heart because it clearly is such a burden to the staff, who are wonderful, creative, and very kind. I hope they see this review and do the right thing to take care of their customers and staff. read more

It's not what I expected. That is not to say that the food wasn't good. We went for breakfast on a Tuesday. The menu was limited and the choices were pretty much standard fare. The service consisted of bringing the prepared food to your table after ordering at the counter. There were lots of tables inside and outside to sit. It was a bit like a cafeteria. Our party ordered the egg & cheese sandwich, tofu scramble, the starter which is eggs and bacon. All said, the food was good, the bacon was crisp. This substantial cafe offers indoor seating and an outdoor patio towards the river. It has a breakfast and lunch menu and a large spread of cupcakes and other sweets, which were very pretty but exceeded my needs on the day I dropped in. I was glad to be able to order a quinoa salad, which had multiple fruits and nuts and a pleasant contrast from the jalapeno dressing I got on the side. An iced tea was straightforward but refreshing. I will echo others in saying that the service didn't seem on point. Ordering at the counter wasn't overly speedy, but then they gave me a table number to display when I found my own table. Fair enough, but then people kept wandering around with dishes asking each table if the dish was for them. What were the table numbers for other than to answer this very question? Strange, and service efficiency matters more at a working lunch type of place. But I was happy to have found a worthwhile vegetarian dish in WV. read more

Cute cafe with decent food. Dislike having to serve yourself. Love that there is a playground right outside for kiddos. I got the Salmon Benedict, it was really good. It tasted fresh and the capers were a nice add, but the presentation was a bit sloppy. It's weirdly quiet in the dining space with no background music so you can easily hear everyone's conversations. There was a couple having an argument toward the back so that made things a bit awkward with no music to muffle it a bit. The atmosphere definitely needs a bit of work. Went for breakfast. Spent $45 on two breakfasts. My sausage was cold and very greasy. My roasted potatoes were lukewarm and WAY over seasoned. I couldn't eat them. My two sunny side up eggs were fine. My fruit was ehhh. The pineapple pieces were the core. My daughter's Eggs Benedict was lukewarm. Her potatoes were not as overly seasoned but barely not cold. Our coffee drinks were also disappointing. We waited a good bit to receive our food. We assumed it would be fresh! And hot! Popped into Terra Cafe which is situated right on the rail trail in Star City. Very chill spot where folks can get a hearty meal to dine in or to-go. There's also some benches on the trail close by if people want to eat and relax by the river. This place knows it's way the bakery and have some delectable cakes and pastries. I opted for a chewy moist Cinnabon and some quiche with sides. Safe to say I left satisfied. The staff was also super nice. Made great suggestions and even did some fun coffee art. read more

Very cute place! I got the Terra Turkey and had some of my friend's Ham & Cheese Panini and they were both absolutely delicious. Normally I'm a turkey sandwich girl through and through, but the Ham & Cheese was actually way better and I would highly recommend if you're in between. The turkey is a cold sandwich and the ham&cheese is hot so also keep that in mind. We also had the mimosa pitcher and it was terrific. The inside is quiet and has a great atmosphere. We've been driving cross country from Arizona to New York and when we drove through West Virginia I knew I had to stop and get a pepperoni roll - one of my best friends is from Morgantown and has always raves about them! I turned to Yelp to find a spot and Terra Cafe came up along with a few different places - the reason we chose Terra was because it seemed like a (liberal lol) place that would probably take the pandemic seriously and also offered tons of vegetarian options as one of our party doesn't eat meat. I ordered a pepperoni roll, the salmon omega club, a kombucha, and a cookie. The salmon omega club came with the tomato chèvre soup - the sandwich was great but I thought the soup was a little bland imo. I also got an extra side of Mac and cheese, which was tasty. I'd recommend the sandwich for sure but even more so the pepperoni roll, which ended up being bigger than I expected, so I only ate like a quarter of the sandwich and saved the Mac and cheese for later too. The chocolate chip cookie was super tasty, but I didn't like the kombucha - it was a ginger pineapple pepper kombucha and I normally like peppery flavors but it wasn't my fav in this combo. The biggest standout here was the fact they took the pandemic so seriously - everyone wore masks, there were spaces to social distance, and plexiglass at the counter. It made me feel very safe and like the business cares about its customers - very impressed. They also had a gorgeous selection of baked goods that would be worth going back for. The food had such great potential but was in fact cold when it got to us. Coffees were $5 plus for a small cup (hot) and genuinely just tasted like warm milk. I had the eggs Benedict and flavor wise it was very good, but the hollandaise was DROWNING everything on the plate making the English muffins, which honestly might have been hamburger buns in disguise, quite soggy. Their brunch menu is decent but honestly my hook to this place is the Lox bagel (pro tip ask for avocados, it's extra $$ but SO WORTH IT). Smoked salmon stacked on top of an Everything Bagel - immaculate. My 2nd hook: the desserts. The pastries are quite literally eye candy. Not only do they look beautiful, they are delicious as well. The cupcakes are colorful and elaborate with toppings - it can be it's own meal. Flavors rotate around but my favorite is the Blueberry Cheesecake cupcake. The drinks are decent - the Chai Nana is a favorite of mine. The coffee is fine too - nothing extravagant. Townies frequent this place and new comers quickly discover a Morgantown gem. read more

We went in for breakfast, but they only have all-you-can-ear buffet due to it's the morning of Father's Day. It's very pricey, $35 per person. For this price, I expected more. I think it's overpriced. Scone was way too salty. I enjoyed the mixed fruits the most. Server refilled my coffee. I asked for creamer. But then realized that no spoon to stir. Oh, well. I visited Terra Cafe while visiting my sister for Thanksgiving. I was looking for a cozy local shop to get some work done away from the distractions of dogs and family before enjoying the holiday. She recommended Terra, because typically it isn't overrun by students, it also has a large selection of beverages and treats and plenty of outlets. The cafe was crowded when I arrived, but there was still ample seating inside. They have a beautiful patio overlooking the river which would be a dream place to work if the temperature was about 30-40 degrees warmer. It isn't the coziest of shops since it's definitely more cafe. They do have one couch if you are like me and prefer to feel like you are in a public living room instead of a cafe. They do have several outlets around, but I was glad I came charged. I must have come during a peak rush, there were kids everywhere with their mothers scolding them for not wearing their gloves. 30 minutes later it was just myself and a handful of others working and talking quietly. You enter the front door and order at the counter to your left. They will give you a number that you take to your table. I had hoped that by ordering my drink "for here" I would get a real cup after noticing other people with mugs, but I suspect that they don't have cups big enough since I did order a large. I was very happy to see that they use biodegradable cups. Small eco-friendly touches always win my heart. The mocha I ordered was good and was a great way to warm up. Since I camped out for awhile just working away I also enjoyed a smoothie when I started to get a little hungry, but not quite hungry enough for a meal. I had their seasonal special Pumpkinator smoothie and it was AMAZING! It had pumpkin puree, Nutella, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. Talk about fall in a cup! Finally, I grabbed a few treats for my family to enjoy after thanksgiving including the gluten free carrot cake & brownie. I also grabbed a pumpkin cheesecake cupcake and a pumpkin cannoli. Can you tell I'm still on the pumpkin train? So basic- I know. Overall I really enjoyed my experience here. The biggest distraction was I found it to be a little cold and frequently had my hands in my hoodie pocket to warm them up. I stopped in here a week or so ago with some friends to grab some food and beers but this wasn't even close to being my first time in this place when I remembered I hadn't left a review for them yet just like many other places I will get to eventually. Lol. This is one of those places that just makes you happy. The vibe is great in all aspects! I love the inside and outside sitting areas and the people who work here are always upbeat and helpful. This time in particular I was craving a couple things on their menu but to my surprise they were out of them and that wasn't a bad thing though especially since the wonderful young lady taking my order recommended the Thai peanut wrap with tofu since I am vegan. Wow!!! Thank you again for that because it was superb. I also got hummus à la carte which is always a go to for me. Listen, there are a lot of great places to eat healthy, vegan and vegetarian food in Morgantown but this is probably my favorite. If you are ever in Motown for work, fun or a game. Since moving to town just over a year ago I have been on the hunt for a place with good, moist (yeah I said it) cupcakes with non ABC buttercream and hit the jackpot here. Lovely, creamy, not ungodly sweet frosting. If I had to guess I'd say stabilized Whipped cream and either Swiss or Italian meringue buttercream and it is sooooo yummy. It's right on the river and after eating all you can keep down, it's nice to walk along side the river towards the picnic tables and just relax. I recommend the salmon vegan or the eggs Benedict. Love coming here! They have limited seating due to covid but every table is spaced out well over 6 feet which makes everyone feel comfortable. My boyfriend is OBSESSED with the cream cheese bagel with lox, capers, and red onion. The bagel is so fresh and soft and the pickled red onions really put this dish over the edge. I usually like to try the daily Benedict special and this time it was a black bean burger! Super filling and dense and the fresh cilantro and salsa were a nice touch.
