Your margaritas have bottom shelf liquors in them. Juarez is not 100% agave tequila. Your other 15 dollar cocktail tequila drinks also have low end tequila in them. You can't call your restaurant tequila and then serve horrible tequila in your drinks! That taste bad and give me a hangover. Please rename your restaurant to "cheap Tequila" or "Chafa Tequila" read more

Location, location, location!!! This is why this place is 4 stars. Free parking on the pier and what a view!! This is such a nice addition to the downtown waterfront area, especially during the free concerts. It is a huge restaurant with both upstairs and downstairs seating. The interior is decorated really well with a lot of fun picture opportunities. Outside has comfy tables and a remarkable view. We sat outside today and were greeted by our server and some chips and salsa. They were the average prisoners chips and salsa. Nothing great. The menu isn't very big. I did choose the blackened tuna meal with rice. My friend had the brisket tacos and we had an order of guacamole. Our server was new so she really couldnt answer a lot of questions. The guac was good, just average. There was definitely a huge portion. My tuna was average and the meal my friend had was average. Indefinitely was not impressed with the food at all. My in-laws and I took a trip to Wilmington this past weekend to end the summer on a good note. We had been looking forward to eating here for months. I called to see how long the wait was, and the hostess who answered the phone rudely said "pretty long." I asked, "okay... well, how long?" and she said "an hour or more." which is fine - it was a Saturday night. When I asked if we could put our name on a waitlist or anything, she said "no, we don't do that. You just have to come and see how long you'll have to wait," with a not-so-pleasant attitude. This was a disappointing experience and ended up making us not even want to visit the restaurant. We went down the street to Anne Bonnie's and it was delicious, and the service was outstanding! read more

Maybe we are spoiled because our hometown has authentic Mexican food with the most delicious flavors. We did not enjoy the food here, it lacked flavor. We had nachos with brisket and the meat was tasteless- and the lettuce was actual leafs which is a weird choice for nacho topping. We also had mahi mahi tacos, it was just sweet but not in a good way. Just an overall waste of money. I will say for the positive the staff was nice and the place was clean. read more

Brought a friend. Food is not that impressive. Beans and rice were cold and unappealing (appearance, texture, flavor). My friend's shrimp tacos were a tad raw tasting. My chile relleno might have been fried but came out with some kind of sauce soaking the poblano so it looked like a pink maggot. The waitress was terrific as were the house margaritas. Unfortunately our excitement over this new restaurant went south very quickly. We arrived about 1/2 hour early for our reservation. The upstairs lounge was nice and they did seat us right at our reservation time. This is when it went south. No chips/salsa were brought - we had to ask for them. Once our dinner arrived the amount of food was minuscule. The food was not seasoned and was basically flavorless. It was definitely pricey for what we were given. I considered rating the place a 2-star, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since they just opened. Considering they are experienced restauranteurs that's being generous, I think. The restaurant has a very nice vibe, so 4-5 stars there. Our waitress (I'll leave her name out of this), was also 5 stars. I noticed that she was even greeting people at other tables who hadn't been served, assuring them that someone would be with them shortly. That's management mindset. See below as to whom she didn't learn it from. The food? Guac was very good but it was all downhill from there. We had tacos. Chicken tacos were dry and lifeless. I had the tuna. The tuna was cut into these suspiciously even-looking logs (frozen?). They too were overcooked. And there was virtually nothing else in the shell. The cabbage and red onion were so scant that they were hiding under 1 piece of tuna. Sorry, I don't get it. There are many other places in town who deliver better, for less. And finally, back to the manager. The two TV's over the bar were showing women's golf and some ridiculous show about pets. We asked our waitress if the manager wouldn't mind switching one of the TV's to a college basketball game. She came back to our table 3 times to apooogize, saying that she kept bugging the manager to change the station. He did not. The place was half empty so really, he was that busy? I won't be back, but I suggest to the owners that they replace the manager with our waitress. She gets it. read more

Went on "Taco Tuesday" for an early dinner... too hot to sit outside, so we sat next to the window overlooking the river. Sadly, there are a whole row of porta-potties blocking the view. Hopefully this is a function of the construction in the area and temporary! (??)... it really does detract from what would otherwise be a nice view. The interior of the restaurant has bright colors and interesting Mexican art & sculptures. Service was just ok, server was friendly but not super attentive. We had to wave her over owe needed something. It was 3:30, so the dinner crew hadn't clocked in yet and there were a couple other tables she was handling. We ordered house margaritas... regular size was $11 each and a nice sized cocktail - a decent price relative to other downtown restaurants, but they had larger sizes also. The drinks were really excellent! They brought chips and salsa (in individual bowls-which I appreciate) and we ordered queso as well. The queso was very good, but a little pricey at $7.99. We ordered the special $2 tacos (seafood tacos not included). I particularly enjoyed the pollo (chicken), but the brisket and carne asada were also quite tasty. Chicken would be #1, brisket a close second, then asada... which was good, but could've used a bit more spice. For dessert, we shared churros served with vanilla ice cream. The server who brought it out (not our server) sat it down, and asked if we needed spoons... we said "yes" and she walked away - but never came back with the spoons? Several minutes later, we had to wave down our original server and ask for spoons so we could eat our dessert. The churros were delicious though! Highly recommend... crispy and chewy and not at all greasy. All in all, we enjoyed our meal... it's a fairly new establishment and they have a few things to work out, but I'd come here again -especially for Taco Tuesday deal. One person in our party ordered a strawberry frozen margarita, and the waitress said they were not available, because they were out of gin !!!!! Very slow service. Our food came out cold. We've been waiting for 45 minutes for our meal. We usually go to the other Tequila location so we had high expectations. Our beans were very salty. Customers around us also have been waiting for over an hour for their meal. I recommend the other Tequila location going towards Carolina Beach a million times over. read more

The Mrs and I came to this very big and nicely decorated Mexican restaurant. It's along the marina waterfront, at the edge of the city area. It's in a very nice area and it's adjacent to the Marina grill. We were seated upstairs and outside along the water. There was a neighborhood band playing next door, so it had a fun atmosphere. They have bars, both upstairs and downstairs, and after we were served drinks, we quickly went for their Mahi tacos. They were tasty but the mahi meat were small chunks and dry. The Mrs.got the shrimp fajitas which she liked and I got the salmon mex cal. I really liked the tangy, sweet, and bbq flavored sauce it was in, along with the sides you get. The fish was a little dry but not bad. The black beans are really good. For dessert we had the tres leches, and it was absolutely delish! We devoured the big slice they give you! Ceviche was chopped so finely it was impossible to tell what was even in it. Tasted not quite as fresh as you want ceviche to taste. Not bad, mind you, but I wouldn't order it again. Welp, I didn't wanna do it because I really think this venue has potential to be a great restaurant, especially considering the vibe and the view, BUT... until this place solves its management issues, things will never change. First of all, we were there pre-dinner rush, like 4 o'clock in the afternoon. We ordered our drinks as soon as we sat down but needless to say it was probably 35 minutes before we received our cocktails. Let me preface this by saying we went the weekend before which was essentially the first weekend they were opened, and the margaritas were not palatable. This is the reason why we came back because we like to give restaurants second chances, especially when they are new. So, once again, we tried the margarita which was disappointing once again, just wasn't good. It almost tastes like seawater as if all of the salt from the rim has somehow made its way into the glass. There's also an underlying flavor of bad citrus like maybe a bad lime or something? It's really hard to pinpoint. We then ordered the Paloma, which was almost as bad. There was so much salt on the rim you had to wipe it off. I didn't realize the tajin was an option until another Paloma came with the tajin. That was much better, the problem was the drinks them selves looked like 2 completely different drinks. In the restaurant business consistency is one of the most important attributes and at this restaurant you never know what you're gonna get (except a bad margarita). Which brings me to my reason for the two stars. I tried to discuss this with the manager (the issues with the beverages) and his response was nothing less than defensive. I tried to explain to him that we really want to see the restaurant thrive hence the feedback, but his only response was in defense of how that's how their margaritas taste. Well, good luck buddy because people come to Mexican restaurants sometimes just for the margaritas and when I have heard that your margaritas continually get sent back you might want to, find a new recipe. Needless to say, the food is subpar, and definitely not worth the money. The servers are sweet, and our server was gracious and apologetic when she didn't need to be. I have no complaints about the service. While there seemed to be a plethora of managers in the building, it's obvious that their LAST priority is pleasing the customers that will fund and fuel their business. (Well, maybe next to last. I would say their last priority might be keeping their. restrooms clean) My hope is that someone from corporate will read this and deal with the poor management. The food could use some tweaking, which could very easily come with time and experience from their kitchen. But when a manager is not willing to take feedback and turn it into something constructive , I just can't find a reason why I would return. It would be different if I was the only person saying this about the drinks. read more
