Before checking out Ipanema Beach for the first time, my buddy and I checked out Frontera for…read morelunch. This Brazilian restaurant was recommended in my guidebook for its buffet so we decided to give things a try. Upon walking in, I was impressed with the aesthetics of this restaurant. It's a large restaurant with nice, wooden booths and the decor is similarly impressive. The World Cup was going on while we were there and they had the game playing on a projector. Now let's get to the good stuff. This is a large buffet with a ton of options. We're talking all different types of meats, sides, appetizers, desserts . . . I would guess that there were at least 100 items to choose from. For someone who loves variety, I was in heaven. With the variety, the quality was there too. One of my favorites was the churrascaria-style meats that are carved in front of you at the buffet. To wash it all down, I ordered two fresh juices. This is truly a feast and one of my favorite dining experiences I had in Brazil.

Buffets are super popular in Brazil. We came to this one in Ipanema for lunch. Given Rio's…read moreperpetual sunniness this is probably not a place I'd choose again for a daytime meal given how dark the interior was. Food-wise there was a lot of selection ranging from rice and beans to many types of meat, salads and sushi. You can pay by weight or choose the all you can eat option for a flat rate.

Lapamaki, so far we have only eaten there once however we plan on going back tonight. I have had a…read morelot of sushi in my time and I must say this ranks up with some of the best. This place was a recommendation from the people we are staying with and also gets really good reviews online. We had some sort of combo that came with not only a few rolls but also sashimi as well as nigiri. The fish was so fresh the salmon sashimi melted in your mouth, really very good stuff. Just as in any restaurant in rio if you try to speak some Portuguese they will understand you and help you out. I even saw another couple of very loud rude American tourists order (completely in English with no attempt at Portuguese) not like what they ordered because they misread the menu send back an entire bowl of salmon, the staff took care of it with no hesitation. Great staff, great sushi, reasonable price don't miss this place if your in the Copacabana!!!!!!!!!

We ordered takeout version of their executive lunch which was very reasonably priced at $15 for meals for 2 people (app, entree, dessert). The quality of the fish was not as high as higher end sushi restaurants in Brazil, but I really enjoyed their creative fusion offerings, such as a spring roll with shrimp and cheese (delicious), a dolce de leche dessert spring roll (tastes like a churro), and a mushroom cheese fried sushi roll (and this is coming from a girl who does not generally eat cheese or fried foods). The poke bowl was fresh and healthy.
