We, by chance we're walking down Avenida Atlantica in Rio, when we decided to grab some lunch. We chose La Maison. The place was semi empty on a Wednesday. The place is well appointed, spacious and comfortable. We could have picked outdoor seating but opted for indoor both areas have nice view of beach and street traffic. Service was excellent. We do not speak Portuguese but the communication was easy. Nice staff. Food was simple lunch fair as that was what we were looking for. It was good. We sat in the restaurant for an hour and thirty minutes. It was a good experience. read more

Right outside of my hotel. (Windsor California Copacabana) Wanted to try an authentic Brazilian dish called: "Feijoada" A hearty black bean stew with meat and rice on the side. La Maison did not disappoint! The food was delicious and the service was top notch. Definitely worth the try! read more

Ate here our first night in Rio as it was right near our hotel. Turned out to be a great choice. Food was great as was the service. My wife & I had the Brazilian lentil stew, which was, apparently, a local dish. Very good! Only problem was that the portions were very large & we could not finish it all. Delicious! We had the octopus which was clearly the best dish. Also had the feijoada and the picahna. All were good. I didn't like the meat in the feijoada. Everything else was good. The maracuyá caipirinha was amazing. Service was good and quick though it did take a little long for the dishes to come out, but I think this is normal for the area. We sat outside in a covered area. There is an indoor area but no one sat inside. It is facing the ocean so being outside is the way to go. read more

Great selection of food. Right across the street from Copacabana Beach, which is the closest to the beach you can get for restaurant dining. Free wifi, which was a plus. I wanted a half bottle of red wine, as they had several on the list, but none were available. I ended up getting a Corona instead. We shared a mixed salad, which was big enough to share between 2 people. You make your own dressing for this salad, with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrettes. I had the Fettucine de Casa, which comes with a steak on top. My son had the Lasagna Bolognesa, which he loved. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel, which was about 6 blocks away. E chose La Maison for dinner tonight based on its location, quieter side of beach, and Yelp reviews. You can dine inside or outside, but we chose inside due to some traffic noise outside. The menu choices are wide ranging, with starters, salads, pastas, and a large protein selection (fish, chicken, pork and beef). My husband chose a strip tenderloin appetizer and a mixed salad, which was fresh, tasty, and HUGE! This can definitely be shared. I chose the seafood spaghetti, and it was also HiUGE. I had been yearning for seafood pasta, so tonight was the night. It was delicious and provided many calamari, octopus, shrimp, fish and mussels. The broth was just right, flavorful but not overpowering to the seafood. We also received a delicious garlic bread basket which was perfect for soaking Up the seafood broth and the tenderloin gravy. The atmosphere is quiet, classy and romantic, but it is not stuffy. The staff is very professional and helpful. I definitely recommend La Maison and only wish we would have arrived earlier to appreciate sunset at the beach. read more

Great place, large portions, and great flavor! We stumbled upon this place by accident, but it was delicious! The food was seasoned amazingly and came in very large portions. I got the shrimp/fish risotto and would highly recommend it. The atmosphere itself was very nice and quiet. The place was nicely decorated. The service was impeccable! The manager was incredibly nice and helped us out as we were English speakers. Would recommend this place. I made a recent trip to Brazil and was walking along Copacabana beach and my friends and I got hungry. We wanted to find the closest 4 star rated seafood restaurant in the area and this place popped up. My friends and I were pleasantly surprised with the large menu choices, delicious seafood and reasonable prices. We actually ate here twice while in Brazil. We can get great seafood in Los Angeles but there's nothing like trying the local fare as well when you're traveling. Not to mention the caipirinhas are strong and made with fresh fruit. I highly recommend drinking one of those as you sit out on their patio and look out into Copacabana beach. read more

Exhausted and hungry after our plane ride over, we decided to grab some food close to our hotel, and stumbled upon a very crowded La Maison. Now the restaurant is right in front of Copacabana, so the view is beautiful. Alas, as it was too hot for us outside, we elected to sit inside under the AC to eat. Now the interior was much less spectacular, with some tacky lights hanging about, but nothing too terrible. When ordering, we came into some language barrier problems. While most of the menu had English translations, the first 10 or so items, including the chef recommendations did not. Additionally, since our waiter did not speak English (which is completely understandable since the national language is Portuguese), we could only order from what we could read. I and two others ordered the Southern Brazilian Churascos for 45 reales each and my brother ordered the fillet mignon, which was 65 reales. For my personal plate, the beef and sausage were well cooked through, and the deep fried flour added a lot of salty flavor to them (perhaps too much). However, I found the beef very tough to eat. Additionally, the other two people who ordered the same dish had their steaks very rare in comparison, which I thought was strange since we ordered the same thing and didn't have the language capabilities to requests rare steaks (nor did they want some). Finally, my brother ended up receiving chicken fried steak instead of his fillet minion and began eating since it took a long time to get food out and we probably couldn't point out the problem, when suddenly halfway through our meal, the waiter seemed to notice and appeared to ask him if he wanted to change. At that point, there was no point, so we said no, yet we were still charged for the fillet mignon. Needless to say, our first meal in Brazil was disappointing, mostly due to language barrier issues, but also due to service problems with the restaurant itself. I will admit the food had extremely large portions for what we paid for, but the quality wasn't very high. I probably won't be coming back, despite the beautiful view of Copacabana. The service is a 5 stars. They speak good English and they are really ready to help. Bravo. The food is 3 to 4 stars. I love the chicken cesar salad, croutons were crisp, the chicken tender, and the salad was fresh. The sea food plater was ok, the ingredients were of but it was almost like it was fried, which I didn't like too much. The price is expensive for Brazil but expected as it is 10 meters from the JW Marriott, so no harm for that. The location is a plus if you plan on waking up and down copacabana beach! read more

Had dinner here last night before wife and i went to the sambódromo. We stayed at the Marriott so this restaurant was just steps from our hotel. It is categorized as a "Brazilian, Seafood" restaurant. Looking at the menu, I didn't see much seafood choices that I would have liked to order. I ended up ordering one of their specialty, the filet mignon. I have been in Brazil 3 days and It was the worst meal I had in the past 3 days. I doubt that the meat was filet mignon. It was a very tough meat and covered with a sauce that was tasteless as well. My wife, though, ordered their mahi mahi. Her fish order was tastier than mine. Her fish order was good but nothing special. The other good thing here was that the waiter was friendly and attentive to our needs. Good location. Good service. Food not good. read more

The service was great, however the food was ok. This was my last meal leaving Brazil. I expected a bit more since the food shacks across the streets were amazing. The place has a great view of the famous Copacabana Beach and a great view to people watch. I had the Portages pizza, draft beer and beef Croquets. The Croquets were good and the portion (12) size, was a good value. The beers were small and I didn't find the value worth it. It looked like to be around 8oz. The pizza was average and lacked flavor. They put a bunch of stuff that didn't go well together. I should've chosen the shrimp and some other type of seafood. I will go back for the view and service. I'm looking forward to a better meal. I wish I could give them 5 stars. read more

English menu is available and the waiter also shows you pictures of signature dishes on his cell phone and explains to you in English, very patient and hospitable. We were in Rio for New Year's Eve and wanted a place to hang out and see the spectacle on Copacabana Beach. For that purpose, you certainly can't beat La Maison's location, though you'll pay for it - we spent about $150 per person, which included all the food you can eat for ~5 hours, plus an open bar, plus a bottle of champagne at midnight (which we brought onto the beach with us and enjoyed while watching the fireworks). That said, the food was nothing special - mostly fried and mostly dry. Bottom line: great location, so-so food, and quite expensive for the quality. read more

This was the first meal we had in Rio, and it did not disappoint. We'd just flown in and we were waiting for our host to turn the rental. I was dying of thirst. The Mr. ordered a vodka caipirinha, while I knocked back two glasses of water. The waiter thought my thirst was quite hilarious. Once I got that under control I moved on to a kiwi caipirinha. Oh Em Geez, I thought they were trying to kill me. That drink put me in a Rio state of mind immediately. I think it was because all other thoughts became blurry and I could only focus on the beach and my food. I had the bacalao with potatoes olives and small hard boiled eggs. The flavor was just...it left me speechless and shoveling food in my mouth. We stayed and enjoyed the view and people watching and street performers. Great location and great service. read more
