I recently visited Marius Degustare in Rio and had a pleasant experience overall. The servers were very nice and attentive -- they truly make you feel welcome and well taken care of throughout the meal. The service was definitely the highlight of the visit. That said, while the food and atmosphere were enjoyable, in my opinion you can find better deals elsewhere in Rio for a similar dining experience. It's a good spot if you're looking for friendly service and a comfortable setting, but if value for money is your priority, it might be worth exploring other options as well. read more

Came here while vacationing in Brazil. Through my research, this restaurant came up as the place to eat in Rio. And I see why!!! Came here with reservations and was immediately taken back by the bright colors and decor. We were immediately greeted and seated by hostess. Once walking in, you are IMMEDIATELY mesmerized by the elaborate and yes, over the top decorations in this restaurant. I mean a full car just on the side of a wall, ships every where, many Louis Vuitton bags hanging from the ceiling. IT was the MOST unique restaurants Ive ever been in and I was in an underwater restaurant in Dubai. The ladies bathroom is covered with coffee beans on the floor with a very big and unique Lips on the wall Service - 100 out 10!!! I hardly ever touched my plate. As I ventured out to the buffet, the second I was heading to my table, a server took my plate and walked it to my table for me, all while pulling out my seat. I noticed that each table had a different flag on it and realized that the server took note of where each patron was from and placed a flag on their table so servers can know what language they speak. What an eclectic ambiance with modern American pop hits with tourist prices, located on a central street bordering Copacabana beach, closer to one of the mountains (so pretty!) Great and attentive service with constant plate clearing and switching, even grabbing shells directly from your plate which I've never experienced before. $66 pp for todays AYCE Brazilian BBQ/Seafood style. Seafood/salad bar that's included is pretty tasty and it varies from traditional brazilian dishes/stews, to various salads (avocado was my fave), ceviche, kampachi, sauces, and even sushi and oysters. Of the BBQ options, the wild boar ribs surprisingly blew me away with just the right amount of seasoning and tenderness. Overall, I think the tenderness and juiciness of EVERYTHING even the pork shoulder and octopus (made my dad wonder if it was even cooked completely which it was) was on point. If anything I liked the prime rib or the cheese oyster (way too much cheese) the least. Lobster was on the saltier side, though you can taste a tinge of saltiness on most meats tho that didnt bother me. Prices are definitely on the higher end relative to elsewhere in Rio, but still an enjoyable and unique experience (even the bathroom was an experience LOL). Would I come back? We didn't plan a reservation and went to dinner early one night in Rio to test our luck...and we got a table pretty quickly! One of the craziest buffet spreads you will ever see in your life, the options include anything from traditional Brazilian dishes to oysters and sushi. There is no set menu, and the servers come around to your table with different cuts of steak and seafood. The ambiance was fantastic and the restaurant itself is soooo beautiful. Salt! An overabundance of salt on the food, and forgettable service earns this over hyped restaurant it's glorious 1 star. The location is excellent, it runs parallel with Copacabana just steps away from the beach. However once you enter the establishment, it's very confused and busy. A lot of greenery and colors with these antique looking moldings, but upstairs is this modern stone finish like a NYC Brownstone. I've been to Rio and I know what a color beautiful place it is and can be, but the interior needs some direction. The premise here is Brazilian steakhouse with buffet style (Golden Corral) sides for you to self sever, while slabs of seafood and meat come to you around the clock. The continuous serving of protein selections from steak, to lobster, and even clams comes across mundane to the servers and you can feel it in their delivery and energy. They rather be somewhere else or rather the food was just on a bar (Golden Corral style). The few items you can retrieve for yourself, are sides like rice and beans, oxtails and a traditional Brazilian dish. So far we have a terribly laid out dining room, lethargic servers and incredibly salty food. The levels of salt in the meat which is supposed to be the standout, for 70.00 USD per person....all taste the same. The salt is so dominant that I couldn't distinguish a fliet mignon from lobster tail outside of texture. Pro tip: Save your money, no really if you are a visitor to Rio your money goes a lonnnng way, and 70.00 USD can be spent in much better places. Personal recommendation: Nusa Cafe they have a balanced menu, and their food has layers to it's flavor. read more

Honestly, although the food is tasty, is it not worth $120 bill. This place is a tourist trap. Is the service good? Yes The ambiance is...different. There are endless themes and designs rolled into one, which is overwhelming. Then, I heard it was a famous place, in the book 1000 places to eat before you die, so I figured I'm not getting younger and better check it out, haha It's an all you can eat seafood buffet at a fair price in a well decorated dining room. Very appropriate for date night, trendy friends, etc. They have servers that come around with various cuts of meat, churrascaria style. And good wine by the glass that was extra. I couldn't figure out how to get a flag for my table - make sure you ask. I didn't have a reservation but I stopped in at 4 and got a table for two with my namorada for 7. We really enjoyed it. This place is so unique and worth the money. The staff doesn't even allow you to look like you need something. They are on it. The place is set up like a Buffett but they still bring around unlimited meat, seafood and steak. It's about 300 Reais per person but you won't regret it. The food is delicious and the decor is unbelievable. I don't eat meat so I stuck to the broccoli rice, polentas, grilled bananas, corn, black beans. All great. We're in Brazil.. should we try FDC to see if there's a difference? I spent about 10 minutes comparing photos, reviews and menu and decided to opt for this place. For one, it's within walking distance from our hotel (Hilton Copacabana ). Secondly, the dessert bar is included at Marius. We came on a Wednesday night just before 8pm, no reservations. Within an hour the place got busier (yep, it's typical to have vey late dinner in Brazil, apparently). I love the fact that most of the waiters spoke/understood English bedside our Portuguese speaking skills are non existent, except for "obrigada" They had a variety of selections in the salad bar and hot food items in the buffet. Shrimp with puréed cassava cooked in coconut was glorious! I refused the fish and chicken but I did get a serving of this massive shrimp. Ask for picanha. Our friend recommended this restaurant and saw good reviews on TripAdvisor. It's in a free standing building with lots of country flags hanging by the entrance. The interior decoration is kinda insane. There's many umbrellas, truck, seashells, football helmets, the machine that plays the black vinyl, coffee powder in the bathroom floor, etc. Waiters were dressed like pirates? Lots of cold (raw oysters) and hot food buffet style with various cuts of meat. We had chicken, lamb, beef, fish, lobster, prawns etc. Lamb and prawns are my favorite! The first thing you notice is the crazy awesome decor! Things are hanging everywhere, including an upside-down grandfather clock and a suit of armor. Service was wonderfull! The staff was accommodating and check up on us frequently. It's a buffet style with servers that bring hot seafood/cuts of meat. The food was delicious! We were drawn by the good reviews but were not impressed. The majority of the food was EXTREMELY salty, and none of it was anything special. The interior design is certainly Instagram-worthy, and the drink menu looked fun. But, this is definitely a quantity over quality place. The service was attentive and friendly, if a little hurried. One beef dish brought around was sensational. But, most of the buffet was bland and the seafood brought around was over cooked. Its not cheap, either... very much priced for tourists. Dined at Marius earlier this week and man, what can I say except avoid at all costs unless you have the taste buds of a neanderthal. The reviews and glowing and most of these must be paid or done in exchange for kickbacks. To begin with, the level of kitsch is next level and one can overlook that since it is in a prime toursty location. The food is a combo of buffet appetizers (ceviche, salads, shellfish) etc, then some brazilian favorites like oxtail and feijoada served on large platters - just barely edible. Then the main course is a constant barrage of meat cuts (all very salty and barely indistinguishable from one another) along with some steamed fish options and overcooked lobster. There is also an annoying gong that goes off when any patron tips them. The food sucks here and the place is also a ripoff at almost a $100 per head (USD). The waiters do work hard and some of them are forced to wear an awful wooden tie (laminated). All forgivable if the food was edible but it was not and we ran for our lives. Avoid at all costs and save your $ for places that know how to make good food! read more

As far as buffets in Brazil goes, there is usually a salad bar that consists of some D grade sushi, beets, some salad, a local chicken stew and fish. At Marius, you get a better selection from oysters, hot food and other types of cured meats. The servers would come over much like how they would at a Churraschuria. You'll get your selection of meat, which was good. And you'll get a selection of seafood which was eh. Dessert bar is weak but stronger than any other place we went to. It's not for those seeking trendy hip crowds with beautiful people. It's more for people on dates, tourists and old people. read more

It's a very eclectically designed restaurant that caters predominantly to tourists. For example, once you walk in they provide you with a table flag representing your country or state if you are from Brazil. It's actually a cute touch when you look around the room. The food is mostly buffet style - nothing extravagant. Its buffet level of mid tier Las Vegas Hotel buffet, not the Wynn. They label most everything well with both Portuguese and English. It's a wide variety including some sushi, Brazilian stews, fishes, meats, vegetables and side items. Once you are seated with your plate, the servers walk around offering freshly grilled fishes (salmon and Sea Bass), shellfish (squid and lobster) and a wide variety of meats from beef to pork. It's unlimited so if you go here, you should go on an empty stomach to justify the higher pricing. I went with a group of four - we each had one cocktail and the total was $450 US. This leans towards the more expensive eating in Brazil and I'm not entirely sure it's worth it for the food quality and taste - more for the ambiance and fun interacting with the servers. read more

Last day of our Honeymoon and we wanted to splurge on a delicious feast - and we picked a great place for it! First off, the seafood/salad bar was HEAVEN. UNLIMITED RAW OYSTERS!! And they weren't shrivvely crappy oysters either but were very meaty and full-bodied and just so delicious and amazing! We both crammed our faces - I probably had around 20. The only problem with oysters is they take a lot of room on your plate and are dirty, so you can't put much else on there or have room for meat. There were other great fishes on the bar and large asparagus and fried plantains and shrimp.. the bar was truly amazing! My one disappointment was the salmon roe. There was some kind of citrus flavor saturating them which was a little gross. Had the salmon roe been normal I think my mind would have exploded with the amazing prospect of being able to eat unlimited quantities. The meat was also quite delicious. I don't really know the cuts of meat that well but they came around with really tender, melt in your mouth meat, some seafood dishes as well, and ribs. Yum! The decor is eclectic, funky and fun! One table had a random giraffe on it and there were tons of things to look at. The bathrooms were cool too. Service was very friendly and we were relieved that the place is casual given our lack of fancy clothes. The Fogo de Chao in DC was the only comparison we had when coming here and that is super fancy. Marius is EXPENSIVE. But there are a lot of places around here that are. The food alone is just under $75/person NOT including drinks. We got some caiparinhas anyway and nursed them. Get your money's worth while you are here by pounding back the OYSTERS and most expensive cuts of meat!
