This park is well maintained, with restroom facilities, and offers easy hiking trails, paved paths to jog, walk, cycle, or push strollers. Keep in mind that if you walk on the area where vehicles can drive on, all pedestrians are supposed to be on a certain side of the road. Just follow all the signage and instructions around the park. The park staff are friendly, and it's nice that maps are provided in the welcome center as well as select map stations around the park. A police vehicle is stationed at the front and is occasionally seen patrolling the park. Another neat park feature of the park is the bunkers! We've found at least one open to view inside. Supposedly, the bunkers were used to store TNT. The cherry on top to this park, though, is the newly added dog park, Barks and Tails. Our dog LOVES it, and so do we. Enterprise South Nature Park is really wonderful and an easy place to enjoy a fun filled outing.

Whenever you go the parking lot may be quite full. You definitely won't be the only one there. Poe Run Path is only for pedestrians is the trail I decided to take after seeing the bikers on a different trail. The bikers trails looked liked fun. There is also a business office open to the public. There you can find assistance and restrooms.

Anyway, this park is located just off of the riverwalk and has an area of wetlands where there are TONS of turtles. It's awesome - a fun little spot to spend an afternoon. I spent a long weekend on Lake Chickamauga (a COVID vacation)…read morewith my husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law, and we tried to find a great hike to do each morning within our hour of our lake rental. Big Soddy Creek Gulf came up in my research, and I'm so glad it did! The basics: Big Soddy Creek Gulf consists of an approximately 5-mile out-and-back trail along the creek. (I say approximately, because our Fitbit and Apple Watch trackers thought it was a little less than five miles total.) You're along the water the whole time, and it's beautiful and soothing (the sound of little mini falls throughout!). But the thing that makes this trail so unique and wonderful? Along the creek and trail, there are multiple natural swimming holes! We passed the first swimming hole within a quarter mile or so and another not too long after that. Both of those swimming holes had a family or two already set up with picnics or swimming (we were hiking around 11 am on a Monday in August), so we decided to take the trail to its end and see if we passed any other swimming holes. And we did! At the end of the trail, there was a large, beautiful swimming hole without a soul there! So we ate our packed lunches on the rocks by the water and then got in (got in - not jumped in - because it's rocky and slippery) for a quick (and cold - it's spring fed creek water after all!) swim! The hike is pretty easy throughout, although there is an area where a bridge has collapsed and you have to make your way over without it. The last quarter mile of the hike is probably the most strenuous - lots of large boulders and a bit of climbing, but it's easy overall! There are picnic tables and porta potties scattered along the trail (there are two porta potties in the parking lot before you start the trail as well). There is a large parking area at the trail head. When we arrived, there were lots of parked cars, but the trail wasn't crowded (granted, we did hike the trail on a weekday). We saw some other people, but most people stopped at one of the first few swimming holes or were walking dogs along the beginning of the trail. We only saw one or two people past the halfway point of the trail. A hike and a swim at Big Soddy Creek Gulf was exactly what I needed this week. It was beautiful, and I left feeling refreshed. I recommend it if you're in the area and enjoy a swim in a natural swimming hole!

This is an NPS site ($10 per person, or free for up to four people with the annual park pass,…read morealthough when I visited the gatehouse wasn't manned and people were just walking in for free). There's a Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center that has restroom facilites, a gift shop, and displays to set the scene of the battle. There's limited free parking at the lot behind the center, otherwise you have to pay for street parking. Lookout Mountain Battlefield is actually quite large- about 3,000 acres of land on the summit and slopes of Lookout Mountain. Point Park is much smaller at 16 acres, but it hits all the highlights with dramatic overlooks, monuments, and cannon positions to help understand the Battle of Lookout Mountain. There's plenty of hiking here as well, with trails to Ochs Museum & Observatory and beyond. If you're not a history buff or don't like hiking, there are still amazing views to be enjoyed!

CNF is located in eastern Tennessee, borders North Carolina and borders and within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's enjoyed especially by motorcyclists, outdoors and certain motor enthusiasts. Cell reception can be spotty and satellite connection is challenging. The roads were mostly 2 lanes with very limited turnarounds, passing lanes and parking other than designated lots and limited along the side of the road. The forest and the views were enchanting! Leave No Trace!

Worth it! It was our…read morefirst visit to Chattanooga when we were made aware of Prentice Cooper state forest but we didn't get a chance to go. On our second visit to Chattanooga we had no doubt we were going, so we set out to find this place! What I did, for reference, was punched in "Prentice cooper" into google, and came up with the address: 3998 Game Reserve road, Chattanooga TN 37405. This address gets you on the trail, which turns into a gravel road. Continue to drive, passing a shooting range, tower on the right side of the road, and a small cemetery on the left. You'll finally see a clearing with fence and a gravel road that branches off to the left. We walked down this gravel road after parking, but there was a large pick up truck and a couple bikes already down there so you CAN drive down this way. I have an AWD suv, but I also saw cars coming in and out so it's accessible to most vehicles I think. The view, once you see it, is as grand as you can believe. The Tennessee meanders in and out and around in front of you, which is stunning to view. This IS one of those 'at your own risk parks', I say this because while my girlfriend and I were there, there was a deep pit in my stomach that would swell every time one or both of us got close to the edge. There's nothing to hold on to and there's no rails. Pro tip....don't fall! Prentice Cooper is a must if you're in the Chattanooga area. I'd love to see it in the fall when the leaves change, but whenever you can go, DO GO! Easily 5 stars!

It can be such a relaxing place to enjoy nature and contemplate life. The Chickamauga creek runs through here and you see people kayaking on it. There are great hiking trails and they have classes you can take. It's really a wonderful place and I'm so glad Chattanooga takes such pride in it's natural surroundings.
