I'm sure the girl working behind the counter thought my cousin and I were crazy when we stopped by in the middle of the afternoon last Saturday. I mean, I'm sure she always sees girls, in full length bridesmaids dresses, with their hair in updo's and their faces done up with professional make up every weekend. Tender Donut has a great selection of donuts! The Custard filled maple bars had custard from first to last bite and were delicious. My friends enjoyed the other selections. The staff or owner is very nice and hard working. If I am in the area, I definitely will be back although it seems worth the trip to go out of the way. read more

I bought these for my team, in which they requested. I got up early and was at the donut shop by 6:30 am. I work in Manteca and they begged for these donuts. Wow, just dove into my maple doughnut and this was by far one of the better doughnuts I've had in awhile. Just grabbed two for the road to go with my mixed drink from a next door. Full of flavor and the dough was soft and moist despite buying the doughnut in the late afternoon. Typically you get that stale taste once you take your first bite but not at this spot, flavorful throughout and soft. Service was ok but happy to see that they were cordial and helpful with our order. Didn't have any glaze but don't really expect them to have much this late. Good-looking, fluffy donuts with slight crisp edge and a generous amount of glaze! $1 per bar/twist, 80¢ per old fashion (ring), 10¢ per donut hole All donuts HALF OFF after 4:30pm! The ladies working in the front are very nice and friendly. The shop is relatively clean and neat. Donuts are made fresh every morning. Tender Donut was one of the must-stop-by spots for us when my dad used to take my sister (Christina T.) and I around with him to run errands. One glazed ring for each person and some maple bars to munch on later as we watched the latest Chinese movie rentals. In the 90's, It was a definite must-stop-by after we go to our doctor's appointment in the building behind. Yes, getting donuts after seeing the doctor is ironic, but hey, I haven't gotten diabetes yet. Only high blood pressure, but that's a whole other story. What's more ironic is how my dad likes to talk about how he used to be a donut-maker in the 80's for a donut shop in downtown Stockton, so he knows how sugary donuts are and that he doesn't want to buy them for us too often. Then, he hands us the pink box. Christina and I would look at each other, shrugged, and dug in. We know its unhealthy and unnecessary for our daily nutrition...blah blah blah, but these tender donuts are too good to pass up. Till this day, I still catch my dad munching on either a Tender Donut bear claw, cinnamon swirl, or glazed twist with his cup of coffee in the morning. Of course, he would have a dozen glazed donut holes and a few bars for us. Their maple glaze doesn't taste much like maple as before, but they sure never skimp on glazing. Even though we have Star Donut down the street from our house, we still make the drive to Tender because Star is too soggy and oily. Krispy Kreme is also technically closer to us than Tender, but we prefer the texture and taste of family-made donuts. The convenience of Krispy Kreme drive-thru hasn't intrigued me enough to make the turn yet. Tender always has store front parking anyways. The only drawback is that they charge a 50¢ fee for purchasing with a card. Sort of fun facts: Doughnut or donut...I like spelling it donut (of course, I would spell it "doughnut" if I were to include it in my schoolwork). I think I've stopped at Tender Donut for the last time. Yeah, the doughnuts are good and they always have a huge pile of doughnut holes (since they're the holes, they don't have any calories!), but my most recent visit really turned me off. The woman behind the counter was sweeping and picking up stuff from the floor, then went immediately to serving customers WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS. Have I been known to eat stuff off the floor? Great bakery, with really nummy croissants and pastries. They do great donuts as well, but don't be fooled by the donut name this place can do pastries and other baked goods just as well. Only problem is that they're a little hard to see because they're tucked in the back of the parking lot behind Eddie's Pizza. But easy enough to sail thru the Starbucks drive-thru and then pull behind Eddie's and stop at Tender Donuts on my way into work. How convenient! read more

This is my favorite donut place in stockton, no joke. I love the people that work here especially the younger girl and the older lady who I think is her mom. They are always so nice when I come in and I always come in a couple days a week to buy a donut or two :P. I can admit that its possible that you can get the cashier at a bad time but honestly, after dealing with the cashiers personally I know they are wonderful people. I will not deny that their donuts are quite delicious but only when you can get them fresh! My mom and I had placed an order with them for seven to twelve dozens a week at wholesale price. The first couple of weeks of coming in, they packed freshly made donuts for us and we were quite pleased with their service but not long after they started mixing STALE/HARD donuts with fresh donuts in the boxes thinking we wouldn't notice since it was such a large order. After one morning of biting into a stale donut, we confronted the woman working there and she quickly denied it and then said, "The owner gets mad because you're ordering too much!" What does that even have to do with you serving us STALE DONUTS?! What's most upsetting was that she didn't even try to fix the situation and then told us that they no longer do big orders and that we should go elsewhere. I would like to disagree with John S. The place do make fresh donut daily like u said. Of course, we are all picky since we all have a favorite donut place. The place doesn't play favorite, it your open personailty that determine the cashier good mood. If you want a specific donut, please let the cashier knows. It doesn't hurt to say something. Also, people can be rotten sometime and annoyed the hell out of the cashier. Expect to receive the service given. Every donut shop would play favorite if you help buy alot of their donut.
