I really hate how much I like Tend. Genuinely. I came in with such a strong bias. "What is with all of this millennial crap, trying to rebrand all of the brick and mortar stuff we grew up with. Will this social media never stop? Can we end the pretty pastels and the instagrammable photos? No more sans serif fonts!" But Yelpers, I was happy to be proven wrong, After searching ZocDoc, I realised I had few options to use my insurance, but Tend was on board (after a bit of a scare with my crappy health insurance). I was able to schedule a meeting online within 2 weeks, and did all of my onboarding ahead of time, which saves everyone a hassle. Upon registering at the front desk, they gave me a small welcome kit (toothbrush and toothpaste) and I had to wait no longer than 5 minutes for my dental hygienist (Chris, I believe) to come fetch me. As expected, the decor was incredibly photogenic, but to my surprise, the service was also amazing. Chris was incredibly patient and empathetic -- it really felt like he was listening to me, was open to all of the questions, and wanted to make this dentist visit as painless as possible. They even give you a choice of Netflix viewing and Bose noise-cancelling headphones while you get cleaned. Ya'all, I have been converted and will be coming to Tend for all of my cleanings in the future. Believe in the hype!

Please read this if you are considering "breezy braces" or any form of ortho here. I spent over five grand to experience one year of painful "breezy braces" only to find out upon getting them half removed that my bite has not been fixed AND I need to wear removable plastic retainers for the rest of my life. I was told I could have permanent retainers put in during my consultation a year ago. The service was completely misrepresented. I essentially spent one year with braces only to have misaligned teeth, my bite had not been fixed and I'll be wearing the equivalent of Invisalign for the temainder of my life. What a joke. I've hated my experience and I'll be taking my business elsewhere once these "breezy braces" are removed completely. This is D2C millennial brand nonsense. Go to a real dental service.

I have dreaded going to the dentists for as long as I can remember. My teeth are not in good shape due to sustaining bad dental hygiene as a child and adolescent. I've passed by Tend locations many times and was always awestruck by the sleek, modern appearance of the office. It looks like a med-spa instead of a dentist's office! Even though my dental insurance is out of network, my plan was able to cover 90% of the cost. I had a $70 copay that would cover the cleaning, X-rays and exams for my routine dental checkup. Making an appointment online was seamless. I filled out the registration forms and added a credit card on file so there was no paperwork when I arrived. I was seen right on time and taken upstairs in an elevator to a dental suite with my name on the screen. The suite was pristine and all the equipment looked state-of-the-art. I settled back comfortably in my chair and the hygenist, Lucy, got to work taking my X-rays. I have a very sensitive gag reflex so taking the X-rays is usually an ordeal for me. Lucy was so adept and quick with the positioning and capture that it wasn't so bad. I love how they have a handheld camera instead of having to run outside of the room to press a button for the X-ray. After that, Lucy then took regular photos using a small probe. After reviewing the photos, the dentist came in to discuss my plan of care, highlighting things seen in the photos. She explained the pressing issues of filling in cavities and made the recommendation that I remove my two wisdom teeth because their positioning would trap food debris that might lead to decay in the future. Following the evaluation, I was given sunglasses, headphones and allowed to watch Netflix on a flat screen tv while Lucy began the cleaning. I had never been offered this before and was astounded at how much more pleasant it made the process. I appreciated how I was offered breaks in the cleaning and how diligently she worked on my teeth. It really felt like she had cleaned each tooth from 5 different angles, never missing a stain. This was a world's difference from the 5 minute cleaning I've received at other clinics. At the end of the visit, a receptionist discussed the costs with me in private. The price of my fillings were $100-278, which seemed reasonable. I used to scoff at the idea of paying extra for a boutique dental experience when I could find a dentist in network that would be covered at 100%. However, the higher quality of care of Tend is worth the extra money. It's great that they offer out of pocket benefits instead of charging their own rates as some private practices due. With Tend, I might even end up looking forward to my dental checkups!

Environment is very comfortable Dr. Steinbach was the first doctor when I was visiting right after covid ended because I had a root canal during covid that needed a crown. He was very honest with me and told me I would need an implant. It was a very dramatic news for me but they were wonderful. I was referred out to the close by ortho dentist and the came back to get my crown. The entire experience was straight forward and easy. They never tried to upsell me anything. My only issue with this location is the Dental Cleaning. After finishing up the issues with my teeth, I had a dental cleaning and it was extremely painful. I thought it was just normal when I started visiting the Court Side location since it was more convenient for me, Dr. Karpova did my cleaning was literally pain free. I assumed it was cause maybe previously I had dirty teeth This month I did cleaning at this location again since it was convenient and since I been keeping up with all my cleanings it wouldnt be too bad. No, it was very rough and felt rushed. I did not feel comfortable at all. I might try court street again for cleaning, but if its still painful I think I will switching for cleaning. However for other procedures where the actual dentist is working on it, I would absolutely recommend this place.

I am SO thankful for Dr. Hoang after an absolutely HORRIBLE experience at Prospect Heights Dental…read more(which you can read all about at their Yelp page). After a practice that didn't take covid seriously, did an unnecessary and COSTLY dental procedure that I am still healing from weeks later, hurting my lip, and being just a complete disorganized disaster, I'm really lucky that my second shot at dentistry was so much better. I prefaced in my last review that I made the mistake of not going to the dentist for a long time - granted, I didn't have insurance for 6 months and then the moment I got insurance, covid happened and I got scared. But still, it's reasonable I had a ton of build up/tartar/gum disease and definitely a wake up call for me. At the last dentist, I was told immediately I needed a root and scaling/deep clean without them even doing the measurement thing on my gums, just x-rays. They did the root and scale on my right side but not my left (only one is done at a time), which has left me weeks later with angry miserable gums, gaps in my teeth I didn't prior have, and cost me $500 out of pocket. When I got to Dr. Hoang, she actually took her time examining my x-rays, my gums, and my mouth to find that 1) the deep clean didn't even deep clean, as I still had a bunch of tartar making my gums even more unhappy and 2) my gums weren't as bad as I had thought, and I didn't even need to do a root and scaling/deep clean on the left side. If I had gone to Dr. Hoang in the first place, I wouldn't be still miserable, with ugly and uncomfortable gaps in my teeth that I literally struggle to talk and eat with, and wouldn't be out $500 as all she did was a regular cleaning for me on the left. My biggest disappointment is I didn't go to her first. On top of that she's super sweet, lets you ask questions, doesn't make you feel bad about your obvious mistakes, and makes sure you fully feel comfortable before she does anything. Thank you so much for restoring my faith in dentistry. The practice is also great!!! Sallie from reception was very pleasant over the phone and email, and I'm not sure if it was her or a different receptionist at the front today, but she was great too. Everyone is wearing masks and taking Covid very seriously. They sent out a covid form the night before and took my temperature when I arrived. And...... last thing, they were playing Death Cab for Cutie when I walked in. As a born and raised Seattleite, this made me so happy :)

Next week they start scraping my gums and I'm actually looking forward to it! (okay, that last part's a total lie. But you get the picture.)

When I asked about insurance coverage, I was told by the treatment coordinator that the removal was covered, but the bone graft and membrane was not, and that it was needed in order to prevent infection. Also, I had to pay up front, and so I ended paying $1,800 right then and there, as you know, you should trust your dentist right? Well, it didn't feel right that I should have to pay so much to have a routine procedure, so after some consultation with friends/family, I decided to contact an oral surgeon. I was told that the bone graft and membrane is usually not needed with wisdom teeth, because you do not get implants for wisdom teeth. I called back and asked why I was getting this procedure to be told by the receptionist "we do this procedure for all teeth extractions". At that point I asked for a refund, which I was told I would get. Two weeks pass, no refund. Call again, and again. After the third time I disputed the charge because this should not be that difficult. Went to the oral surgeon and was told the graft was completely unnecessary and even questioned the ethics of mandating every tooth removal have this process. The removal is 100% covered by my insurance with the oral surgeon. To really cap it off, I got a letter in the mail from this office saying they were going to withdraw from my care. Really? I already withdrew because I was being ripped off and couldn't get a refund after multiple requests. Totally lacking in professionalism, and decency. Especially during a time where things are very difficult for most people. Good riddance.
