I waited for nearly 2 hours for the front desk to verify my insurance as they claimed they couldn't find my coverage even though I've been there before. My insurance hasn't changed, I even called the insurance company to verify in front of the receptionist on speaker and was in fact verified. After nearly 2 hours of waiting a doctor came down to tell me to reschedule. I can't express the level of frustration I experienced here - the complete lack of effort and mindless service was inadmissible. They need to get better help and service representatives who actually try to help their patients and not roll their eyes and tell a patient it's not their job to verify my insurance. Don't be fooled by their decor and facade, it's a show and it does not make up for their incompetent service team. Hire better staff who can take responsibility and help. Repurpose that receptionist to another position that doesn't have to be front facing, she clearly does not like her job. read more

My appointment was confusing and disappointing and no actual treatment was delivered. A very kind, good guy named Augustus tried to help me maneuver through the overly complicated layers of information I was given today and did his best to help me get care, but in the end -- I'm still left feeling like Tend won't clean my teeth until they can charge more for it? Or something? I was recommended to a periodontal specialist. I wasn't aware that I'd need to do that in order to get any further regular cleanings. If I knew it was NEEDED before I could get a regular cleaning I might have been better about prioritizing my time and medical costs. I was supposed to have a cleaning and check-up in December to stay on schedule. I ended up in the hospital and couldn't go but the system thought I went and getting a new appointment through email, then phone wasn't that simple. 5 Months later I went in hoping for a cleaning and check up. I was told I needed a deeper more expensive cleaning. I sat there while they tried to find out if my insurance would cover it. I was there for an hour while they checked my insurance. I tried to understand why I couldn't get cleaned today regularly and deal with the other treatments later they couldn't say anything except it was "for my health benefit or protection" or something. The dentist also basically said "this is what happens if you don't come in regularly" and I was like..... "I've been trying...." Anyway -- that's a tale as long as a root canal and as sore as a toothache and really who cares. I'm mostly disappointed because I have such a hard time at the dentist with pain and when I first started at Tend I thought it was the best, most caring place ever .... but now they are saying I can't get cleaned unless I do all these other things which is just so odd so I guess we're breaking up. anyway. go but if anything happens that slightly alters your ability to be any kind of regular patient.... be warned it won't be easy to correct. read more

This was my 2nd visit to Tend for my dentistry needs and they didn't disappoint. Upon checking in the receptionists were very friendly and gave me a complimentary toothbrush and toothpaste in a very nice travel case. My appointment was for 2:30 and I arrived at 2:10 and was seen promptly at 2:25. My dental hygienist was very funny, warm and welcoming. She was attentive to my sensitive teeth and offered solutions to help with my cleaning. She did a great job. Then I saw the dentist Dr Lee, who checked my teeth again and made a suggestion to ensure I would have great teeth for a long time. Apparently I grind my teeth now so she suggested a night guard. I thanked her but no thanked her. We'll add it to my treatment plan and double back in the summer. My insurance allows 2 cleanings per year so I go back in July. Scheduling and changing scheduling is done remotely and can result in lots of confusion on their part. Their call back database also appears confused since they called my wife to request a change in my appointment. When she confirmed for me, they said I needed to call to confirm. Too many calls to update the reservation by 30 minutes. As a consequence I showed up 30 minutes early but they could only see me on the original schedule. After they gave me a ridiculous scammy test where they poked my gums with a sharp object, they showed me the spots where my gums were bleeding (of course, you just poked them with a sharp object). The dentist used the results of the test to try and upsell me on a 2 day deep cleaning procedure that would have required anaesthesia. The dentist refused to just give me a basic cleaning. I really hate how much I like Tend. Genuinely. I came in with such a strong bias. "What is with all of this millennial crap, trying to rebrand all of the brick and mortar stuff we grew up with. Will this social media never stop? Can we end the pretty pastels and the instagrammable photos? No more sans serif fonts!" But Yelpers, I was happy to be proven wrong, After searching ZocDoc, I realised I had few options to use my insurance, but Tend was on board (after a bit of a scare with my crappy health insurance). I was able to schedule a meeting online within 2 weeks, and did all of my onboarding ahead of time, which saves everyone a hassle. Upon registering at the front desk, they gave me a small welcome kit (toothbrush and toothpaste) and I had to wait no longer than 5 minutes for my dental hygienist (Chris, I believe) to come fetch me. As expected, the decor was incredibly photogenic, but to my surprise, the service was also amazing. Chris was incredibly patient and empathetic -- it really felt like he was listening to me, was open to all of the questions, and wanted to make this dentist visit as painless as possible. They even give you a choice of Netflix viewing and Bose noise-cancelling headphones while you get cleaned. Ya'all, I have been converted and will be coming to Tend for all of my cleanings in the future. Believe in the hype! read more

At entry I was gifted a goodie bag and updated on the status of my dentist since he was a few minutes behind schedule. My dentist greeted me at the waiting area and took me to my room. From there he explained every step of the way what he was doing and the purpose of each step. He provided great advice, techniques on taking care of my teeth and answered all my questions. I have dreaded going to the dentists for as long as I can remember. My teeth are not in good shape due to sustaining bad dental hygiene as a child and adolescent. I've passed by Tend locations many times and was always awestruck by the sleek, modern appearance of the office. It looks like a med-spa instead of a dentist's office! Even though my dental insurance is out of network, my plan was able to cover 90% of the cost. I had a $70 copay that would cover the cleaning, X-rays and exams for my routine dental checkup. Making an appointment online was seamless. I filled out the registration forms and added a credit card on file so there was no paperwork when I arrived. I was seen right on time and taken upstairs in an elevator to a dental suite with my name on the screen. The suite was pristine and all the equipment looked state-of-the-art. I settled back comfortably in my chair and the hygenist, Lucy, got to work taking my X-rays. I have a very sensitive gag reflex so taking the X-rays is usually an ordeal for me. Lucy was so adept and quick with the positioning and capture that it wasn't so bad. I love how they have a handheld camera instead of having to run outside of the room to press a button for the X-ray. After that, Lucy then took regular photos using a small probe. After reviewing the photos, the dentist came in to discuss my plan of care, highlighting things seen in the photos. She explained the pressing issues of filling in cavities and made the recommendation that I remove my two wisdom teeth because their positioning would trap food debris that might lead to decay in the future. Following the evaluation, I was given sunglasses, headphones and allowed to watch Netflix on a flat screen tv while Lucy began the cleaning. I had never been offered this before and was astounded at how much more pleasant it made the process. I appreciated how I was offered breaks in the cleaning and how diligently she worked on my teeth. It really felt like she had cleaned each tooth from 5 different angles, never missing a stain. This was a world's difference from the 5 minute cleaning I've received at other clinics. At the end of the visit, a receptionist discussed the costs with me in private. The price of my fillings were $100-278, which seemed reasonable. I used to scoff at the idea of paying extra for a boutique dental experience when I could find a dentist in network that would be covered at 100%. However, the higher quality of care of Tend is worth the extra money. It's great that they offer out of pocket benefits instead of charging their own rates as some private practices due. Would give negative points if I could. Several months ago, I had another (non-Tend) dentist say I needed to go into oral surgery-- that there was a potential infection. I went to Tend for a 2nd opinion and Dr. Robert Hannah at Tend said that we'd keep an eye on it but that I didn't need to do anything. So I left it alone. But a few months later, I started experiencing tooth aches and they grew to be the worst pain of my life. While in pain, I tried to schedule another appt at Tend Dental and they kept canceling on me when I showed up in person -- citing "short staff." When I finally saw someone, they took x-rays and a 360 scan -- all of them very expensive -- only to have no clue what they were reading on the xrays. Ultimately, I went out of the Tend network and they were able to identify that I had a tooth infection. Why can't 3 separate dentists at Tend read an xray?? Their failure to diagnose a simple infection at several stages caused unnecessary suffering and thousands of dollars out of pocket. Since then, I've also heard of other colleagues who went to Tend and had infections that cost them $6,000 out of pocket. The entire Tend network is built on a foundation of straws: it has a network of unqualified dentists who practice neglect, has the customer care line of a cable company (expect wait times for up to hours). No one is writing me back because I'm sure they don't want anything in writing. Startups are well and fine if you want to sell coffee, but this is people's health care! Prior to my visit, I confirmed with my dental insurance and Tend Customer Service that Tend was in-network, and both stated that they were. On the day of my visit, I saw Dr. Erica Mills. When I received my EOB, the visit was billed out-of-network. My insurance told me that Dr. Mills is in-network with them, but not at any Tend locations - the tax ID number on my claim was different from Dr. Mills' other locations. My annual benefit/plan maximum with my insurance is $2,000, and this visit for a cleaning and exam was $730. My insurance told me that if I stayed in-network, this visit would have cost $178. I reached out to Tend via phone and was told not all of your providers are credentialed with every insurance. If Tend knew I was using insurance, why wasn't I seen by a provider that is credentialed with my insurance? I had no idea prior to the visit that I would be seeing a dentist that is out-of-network. I am extremely disappointed by the entire experience. The cleaning overall was very good, however, I felt like I was being upsold on x-rays during the entire visit. The hygienist wanted to take full mouth x-rays and I told her that I wanted to first see how my visit went since full mouth x-rays are only covered every 5 years. She provided to sell me on the benefits of full mouth x-rays despite me saying numerous times that I wanted check-up x-rays only. I don't normally write reviews but I've had too many scheduling issues with Tend and would like to warn others. In the past, they've rescheduled me last minute multiple times. Although this is incredibly inconvenient and unprofessional I was willing to overlook it and give them another chance, especially since they were only moving mundane things like cleanings. This time, I booked a surgery with them weeks in advance and they called to reschedule one week before the appointment. When I asked for availability they said no surgeries could take place at any of the Brooklyn locations until several weeks after my initial appointment. I cannot believe a place this disorganized is providing medical care to people. Do yourself a favor and become well acquainted with a small business dentist instead. A day before my scheduled surgery, Tend changed the appointment by 30 minutes without any communication. Then when I got there I had to wait for over an hour past the revised appointment time before being seen because they were so behind. During my procedure, the door to my treatment room was propped open, exposing me to the view of other patients and passersby. It was uncomfortable to have strangers witness me undergoing a dental procedure, particularly one as invasive as tooth extraction. I even encountered a situation where a woman reacted negatively to the sight, further emphasizing the lack of privacy at this clinic. These are just a few issues that have happened with this and other Tend locations so I'd highly suggest folks weight the pros and cons of going to any Tend location. read more

I would steer clear and far from this place. I don't normally write reviews but It has been an absolute nightmare using Tend and I think potential patients should be aware of the lack of professionalism and patient care. I took some x-rays and was told that they needed to be looked at by a specialist and that I'd be contacted shortly after my visit. Two weeks passed, didn't hear anything so I attempted my first phone call to their member services to get an update and was told someone would call me later that day. This had turned into 7 phone calls spanning more than a month trying to get any information. I had to get a supervisor to call one of their studios directly to get a response, which then I was told that I was supposed to schedule an appointment with an oral surgeon. No one had given me that information up until that point. The kicker, the earliest appointment would be 2 months out. The disregard of patient care and lack of urgency is so bad that it's comical. 1st and probably only time. Not a great experience Got there ~5:50p for my 6p, and was the only patient in the waiting area. Within 15min there were 3 other ppl also w 6p appts - 1 got there right before 6 and the other got there about 5min after. Then the one who got the 6 got called in. Then ~5 others came in with appts 6:15p and after. The 2nd then 3rd 6p's got called in. Then the 5 other ppl got called in. And no one said anything to me. I saw one of the 6p leave shortly before I was the only one left in the waiting area. When everyone else waiting had been called, I asked the hygienist who happens to be at the front desk (the front desk coverage was upstairs and only came down after I asked what the hold up was). The response was "what time was your appt?" Meanwhile the 3rd 6pm lady who was called in came downstairs bc she just finished her appt. The front desk had no explanation other than that the hygienist to whom I got assigned got held up by the previous patient. They added my hygienist wasn't a regular at the Cobble Hill, as if that explains anything. How is their scheduling issue my problem? Then when I did get upstairs, the hygienist ran me through all the medical history I'd already filled out online - which btw was repeated again when a dentist stopped by to do the medical check. The cleaning itself took as long as my wait, and was just ok. It consisted of polish w abrasive and then scaling with ultrasound/water. Stay away. Had a terrible experience with billing. They charged my card $250 ish for a routine cleaning. Then when I looked Into it, turns out my insurance didn't have it. Seems simple enough so I asked them to submit to my insurance. They happily did that, and got paid what they always got paid from my carrier. Now you'd think I'd get back the 250, since they got paid by insurance AND me? Nope. Not only are they not refunding it or crediting it - they say I owe more money. For a routine cleaning. If it was going to cost $250 you'd think they should have told me? Just be aware that they may charge you for routine cleanings at their made up exorbitant prices, then rely on terms of service. Even though they say stuff is covered by insurance - apparently they're allowed to lie and just charge your credit card that they keep on file. It's not a dentist - it's a tech company. Just had an appointment for a standard cleaning, and it was a startlingly bad experience. - I waited 30 minutes to be seen - The front desk staff was not welcoming and made no efforts to communicate delays to me - I have an auto immune disease, and it makes healing slow for me, inflammation likely, and overall it impacts my dental health. After communicating this to the hygienist, she proceeded to say she was thrilled to educate me on why I was wrong... I have had this disease for over 25 years and every dentist I've been to along with my specialist for my disease have communicated this to me. The hygienist told me that I was wrong and I just needed "better dental care", and proceeded to try to sell me on a more robust cleaning and treatments before the dentist had even seen me. - The hygienist, after being informed I was in a rush because of their delayed start, had to do my x-rays twice because something was wrong with the machine the first time - By the time the dentist actually saw me, I had been there for over an hour. She spent about 5 minutes with me, told me what I needed was just a mild gingivitis cleaning and 2 minor fillings, but that we no longer had enough time to do so with my time constraints because of their delay. So after all this, I spent over an hour at their office to be told I didn't know what I was talking about regarding my own auto immune disease, and did not accomplish anything except x-rays (and immense frustration). Nina was great, very personable, I didn't feel like just another patient, she had excellent bedside manner when discussing my areas of improvement and was very gentle when doing my cleaning.
